Nebraska football lands USC transfer Ceyair Wright

Ceyair Wright starts over at Nebraska.

Former USC cornerback Ceyair Wright has signed with the Nebraska Cornhuskers. It’s a Big Ten college football transfer, something we wouldn’t have been able to say at this time one year ago.

Wright, who entered the transfer portal on April 25 after three seasons at USC, announced his commitment to Nebraska on Friday afternoon following an official visit to Lincoln earlier in the week. He has two seasons of eligibility remaining.

In 2021, Wright was rated as the No. 78 overall prospect in the country and No. 7 corner, from 247 Sports. Nebraska was among his finalists at the time, though he committed to USC before visiting Lincoln.

The 6-foot, 180-pound Wright played in 23 career games during his time with the Trojans. The 2022 season was his most productive, as he played in all 14 games with 11 starts. He recorded 28 tackles, one interception and two pass breakups that season.

The former top-100 prospect and four-star recruit in the 2021 class has previously been an actor, appearing in several movies, TV shows and commercials. He played a fictional son of LeBron James in “Space Jam 2in 2021. He also appeared on the ABC comedy “Grown-ish.”

During his senior year at Loyola High School, he was the focus of a “Dual Threat” documentary produced by Overtime.

Avoid eagles? That’s what a Nebraska municipal golf course is asking after a group of eaglets was hatched

Those in the nest have started to spread their wings and that’s forced a little re-routing for players.

Typically, if there were eagles to be had on the back nine at Holmes Park Golf Course in Lincoln, Nebraska, they came on the 10th, a 519-yard par 5 that plays as the 14th handicap hole.

This summer, however, there are also eagles to be found on holes No. 13 and 14, which has forced organizers to scramble for solutions.

The course, designed by Floyd Farley, houses a number of bald eagles and recently a group of hatched eaglets have thrown a wrench into local rounds.

Golfweek’s Best: Top public and private courses in Nebraska

According to a story from Mark Fischer of Lincoln’s KLKN-TV, those in the nest have started to spread their wings and that’s forced a little re-routing for players.

A new area to the right of hole 13 near the green will be off limits to golfers, according to Lincoln City Golf.

There is also a new route to take when getting to hole 14.

After finishing the 13th hole, golfers will go to the left of the green and follow the signs to the 14th tee box.

Bald eagles are a federally protected bird, and Fish and Wildlife asks golfers to use caution when playing on the course.

Fischer, who is a golfer himself, told Golfweek that he’s seen eagles hovering while playing the course.

“I was putting for birdie on one hole and I looked up and there were two of them in the trees,” Fischer said, noting that he missed his birdie putt but tapped in for par.

His five finalists have outlasted a pack of offers that also include Duke, Georgia Tech, Illinois, Kansas, Michigan State, Purdue, USC and Vanderbilt.

247Sports currently ranks Clayton as the No. 974 player in the class of 2025, No. 70 edge rusher and No. 12 recruit from the state of Florida. The service has yet to release a crystal ball prediction for his choice, though On3’s prediction machine currently gives each of those five contenders a near-equal chance to earn a commitment.

Clayton’s commitment date is the second announced on June 20, joining three-star DL Drayden Pavey. Wisconsin is looking to land both players and continue the program’s red-hot month of June on the class of 2025 recruiting trail.

The Badgers class of 2025 currently has 20 commitments — nine since the start of June — and is ranked No. 12 in the nation by 247Sports.

The class is already a success after Luke Fickell’s program finished the 2024 cycle ranked in the top 25. Commitments from Clayton and Pavey would continue what has been a terrific month of converting official visits into commitments.
