Denver’s record may be a disappointing 3-7, but the team saw glimpses of promise in last weekend’s 27-23 loss to Minnesota on the road. Brandon Allen, making his second career start due to an injury to Joe Flacco, threw for 240 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. Running back Phillip Lindsay carried the ball for 67 yards and wide receiver Courtland Sutton hauled in five passes for 113 yards. It was the second time this season Sutton eclipsed the 100-yard mark. The Broncos had a 20 point lead before the Vikings came storming back. Denver took three shots at the end zone with the game nearing the end after converting three fourth downs on the drive, but couldn’t get the job done.

The Broncos defense was lights out in the first half but surrendered touchdowns on the Vikings four possessions following the half. The unit had five sacks and held Dalvin Cook to just 26 yards and one touchdown. Kirk Cousins was the difference maker though. He completed 29 of 35 passes for 319 yards and three touchdowns. The pass defense for the Broncos has been one of their stronger suits, as they were holding teams to an average of 210.3 YPG. Shelby Harris racked up three sacks in addition to five tackles in the game.

While the Broncos look to bounce back from a tough loss, the Bills are coming off an easy victory over the Miami Dolphins. Buffalo beat Miami, 37-20, in South Florida behind a four touchdown performance from quarterback Josh Allen. Allen totaled 256 yards in the air and three touchdowns. As a team, the Bills tallied 168 yards rushing and John Brown had nine receptions for a season-high 137 yards and two touchdowns.

The Bills defense is ranked third in points allowed, yards allowed and passing yards allowed. Against Miami, they sacked quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick seven times and held the Dolphins running game to 23 yards. Tremaine Edwards led the team with 12 tackles and half of a sack, while Matt Milano chipped in seven tackles and half of a sack.

After a disappointing 2018-19 season, the Minnesota Timberwolves are poised to make a run at a playoff spot in the Western Conference, which is more wide open than in years past. Being a mid-market team in a league that functions on superstars teaming up is never easy. Free agents likely aren’t going to flock to your city. The solution? Draft well, trade well and build a solid foundation. That’s exactly what the Timberwolves have done through patience. It all starts with finding two young talents and developing them into emerging superstars. Karl-Anthony Towns and Andrew Wiggins were both drafted by Minnesota, both took some time to mature and now both are entering the primes of their careers and looking ready for breakout years.

Towns and Wiggins are both averaging above 25 points per game, which is tops for their young careers. It’s clear to see that they are the driving force behind the Wolves’ success. With a strong supporting cast that features Jeff Teague and Robert Covington, Minnesota has a chance to not only make the playoffs but advance past the first round, something it hasn’t done since 2004. Rebuilding is never easy, but it certainly appears that Minnesota is on the right track. With some luck and good decisions, this could be the start of something special.

The most exciting and important game of the weekend will take place in South America: the 2019 Copa Libertadores Finals on Saturday. Flamengo vs. River Plate

When: Saturday, November 23

Time: 3:30 p.m. ET

TV: beINSports

Live Stream: fuboTV (watch for free)

Flamengo and River Plate arrive in Lima, Peru as the two undisputed best teams in South America. It would have been a shame if they faced each other early in the tournament, but the draw made sure it didn’t happen and we all get to watch it in the last game. Flamengo is one of the most exciting teams in the world at the moment due to the arrival of coach Jorge Jesus in July, along with the signings of established European veterans such as Rafinha and Filipe Luís. They have transformed this team into a scoring machine that is running away with the Brazilian league title and clinched a place in the Libertadores final with a 5-0 second leg win over 2017 champions Gremio. Flamengo hasn’t played this game in 38 years, so the anticipation and excitement is palpable.

If Flamengo has the flair and the goals, River Plate has the experience. Under coach Marcelo Gallardo, who could be off to Barcelona in the coming months, River went from the second division in Argentina to two Libertadores titles since 2015. Now it has the chance to go back-to-back, which is a very rare thing in South America. River is not as explosive as Flamengo, but are extremely well coached and capable of adapting to any situation, which means the team can go from an ultra defensive side to an attacking juggernaut in the same game at the snap of a finger. They say styles make fights, and this could be a fight for the ages. Missing this one would be a bad mistake.

Saints climb to 9.5-point favorites for Week 12 vs. Panthers

The New Orleans Saints were already favored to beat the Carolina Panthers, but the updated point spread has risen further in their favor.

[jwplayer WU2Y8Ngc]

The New Orleans Saints have to like their chances against the Carolina Panthers. Carolina is reeling, with Cam Newton lost for the year and his promising backup, Kyle Allen, trying to recover from a four-interception meltdown versus the Atlanta Falcons (a game the Panthers lost 29-3).

According to updated odds from BetMGM, the Saints have risen to 9.5-point favorites over the Panthers, but the over/under has dropped to 46.5. That projects a final score of Saints 28, Panthers 18, which would be their fourth consecutive double-digit victory (a Week 10 loss to those same surging Falcons notwithstanding). When the Saints give opponents their due diligence and execute well, there isn’t a team in the NFL that should scare them.

Trouble comes when New Orleans either underestimates their opponent or makes too many mistakes on game day. The Saints have generally made smart preparations this year (again, that Falcons upset is glaring) but they have been prone to in-game errors, especially holding penalties on offense.

If the Saints start off on the wrong foot and let Carolina hang around in this game, the Panthers have enough talent to give them trouble. Playing divisional opponents — who have the benefit of extended previous experience and familiar knowledge of play-calling tendencies — is almost always a tall order. Here’s hoping that Falcons loss helped galvanize the Saints and gave them ample motivation to push towards the playoffs.

The Colts and Texans, with identical 6-4 records, clash in a primetime matchup Thursday night in Houston. This marks the second meeting of the season between the top-ranked AFC South squads. Indianapolis leads the all-time series 28-8, including a 30-23 victory four weeks ago in Week 7.

Indianapolis snapped a two-game losing streak by beating the Jaguars 33-13 at home. Jacoby Brissett, who totaled 326 yards and four touchdowns last time against the Texans, returned from injury and picked up 148 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. The team relied less on the passing game and more on the run with the unit combining for 264 yards and three touchdowns for the fourth-ranked rushing attack in the NFL. Jonathan Williams had 13 carries for 116 yards, while Marlon Mack picked up 109 yards and one touchdown to bring his total to 865 yards on the season (fifth in the NFL). Unfortunately, Mack will undergo hand surgery and be out indefinitely, causing a huge blow to the offense and shifting the weight back onto Brissett.

On the defensive side of the ball, the Colts picked up two sacks and forced Nick Foles to throw one interception. The key was its ability to stop the run and hold Leonard Fournette to just 23 yards. Kenny Moore II led the team with eight tackles and one sack, while rookie Rock Ya-Sin racked up six tackles and the lone interception. The Colts will need to put pressure on Deshaun Watson and force the Texans to beat them in the passing game.

Sacks, sacks, and more sacks. The Baltimore Ravens defense was in the face of Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson all afternoon as they were destroyed 41-7 on the road. Watson completed 18 of 29 passes for 169 yards, one interception and was sacked 7 times. The offensive line will need to keep Watson upright the Texans want to beat the Colts. Carlos Hyde picked up nine carries for 65 yards and one touchdown for a rushing attack that ranks fifth with an average of 140.7 YPG. All-Pro DeAndre Hopkins led the team with seven catches for 80 yards and is the go-to guy for Watson in the passing game.

No defense has had the answer for Baltimore’s Lamar Jackson this season and the Texans were no different. The dual-threat quarterback accounted for over 300 yards and four touchdowns of total offense. Houston allowed 491 yards in the game, including 112 yards and one touchdown to running back Gus Edwards. Mack being sidelined will make the contest a little easier this weekend against the Colts but don’t count out Williams. Not only will they have to account for him, but also a versatile Jacoby Brissett.

The Clippers may have landed the best player in the NBA when acquiring Leonard during the offseason. As the reigning Finals MVP, Leonard’s combination of defensive ability and scoring acumen has him consistently talked about as the best all-around player in the league. Combined with the newly acquired Paul George, the Clippers have two stars that can potentially carry them to the promised land.

But the NBA is about depth as much as it is about star power, and the Clippers have that as well. Defending sixth man of the year Lou Williams is still available to give second units around the league nightmares, while players like Montrezl Harrell should see easier opportunities now that defenses have to focus on Leonard and George. Whether this group can get on the same page in time for a postseason run remains to be seen, but this unit could be the most exciting in the history of the Clippers.

Falcons open as 4.5-point favorites over the Buccaneers in Week 12

The Falcons have looked like a completely different team since coming out of their Week 9 bye. After winning two straight games in dominant fashion, head coach Dan Quinn seems to have figured things out for the time being.

The Falcons have looked like a completely different team since coming out of their Week 9 bye. After winning two straight games in dominant fashion, head coach Dan Quinn seems to have figured things out for the time being.

In Week 12, Atlanta plays its third straight game against an NFC South opponent when the Tampa Bay Buccaneers come to Mercedes-Benz Stadium on Sunday.

The Bucs are 3-7, but appear to be trending in the opposite direction during the team’s first year under head coach Bruce Arians. Quarterback Jameis Winston has thrown for an impressive 3,078 yards and 19 touchdown passes, but has also thrown 18 interceptions and has 22 total turnovers in 2019.

The folks over at Bet MGM currently have the Falcons as 4.5-point favorites over Tampa Bay in Week 12, with the over/under for the game set at 51.5.

Atlanta hasn’t been favored to win a game in awhile, but after allowing just 12 points combined over the past two weeks — with four interceptions and 11 sacks — the oddsmakers have finally come around.

We will see if the Falcons can come away with a third straight victory over an NFC South opponent on Sunday.

NFL odds: Broncos are 3.5-point underdogs against Bills

The Broncos are considered underdogs on the road against the Bills this week.

The Denver Broncos (3-7) are considered 3.5-point underdogs on the road against the Buffalo Bills (7-3) in Week 12, according to BetMGM. The over/under line for combined points scored between the two teams has been set at 37.5.

Last week, the Broncos scored 23 points in a 27-23 loss to the Minnesota Vikings (8-3). The Bills scored 37 points in a 37-20 win over the Miami Dolphins (2-8).

Denver is scoring an average of 17.2 points per game this season and Buffalo is averaging 21.1 points per game. Combined, that’s an average of 38.3 points per contest, which would be slightly over this week’s over/under line.

The Broncos and Bills have faced each other 37 times dating back to 1960 and Buffalo leads the all-time series 20-16-1, including a 13-11 record at home. These two teams last met in 2017, a game the Bills won 26-16.

Browns open as rare double-digit favorites vs. Dolphins in Week 12

It’s just the 3rd time since 1999 the Browns are favored by 10 or more

Winners of two in a row, the Cleveland Browns are riding high. And with the lowly Miami Dolphins coming to town in Week 12, the professional bookmakers believe the Browns will keep the win streak rolling.

The Browns opened as 10.5-point favorites over the Dolphins at BetMGM. That’s the largest point spread currently on the board for Week 12. Cleveland is 4-6 but has won two games in a row. Miami is 2-8 after getting blown out by the New York Jets in Week 11.

This game marks just the third time the Browns have been favored by 10 or more points in the 21st century.

In Week 16 last season, the Browns were 10-point favorites over the Cincinnati Bengals. Cleveland won 26-18 but failed to cover the spread. The only other instance was in 2007, when Romeo Crennel’s Browns beat the San Francisco 49ers 20-7 in Week 17 as 11.5-point favorites at home.

Saints favored by 8.5 points over Panthers for Week 12 opening lines

The opening betting line heavily favored the New Orleans Saints over the Carolina Panthers for their Week 12 NFC South rivalry game.

[jwplayer cfZzcYxP]

The New Orleans Saints rebounded in a big way this week, but the Carolina Panthers look like they’ve regressed hard. This always-tough NFC South rivalry series is set to pick up again in Week 12, and the Saints are clearly favored to win.

Per the opening line from BetMGM, the Saints are 8.5-point home favorites over the Panthers. With an over/under set at 47.5, that implies a final score in the neighborhood of Saints 28, Panthers 19. Not too shabby.

With Cam Newton sidelined for the rest of the year, Carolina has had to rely on Kyle Allen, which has produced mixed results. Allen’s initial success trailed off over the last month, and the Panthers’ record has fallen with it. Allen threw seven touchdown passes against zero interceptions in his first four starts, giving Carolina a four-game unbeaten stretch.

Since then, Allen has completed just three touchdown passes against nine interceptions. And the Panthers have lost three of their last four games to put their season on life support at 5-5, with a difficult road trip against the Saints next on their schedule.

If the Saints defense can be as proactive and disruptive against Carolina as they were versus Jameis Winston and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers — a game in which they stole four interceptions and sacked Winston twice, hitting him a dozen other times — then they can take advantage of Allen, who’s been prone to making mistakes with the game on his shoulders.

Still, both of these teams received their most recent losses to the bottom-feeding Atlanta Falcons. Both squads know they can’t take anything for granted in the NFL, meaning an intense week of practice and preparation is ahead of them.
