New York Islanders at Detroit Red Wings odds, picks, and prediction

Analyzing Saturday’s New York Islanders at Detroit Red Wings odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The New York Islanders (5-10-3) visit the Detroit Red Wings (12-9-3) Saturday for a battle between two teams on streaks. The contest at Little Caesars Arena is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the Islanders vs. Red Wings odds and lines, and make our expert NHL picks, predictions and bets.

The Islanders head into the game having lost nine in a row. New York has scored a combined 2 goals over its last four games and for the season ranks 31st in the NHL, scoring just 1.83 goals per game. The Islander power play (ranked 32nd at 10.2%) has produced just five goals this season.

The Red Wings endured a four-game losing skid from Nov. 15-20, but have bounced back to record four straight victories since. The Wings have scuffled defensively at times, and their 3.13-goals-allowed average ranks 23rd in the league. However, Detroit has been solid on home ice (6-1-0 last seven games) and has allowed just 2.00 GPG in its win streak.

Islanders at Red Wings projected goalies

Ilya Sorkin (5-6-3, 2.39 GAA, .929 SV%) vs. Alex Nedeljkovic (7-3-3, 2.58 GAA, .923 SV%)

Sorkin stopped 33-of-35 in a Thursday overtime loss to the San Jose Sharks. The 24-year-old owns a .943 SV% over his last three games and a .927 mark over his last seven.

Nedeljkovic has started 13 of Detroit’s 24 games. The 25-year-old stopped 41-of-42 pucks at Boston Tuesday and owns a fine .926 SV% in even-strength play.

Islanders at Red Wings odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Islanders 4, Red Wings 3

Money line

The Islanders own some puck-possession analytic figures that show them to be a bad offense but not as bad as the numbers they are hoisting on the scoreboard, while Detroit’s recent success isn’t fully supported in shot numbers.

New York is better at creating high-danger scoring chances. TAKE THE ISLANDERS (-112).

Against the spread

PASS on the big tag here in trying to get the Isles by with a 2-goal cushion,

Over/Under

Some stats-geek faith in better days ahead for the NYI offense mix with the right price on shooting for a 6-plus here. TAKE THE OVER 5.5 (+120).

The Oilers enter on a three-game win streak. They’ve posted 4.33 goals per game in victories over the Pittsburgh Penguins, Vegas Golden Knights and Arizona Coyotes in that span.

The Kraken fought hard in a 4-3 shootout loss at the Detroit Red Wings last time out Wednesday, and they were 2-2 on an East Coast road swing. They have won their last two home games.

Oilers at Kraken projected goalies

Stuart Skinner (2-3-0, 2.44 GAA, .928 SV%) vs. Philipp Grubauer (6-9-2, 3.02 GAA, .890 SV%)

Skinner lost his most recent start Nov. 23 in Dallas as he allowed four goals on 33 shots, but he has won two of his last three outings. He is still searching for his first NHL road victory.

Grubauer was on the short end of the first shootout in Kraken history when they suffered a 4-3 loss at Detroit Wednesday. He hasn’t won’t in two starts since turning aside 35 of 36 shots against Carolina Nov. 24.

Oilers at Kraken odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Oilers 5, Kraken 3

Money line

The OILERS (-145) probably would be a little more expensive if Koskinen was in between the pipes. Edmonton has still won seven straight inside the Pacific Division, and 14 of its last 20 road games.

Against the spread

The OILERS -1.5 (+165) are worth a roll of the dice at this price. Edmonton pounded Pittsburgh 5-2 last time out, and three of its last four victories have been by at least two goals. The Kraken are a feisty bunch, but six of their last seven losses have been by two or more goals.

Over/Under

OVER 6.5 (-107) is worth playing, ever so slightly. The Over is 6-1 in the last seven games in Seattle, and 11-3 in the past 14 overall for the Kraken. They have generally been scoring plenty but allowing even more.

The Oilers have cashed the Over in four of the past five as a favorite, too.

New Jersey Devils at Minnesota Wild odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Thursday’s New Jersey Devils at Minnesota Wild odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The New Jersey Devils (9-7-4) visit the Minnesota Wild (15-6-1) Thursday at Xcel Energy Center. Puck drop is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the Devils vs. Wild odds and lines, and make our expert NHL picks, predictions and bets.

The Devils are looking to bounce back after getting pounded by the visiting San Jose Sharks 5-2 Tuesday night in Newark. The Over is on a 3-0 run for New Jersey.

The Wild picked up a 3-2 shootout win against the Devils in New Jersey the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. That kicked off the team’s current four-game win streak.

Devils at Wild odds, spread and lines

Odds provided by Tipico Sportsbook; access USA TODAY Sports Scores and Odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 7:35 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Devils +145 (bet $100 to win $145) | Wild -180 (bet $180 to win $100)
  • Against the spread (ATS): Devils +1.5 (-160) | Wild -1.5 (+125)

Devils at Wild projected goalies

Mac Blackwood (4-2-2, 2.88 GAA, .916 SV%, 1 SO) vs. Cam Talbot (12-5-0, 2.71 GAA, .914 SV%)

Blackwood was in net for that loss to the Sharks last time out, coughing up 4 goals on 30 shots. He yielded 2 goals on 27 shots in the 3-2 shootout loss to the Wild Nov. 24.

Talbot has allowed just 5 goals on the past 103 shots during his three-game win streak. He went 7-3-0 with a 2.82 GAA and .915 GAA in 10 starts in November.

Devils at Wild odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Wild 5, Devils 2

Money line

The WILD (-180) are a little on the expensive side, but it’s not terribly out of line considering they’re at home and a first-place team.

Minnesota has won four straight, and 28 of the past 36 games at home. On the flip side, New Jersey is just 2-6 in the past eight, and 5-13 across its past 18 games on the road.

Against the spread

The WILD -1.5 (+125) are a decent play. Minnesota has outscored the opposition 16-5 across the past three games, winning by 2 or more goals in each.

Over/Under

While the OVER 5.5 (-140) is also a little on the expensive side, it’s not a bad play. Minnesota has the potential to take care of the Over all by itself. The Over has hit in each of the past three for Minnesota, and six of the previous seven outings.

Colorado Avalanche at Montreal Canadiens odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Thursday’s Colorado Avalanche at Montreal Canadiens odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Colorado Avalanche (11-7-1) visit the Montreal Canadiens (6-16-2) Thursday at Bell Centre. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the Avalanche vs. Canadiens odds and lines, and make our expert NHL picks, predictions and bets.

The Avalanche took the beats in Toronto, falling 8-3 to the red-hot Maple Leafs. Jonas Johansson took one for the team in the back-to-back situation, allowing all eight goals on 41 shots, as Darcy Kuemper is dealing with an upper-body injury.

The Canadiens were on the short end of a 2-1 loss to the Vancouver Canucks Monday, losing for the sixth time in regulation over the past eight outings. The Canadiens have won just five times in the past 21 games as an underdog.

Odds provided by Tipico Sportsbook; access USA TODAY Sports Scores and Odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 7:20 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Avalanche -175 (bet $175 to win $100) | Canadiens +140 (bet $100 to win $140)
  • Against the spread (ATS): Avalanche -1.5 (+140) | Canadiens +1.5 (-180)

Avalanche at Canadiens projected goalies

Jonas Johansson (2-1-1, 2.92 GAA, .911 SV%) vs. Jake Allen (5-10-1, 2.96 GAA, .907 SV%, 2 SO)

Johansson was pounded by the Leafs for eight goals. University of Toronto goalie Jett Alexander was the emergency backup to start, as Justus Annunen was recalled from the Colorado Eagles after the late scratch to Kuemper.

Allen has allowed five goals on 92 shots across the past two starts, and he was a respectable 3-4-1 with a 3.00 GAA and .907 GAA with a shutout in nine appearances in November.

Avalanche at Canadiens odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Canadiens 4, Avalanche 3

Money line

The CANADIENS (+140) are worth a roll of the dice, as they catch the Avalanche (-175) between a rock and a hard place. Johansson was hammered for eight goals last night, and the depleted Avs face a tough turnaround in less than 24 hours.

The good news is the Avalanche (-175) is 6-0 in the past six when playing on no rest, but you can’t risk this much on a team that was dusted 8-3 less than 24 hours ago.

Against the spread

The CANADIENS +1.5 (-180) are worth a look if you want a little insurance, as this price isn’t terribly out of line. The Habs have had trouble scoring goals lately, so it is hard to pull the trigger and take them straight up, even in a favorable spot.

Over/Under

The OVER 6.5 (-115) is the lean, again due to the uncertain goal situation for the Avs, and the lack of rest. Allen has allowed nearly three goals per game, so we should see quite a bit of offense in this one.

Analyzing Wednesday’s Pittsburgh Penguins at Edmonton Oilers odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Pittsburgh Penguins (10-7-5) visit the Edmonton Oilers (15-5-0) Wednesday at Rogers Place. Puck drop is scheduled for 10 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the Penguins vs. Oilers odds and lines, and make our expert NHL picks, predictions and bets.

The Penguins suffered a 2-1 loss in a shootout to the Flames in Calgary Monday in the front end of their Alberta trip. Pittsburgh has now dropped two games in a row after a five-game win streak.

The Oilers have won consecutive road games against the Vegas Golden Knights and Arizona Coyotes. They’re also working on a five-game win streak at home dating back to Oct. 27 when they suffered a 5-3 setback against the Philadelphia Flyers.

Penguins at Oilers projected goalies

Tristan Jarry (10-4-4, 1.85 GAA, .938 SV%, 3 SO) vs. Mikko Koskinen (11-2-0, 2.89 GAA, .912 SV%)

Jarry allowed just one goal on 32 shots in the 2-1 shootout loss in Calgary, snapping a five-start win streak that included three shutouts. He has allowed two or fewer goals in seven straight appearances.

Koskinen as won two in a row and wrapped up November with a 7-1-0 record, 3.25 GAA and .898 SV% in eight appearances. He has won four of his five home starts.

Penguins at Oilers odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Penguins 4, Oilers 3

Money line

The PENGUINS (+102) have registered victories in 19 of their last 25 meetings with the Oilers, including in each of their last six trips to Edmonton. The road team is 4-1 in the past five meetings, too. Jarry has been one of the best goaltenders in the game and the Penguins are a great play as short ‘dogs with him in the crease.

Against the spread

The Penguins +1.5 (-250) are too costly at two and a half times your potential return if you would like a little insurance.

AVOID, and trust the Pens straight up.

Over/Under

The OVER 6.5 (-107) is the lean, ever so slightly. It’s been all Under all the time for Pittsburgh with Jarry in net, but he hasn’t faced the likes of C Connor McDavid, C Leon Draisaitl and company. They’ll get theirs, even if they’re the only ones. While Koskinen has been winning, he has given up more than three goals in five of his last six appearances.

Anaheim Ducks at Colorado Avalanche odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Wednesday’s Anaheim Ducks at Colorado Avalanche odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Anaheim Ducks (10-6-3) visit the Colorado Avalanche (9-5-1) Wednesday at Ball Arena in Denver. Puck drop is scheduled for 9 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the Ducks vs. Avalanche odds and lines, and make our expert NHL picks, predictions and bets.

The Ducks have dropped back-to-back one-goal games after an eight-game win streak from Oct. 31 through Nov. 16. Defensive play and goaltending have been the key to Anaheim’s success as the Under is 7-2 across the past nine outings.

The Avalanche outlasted the Ottawa Senators 7-5 in a wild game Monday last time out and enter on a five-game win streak. Colorado is averaging 6.2 goals per game across the past five outings and the Over is 6-0-1 in its last seven games overall.

Ducks at Avalanche projected goalies

John Gibson (9-4-2, 2.36 GAA, .925 SV%, 1 SO) vs. Darcy Kuemper (9-4-0, 2.79 GAA, .906 SV%)

Gibson has been on the losing end of the past two starts in Nashville and against Carolina, although he allowed just five goals on 66 shots. He is an impressive 6-2-0 with a 1.86 GAA and .941 SV% and a shutout in eight November starts.

Kuemper has won five consecutive starts and has allowed three or fewer goals in nine of his past 10 outings. He coughed up five goals on 20 shots last time out Monday but still topped the Sens 7-5.

Ducks at Avalanche odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Avalanche 5, Ducks 3

Money line

The Avalanche (-240) is quite expensive as it costs you nearly two and a half times your potential return. That’s not a recommended bet on a team which is scoring plenty but also giving up a lot of goals.

PASS, and play the puck line.

Against the spread

The AVALANCHE -1.5 (+110) is a much better play at nearly even money on the puck line. Colorado is putting up a ridiculous amount of goals lately. While Anaheim has started the season very well, and it has a very good penalty kill, Colorado is the play on home ice. The Ducks have dropped four straight against the Avs.

Over/Under

The OVER 5.5 (-122) is a great play, cashing in six of the past seven meetings between these clubs in Colorado.

The Over is also 5-2 in the past seven road games for the Ducks and 4-0 in the Avalanche’s last four at home. The Over is 6-0-1 in the past seven for Colorado as a favorite and it’s been scoring so frequently lately that there is an outside chance it takes care of the Over on its own.

The Flyers were dropped 5-2 by the Boston Bruins Saturday in their last outing and were on the short end of a 4-3 score in a shootout against Tampa Bay two games back in Philadelphia.

Flyers at Lightning projected goalies

Carter Hart (5-3-3, 2.25 GAA, .932 SV%, 1 SO) vs. Andrei Vasilevskiy (8-3-3, 2.38 GAA, .917 SV%)

Hart lost to the Lightning last time out Thursday when he allowed three goals on 32 shots. C Brayden Point scored on the power play, while RW Mathieu Joseph and C Steven Stamkos also beat Hart in regulation.

Vasilevskiy turned aside 27 of the 30 shots he faced in regulation and overtime and stopped forwards Sean Couturier and Claude Giroux in the shootout for the extra point Thursday in Philadelphia.

Flyers at Lightning odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Lightning 5, Flyers 3

Money line

LIGHTNING (-180) is the play Tuesday night. They won in Philadelphia in the first meeting and they’ll top the Flyers on home ice.

Philadelphia has won just once in its last five tries against teams with a winning record while cashing in just two of the last seven against Eastern Conference opponents. In addition, the Flyers have won just three times in the past 15 trips to Tampa Bay.

Against the spread

The LIGHTNING -1.5 (+140) are worth a small-unit play on the puck line. Four of the last eight victories for Tampa Bay have been by two or more goals. On the flip side, three of the past four losses for the Flyers have been by two or more goals.

Over/Under

The OVER 5.5 (-115) has connected in five of the last six meetings between these clubs in Tampa Bay.

The Over is also 3-1 in the past four games for the Fly Guys, while the Over has hit in each of the last three for the Lightning. The Over is the best play on the board in this game.

Colorado Avalanche at Seattle Kraken odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Friday’s Colorado Avalanche at Seattle Kraken odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Colorado Avalanche (7-5-1) visit the Seattle Kraken (4-11-1) Friday at Climate Pledge Arena. Puck drop is scheduled for 10 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the Avalanche vs. Kraken odds and lines, and make our expert NHL picks, predictions and bets.

The Avalanche ride a three-game win streak into Seattle for their first crack against the Kraken. Colorado doubled up Vancouver 4-2 Wednesday and have outscored the opposition 17-5 over the three-game span.

The Kraken were on the short end of a 4-2 loss to the Chicago Blackhawks Wednesday, and have lost five straight while being outscored 24-14. The good news is Seattle has scored at least two goals in seven straight.

Avalanche at Kraken projected goalies

Darcy Kuemper (7-4-0, 2.56 GAA, .916 SV%) vs. Chris Driedger (0-1-0, 3.43 GAA, .833 SV%)

Kuemper has won each start during the team’s three-game win streak and is 3-1-0 with a 2.00 GAA and .937 SV% in four November starts. He has been more giving on the road this year with 3.18 GAA on the road (compared to 2.03 GAA at home).

Driedger is confirmed to start, giving Philipp Grubauer a much-needed rest. It’s his first appearance since allowing four goals on 23 shots in a loss at the Vegas Golden Knights Nov. 9.

Avalanche at Kraken odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Avalanche 5, Kraken 2

Money line

The AVALANCHE (-150) are the play against Driedger who could be a little rusty after such a long layoff. The Kraken have been able to score but haven’t been up to snuff defensively.

Against the spread

The AVALANCHE -1.5 (+165) is a good play against the very giving Kraken. Seattle has allowed a total of 24 goals, 4.8 goals per outing, over their five-game skid and that’s bad news with a game against the high-octane Avalanche on the horizon.

Over/Under

The OVER 5.5 (-130) is the play for this one. The Over has cashed in seven straight games for the Kraken, with an average of 7.43 combined goals per game in the previous seven outings for Seattle.

Winnipeg Jets at Vancouver Canucks odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Friday’s Winnipeg Jets at Vancouver Canucks odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Winnipeg Jets (9-3-4) visit the Vancouver Canucks (5-10-2) Friday at Rogers Arena. Puck drop is scheduled for 10 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the Jets vs. Canucks odds and lines, and make our expert NHL picks, predictions and bets.

The Jets were dumped 2-1 in a shootout Thursday at the Edmonton Oilers, and now have the quick turnaround with the back-to-back. Winnipeg lost its only back end of a back-to-back this season 2-0 against the New York Islanders Nov. 6.

The Canucks lost for the fifth straight game (0-4-1) when they last played Wednesday. Vancouver has been outscored 23-8 over the four regulation losses, with G Thatcher Demko between the pipes for three of the defeats.

Jets at Canucks projected goalies

Eric Comrie (3-1-0, 1.98 GAA, .926 SV%) vs. Thatcher Demko (5-7-1, 3.31 GAA, .898 SV%)

The Jets are likely to tab Comrie after Connor Hellebuyck started against the Oilers Thursday. He allowed two goals on 31 shots in a 2-0 loss to the Islanders in his last outing in the back end of the Jets’ previous back-to-back situation.

The Canucks are giving Demko a chance to iron out his issues, as he has dropped three straight, allowing 16 goals on just 94 shots. He is 2-4-0 with a 4.26 GAA and .863 SV% across six starts in November.

Jets at Canucks odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Jets 5, Canucks 2

Money line

The JETS (-110) are playing on no rest, so there is a concern there, but they should be buzzing and able to generate offense against the skidding Demko. He has been very giving of late.

Against the spread

The JETS -1.5 (+195) are a worth a shot on the puck line for a chance to nearly double up. Demko has yielded 5.33 goals per game across his past three outings, so if Winnipeg has any energy in those legs after a tough shootout loss last night it should be able to get to him. The only concern is tired legs, not the opposing goalie.

Over/Under

The OVER 5.5 (-125) is the play, but again, the concern is the second end of a back-to-back. The Jets were blanked when they faced this situation before. That was also against a good Islanders team, not one of the most inconsistent teams in the league with a very giving goalie. It should be different this time around, so look for at least six total goals.

Detroit Red Wings at Vegas Golden Knights odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Thursday’s Detroit Red Wings at Vegas Golden Knights odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Detroit Red Wings (8-8-2) visit the Vegas Golden Knights (9-7-0) Thursday at T-Mobile Arena. Puck drop is scheduled for 10 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the Red Wings vs. Golden Knights odds and lines, and make our expert NHL picks, predictions and bets.

The Red Wings have dropped two in a row to start their current four-game road trip, losing 5-2 at the Dallas Stars Tuesday, and 5-3 at the Columbus Blue Jackets Monday. The Over hit in each of the outings.

The Golden Knights suffered a 5-2 loss at the Red Wings Nov. 7 in the season’s first meeting between the two clubs. Detroit G Thomas Greiss outdueled Vegas G Laurent Brossoit in a battle of backup goaltenders.

Red Wings at Golden Knights projected goalies

Thomas Greiss (4-5-0, 3.20 GAA, .907 SV%) vs. Robin Lehner (7-6-0, 2.93 GAA, .917 SV%)

Greiss was on the short end of a 5-3 loss in Columbus Monday, making 33 saves in the setback. He has a 1-3-0 record with a 3.31 GAA and .909 SV% in four November outings, but the lone win was against VGK Nov. 7.

Lehner turned aside 38 of the 42 shots in a 4-2 loss against the Carolina Hurricanes Tuesday, snapping his four-game win streak. He has allowed 2 or fewer goals in three of his past five outings.

Red Wings at Golden Knights odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Golden Knights 5, Red Wings 3

Money line

The GOLDEN KNIGHTS (-175) are moderate favorites and a bit risky considering the Red Wings won the first meeting in Detroit. However, VGK is on its home ice, in front of its raucous fans, and Lehner will be in between the pipes, not Brossoit. Look for Vegas to return the favor.

Against the spread

The GOLDEN KNIGHTS -1.5 (+145) are a nice value at home. Four of the past five victories for Vegas have been by 2 or more goals, so if you like Vegas to win, you should like them on the puck line, too.

Over/Under

The OVER 5.5 (-115) is the lean as the Over has hit in four straight on the road for the Red Wings, and eight of the past 10 as road underdogs.

For the Golden Knights, the Over is 5-0 in the past five as favorites, while going 5-1-1 in the past seven games overall.
