Detroit Red Wings at Montreal Canadiens odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Tuesday’s Detroit Red Wings at Montreal Canadiens odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Detroit Red Wings (40-32-9) take on the Montreal Canadiens (30-36-15) Tuesday at Bell Centre. Puck drop is set for 7 p.m. ET (ESPN+). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Red Wings vs. Canadiens odds, and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

The Red Wings have won 2 in a row in overtime after a 5-4 home win over these Canadiens Monday. LW Lucas Raymond ended it with 25 seconds to go in OT with his 31st goal of the season. The Wings enter the last game of the season in a tie with the Washington Capitals at 89 points for the final Wild Card. The Wings need a win and also need the Philadelphia Flyers to beat the Capitals in some fashion. The Red Wings lose all tiebreakers to the 4 teams in contention via fewer regulation wins.

The Habs enter their final game on a 4-game point streak, but they have lost the last 3 games in overtime or via shootout. RW Cole Caufield is ending the season on a binge with 7 goals and 2 assists in his last 10 games.

These teams have played 3 times this season, and all of them required overtime. The Wings took 2, and the Habs took 1 with Detroit winning in this building in December.

Red Wings at Canadiens projected goalies

James Reimer (10-8-2, 3.07 GAA, .905 SV%, 2 SO) vs. Cayden Primeau (8-9-3, 2.95 GAA, .910 SV%, 2 SO)

Reimer is 3-1-0 in his last 4 starts, but he has allowed 3+ goals in each. He allowed 4 goals in a 5-4 OT win against the Toronto Maple Leafs Saturday. He was between the pipes for a 3-2 OT loss to Montreal Nov. 9, stopping 24 of 27 shots fired his way.

Primeau has lost 3 straight starts, allowing 14 goals in the process. In the middle of that, was a perfect 18-save relief outing against the Maple Leafs. He was in goal for the Nov. 9 OT win as he stopped 27 of 29 against Detroit.

Red Wings at Canadiens picks and predictions

Prediction

Red Wings 3, Canadiens 2

Moneyline

The Wings have won 4 of the last 5 meetings, and we’ve had 5+ goals in 6 straight matchups. I’m fully on board with Detroit here but not at -190.

Head to the Parlays section, and take RED WINGS TO WIN AND OVER 4.5 GOALS (-120).

Puck line/Against the spread

These teams have played an insane 6 of 8 games against one another that went to overtime. Both teams’ last 3 overall went to OT as well.

Take a flyer on the 3-WAY RESULT: REGULAR TIME TIE (+375) for a nice return.

Over/Under

I’m staying away from the total here. The Over is 6-4 O/U in Montreal’s last 10 and 5-5 in Detroit’s. The Over is just 4-6 in the last 10 head-to-head, and with so much on the line, it could go either way.

We have already banked on an Over 4.5 in the ML section, so: PASS.

Detroit Red Wings at Pittsburgh Penguins odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Thursday’s Detroit Red Wings at Pittsburgh Penguins odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Detroit Red Wings (38-32-8) take on the Pittsburgh Penguins (36-30-12) Thursday at PPG Paints Arena. Puck drop is set for 7 p.m. ET (ESPN+). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Red Wings vs. Penguins odds, and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

The Red Wings suffered a crushing defeat to the Washington Capitals at home by a 2-1 score Tuesday night. The win catapulted the Caps over the Red Wings and the Penguins for the final Wild Card spot. Detroit and Pittsburgh are tied at 84 points – 1 point behind Washington. The Wings are just 4-4-1-1 in their last 10.

Once left for dead after selling at the trade deadline, the Pens have gone on a run. They’re 6-1-2-1 in the last 10 games and are on a 5-game point streak. They fell 3-2 in overtime to the Toronto Maple Leafs Monday, which snapped a 4-game win streak. In 5 April games, C Sidney Crosby has 5 goals, 2 assists and is shooting a bonkers 62.5% with 8 shots on goal.

Red Wings at Penguins projected goalies

Alex Lyon (20-18-4, 2.96 GAA, .908 SV%, 2 SO) vs. Alex Nedeljkovic (16-6-7, 2.82 GAA, .907 SV%, 1 SO)

Lyon stopped 21 of 23 in the loss to the Caps Tuesday. Lyon has allowed 9 goals in his last 4 starts with a solid .933 SV%. He has 1 start against the Pens this year, and he allowed 5 goals on 37 shots in a 6-3 loss.

Nedeljkovic has been a catalyst for Pittsburgh’s run as he has taken the starter’s net from Tristan Jarry. Nedeljokvic is 4-0-1 in April with a 2.59 GAA and .910 SV%. He was between the pipes in the 3-2 OT loss against Toronto, stopping 20 of 23. Nedeljkovic faced his former team March 17 and stopped 25 of 28 in the 6-3 win over the Wings.

Red Wings at Penguins picks and predictions

Prediction

Penguins 5, Red Wings 3

Moneyline

These teams have met twice this year, and each team won 6-3 on their home ice. You can take the Penguins -145, but I actually prefer the puck line here.

There is a prop bet I like as well. Crosby has fewer than 4 SOG in 5 straight games despite scoring 5 goals on 8 shots. He had 3 SOG in each game against the Red Wings. Take SIDNEY CROSBY UNDER 3.5 SHOTS (-165).

Puck line/Against the spread

The Pens are 6-2-2 in the last 10 against Detroit, and the last 5 Pens wins have been by multiple goals. In fact, 7 of the last 10 meetings ended with multi-goal finishes.

This game could end the other’s season with a regulation loss.

The Pens are 21-13-4 at home, and I’ll take the PENGUINS -1.5 (+170).

Over/Under

This total would be 6-0-1 in the last 7 meetings. The Wings are 4-6 O/U in their last 10, and the Pens are 5-5. There is a lot of push potential here, but this is still a cashable OVER 6 (-120).

Washington Capitals at Detroit Red Wings odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Tuesday’s Washington Capitals at Detroit Red Wings odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Washington Capitals (36-30-11) visit the Detroit Red Wings (38-31-8) Tuesday at Little Caesars Arena. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET (ESPN). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Capitals vs. Red Wings odds, and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

Season series: Tied 1-1

The Capitals lost 3-2 in overtime on Sunday to the Ottawa Senators as the Under (6) cashed, and Washington is 0-4-2 in the past 6 outings. As a result, the Caps have slipped 1 point behind the Red Wings and the Pittsburgh Capitals for the final Wild Card spot in the Eastern Conference, and 2 points back of the New York Islanders for the 1st Wild Card spot.

The Red Wings have picked up the pace, posting wins in 2 of the past 3 games, including a surprising 4-2 win in Tampa Bay against the Lightning on April 1. The Under has cashed in 4 of the past 5 outings.

The last time these teams met in Washington on March 26, the Caps won 4-3 in overtime as the Over (6) cashed. The total has gone high in both meetings, with 18 total goals in the 2 outings.

Capitals at Red Wings projected goalies

Darcy Kuemper (13-14-3, 3.31 GAA, .890 SV%, 1 SO) vs. Alex Lyon (20-17-4, 2.98 GAA, .908 SV%, 2 SO)

Kuemper was bombarded with 44 shots in Raleigh against the Carolina Hurricanes last time out on Friday, allowing 3 goals in a 4-2 loss. He has lost his past 3 starts, last winning Feb. 26 at home against the Ottawa Senators. He has fallen into a backup role behind Charlie Lindgren.

Lyon is confirmed to start. He allowed just a single goal on 38 shots in a 3-1 win against the Buffalo Sabres on Sunday, and he is a healthy 2-1-0 with a 2.37 GAA and .938 SV% in 3 April starts.

Lyon allowed 4 goals on 30 shots in the 4-3 OTL against the Capitals in D.C. on March 26 in his most recent start against Washington, but he allowed 3 goals on 21 shots in an 8-3 win on Feb. 27 in the Motor City.

Capitals at Red Wings picks and predictions

Prediction

Red Wings 5, Capitals 3

Moneyline

The RED WINGS (-155) are a solid play as moderate favorites, as the home team has won 4 of the past 5 meetings in this series, with Detroit holding a slight 3-2 edge in the 5-game span.

The Red Wings are playing slightly better hockey lately, too, as the Capitals (+130) have really struggled recently, and are now on the outside looking in for a playoff spot.

Puck line/Against the spread

The RED WINGS -1.5 (+155) are worth a roll of the dice on the puck line for the chance to potentially win 1 1/2 times your initial wager.

Detroit has won by 2 or more goals in each of its past 3 wins in the series, so if you like the Red Wings to pick up the victory, you should like them to cover the puck line.

Over/Under

OVER 6 (-110) is a decent bet in this important Eastern Conference battle between playoff hopefuls.

The Over has cashed in both meetings this season, and 3 of the past 4 in the series.

The Over is just 2-3-1 in the past 6 games for the Capitals, but one of those games was a home meeting against the Red Wings on March 26. The same holds true for the Caps, as the Under is 5-2 in the past 7 games, but one of the games which went high was against the Winged Wheel.

New York Rangers at Detroit Red Wings odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing New York Rangers at Detroit Red Wings odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The New York Rangers (51-21-4) play their 2nd-to-last regular-season road game Friday night against the Detroit Red Wings (37-30-8). Puck drop at Little Caesars Arena is scheduled for 7:09 p.m. ET (ESPN+).  Below, we analyze FanDuel Sportsbook’s lines around the Rangers vs. Red Wings odds, and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

This is the 3rd matchup between these teams this season, with the 1st 2 coming at Madison Square Garden. The Rangers cashed as a -144 favorite winning 5-3 on Nov. 7, and followed it up on Nov. 29 with a 3-2 victory as a -210 favorite.

New York enters Friday with the most points in the NHL (106), although both Carolina (+320) and Florida (+320) have shorter odds to win the Eastern Conference than New York (+450). LW Artemi Panarin leads the team in points (110), good for 4th-most in the NHL.

The Red Wings got a much-needed win on April 1 over Tampa Bay, cashing as a +150 underdog as they snapped a 4-game losing streak. Entering Friday, Detroit possesses a 45.3% chance to make the postseason according to Moneypuck. Captain C Dylan Larkin, who recorded 2 assists over the Bolts believes his team is “building their game” down the stretch.

Rangers at Red Wings projected goalies

Igor Shesterkin (33-16-2, 2.65 GAA, .911 SV%, 3 SO) vs. Alex Lyon (19-16-4, 3.00 GAA, .907 SV%, 2 SO)

Shesterkin helped the Rangers earn a 4-3 victory over New Jersey  Wednesday, stopping 17 of 20 shots he faced. The 28-year-old took the loss against Pittsburgh on Monday, allowing 3 goals in a 5-3 loss that saw him get into a bit of a tussle with Penguins captain Sidney Crosby.

Lyon’s victory over Tampa was his 1st in 11 starts, a stretch that saw him go 0-8-2 since late February. This year’s Masterton Trophy nominee (awarded for  perseverance and sportsmanship) has played in 39 games this year, double his career total.

Rangers at Red Wings picks and predictions

Prediction

Rangers 3, Red Wings 2

Moneyline

BET RANGERS (-146).

You are what your record says you are which makes the Blue Shirts the best team in the NHL. This should be a good matchup between a couple of Original 6 teams, not to mention that RW Patrick Kane should be itching for some revenge after last year’s disappointing tenure with New York. Detroit is bottom 5 in the league in shots on goal, including rebound shots and higher danger chances, so I do not expect them to be able to keep up with the Rangers.

Puck line/Against the spread

PASS.

Not interested in fading the Rangers.

Over/Under

BET UNDER 6.5 (-134).

Only the Carolina Hurricanes have allowed fewer power-play goals (34) than New York (35) so if Detroit gets the man advantage, D Jacob Trouba and the Rangers PK unit should be able to protect Shesterkin. Plus, despite 11 giveaways vs. New Jersey, the Rangers have allowed the 2nd-least number of giveaways this season in the Eastern Conference (420), so that is another avenue the Red Wings may not have to score.

Detroit Red Wings at Tampa Bay Lightning odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Monday’s Detroit Red Wings at Tampa Bay Lightning odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Detroit Red Wings (36-30-8) wrap up a 3-game road trip Monday against the Tampa Bay Lightning (41-25-7) at Amalie Arena. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET (ESPN+). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Red Wings vs. Lightning odds, and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

Season series: Red Wings lead 2-0

The Red Wings were tripped up 3-2 in a shootout Saturday in Sunrise, and it is 0-2-2 in the past 4 games while scoring a total of 5 goals. Detroit has been shut out in 2 of the past 4 games, too, while the Under is 3-1 in the span.

The Lightning posted a 4-1 win against the New York Islanders Saturday, and Tampa Bay has won the past 3 outings, outscoring the opposition 10-4 as the Under has cashed in each of the victories. The Lightning have posted points in 9 straight outings, going 8-0-1.

However, the Red Wings have won both previous meetings, each in Detroit, and both as slight underdogs, while outscoring the Lightning 8-5. The Wings have won 2 of the past 3 visits to Tampa, too, while the Under is 3-1 in the past 4 meetings at Amalie Arena.

Red Wings at Lightning projected goalies

Alex Lyon (18-16-4, 3.03 GAA, .905 SV%, 2 SO) vs. Andrei Vasilevskiy (28-16-2, 2.85 GAA, .900 SV%, 2 SO)

Lyon was decent last time out in Florida, allowing just 2 goals on 38 shots. After struggling earlier in the month, allowing 4 or more goals in 5 of his 1st 6 starts, he has allowed just 7 goals on 100 shots in his past 3 outings. Lyon is 0-7-2 with a 4.03 GAA and .884 SV% in 9 starts in March.

Vasilevskiy has been on fire in the past month, allowing just a single goal each in 3 of his past 4 outings. He is 8-1-1 with a 2.39 GAA and .915 SV% with 1 SO in 10 starts in March. Vasilevskiy was still recovering from back surgery until late November, and he missed the 1st game in Detroit Oct. 14, while he was rested in the 2nd meeting in late January.

Red Wings at Lightning picks and predictions

Prediction

Lightning 4, Red Wings 2

Moneyline

The Lightning (-190) are just a little too pricey on the moneyline, costing you almost 2 times your potential return.

Yes, the Red Wings (+155) have won both meetings this season, and 2 of the past 3 trips to the Suncoast, but Detroit has been horrific in March, and Vasilevskiy and the Lightning have played very, very well.

PASS, and look to the puck line instead.

Puck line/Against the spread

The LIGHTNING -1.5 (+130) is a strong play on the puck line. While Tampa Bay has lost both meetings this season, it will have a red-hot Vasilevskiy in the crease for the 1st time against the Red Wings +1.5 (-155) this season.

In the final 2 meetings last season, when Tampa Bay was making a postseason push, and Detroit was well out of it, the Lightning posted a pair of shutouts against the Red Wings, outscoring Detroit 8-0. We might not get a shutout, but Tampa is a strong play on the puck line at plus-money.

Over/Under

UNDER 6.5 (-110) is worth a look, mainly because Vasilevskiy has been red hot in March, while the Red Wings have really struggled lately on offense.

As it stands, the Under is 3-1 in the past 4 meetings, and 3-1 in the past 4 battles at Amalie Arena, too. The total has gone low in 3 of the past 4 skates for the Red Wings while cashing in 3 straight for the Lightning.

Detroit Red Wings at Florida Panthers odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s Detroit Red Wings at Florida Panthers odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Detroit Red Wings (36-30-7) make the 4th stop on a 5-game road trip Saturday afternoon against the Florida Panthers (46-22-5) at Amerant Bank Arena. Puck drop is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. ET (NHL Network). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Red Wings vs. Panthers odds, and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

Season series: Panthers lead 2-1

The Red Wings were blanked 4-0 in Carolina Thursday, and Detroit has been shut out in 2 of the past 3 outings. Detroit is just 3-10-1 in the past 14 games, picking up just 7 out of a possible 28 points.

Detroit finds itself 2 points back of the Washington Capitals for the final Wild Card spot in the Eastern Conference with 9 games to play, with the Caps having a game in hand.

The road team has won all 3 meetings this season and each of the past 5 in the series. The Under is 3-0 this season and 5-1 in the past 6 meetings.

Red Wings at Panthers projected goalies

Alex Lyon (18-16-3, 3.07 GAA, .904 SV%, 2 SO) vs. Sergei Bobrovsky (32-16-3, 2.41 GAA, .914 SV%, 4 SO)

Lyon is confirmed to start as he tries to snap out of his month-long funk. He allowed 4 goals on 30 shots last time out in a crucial 4-3 OT loss at Washington Tuesday. He is just 0-7-1 with a 4.38 GAA and .874 SV% in 8 starts in March, including a 33-save effort in a 4-0 loss against Florida March 2.

Bobrovsky conceded 4 goals on just 21 shots in a 4-3 loss against the visiting Boston Bruins Tuesday. He is 3-5-1 with a 2.68 GAA and .904 SV% with 1 SO in 9 starts in March. He turned aside all 21 shots he faced in a 4-0 win in Detroit in the most recent meeting March 2.

Red Wings at Panthers picks and predictions

Prediction

Panthers 5, Red Wings 2

Moneyline

The Panthers (-250) will cost you 2½ times your potential return, and that’s way too much risk for not nearly enough reward. Even as part of a multi-team parlay, there is just too much risk, and including Florida sucks all of the value out of your ticket.

PASS, and look to the puck line instead.

Puck line/Against the spread

The PANTHERS -1.5 (+105) are a better play at plus-money on the puck line. Even though the road team has won 5 straight meetings in the series dating back to Jan. 6, 2023, Florida is just a better hockey team, while the Red Wings +1.5 (-130) have been a disaster.

The Cats are just 1-5-1 in the past 7 games, although most of the setbacks are against teams likely headed to the postseason. The Red Wings have been shut out twice in the past 3 games, and they’ve lost to a lot of teams they should have beaten. While neither side has been hot, at least Florida has been competitive.

Over/Under

OVER 6 (-115) is worth playing lightly. Lyon is winless in March, and he has been very giving, coughing up 4 or more goals in 6 of his 8 starts.

The Red Wings have been shut out twice in the past 3 games, but the Over is still 4-2 in the past 6 contests. That’s because Detroit goaltending has allowed 21 goals in the past 6 games, or 3.5 goals per game (GPG). The Red Wings have allowed 3 or more goals in 13 of the past 15 contests, too.

Florida’s offense has managed 3 GPG in the past 4 outings, splitting the Over/Under in those games. Lean Over, but go with a half-unit at best.

Detroit Red Wings at Carolina Hurricanes odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Thursday’s Detroit Red Wings at Carolina Hurricanes odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Detroit Red Wings (36-29-7) take on the Carolina Hurricanes (45-21-7) Thursday at PNC Arena. Puck drop is set for 7:30 p.m. ET (ESPN+). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Hurricanes at Red Wings odds, and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

The Wings have been grounded of late, going 3-6-1 in their last 10. They dropped Tuesday’s tilt 4-3 in overtime to the Washington Capitals. That loss dropped the Wings 2 points behind the Caps for the final Wild Card spot. C Dylan Larkin is getting reacclimated after missing 3 weeks due to injury. He has 2 goals and an assist in 3 games since returning.

The Canes have slipped up, losing 2 of the last 3, with the latest a 4-1 setback against the Pittsburgh Penguins. Carolina was -190 favorites in that loss. They took 39 shots on goal, but just couldn’t find the back of the net. The Canes are solid in 2nd in the Metropolitan Division just 3 points behind the New York Rangers for the top spot.

Reimer has won 3 straight starts with his latest last Thursday over the New York Islanders. He stopped 33 of 36 shots fired his way in the 6-3 win. He’s 3-1-0 with a 3.18 GAA and .907 SV% this month.

Andersen has been dominant since his return from a 4-month injury. His last start was in the 2-1 victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs Sunday, when he stopped 32 of 33 shots fired upon him. Andersen is 6-0-0 this month and has allowed just 8 goals in 6 games.

Red Wings at Hurricanes picks and predictions

Prediction

Hurricanes 3, Red Wings 2

Moneyline

The Canes are heavy favorites, but they’re far too expensive to consider. It’s even more outlandish when you consider that Detroit needs this game more to stay in contention. Carolina is great at home at 24-9-4, and the Wings are just 15-18-2 on the road.

I like SEBASTIAN AHO OVER 2.5 SHOTS (-160) here. He has 3+ SOG in 3 of 4 and has done so in both games against Detroit this year.

Puck line/Against the spread

I like Detroit’s side here, and I thought it would be a little more expensive. As mentioned, they need this game more as we head to the finish line. The Canes have dropped 2 of 3 and could be a little complacent.

Take RED WINGS +1.5 (-115).

Over/Under

I like the Under here, but I’d be more comfortable if it were 6.5. Both goalies have been solid. The Canes are 4-6 O/U in their last 10 while the Wings are 6-4. The Under cashed in the last 6 meetings between the teams, but the last game ended in a 4-2 final, which would push here.

LEAN UNDER 6 (-120).

New York Islanders at Detroit Red Wings odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Thursday’s New York Islanders at Detroit Red Wings odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The New York Islanders (29-24-15) and Detroit Red Wings (35-28-6) will square off Thursday at Little Caesars Arena. The opening faceoff will be at 7 p.m. ET (ESPN+). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Islanders vs. Red Wings odds, and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

The Islanders are looking to snap a 5-game losing skid (0-4-1). New York last played Tuesday at home, dropping a 4-1 contest against the Carolina Hurricanes. Four of the Isles’ 5 losses in the streak have been by multiple goals.

The Red Wings are on home ice for a 2nd straight game. They downed the Columbus Blue Jackets 4-3 in overtime Tuesday. How much the home venue matters is a matter of debate. Detroit is just 2-3-0 over its last 5 at home, and that stretch opened with a 5-3 setback against these Islanders Feb. 29.

New York and Detroit have split 2 games this season, with each club winning on road ice.

Islanders at Red Wings projected goalies

Ilya Sorokin (22-17-11, 3.03 GAA, .909 SV%, 2 SO) vs. James Reimer (8-7-2, 2.98 GAA, .907 SV%, 2 SO)

Sorokin allowed 3 goals on 33 shots in Tuesday’s loss to Carolina. He started both earlier games against the Wings and allowed 7 goals (all even-strength). The 28-year-old netminder logged an .885 SV% across those 2 starts.

Reimer was the winner Tuesday against the Jackets. He stopped 32 of 35 shots and owns a .934 SV% in his last 2 starts after faltering in a few early-March games.

Islanders at Red Wings picks and predictions

Prediction

Red Wings 4, Islanders 3

Moneyline

New York is just 14-15-5 on the road (0-3-0 in last 3). This is a 1-game road voyage for the Islanders, who are 1-3-0 in their last 4 such efforts. Two of those 3 road setbacks came against a subpar Montreal Canadiens club.

The last 4 series meetings at Little Caesars have seen Detroit go 3-1-0. The Red Wings have been underplaying recent expected-goal outputs and are a short-term candidate for some regression. In 5-on-5 play, they have been hurt by recent percentage lag, both in shooting and in save percentage.

Detroit has a top-10 power play (23.2%), and the Isles head into this contest with the NHL’s worst penalty-kill percentage (71.4%).

BACK THE RED WINGS (-115).

Puck line/Against the spread

Avoid the copious amount of juice here: PASS.

Over/Under

The Over cashed in both previous meetings this season. With the Isles having allowed 17 goals over their last 4 games, and their suspect rate of actual goals allowed to expected goals, the OVER 6.5 (+100) is the lean here.

Detroit Red Wings at Colorado Avalanche odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Detroit Red Wings at Colorado Avalanche odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Detroit Red Wings (33-22-6) take on the Colorado Avalanche (38-20-5) Wednesday. Puck drop at Ball Arena is set for 9:30 p.m. ET (TNT). Below, we analyze FanDuel Sportsbook’s lines around the Red Wings vs. Avalanche odds, and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

The Red Wings had their 6-game winning streak snapped with a 5-3 defeat to the New York Islanders at home Thursday. Detroit was shut out in its following game, losing 4-0 vs. the Florida Panthers at Little Caesars Arena this past Saturday.

One of those W’s during the streak was against Colorado Feb. 22 — a 2-1 OT finish with RW Patrick Kane scoring the game-winning goal.

Entering Wednesday, Detroit and the Tampa Bay Lightning each possess 72 points, good for the 2 Eastern Conference Wild Card spots if the season ended today.

The Avalanche have won 3 of their last 4 games, most recently crushing the Chicago Blackhawks 5-0 at home Monday.

Colorado currently sits in 3rd in the Central Division with 81 points; the Dallas Stars top the division with 85 followed by the Winnipeg Jets (83).

C Nathan MacKinnon — who leads the league alongside Bolts RW Nikita Kucherov in points recorded with 105 — enters Wednesday as the favorite to win the Hart Trophy (+185 at FanDuel Sportsbook).

  • Puck line (PL)/Against the spread (ATS): Red Wings +1.5 (-142) | Avalanche -1.5 (+118)
  • Over/Under (O/U): 6.5 (O: -120 | U: -102)

Red Wings at Avalanche projected goalies

Alex Lyon (18-10-2, 2.79 GAA, .911 SV%, 2 SO) vs. Alexandar Georgiev (31-15-3, .291 GAA, .900 SV%, 2 SO)

Recently, when Lyon loses, he’s been leaky: the 31-year-old has allowed at least 4 goals in each of his last 4 losses. He was outstanding in the Feb. 22 meeting, stopping 30 of 31 shot attempts.

Georgiev has played the most minutes in the NHL among goaltenders (2930) and has surrendered the most goals (142). The 28-year-old has defeated Detroit both times he has faced it in his career, although G Justus Annunen got the start in the Feb. 22 matchup.

Red Wings at Avalanche picks and predictions

Prediction

Avalanche 4, Red Wings 3

Moneyline

PASS.

Too much juice on the moneyline for a Colorado (-196) team that lost to Detroit nearly 2 weeks ago.

Puck line/Against the spread

BET RED WINGS +1.5 (-142).

Detroit features a balanced scoring attack. The Red Wings had twelve 10-plus goal scorers at the end of February, the most in the NHL. Their recent losses are nothing to scoff at: Florida is the current favorite to win the President’s Trophy and the Islanders have been playing better.

The Avalanche are a Cup contender once again, and under the guidance of GM Steve Yzerman, the Red Wings could be as well next year. Expect Colorado to win at Ball Arena Wednesday night, as it has the most home victories (24) in the NHL, but Detroit will give it a battle until the end.

Over/Under

BET OVER 6.5 (-120).

Colorado averages the most goals in the NHL per game (3.65), with Detroit sporting the 7th-highest goals per game (3.51). The Red Wings are atop the league when it comes to shooting percentage on all shot attempts (5.38%) with Colorado in 5th (4.64%), so there should be plenty of opportunity for scoring chances.

Florida Panthers at Detroit Red Wings odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s Florida Panthers at Detroit Red Wings odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Florida Panthers (40-16-4) and the Detroit Red Wings (33-21-6) meet Saturday at Little Caesars Arena. Puck drop is scheduled for 3 p.m. ET (ABC/ESPN+). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Panthers vs. Red Wings odds, and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

The Panthers picked up a 4-3 win in a shootout against the Montreal Canadiens Thursday, Florida’s 3rd consecutive win. The Cats have played 5 straight 1-goal games, going 4-1-0. The lone setback was a 1-0 loss at Carolina Feb. 22. The Under is on a 4-1 run in the past 5 games, too.

The Red Wings suffered a 5-3 loss against the visiting New York Islanders  Thursday, halting a 6-game winning streak. Despite the loss, Detroit is still averaging 4.4 goals per game (GPG) in the past 7 games, while allowing 2.1 GPG in the same span. The Over has cashed in 4 of the past 6 contests.

This is the 3rd meeting out of 4 total games this season. The Panthers won 2-0 at LCA as a slight favorite (-123) Nov. 2 as the Under (6.5) cashed, while the Red Wings returned the favor in Sunrise with a 3-2 OT win Jan. 17, also cashing the Under (6.5).

Panthers at Red Wings projected goalies

Sergei Bobrovsky (29-11-2, 2.35 GAA, .916 SV%, 3 SO) vs. Alex Lyon (18-9-2, 2.74 GAA, .912 SV%, 2 SO)

Bobrovsky allowed just 2 goals on 30 shots in a 3-2 win at home against the Buffalo Sabres Tuesday. Bob has been standing on his head lately, going 6-1-0 with a 1.57 GAA and .946 SV% with 1 SO in 7 February starts. He allowed a total of just 11 goals on 203 shots, and he has allowed 2 or fewer goals in each of his past 9 starting assignments dating back to Jan. 24 before the All-Star break.

Lyon is confirmed to start against his former employer. He served as the backstop to Bobrovsky last season, going 9-4-0 with a 2.89 GAA and .914 SV% and 1 SO in 14 starts and 15 appearances for Florida in 2022-23.

Lyon coughed up 4 goals on 26 shots in the 5-3 loss to the Isles Thursday. He is went 5-3-0 in 7 February starts and 1 relief appearance, but he posted subpar marks with a 3.32 GAA and .883 SV%.

Panthers at Red Wings picks and predictions

Prediction

Panthers 4, Red Wings 2

Moneyline

The PANTHERS (-165) are a solid play right at the tipping point of a play on the ML.

The Panthers have won 9 of the past 10 meetings in this series, including each of the past 5 visits to the Motor City by a combined score of 19-7. While the Red Wings (+125) have been much more competitive this season, keep rolling with Florida until Detroit starts to turn the tables in this series and tick off wins on the regular.

Puck line/Against the spread

The PANTHERS -1.5 (+145) are worth a roll of the dice on the road. As mentioned, Florida has won 9 of the past 10 meetings, while going 6-2 on the puck line as a favorite across the previous 8 battles dating back to March 5, 2022.

The Red Wings +1.5 (-175) failed to cover on the puck line against the Islanders last time out as an underdog, and they’re just 2-3 on the puck line in the past 5 as a ‘dog.

Over/Under

The UNDER 6.5 (-115) is the lean, but be careful and go with a half-unit play at most.

We’ve seen the Under cash in each of the previous 2 meetings, while going 4-1 in the past 5 in the series. However, Detroit has hit the Over in 3 of the past 4 outings, including a perfect 3-0 in the past 3 on home ice.

The Panthers hit the Over against the Habs Thursday, but the Under is on a 4-1 run in the past 5 outings, while going a solid 9-3-1 across the previous 13 contests.
