Alabama vs. Auburn

When: Saturday, November 30

It’s been an unexpected two weeks for Alabama, especially on offense. After quarterback Tua Tagovailoa sustained a season-ending injury against Mississippi State, it’s been backup QB Mac Jones who’s had to fill the shoes of the once Heisman hopeful. He’ll need to have the best performance of his young collegiate career against what many consider to be the best defensive line in the country. A dominant performance by Alabama against battle-tested Auburn on the road would make a powerful statement to the selection committee, who is unsure of how successful Alabama can be without Tagovailoa. In last week’s game against Western Carolina, Jones went 10-for-12 with 275 yards and three touchdowns. For Jones and the rest of the offense, it’s all about keeping it simple and relying on the players at the skill positions.

Don’t let Auburn’s record fool you. They may have three losses, but they have come against some of the top teams in the country, including No. 2 LSU, No. 4 Georgia and No. 8 Florida. In his weekly press conference, Auburn head coach Gus Malzahn talked about the excitement of this year’s matchup and how last year’s loss will help this year’s team. However, this is the first time true freshman quarterback Bo Nix will get to experience playing in the Iron Bowl. In seven of his last nine games – the losses to Florida and LSU the outliers – he has hit 60 percent or more of his passes. The Tigers dominated Sanford 52-0 in a warmup for this weekend’s game. Nix was a steady 15-for-23 with 150 yards and one touchdown, before being taken out so the backup quarterbacks could get some playing time.

Broncos are 1.5-point underdogs vs. Chargers in Week 13

The Broncos are considered slight underdogs against the Chargers in Week 13 of the NFL season.

The Denver Broncos (3-8) are considered 1.5-point home underdogs against the Los Angeles Chargers (4-7) in Week 13 of the NFL season, according to BetMGM. The over/under total for combined points scored between the two teams has been set at 38.5.

Last week, Denver scored just one field goal in a 20-3 loss to the Buffalo Bills (8-3). Los Angeles scored two touchdowns and a field goal in a 24-17 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs (7-4). Combined, the Broncos and Chargers scored 20 points last week, 18.5 points below of this week’s over/under line.

Denver has an advantage in the all-time series against L.A., leading the series with a 66-52-1 win-loss-tie record. The Broncos’ record against the Chargers is even better at home: 40-18-1.

Last month, Denver defeated L.A. 20-13 on the road in Week 5. The Chargers will be looking to return the favor on Sunday.

Saints favored by almost a touchdown over Falcons on Thanksgiving

The opening Week 13 NFL odds favor the visiting New Orleans Saints over the hosting Atlanta Falcons on Thanksgiving, but that means little.

[jwplayer jcPYpmHE]

The New Orleans Saints are headlining the NFL’s scheduled games for Thanksgiving with a rematch against the NFC South-rival Atlanta Falcons in prime-time, at 7:20 p.m. CT on NBC. That tense matchup follows earlier games hosted by the Detroit Lions (against the Chicago Bears at 11:30 a.m. CT) and Dallas Cowboys (with the Buffalo Bills at 3:30 p.m. CT). And according to the opening line from BetMGM, the Saints-Falcons kickoff is expected to be the day’s barn-burner, with the highest over/under of the day.

The Saints-Falcons game has a projected over/under of 49.5, with New Orleans favored by 6.5 points — nearly a full touchdown. That’s higher than what the Cowboys-Bills game is expected to put up (44.5) as well as what the Lions-Bears tilt (39.5). That over/under also projects a final score of Saints 29, Falcons 21.

Saints fans learned that the projected odds mean little the last time these two teams squared off. The Saints were 11.5-point favorites over the Falcons coming out of their bye week, but Atlanta shocked the Saints by sacking Drew Brees six times and holding the New Orleans offense without a touchdown on the day. The Saints have had time to improve since then, but this will obviously be a big test no matter what each team’s record looks like.

Betting line favoring Ohio State over Michigan falling

One day after the opening line came out on Michigan and Ohio State, the line has already started to creep closer to the Wolverines side.

[jwplayer nzUOvTML-XNcErKyb]

That didn’t take long — and perhaps the Buckeyes aren’t as impermeable as once thought. At least that’s the prevailing thought in Las Vegas.

After WagerTalk announced the opening line for Michigan’s upcoming tilt with arch-rival Ohio State at 9.5 favoring OSU, that line is already coming down a bit.

According to BetMGM, that line has fallen by a point, with Ohio State still being favored by more than one score, but it’s now less than a touchdown and a safety, with the line down to 8.5 points.

Odds via BetMGM. Access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated November 25 at 9:38 a.m. ET.

Michigan has come on strong as of late, with the offense clicking halfway through the middle game of the season, at Penn State. Since, the Wolverines have destroyed every team in its path, including against rival Notre Dame — which was favored in Ann Arbor — in-state rival MSU and even Indiana, who was a 9.5-point underdog going into that game (Michigan beat the Hoosiers by 25).

Can Michigan pull off the upset? It’s still a very tall task, and one we’re still not likely to predict at this juncture. But The Game certainly has more intrigue now than it would have had back in September/early-October.

Michigan opens as underdogs to Ohio State

Las Vegas has set the opening line for The Game, and it’s the closest margin for the Buckeyes yet.

[jwplayer BzLpEzD2-XNcErKyb]

This is no surprise, given Ohio State’s dominance all season long. But for the first time all season, the Buckeyes are not double-digit favorites over their next opponent.

The lowest that OSU has been favored by all season was 14.5 points — twice, at home against Cincinnati in Week Two and later when it hosted Wisconsin. Even this last week’s game against Penn State had a spread that ballooned to 20 points by kickoff. The Buckeyes have covered in all but three of eleven regular season games in 2019.

But with The Game up next, while Michigan is still the underdog, the opening line, according to WagerTalk.com, is 9.5, with an over/under set at 55.5 — indicating a potentially high-scoring affair.

The Wolverines have certainly played like a different team in the past 4.5 games, especially on offense. In the first 6 games (with the first-half of Penn State included), Michigan averaged 386 yards of offense. Since, the maize and blue have managed to put up 426.2 yards-per-game, with a new scoring offense of 40 points-per-game, compared to the 29.1 point average in the 6.5 games previous.

Both Ohio State and Michigan feature Top 10 defenses, but the Buckeyes have a vaunted offense to match. The Wolverines have recently looked the part on that front, scoring in droves, but can the maize and blue go toe-to-toe with the No. 2 team in the country?

Vegas at least thinks it will be a closer affair than many suggested it would be earlier in the season.

Cowboys vs. Patriots

When you mention Dallas, the first place you start is with its offense, which ranks first overall (444.6 YPG). The Cowboys beat the Lions last week 35-27 behind a strong showing from quarterback Dak Prescott, who threw for 444 yards and three touchdowns. Prescott leads the league with 3,221 total yards this season. Michael Gallup and Randall Cobb both totaled over 100 yards receiving, while All-Pro Amari Cooper was limited to just three balls for 38 yards. Cooper is fourth in receiving with 886 total yards. Running back Ezekiel Elliott has struggled in the last two games, with under 50 yards on the ground in both. Elliott and Cooper will need to step up against the Patriots defense.

While the Cowboys offense gets a lot of the credit, their defense is ranked in the Top 10 in points allowed, total yards allowed and passing yards allowed. The unit had three sacks against the Lions and has excellent linebackers in Jaylon Smith and Leighton Vander Esch, who have 90 and 72 total tackles, respectively. Defensive end Robert Quinn has eight-and-a-half sacks this season. Can this group make Tom Brady and the offense uncomfortable? We know what Dallas’ offense can do, but its defense can be the difference maker in this game.

The New England Patriots are 9-1, but Tom Brady was frustrated after their 17-10 win against the Eagles last weekend. Why you ask? Brady threw for 216 yards and no touchdowns, the team had 72 total yards on the ground and both Julian Edelman and Ben Watson barely broke 50 yards. Plain and simple, the offense wasn’t very good and he realized that. Dallas can put points on the scoreboard and the New England offense will have to do its part to reach the end zone in this game as well.

New England’s top-ranked defense vs. Dallas’ top-ranked offense is the main storyline in this one. The toughest contest of the year for the Patriots was its game against the Ravens and the team lost. Dallas hasn’t faced a slew of difficult teams either. This one will be a litmus test of where each is at. Last weekend against the Eagles, the New England defense carried the team. It recorded five sacks on quarterback Carson Wentz. Danny Shelton led the team with seven tackles and one interception. Should Prescott look to air it out to Amari Cooper and company, he better be cautious. The Patriots boast the second-best passing defense (152.6 YPG) and a top-notch secondary that includes Devin McCourty, who is tied for the league lead with five interceptions this season.

Lions quarterback Jeff Driskel, tasked with filling in for an injured for Matthew Stafford, threw for 209 yards and two touchdowns in a 35-27 loss at home to the Dallas Cowboys. With Stafford ruled out for this game as well, Driskel will have another chance to impress. Detroit’s defense will need to step up in this contest after giving up 509 yards to the Cowboys last week. With Washington’s less potent offense, this is an opportunity for the Lions to get back on track offensively.

Washington also lost its last outing, dropping a game at home against the New York Jets by a score of 34-17. The team was held to just 54 yards rushing, which forced the team to put the ball in the air more than it wanted with rookie quarterback Dwayne Haskins under center. Haskins completed 19 of his 35 pass attempts for 214 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception. With Detroit overly capable of moving the ball through the air and on the ground, the Washington offense may need to produce at a high level to keep pace.

NFC South divisional rivals Tampa Bay and Atlanta face-off for the first of two meetings this season on Sunday afternoon. Both teams have identical 3-7 records. The Falcons lead the all-time series 27-24 and have won the last five games, including a 34-32 victory on the road last year. The last time the Bucs defeated the Falcons in Atlanta was on Sept. 11, 2016.

The Buccaneers have one of the best offenses in the league, but turnovers once again cost Tampa Bay in a 34-17 home loss to NFC South opponent New Orleans. Jameis Winston completed 30 of 51 passes for 313 yards and two touchdowns, but also four interceptions. Winston is third in the NFL with 3,078 yards, but he also leads the league with 18 interceptions this season. Those turnovers helped the Saints jump out to a 20-0 lead early. The running game was non-existent with just eight plays. If the Bucs can establish the run game, they can open up the play-action pass where Winston can be a little more mobile and throw to arguably the best 1-2 wide receiver combination in Mike Evans and Chris Godwin. Evans and Godwin are ranked second and third in receiving with 993 and 887 yards, respectively.

Tampa’s defensive front is one of the best in the league and it is ranked second when it comes to stopping the run. Last weekend they were limited to just one sack. Drew Brees threw for 228 yards and three touchdowns, including numerous balls to Michael Thomas. It doesn’t get any easier with a much improved Falcons offense led by quarterback Matt Ryan and speedy wide receivers Julio Jones and Calvin Ridley. Tampa Bay is last in points allowed (31.3) and second to last in pass yards allowed (290.9).

After starting 1-7, the Falcons have won their last two games and it couldn’t have come at a better time. They beat NFC South opponents, New Orleans and Carolina, holding them to just 12 combined points. Against the Panthers, Matt Ryan threw for 311 yards and one touchdown for the third best passing attack in the league with an average of 300.3 YPG. While the Bucs have a solid 1-2 punch, the Falcons do as well with Jones and Ridley. Last weekend, Ridley led the team with eight catches for 141 yards and one touchdown, while Jones hauled in six balls for 91 yards. Jones is ranked fifth in the league with 992 yards and is certain to break the 1,000 mark on Sunday.

Offensive coordinator Dierk Koetter and Raheem Morris, the Falcons assistant head coach and secondary coach, both spent time as the head coach of the Buccaneers. We’ll see how that helps on Sunday. One area that hasn’t needed a ton of help has been the defense. The unit has held the Saints and Panthers in back-to-back weeks to no offensive touchdowns and combined for 11 sacks.  Last weekend, the defense picked off Kyle Allen four times led by De’Vondre Campbell, who had 12 tackles and one interception. If the Falcons defense can force Jameis Winston out of his rhythm and create turnovers, this game will play right into Atlanta’s hands.

Oakland won their third game in a row after a 17-10 defeat of the winless Bengals at home. Derek Carr was nearly perfect throwing the ball. He completed 25 of 29 passes for 292 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. Three wide receivers had over 60 yards, including Tyrell Williams, who led the team with four catches and 82 yards. Rookie Josh Jacobs continued to dazzle on the ground with his fourth 100+ yard game of the season to bring his total to 923 yards, fourth best in the NFL.

The defense wasn’t exactly tested against the Bengals and if you asked most people three weeks ago, they wouldn’t be too concerned about the Jets. However, this is an offense that has seen a rejuvenated Sam Darnold and the team has put up 34 points in back-to-back games. Oakland’s defense ranks 27th in passing yards allowed, so don’t expect it to be a walk in the park for the team on Sunday.

It wasn’t long ago the Jets were mentioned in the same sentence as the Bengals, Dolphins, Redskins, and Giants. However, they have won their last two games, including a 34-17 win over Washington on the road. Yes, their prior win before that was against the Giants, but the offense is finally scoring points and that’s always a good sign. Sam Darnold threw for 293 yards, four touchdowns, and one interception. Le’Veon Bell and Bilal Powell combined for 101 yards and another score. Ryan Griffin led the team with 109 yards receiving and a touchdown.

While the Jets offense is working its way up from the bottom of the NFL rankings, the defense continues to be a bright spot. The unit is ranked 13th in yards allowed (332.4) and first in rush defense (79.1). Against Washington, they racked up six sacks and recorded one interception. James Burgess notched nine tackles and half of a sack, while Jamal Adams picked up three sacks to go with his four tackles in the game. If this group can limit Josh Jacobs and the run game, it has a chance to pull out the win.

Denver’s record may be a disappointing 3-7, but the team saw glimpses of promise in last weekend’s 27-23 loss to Minnesota on the road. Brandon Allen, making his second career start due to an injury to Joe Flacco, threw for 240 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. Running back Phillip Lindsay carried the ball for 67 yards and wide receiver Courtland Sutton hauled in five passes for 113 yards. It was the second time this season Sutton eclipsed the 100-yard mark. The Broncos had a 20 point lead before the Vikings came storming back. Denver took three shots at the end zone with the game nearing the end after converting three fourth downs on the drive, but couldn’t get the job done.

The Broncos defense was lights out in the first half but surrendered touchdowns on the Vikings four possessions following the half. The unit had five sacks and held Dalvin Cook to just 26 yards and one touchdown. Kirk Cousins was the difference maker though. He completed 29 of 35 passes for 319 yards and three touchdowns. The pass defense for the Broncos has been one of their stronger suits, as they were holding teams to an average of 210.3 YPG. Shelby Harris racked up three sacks in addition to five tackles in the game.

While the Broncos look to bounce back from a tough loss, the Bills are coming off an easy victory over the Miami Dolphins. Buffalo beat Miami, 37-20, in South Florida behind a four touchdown performance from quarterback Josh Allen. Allen totaled 256 yards in the air and three touchdowns. As a team, the Bills tallied 168 yards rushing and John Brown had nine receptions for a season-high 137 yards and two touchdowns.

The Bills defense is ranked third in points allowed, yards allowed and passing yards allowed. Against Miami, they sacked quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick seven times and held the Dolphins running game to 23 yards. Tremaine Edwards led the team with 12 tackles and half of a sack, while Matt Milano chipped in seven tackles and half of a sack.
