Patriots Week 3 inactives: Marco Wilson OUT, Mike Onwenu IN

Here’s the full list of inactives for the Patriots-Jets Thursday night game

Cornerback Marco Wilson has officially been ruled out for the New England Patriots’ Thursday night matchup with the New York Jets. However, injured offensive tackle Mike Onwenu has been cleared to play.

The Patriots head on the road for the second time this season for an AFC East divisional clash with the Jets. Onwenu popping up on the injury report was a major concern for the team with the offensive line currently on life support.

The unit allowed three sacks and eight quarterback hits on Jacoby Brissett last week against the Seattle Seahawks. They’ll face an even stiffer test against a talented Jets defense with a powerful front.

On the defensive side of the ball, the Patriots made Wilson a healthy scratch. The veteran defensive back has drawn a crucial pass interference penalty in back-to-back games, and the team could be looking at other options.

Here is the full list of inactives for both teams:

Vederian Lowe being out could mean top reps for rookie Caedan Wallace at left tackle for the Patriots. That position has been a trouble spot for the team in the first two games, and the Jets will surely test the rookie when he’s on the field.

Darius Slay has high praise, and a warning, for Saints star Alvin Kamara

Eagles cornerback Darius Slay had high praise for Alvin Kamara, but he warned the Saints’ star not to hurdle him again: ‘Don’t jump over me like that’

The New Orleans Saints have had many breakout players this season, as well as a few who returned to form, none more so than running back Alvin Kamara, who has reverted to his peak form in the new Klint Kubiak offensive scheme.

With the Saints taking on the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 3, veteran cornerback Darius Slay had some high praise for Kamara during his media availability on Thursday, discussing what he thinks of him, as well as one moment he won’t forget from their history.

“He’s nice with it man,” Slay said. “One of the best backs with the best balance I’ve seen in a long time man, he really breaks a lot of tackles. What’s crazy is that I told him don’t ever jump over me again, he jumped over me one time when I was in Detroit his rookie year, he really like, cleared me. So uh, Kamara I know you watching this probably, don’t jump over me like that, I’m (going to) press charges, I swear to god I’m (going to) press charges.”

It’s nice to hear Kamara get his flowers from media and fans, but hearing it from a high-level competitor in Slay, who has been in the league for 11 going on 12 seasons now, is always great. Knowing that his peers see him in the same light many of us do and knowing how difficult it is to truly tackle him, coming from one of the better corners in the league, is pretty interesting to hear.

Taysom Hill officially limited on Week 3 Saints injury report vs. Eagles

The New Orleans Saints have shared their Thursday injury report, adding Will Harris (calf) and A.T. Perry (illness) to the mix. Taysom Hill was officially limited at practice:

The New Orleans Saints have sent out their second injury report leading up to Week 3, which has some positives and some negatives worth noting on it. Multiple players were added to the injury report, with starting safety Will Harris (calf) and wide receiver A.T. Perry (illness) being grouped into the injured list of players.

Khalen Saunders (calf) and Landon Young (foot) both did not practice today as well, as they were not practicing Wednesday either. Cedrick Wilson Jr. (abdomen), Tyrann Mathieu (heel), Taliese Fuaga (back), and Marshon Lattimore (hamstring) all remained limited Thursday, which was mostly expected, as to prevent any aggravation of their current injuries.

For the good news, Jaylan Ford (hamstring) and Rashid Shaheed (hip) both practiced fully as they did Wednesday, which is a good sign for their health heading into Week 3 against the Philadelphia Eagles. Additionally for the linebacker department, D’Marco Jackson (calf) moved from did not practice to limited for Thursday, which is a good sign as he had missed a decent chunk of time with that injury. Finally, Taysom Hill (chest) also improved from did not practice to limited, which is exactly what you want to see, and what Dennis Allen had hoped for heading into Thursday.

Also worth noting on the other side, both A.J. Brown (hamstring) and Johnny Wilson (hamstring) did not practice for the second day in a row. Additionally, former Saints safety Chauncey “C.J.” Gardner-Johnson was added with a foot injury, and did not practice as well.

Here is the full injury report for Thursday’s practice:

Three Lions upgrade their practice status, three more remain out

Three Lions upgrade their practice status, three more remain out on Thursday’s Detroit injury report

Thursday’s practice participation report from the Detroit Lions shows three players who upgraded their statuses from Wednesday’s session. Three more remain out with one more practice to go before game injury status declarations are made ahead of Sunday’s trip to Arizona to play the Cardinals.

The three who upgraded:

LB Alex Anzalone – Anzalone practiced on a limited basis as part of the NFL’s concussion protocol. He missed Wednesday’s session.

LG Graham Glasgow – Glasgow also went from out to limited. He’s dealing with a knee issue.

S Kerby Joseph – Joseph was a full participant on Thursday after being limited with a back issue on Wednesday.

Wide receiver Isaiah Williams remained limited with an abdomen injury that kept him out of the Week 2 game against Tampa Bay.

Three Lions are still out, as they were on Wednesday:

CB Terrion Arnold (illness)

S Ifeatu Melifonwu (ankle)

CB Ennis Rakestraw (hamstring)

Wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown and EDGE Marcus Davenport have been full participants in both sessions, a great sign they’ll be in action on Sunday.

Taysom Hill (chest) returns to practice on Thursday after last week’s injury

Taysom Hill returned to practice Thursday. His Week 2 chest injury held him out of practice on Wednesday, but he’s trending up before Week 3:

The New Orleans Saints seem to have gotten multiple of their players back Thursday, including Taysom Hill, who returned to practice after a Week 2 chest injury and a DNP at Wednesday’s practice. This is good news as Dennis Allen had said yesterday his hope was to get Hill on the practice field in at least a limited capacity.

One day after Marshon Lattimore returned to practice, the Saints got back Hill, who is a critical component in their offense. He was used primarily in a blocking role last week but we all know what his talents truly are.

We will get further information when the official injury report releases later Thursday afternoon as to whether or not this was a limited practice for Hill or a full practice. The assumption would be the prior, but any status update that results in positive momentum towards him playing Sunday against the Philadelphia Eagles is a great sign.

Patriots Week 3 injury report: Key players ruled out vs. Jets

4 Patriots players ruled out for Thursday’s Patriots-Jets game

The New England Patriots have a lengthy injury report for Thursday’s contest against the New York Jets. Linebacker Ja’Whaun Bentley, tackle Vederian Lowe and linebacker Oshane Xmines are all out for the game.

Along with the players ruled out, the Patriots also listed four players as questionable, including center David Andrews, offensive tackle Mike Onwenu, safety Jabrill Peppers and defensive end Deatrich Wise Jr.

The injuries to the offensive line are the biggest storyline in New England after the unit struggled in the first two games of the season. One has to wonder how the unit would function if Andrews and/or Onwenu missed the game.

The linebacker unit also takes a big hit with Bentley out for the season with a torn pec. It leaves the Patriots without a team captain and one of the most dynamic playmakers on defense.

Here is the full injury report for the Patriots on Wednesday:

https://twitter.com/Patriots/status/1836468862159651123

The Patriots dealt with adversity before the season even started with Christian Barmore being ruled out indefinitely with blood clots. They’ve become accustomed to dealing with tough situations.

We’ll see if they can overcome another one on Thursday night.

Initial Week 3 Saints injury report has 4 DNPs, Marshon Lattimore limited

The initial New Orleans Saints Week 3 injury report has 4 DNP’s, with Marshon Lattimore returning to limited reps. The Eagles held a walkthrough:

The New Orleans Saints will be taking on the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 3, and the initial injury report for the Saints looks at least marginally better than last week’s did at this point in time.

New Orleans did pick up a couple of injuries during their matchup with the Dallas Cowboys, notably Taysom Hill (chest) and Cedrick Wilson Jr. (abdomen). Hill did not practice on Wednesday due to the chest injury, however, Dennis Allen did say he would like to see him on the field at least in a limited fashion for Thursday’s practice. Wilson was limited in practice, however, he did return for a few snaps after his initial injury which bodes well for the severity and his playing this week potentially.

The remaining players on the report were pretty much those who were anticipated, with D’Marco Jackson (calf), Khalen Saunders (calf), and Landon Young (calf) the remaining DNPs. Tyrann Mathieu (heel) and Taliese Fuaga (back) also are limited despite playing in Week 2, presumably in a precautionary measure more than anything to prevent aggravation of their injuries.

On the other side, the Eagles had a walkthrough so their practice was an estimation, which left A.J. Brown as a DNP as well as Johnny Wilson. Brown will be an intriguing one to watch once they ramp up regular practices in the coming days.

Here is the initial Saints side of the injury report on Wednesday Sept. 18:

Here is the Eagles side of the injury report as well, which is an estimation due to Wednesday being a walkthrough for them:

NFL assigns Scott Novak to referee Week 3’s Saints-Eagles game

Week 3’s Saints-Eagles matchup has their referee assignment. New Orleans is 3-2 with Scott Novak’s crew on the field:

The New Orleans Saints’ Week 3 matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles has been assigned its head referee, which will be Scott Novak per Football Zebras. The Saints did see Novak last season as well, when they went up against the Carolina Panthers in Week 2, where he called only three penalties on them for 32 total yards.

Throughout the past few seasons the Saints have seen Novak a couple times, and they are now 3-2 all-time with him as the referee. His crew is tied for the 7th-fewest penalty flags thrown this season (28 flags, 4 of which were dismissed) with 17 on the home teams and only 7 on visiting teams. Additionally, his crews rank 4th-lowest in total penalty yards per game (77) this season as well. They’ve been vigilant for false starts which have accounted for 10 of those infractions.

Philadelphia has been fouled 16 times across two games, losing 53 yards to penalty in Week 1 and 57 yards in Week 2. Strangely, their biggest issue has been ineligible men downfield. The Eagles have been penalized three times for that while the rest of the NFL has combined for six fouls.

Penalties were not much of a concern for the Saints in Week 2 under Shawn Smith, as they only received five penalties for 40 yards. However, their Week 1 counts were significantly worse, as they took 10 penalties for 95 yards. Hopefully that improvement continues and Novak will lean more towards the more recent total and let the teams play, as he has been doing so far this season.

Greg Olsen, Joe Davis on the call for Saints vs. Eagles in Week 3

Greg Olsen and Joe Davis are on the call, with Pam Oliver reporting from the sidelines on the FOX Sports broadcast of Saints vs. Eagles in Week 3:

We already know that FOX Sports is casting a wide net for Week 3’s matchup between the New Orleans Saints and Philadelphia Eagles — TV broadcast coverage extends all throughout the Southeast and up both coasts, and there will be a lot of eyes on this game. But who will we be listening to on the call?

Depending on who you ask, the FOX Sports A Team. Greg Olsen and Joe Davis will be in the broadcast booth with Pam Oliver reporting from the sidelines at the Caesars Superdome on Sunday. Tom Brady and Kevin Burkhardt’s crew is the network’s A Team, on paper, but Brady’s lackluster performance on the mic has led to a lot of viewers asking for Olsen. He and Davis have made for a popular B Team at FOX.

The three-time Pro Bowl tight end was a big-time rival of the Saints’ for years with the Carolina Panthers, and he’s transitioned well to a role in the media. Olsen has gained a lot of fans for his ability to play up dramatic moments in games as naturally as he breaks down why something is so impressive from a schematic point of view. So Saints fans could be in for a treat with Olsen sharing his commentary this Sunday.

Week 3 NFL broadcast maps: Will your station carry Saints vs. Eagles?

Will your station carry Saints vs. Eagles? The Week 3 NFL broadcast maps from 506 Sports have a lot of eyes on New Orleans this Sunday:

The New Orleans Saints’ Week 1 matchup did not have much attention outside their home market, but after their strong showing and a high-profile win over the Dallas Cowboys in Week 2 they’ve become impossible to ignore. The Saints are 2-0 heading into a matchup with the Philadelphia Eagles, a popular preseason Super Bowl pick looking vulnerable after their last-second loss to the Atlanta Falcons in prime time.

But the number of eyes on this game will be pretty significant for the time slot, as kickoff still resides in FOX’s early window. Coverage extends up into about half of New England, throughout most of Pennsylvania down through Florida, and all the way up to Seattle and Los Angeles with the exception of Colorado and New Mexico due to the Denver Broncos matchup. This covers roughly half the continental United States, while also being shown in Hawaii.

As labeled in red on this map from 506 Sports, the coverage is widespread, and the only major competitor for views in terms of states covered is the Tennessee Titans against the Green Bay Packers, which takes up much of the Midwest and into Montana. See if you’ll catch the broadcast from your local FOX affiliate station:

Remember, you can also catch the game by streaming it on NFL+ or FuboTV (try it free). Additionally, fans in Louisiana can tune in to WWL 870 AM or 105.3 FM with Deuce McAllister and Mike Hoss for radio coverage. Those watching the FOX broadcast will be slated to have Joe Davis and Greg Olsen on the coverage.
