Could another Alabama transfer LB be hinting at a transfer to Texas?

King Mwikuta is a hot name in the transfer portal.

Texas may be in the market for another transfer on the defensive side of the ball after Alabama linebacker King Mwikuta entered his name into the transfer portal.

Mwikuta is a former four-star prospect out of West Point, Georgia, that has yet to reach his ceiling as a college player. He chose Alabama over Georgia, Florida and Auburn — among others.

While at Alabama, Mwikuta saw a majority of his snaps on special teams, which could work in favor for the Longhorns; he is familiar with new special teams coordinator Jeff Banks.

Rivals’ Mike Farrell pinpointed three teams as potential landing spots for Mwikuta, with Texas having the slight advantage over Kentucky and Auburn. The Longhorns have taken in some linebackers that greatly improved their depth, but they are still inexperienced at the position, which is dominated by freshmen and sophomores who have yet to receive major playing time all over the depth chart.

One Texas fan also noticed something very interesting on Mwikuta’s Instagram. The only post remaining on his account is a picture of him next to Steve Sarkisian.

Farrell believes his connection with former Alabama staffers will draw him to Austin, but noted that Auburn was recruiting Mwikuta extremely hard in high school even after his commitment to Alabama.

Jaden Shackelford narrows down transfer destinations to 3 programs

Jaden Shackelford narrows it down to three.

Alabama guard Jaden Shackelford will soon be entering his junior season. He has been a consistent playmaker and a fan favorite for the Crimson Tide faithful.

Recently, Shackelford entered his name in the draft, but has since decided to return to college basketball. Along with withdrawing his name from the draft, he entered his name into the transfer portal.

In his two seasons at Alabama, Shackelford averaged over 14 points per game, averaged 41% from the field and around four rebounds per game.

Stadium basketball analyst Jeff Goodman reported earlier today that Shackelford has narrowed down his possible transfer destinations to three schools: Ohio State, Oklahoma and Texas Tech. However, he is also open to returning to Alabama.

Roll Tide Wire will continue to track Shackelford through his journey in the NCAA Transfer Portal.

Texas Basketball: Longhorns in contention for top transfer Marcus Carr

He was named First Team All-Big Ten by the Associated Press last season.

There are three things that are certain in life: Death, taxes, and apparently Chris Beard recruiting the best transfer players in the nation to come to Texas.

After parting ways with former head coach Shaka Smart, the Longhorns were only able to sign one high school player, which meant Beard would need to attract players from the transfer portal if he wanted to win right away.

Not only did Beard get some big-time transfers, he basically cleaned house and signed arguably the best group of transfer players in college basketball. Beard brought in six players and now could possibly add a seventh in Minnesota transfer Marcus Carr.

The Longhorns group of transfers is already an elite bunch, but adding Carr would take this team to the next level. In 2020, the 6-foot-2 guard was a team captain for Minnesota and named First Team All-Big Ten by the Associated Press.

Carr broke the school’s single-season assist record as a sophomore in 2019-20, and leaves Minnesota as the program’s career leader in assists per game. Last season, he averaged 19.4 points and 4.9 assists per game.

Former Texas WR Jake Smith releases statement, confirms he will transfer

It sounds like Jake Smith has played his last game in burnt orange.

The Longhorns roster will likely be missing their third most productive receiver from the 2020 season, as sophomore and former Gatorade National Player of the Year Jake Smith entered the NCAA transfer portal.

The slot receiver posted his farewell to Texas via Twitter on Friday.

A few Texas players quoted the tweet and wished Smith luck at his next stop, therefore it’s evident his Longhorn career is done.

Smith entered the transfer portal a week ago, which can likely be attributed to the many injuries Smith faced during his time at Texas.

There were very high expectations for Smith, who came out of Arizona as a four-star prospect, but he was unfortunately unable to stay healthy. Smith missed multiple games in both years due to injuries and broke his foot on the very first day of spring football this season. An injury that likely forced him to fall behind players like Jordan Whittington, Troy Omiere and Michigan transfer Xavier Worthy on the depth chart.

There are no crystal ball predictions for Smith, but there is speculation he is heading West. During his high school recruitment, Smith officially visited two schools, one of which was Texas. The other school, which seems to serve as a pipeline for Texas transfers and staff is USC. In recent years, former defensive coordinator Todd Orlando took the job there, former Director of Recruiting Bryan Carrington, wide receiver Bru McCoy (what a whirlwind that was), running back Keontay Ingram, tight end Malcom Epps, and defensive back Xavion Alford have all headed to Southern California.

He also unofficially visited Ohio State and Alabama during his high school recruitment. It is unclear where Smith will go, or when he will announce where he goes, but if he can stay healthy at the next stop they are getting a great weapon.

Texas Basketball: Horns land UMass transfer Tre Mitchell

Breaking down Texas basketball’s newest transfer.

Texas head coach Chris Beard has been attacking the NCAA transfer portal and finding gold left and right.

He and the basketball team struck gold again today after landing 6-foot-9, 240-pound big man Tre Mitchell out of UMass.

Mitchell announced via his twitter Tuesday that he was transferring to Texas.

Mitchell had a great season in 2020, as he was named to the Atlantic 10 All-Conference First Team after averaging 18.8 points, 7 rebounds, and 2 assist per game. He shot an efficient 52% from the field while also showing the ability to shoot the three as he he shot 37.5% from deep.

Texas is getting a very elite scorer as on Dec. 16 at La Salle Mitchell, he had a career-high 37 points. He also is quite the scholar as Mitchell was named to the Atlantic 10 All-Academic Team with a 3.5 GPA.

Mitchell marks the fifth transfer that the Longhorns have landed this offseason. After spending a couple months in the portal, his choice came down to Texas and Florida. The Longhorns were able to earn his commitment Tuesday after Mitchell took an official visit to Texas.

The Longhorns lost big men Kai Jones, Greg Brown III, and potentially Jericho Sims to the NBA Draft. Sims can still choose to withdraw his name from the draft, but whether there is room for him on the roster anymore is to be determined.

The Longhorns basketball team is looking to avenge last season’s disappointments and contend for a title.

Damon Kaylor is heading home. The former Michigan State football lineman announced on Monday that he will be transferring to Ball State. Kaylor is a 6’6″, 315-pound lineman who was a 3-star recruit in the 2019 recruiting class.

Kaylor is just the next in a long exodus of former Mark Dantonio recruits to leave the program after Mel Tucker took the reins. Kaylor is from Huntington North High School, not too far from Muncie, Indiana, home of Ball State.
