Colorado Avalanche at Winnipeg Jets Game 5 odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Tuesday’s Colorado Avalanche at Winnipeg Jets odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Colorado Avalanche and Winnipeg Jets meet in Game 5 of a best-of-7 Western Conference, 1st-round series Tuesday. The Avalanche lead the series 3-1. Puck drop from Canada Life Centre is scheduled for 9:30 p.m. ET (ESPN). Below, we analyze FanDuel Sportsbook’s lines around the Avalanche vs. Jets odds and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

After falling 7-6 in Game 1 of this series, Colorado has outscored the Jets 16-5 over its 3 consecutive wins.

RW Valeri Nichushkin has found the back of the net in all 4 games this series, including his 1st career hat trick in Game 4, and leads the team in postseason goals (6). LW Artturi Lehkonen also has goals in every game, and his 7 points are tied with C Nathan MacKinnon for 2nd-most this postseason, with D Cale Makar leading the way with 8.

Only the LA Kings (8) have allowed more power-play goals than Winnipeg (6) this postseason.

Jets coach Rick Bowness told reporters Tuesday that issues with discipline have taken them out of games. The 69-year-old, who became the oldest coach to win a Stanley Cup playoff game this season, also lamented that Colorado is getting too many chances off the rush due to his team’s puck management issues.

  • Over/Under (O/U): 6.5 (O: -115 | U: -105)

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3012″ ]

Avalanche at Jets projected goalies

Alexandar Georgiev (6-6, 2.70 GAA, .907 SV% in 11 career playoff games) vs. Connor Hellebuyck (18-26, 2.80 GAA, .912 SV%, 3 SO in 44 career playoff games)

Georgiev played the most minutes in the league (3637) during the regular season, with Hellebuyck wrapping up with the 3rd-most (3567). Since surrendering 7 goals in Game 1, the 28-year-old has settled in, as he’s won 3 straight starts, sporting a .938 SV% during that stretch.

Hellebuyck will probably win the Vezina Trophy after finishing the regular season with the 2nd-most saves (1656) and best GAA (2.39) among goaltenders with mininimum 50 games played. However, his last 2 postseasons have not been good statically. The 30-year-old is 2-7 vs. the Vegas Golden Knights and Avalanche, sporting a sub-.880 SV% in 9 starts.

Avalanche at Jets picks and predictions

Prediction

Avalanche 4, Jets

Moneyline

BET AVALANCHE (-115).

MacKinnon has the 2nd-shortest odds to win the Conn Smythe Trophy (+1200 at FanDuel Sportsbook) and has double-digit point outputs in 3 of the 4 games this series, as does RW Mikko Rantanen.

The addition of LW Zach Parise this season has bolstered this team’s playoff pedigree, and Makar and D Devon Toews make such a strong top defenseman pairing. Expect Colorado to stay focused and wrap up this series.

Puck line/Against the spread

PASS.

Way too much juice to back Winnipeg +1.5 (-260). With the end of the season upon the horizon, there is the possibility Bowness desperately pulls Hellebuyck with a lot of time left, which can lead to 1 or more empty-net goals.

Over/Under

BET OVER 6.5 (-115).

Only Nashville Predators D Roman Josi (22) has more regular-season goals among defensemen than Makar (21), who won the Conn Smythe Trophy back in 2022. Colorado is an offensive juggernaut and could end up chasing Hellebuyck early, just like in Game 4 when G Laurent Brossoit finished.

Winnipeg Jets at Colorado Avalanche Game 4 odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Sunday’s Winnipeg Jets at Colorado Avalanche odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Winnipeg Jets try to even things up against the Colorado Avalanche in Game 4 of their best-of-7 Western Conference, 1st-round series at Ball Arena on Sunday. The Avs lead the series 2-1. Puck drop is set for 2:30 p.m. ET (TNT). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Jets vs. Avalanche odds, and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

The Jets got smoked 5-2 in Game 2 Tuesday and 6-2 on Friday. They actually led Game 3 going into the 3rd 2-1 before Colorado exploded for 5 goals. LW Kyle Connor has been quiet since his 2 Game 1 goals with an assist and 4 total shots on goal in the past 2 games.

C Nathan MacKinnon had a goal and an assist while landing 8 shots on goal. He has a point in every series and 2+ points in 2 of the 3. The Avs appear to be finding their offensive stride at just the right time. The 3rd period of Game 3 proved they can still flip a game over on a dime.

  • Over/Under (O/U): 6.5 (O: -120 | U: +100)

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3012″ ]

Jets at Avalanche projected goalies

Connor Hellebuyck (37-4-1, 2.35 GAA, .925 SV%, 2 SO) vs. Alexandar Georgiev (36-15-5, 2.57 GAA, .907 SV%, 2 SO)

Hellebuyck has not been good this entire series. He has allowed 6, 4 and 5 goals in the 3 games for a 5.05 GAA and .871 SV%. He has to tighten it up or else the Jets are going home.

Georgiev has turned his play around. After giving up 7 goals in Game 1, he stopped 50 of 54 shots in Games 2 and 3. As long as he can keep the Jets at 4 or under, the Avs have a really good shot.

Jets at Avalanche picks and predictions

Prediction

Avalanche 5, Jets 3

Moneyline

I’m not usually keen on paying -165 for a ML, but it makes sense here. The Avs can score with anyone and have scored 5+ goals in each game of the series. With Georgiev finding his stride, they’ll back to being lethal.

Take the AVALANCHE -165.

Puck line/Against the spread

After just 2 SOG in Game 2, MacKinnon roared back with 8 shots in Game 3. It’s a little chalky, but I like NATHAN MACKINNON OVER 4.5 SHOTS (-145).

Over/Under

Every game has gone Over thus far, and I don’t see any reason to believe that it won’t continue. The Over is 6-1-3 in the last 10 meetings between the teams.

Take the OVER 6.5 (-120).

Winnipeg Jets at Colorado Avalanche Game 3 odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Friday’s Winnipeg Jets at Colorado Avalanche odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Winnipeg Jets and Colorado Avalanche meet Friday in Game 3 of a best-of-7 Western Conference 1st-round series. Puck drop from Ball Arena is scheduled for 10 p.m. ET (TNT). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Jets vs. Avalanche odds, and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

Playoff series: Tied 1-1

The Jets posted a wild 7-6 victory in Game 1, as Kyle Connor and Adam Lowry each scored 2 goals. Connor Hellebuyck was good for 40 saves on 46 shots to outlast the Avalanche.

In Game 2, the Avs beat Hellebuyck for 4 goals on 31 shots, as Colorado leveled the series with a 5-2 victory. The Over (6.5) barely cashed, but is 2-0 in this series, with an average of 10.0 combined goals per game.

The Avalanche had goals from Miles Wood, Artturi Lehkonen, Zach Parise, Josh Manson and Valeri Nichushkin, and some of those guys are unlikely sources of offense. Nichushkin and Wood have 2 goals and 4 points in the series, while Lehkonen is good for 2 goals and 6 points in the 2 games.

  • Over/Under (O/U): 6.5 (O: -110 | U: -110)

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3012″ ]

Jets at Avalanche projected goalies

Connor Hellebuyck (37-19-4, 2.39 GAA, .921 SV%, 5 SO – regular season) vs. Alexander Georgiev (38-18-5, 3.02 GAA, .897 SV%, 2 SO – regular season)

Hellebuyck has some ugly numbers in this series, going 1-1-0 with a 5.04 GAA and .870% in the 2 games in Winnipeg. We expected this to be a high-scoring series, but this has been ridiculous. Still, it’s unlikely that we’ll see the backup Laurent Brossoit barring an injury.

Georgiev was tagged for 7 goals on just 23 shots in Game 1, but he was much better in Game 2, limiting Winnipeg to only 2 goals on 30 shots in the win. Still, he is 1-1-0 with an unseemly 4.63 GAA and .830 SV%, but there is little chance we’ll see the backup Justus Annunen, especially since he hasn’t been quite 100 percent healthy lately.

Jets at Avalanche picks and predictions

Prediction

Avalanche 4, Jets 3

Moneyline

The AVALANCHE (-175) is worth playing, although this is a little pricey given the high-octane offenses on both sides. The 1st 2 games showed us that we’re going to have a lot of wide-open hockey with very little defense, and no lead is safe.

The Jets (+145) are a tempting play as moderate underdogs, but Georgiev, Cale Makar and the rest of the Avs tossed a blanket on Winnipeg defensively, making the proper adjustments after Game 1, so be careful there.

Puck line/Against the spread

The Jets +1.5 (-275) would set you back nearly 3 times your potential return, if you’re searching for a little insurance, and just can’t back Winnipeg straight up. That’s not a recommended betting strategy, as the reward is just so little with a ton of risk.

AVOID.

Over/Under

OVER 6.5 (-110) is a good play, and it has been an ace in this series so far. We’ll see if the change of venue makes a difference, as things shift to the Mile High City. It’s unlikely to mean a slow down in offense, though.

Colorado has cashed the Over in 8 of the past 9 games since April 4, scoring 3.89 goals per game (GPG) in those 9 contests, while allowing 4.5 GPG (36 goals) in the past 8 outings.

The Jets have cashed the Over in 5 in a row, too, going for 4 or more goals in 4 of those games. Go high, until the defenses actually show up.

Colorado Avalanche at Winnipeg Jets Game 2 odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Tuesday’s Colorado Avalanche at Winnipeg Jets odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Colorado Avalanche try to rebound against the Winnipeg Jets in Game 2 of their best-of-7 Western Conference, 1st-round series at Canada Life Centre Tuesday. Puck drop is set for 9:30 p.m. ET (ESPN). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Avalanche vs. Jets odds, and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

We cashed all 3 bets as the Jets held on for a 7-6 win in Game 1 Sunday. C Nathan MacKinnon had a goal and an assist, and RD Cale Makar had a goal and 2 assists. The Avs’ bugaboo rendered its head again, though, as G Alexandar Georgiev allowed 7 goals on 23 shots.

The Jets got up 6-3 a few minutes into the final period, but the Avs made it close. G Connor Hellebuyck was treated like a firing squad, stopping 40 of 46 shots. LW Kyle Connor stepped up with 2 goals in the 3rd period to keep his team afloat. The Jets have now won all 4 meetings against the Avs this season.

  • Over/Under (O/U): 6.5 (O: +100 | U: -120)

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3012″ ]

Avalanche at Jets projected goalies

Alexandar Georgiev (36-15-5, 2.57 GAA, .907 SV%, 2 SO) vs. Connor Hellebuyck (7-4-1, 2.35 GAA, .925 SV%, 2 SO)

Georgiev has been a dumpster fire of late, allowing 4+ goals in 5 of 6 starts to end the regular season. He was 0-2 with a 5.66 GAA and .833 SV% in 2 starts against the Jets this year before allowing 7 goals on 23 shots in Game 1. The team could turn to backup Justus Annunen, who was bothered by an illness coming into the series. At the very least, Georgiev will have a short hook.

“Helley” was very human in this one, allowing 6 to go by but stopping 40 in the process. He struggled in the playoffs last season, going 1-4 with a 3.44 GAA and .886 SV%, which is a big cause for concern. If this series becomes a track meet, the Avs would benefit. Hellebuyck stopped 92 of 96 shots the Avs fired at him in 3 regular season games.

Avalanche at Jets picks and predictions

Prediction

Jets 4, Avalanche 3

Moneyline

The Jets showed resilience in Game 1. Colorado went up 3-2 with under 5 to go in the 1st, and they tied it 48 seconds later. The Jets scored the next 3 goals, and the Avs made a run, but it wasn’t enough.

The problem, though, is that the Jets can’t survive a lengthy track meet. They don’t have the elite players to keep up with MacKinnon, Makar and RW Mikko Rantanen. Conversely, the Avs can’t compete if their goalie is Swiss cheese between the pipes. The books like the Avalanche to counter. I don’t think they do until they hit home ice, though.

Take the JETS +100.

Puck line/Against the spread

I’m going to PASS on the puck line and go right back to the well.

Hellebuyck had 40 saves in Game 1 and 30+ saves in all 3 meetings during the regular season.

Take CONNOR HELLEBUYCK OVER 29.5 SAVES (-130).

Over/Under

We cashed an Over 5.5 in the 1st period of Game 1. The books have reacted, but I still like the Over.

The final scores of each matchup this season were 7-6, 7-0, 6-2 and 4-2. It’s not nearly as attractive as Game 1, but LEAN OVER 6.5 (+100).

Colorado Avalanche at Winnipeg Jets Game 1 odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Sunday’s Colorado Avalanche at Winnipeg Jets Game 1 odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Colorado Avalanche (50-25-7) hit the road to face the Winnipeg Jets (52-24-6) in Game 1 of their 1st-round series at Canada Life Centre. Puck drop is set for 7 p.m. ET (ESPN2). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Avalanche vs. Jets odds, and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

The Avs are in the unusual spot of 3rd place in the Central Division as they struggled between the pipes, tied for 16th with 3.07 goals allowed per game. They still have a great offense, leading the league with 3.68 goals per game (GPG). C Nathan MacKinnon took his game to another level with 140 points and put his name firmly in the running for the Hart Trophy.

The Jets go as G Connor Hellebuyck goes, and they were tied for 1st with 2.41 goals allowed per game. Offensively, the Jets were 15th with 3.16 GPG and 22nd on the power play at 18.8%. LW Kyle Connor led the team with 34 goals in 65 games. The Jets beat up on the Avs this season, going 3-0 and outscoring them 17-4 in the process.

Avalanche at Jets projected goalies

Alexandar Georgiev (36-15-5, 2.57 GAA, .907 SV%, 2 SO) vs. Connor Hellebuyck (7-4-1, 2.35 GAA, .925 SV%, 2 SO)

Georgiev struggled to end the season, allowing 4+ goals in 5 of 6 starts. In one of those, he was yanked 15 minutes into it against Winnipeg after allowing 4 goals on 15 shots. He was 0-2 with a 5.66 GAA and .833 SV% in 2 starts against the Jets this year. He is 3-5 with a 2.53 GAA and .917 SV% in 9 career playoff games.

“Helley” is a front runner for the Vezina Trophy after posting the 2nd-best SV% in the league. He also stopped the 2nd-most shots with the 2nd-most wins. He struggled in the playoffs last season, going 1-4 with a 3.44 GAA and .886 SV%. His workload during the regular season came under fire, and he made 4 fewer starts this season. He is 17-23 with a 2.58 GAA and .916 SV% in 40 career playoff games.

Avalanche at Jets picks and predictions

Prediction

Jets 4, Avalanche 3

Moneyline

The Avs enter the playoffs without captain Gabriel Landeskog (knee), who doesn’t appear close to returning. LW Jonathan Drouin, who had 19 goals, is also out with a lower-body injury. They still have enough firepower to ground the Jets. The books do, too, as BetMGM has the Avs -125 to win the series, and the Jets are +105.

I’m not as confident on this Avs team. They really don’t have the confidence in goal to make a deep run. The Jets were 27-11-3 at home this season, and the Avs were just 19-16-6 away from Ball Arena.

The JETS -115 take Game 1.

Puck line/Against the spread

I’m going to PASS on the puck line and look toward the goalies.

Hellebuyck had 30+ saves in all 3 meetings this season, and I believe Colorado will come out of the gates firing.

Take CONNOR HELLEBUYCK OVER 29.5 SAVES (-110).

Over/Under

The final scores of each matchup this season were 7-0, 6-2 and 4-2. We have had 6+ goals in 8 of 10 matchups between the teams.

OVER 5.5 (-120) is my favorite bet in this game.

Edmonton Oilers at Colorado Avalanche odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Thursday’s Edmonton Oilers at Colorado Avalanche odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Edmonton Oilers (49-26-6) take on the Colorado Avalanche (49-25-7) in both teams’ regular season finale Thursday at Ball Arena. Puck drop is set for 9:30 p.m. ET (ESPN). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Oilers vs. Avalanche odds, and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

The Oilers dropped their Wednesday night tilt 5-2 in the final game for what is known as the Arizona Coyotes. C Connor McDavid suited up for his 2nd game after missing 9 days with a lower-body injury. The Oilers have nothing to play for, as they’re locked into the 2nd spot in the Pacific Division. So you could see a lighter minutes load for McDavid.

The Avs have lost 2 straight after being frostbitten by the Winnipeg Jets 7-0 Saturday and dropping an OT game to the Vegas Golden Knights Sunday. They’re locked into the 3rd spot in the Central Division. C Nathan MacKinnon is 6 points behind NHL-leading RW Nikita Kucherov’s 144 points, but he could look to pad some stats to improve his Hart Trophy candidacy.

  • Puck line (PL)/Against the spread (ATS): Oilers +1.5 (-160) | Avalanche -1.5 (+135)
  • Over/Under (O/U): 6.5 (O: -120 | U: +100)

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3012″ ]

Oilers at Avalanche projected goalies

Stuart Skinner (36-15-5, 2.57 GAA, .907 SV%, 2 SO) vs. Justus Annunen (7-4-1, 2.35 GAA, .925 SV%, 2 SO)

Skinner was between the pipes in a 9-2 laugher against the San Jose Sharks Monday. He stopped 19 of 21 shots fired his way and hasn’t seen 30 shots in his last 5 starts. He was in goal for the 6-2 win over Colorado April 5, stopping 22 of 24.

The Avs could go with starter Alexandar Georgiev here, but I don’t know how much sense that would make in a meaningless game. Annunen came on in relief of Georgiev Saturday and allowed 3 goals on 11 shots. He was solid in his last start April 4 against the Minnesota Wild, stopping 44 of 46 fired his way.

Oilers at Avalanche picks and predictions

Prediction

Avalanche 6, Oilers 4

Moneyline

The Avs should prevail on home ice, but there’s no chance we’re spending -185 for it.

I look for MacKinnon to be actively pushing the pace and firing on net, as he’s in a dead heat with Kucherov for the league’s MVP. Take NATHAN MACKINNON OVER 1.5 POINTS (-110).

Puck line/Against the spread

The Avs are 30-9-1 at home, and this game means nothing for either club. I could see them dominating in the altitude.

Take AVALANCHE -1.5 (+135) for a HALF-UNIT.

Over/Under

I don’t really expect a lot of defense to be played here. The Avs haven’t played much of it of late anyway as they’ve given up 6+ goals in 3 of 5. The Over is 7-3 in Colorado’s last 10 and 4-5-1 in Edmonton’s.

Without a lot on the line except for stat padding, I’ll take the OVER 6.5 (-120).

Dallas Stars at Colorado Avalanche odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Sunday’s Dallas Stars at Colorado Avalanche odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Dallas Stars (48-20-9) take on the Colorado Avalanche (48-23-6) Sunday at Ball Arena. Puck drop is set for 10 p.m. ET (ESPN). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Stars vs. Avalanche odds, and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

The Stars had an 8-game winning streak snapped with a 3-2 setback on the road against the Chicago Blackhawks Saturday. This will be their 6th road game in their last 7. Their itinerary has been Arizona, San Jose, Vancouver, Seattle, back home for Edmonton, Chicago and now Colorado. The heavy travel hasn’t bothered C Roope Hintz, who has goals in 3 of 4 games.

The Avs are just 2-3-1 in their last 6 games after dropping Friday’s tilt 6-2 in Edmonton. An even bigger problem was star RW Mikko Rantanen left with an upper body injury that may keep him out of this game. The Avs trail the Stars for the top spot in the Central Division by 3 points with 5 to go.

Stars at Avalanche projected goalies

Jake Oettinger (31-13-4, 2.80 GAA, .903 SV%, 3 SO) vs. Alexandar Georgiev (37-16-4, 2.91 GAA, .900%, 2 SO)

“Otter” is coming off a 5-0 shutout over the mighty Oilers Wednesday. He stopped all 35 shots. He shut out the Seattle Kraken before that, turning aside all 17. He was great against Vancouver before that. In all, he has made 79 saves on 80 shots in his last 3 games. Colorado is a different story, though, as he has allowed 5 goals in both of his starts against them this season.

Georgiev has not been equally as steady, allowing 6, 4, 2 and 4 goals in his last 4 starts. He has been great against Dallas, though. He’s 3-0-0 with a 2.63 GAA and .915 SV% against the Stars this season. Last time he saw them, Feb. 27, he stopped 33 of 34 in a 5-1 win.

The Avs have won 4 straight against Dallas, and the Stars haven’t cracked the Avs at home since 2022. There are reasons to like each side here with the play of Oettinger alongside Rantanen’s potential absence. The heavy travel, the altitude and playing on consecutive days are why I’m going with the AVALANCHE -120.

The Avs are 29-7-1 at home this season and need this game if they want home-ice advantage.

Puck line/Against the spread

I’m not touching either side of the puck line here.

I like NATHAN MACKINNON OVER 4.5 SHOTS (-125).

He hit the mark in 2 of 3 matchups against Dallas this season, and if Rantanen is out, he’ll be even more aggressive.

Over/Under

This number is 2-0-1 in the 3 matchups this year, but there is reason to like the Under. Dallas is 3-7 O/U in their last 10. Colorado is 5-4-1 but could be missing one of the best players in the league. This total would be 1-2-1 in the last 4 in Colorado.

It’s the playoff push, and goals are usually at a premium.

Take the UNDER 6 (+100).

Georgiev was pulled in his last start (March 30 vs. Nashville Predators) after allowing 4 goals in 21 minutes. The Avs netminder has faced Minnesota 5 times over the last 2 seasons, logging a sparkling .932 SV%.

Avalanche at Wild picks and predictions

Prediction

Avalanche 3, Wild 2

Moneyline

Look for a bounce-back effort from the Avalanche in this game. They have been a bit shot-and-save unlucky in 5-on-5 high-danger chances of late.

The Avs are 6-2-1 across their last 9 against the Wild and that includes 3 straight wins in Minneapolis.

FanDuel Sportsbook offers a better leverage price here. BACK COLORADO -162.

Puck line/Against the spread

STEER CLEAR: Colorado’s last 3 wins over Minnesota have been by 1-goal margins.

Over/Under

The Under is 3-1 across the last 4 series meetings and is 6-2 in Minnesota’s last 8 games.

Both teams have been responsible in shutting down 5-on-5 chances recently. Expect some goaltenders-being undervalued aspect to the public’s betting.

BACK THE UNDER 6 (+100).

Predators at Avalanche picks and predictions

Prediction

Avalanche 3, Predators 2

Moneyline

PASS.

There is no value on Colorado (-175), which is 28-7-1 at home this season, to take down the Predators.

Puck line/Against the spread

BET PREDATORS +1.5 (-165).

Both teams are currently towards the top of the NHL with 2 outstanding goalies. While Colorado should be expected to win at home, Nashville is more than capable of keeping this one close. Two of the Predators last 3 games have been decided by a 1-goal margin, while 7 of Colorado’s last 9 games have done the same.

Over/Under

BET UNDER 6.5 (-120).

This game features a matchup between 2 of the top goaltenders in the NHL. Each goalie has below a 3 GAA and has allowed minimal goals in each of their last 6 games. Nashville has hit Under 6.5 in 6 of its last 10 games while allowing 2 or fewer goals in 7 of its last 10. Colorado has hit Under 6.5 in back-to-back games and has allowed 2 or fewer goals in 6 of its last 10.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Colorado Avalanche (42-20-5) take on the Edmonton Oilers (40-21-3) Saturday at Rogers Place. Puck drop is set for 10 p.m. ET (ESPN+). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Avalanche vs. Oilers odds, and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

The Avs have won 5 straight after a 4-3 overtime winner at the Vancouver Canucks Wednesday. C Nathan MacKinnon had a goal and an assist, and he’s making a push for his 1st Hart Trophy with 10 goals and 20 assists in his last 14 games. Entering Saturday, the Avs are in a 3-way tie with Winnipeg and Dallas at 89 points atop the Central Division.

The Oilers have won 2 in a row by a combined score of 11-2 over the Pittsburgh Penguins and Washington Capitals. The latest rout was a 7-2 finish against Washington Wednesday. Avalanche at Oilers projected goalies

Alexandar Georgiev (34-15-3, 2.85 GAA, .901 SV%, 2 SO) vs. Stuart Skinner (30-13-3, 2.57 GAA, .907 SV%, 2 SO)

Georgiev has been solid in 4 starts this month. He’s 3-1-0 with a 2.49 GAA and .912 SV%. His last start was a 4-3 win in Vancouver, stopping 18 of 21 fired his way. He hasn’t faced Edmonton this season, but he was 2-0-1 with a 2.87 GAA and .918 SV% in 3 starts against them last season.

Skinner has lived up to his name with a 3-0-1 record this month with a 1.46 GAA and .941 SV%. He has allowed just 6 goals in 4 starts after going through a stretch in mid-February where he allowed 4+ goals in 4 of 5 starts. Avalanche at Oilers picks and predictions

Prediction

Oilers 3, Avalanche 2

Moneyline

Oddly enough, this is the 1st meeting between the Western Conference powerhouses this season. The last 4 matchups have gone to overtime. The Oilers got the last victory in Colorado, but the Avs won 6 straight before that.

Both teams are smokin’ hot as the Avs have won 7 of 8, and the Oilers have won 6 of 8. Colorado is just average on the road at 16-14-2, though. The difference maker to me is Skinner. He presents a big enough advantage between the pipes

TAKE OILERS (-130).

Puck line/Against the spread

No interest in the puck line here, but I will take LW ZACH HYMAN OVER 3.5 SHOTS (+115). He has 4+ SOG in 3 of his last 4 games.

Over/Under

This total is too high, but they have the arsenal in order to hit it. These teams will play one another tightly. The last time they met, it was a 2-1 finish. Colorado is 3-6-1 O/U over the last 10, and Edmonton is 3-7.

All signs point to go UNDER 7 (-130).
