WATCH: Alabama baseball defeats Nicholls in dramatic fashion on Friday night

Alabama baseball wins in dramatic fashion on Friday night in Tuscaloosa Regional!

Friday was a special moment in Alabama baseball history as the Crimson Tide hosted its first regional since the 2006 season. Then, something special happened in Sewell-Thomas Stadium.

In the bottom of the ninth in a 3-3 game, Jim Jarvis stepped to the plate with a runner in scoring position and two outs, and a chance to give Alabama the victory. A single into left field brought in William Hamiter giving the Crimson Tide a 4-3 win.

The teams traded blows for the majority of the contests, but the Crimson Tide came through in the clutch and secured a win in its first game of region play.

Watch as Jarvis delivers the game-winning RBI single!

Texas baseball advances past Louisiana behind great defense, 4-2

Clutch play by Lucas Gordon and Dylan Campbell helps Texas past Louisiana to the winner’s bracket.

The Texas Longhorns brought quality baseball to Coral Gables for its first NCAA Tournament game. Behind clutch pitching and fielding, Texas did just enough to move into the winner’s bracket.

The great performance begins with staff ace Lucas Gordon who bounced back from a tough outing in the Big 12 Tournament a week earlier. Gordon allowed just one run on five hits through seven innings. He put up eight strikeouts without allowing a walk.

Gordon had tremendous defense behind him from the Texas outfield. Early in the game, center fielder Eric Kennedy robbed what would have been a three-run home run to escape the fourth inning tied 0-0.

The defensive highlight of the day came from right fielder Dylan Campbell. His diving catch running toward the right field boundary erased what could have been an extra base hit.

Campbell had the most notable hitting performance of the day with two runs batted in and two hits. His double in the sixth inning extended his hitting streak to 36 consecutive games breaking the Big 12 hitting streak record.

With the win, Texas improves to 1-5 in games at neutral sites on the year. The team will now face the winner between Miami and Maine in the winner’s bracket.

Texas A&M Baseball: Jim Schlossnagle, Jack Moss, and Troy Wansing discuss Stanford Regional post practice

Texas A&M Baseball: Jim Schlossnagle, Jack Moss, and Troy Wansing discuss Stanford Regional post practice

Texas A&M arrived in Northern California on Thursday as the number two seed in the NCAA Stanford Regional at the Sunken Diamond. They will face the number three seed Cal State Fullerton Titans in the second game on Friday and the winner will take on the winner of the Stanford/San Jose State game.

This has a chance to be a very exciting game with Cal State Fullerton’s short game and the Aggie infield and on the reverse side the A&M power-hitting versus the Titan pitchers. If Aggie’s pitching is even close to what they showed in the SEC tournament I can see this game as a high-scoring high win with some early game drama.

The Aggies got out on the field today for some practice and Coach Schlossnagle, Jack Moss, and Troy Wansing answered a few questions before heading in.

Texas A&M can reignite rivalry vs. Texas in potential Super Regional matchup

As Texas A&M prepares for the NCAA Tournament, a possible Lone Star Showdown with the Texas Longhorns could await them in the Super Regional.

Texas A&M will officially rekindle the Lone Star Showdown when Texas joins the SEC in 2024, but the next chapter between these bitter rivals may arrive sooner than later.

The red-hot Aggies learned their seeding in Monday’s NCAA Selection Show, earning the No. 2 slot in the Stanford Regional alongside Stanford, Cal State Fullerton, and San Jose State. But just as interesting as their spot in the bracket is their pairing with the Coral Gables Regional for the Supers.

That regional is hosted by Miami (FL) and includes No. 3 Louisiana and fourth-seeded Maine. The group is rounding out with the No. 2 seeded Texas Longhorns.

If you take a moment and do the math, it means that if both the Aggies and Longhorns advance past the national seeds on the road, it would set up an intriguing Super Regional matchup against the backdrop of the Lone Star Showdown.

While the odds may be slim, both of these heated rivals are no stranger to facing each other in the postseason. The Longhorns bested the Maroon and White in the regional round in 2014 and 2018, only for the Aggies to serve a dish of revenge by taking down the Horns last year in Omaha.

As both of these teams head toward opposite coasts for the regionals, the distance apart mimics how these squads have been playing heading into the NCAA Tournament.

After entering the Big 12 Tournament as the No. 1 seed, the Longhorns were sent home early after going 0-2 with losses to Kansas and Kansas State. The underwhelming finish relinquished their chance of hosting a regional in the NCAA Tournament.

On the other end of the spectrum, Texas A&M is coming off an incredible showing in the SEC Tournament last week, highlighted by convincing wins over Tennessee, LSU, South Carolina, and Arkansas. A&M would punch their ticket to the SEC title game, eventually falling to Vanderbilt.

The Aggies’ tournament run begins on Friday, June 2, against 3-seed Cal State Fullerton, with the first pitch set for 9:00 pm CT on ESPN2.

A potential Texas vs. Texas A&M super regional is on the table

Texas and Texas A&M are no strangers to playing each other in the postseason.

The Road to Omaha starts this week as the NCAA Tournament Committee released the 2023 bracket on Monday.

Texas is getting shipped to the east coast as a No. 2 seed in the Coral Gables Regional. The Longhorns are matched up with Louisiana along with host school Miami and fourth-seeded Maine.

An interesting note with the bracket is a potential super regional between Texas and Texas A&M.

The red-hot Aggies are the No. 2 seed in the Stanford Regional and are as dangerous as any team in the tournament. They share the regional with Stanford, Cal State Fullerton and San Jose State.

Texas and Texas A&M are certainly no strangers to each other in postseason play. Texas got the better of A&M in the regional round in 2014 and 2018 before A&M flipped the script and took down the Horns in Omaha a season ago.

While it is a long shot both the Longhorns and Aggies advance past the national seeds on the road, it would set up a fun super regional between two heated rivals.

Texas A&M Baseball: Jim Schlossnagle, Hunter Haas, and Will Johnston discuss Stanford Regional

Aggies head coach Jim Schlossnagle, Hunter Haas, and Will Johnston discuss their upcoming matchup wilt Cal State Fullerton in the Stanford Regional.

Texas A&M is preparing to take the over 1,800-mile trip to Palo Alto, California, to face Cal State Fullerton (31-22) in the 2023 NCAA Tournament, as they will compete in the Stanford Regional. The bracket consists of one-seed host Stanford, 2-seed Texas A&M, 3-seed Cal State Fullerton, and 4-seed San Jose State.

As a 2-seed in the Regional bracket, The Aggie’s impressive performance in the SEC Tournament last week provided a jolt to their overall resume. However, the completion they’ll face is no walk in the park. Their opponent, the Cal State Fullerton Titans, is returning to the Tournament for the first time since 2018 and are winners of four National Titles, with their last coming in 2004.

Ending the regular season with a 32-23 (14-16 SEC), the Aggies when on quite the tear against some of the best competition college baseball has to offer, earning victories over Tennessee, LSU, South Carolina, and Arkansas before falling to Vanderbilt in the Title game. Saying that this Regional draw is favorable for the Aggies is a stretch, though the fact that eight SEC programs are hosting, three of which Texas A&M just defeated last week, bodes well going forward, especially if the pitching staff continues its hot streak down the stretch,

After the selection, head coach Jim Schlossnagle, Hunter Haas, and Will Johnston spoke to the local Aggie media to discuss their selection and what it would take to succeed in a fascinating tournament. Here’s what they had to say.

Texas gets favorable draw in NCAA Tourney besides facing Miami

The Corral Gables Region SHOULD come down to Miami and Texas.

Texas has a chance to make it back to Omaha for the College World Series. Despite a poor showing the last time the team took the field, the Longhorns were placed in a bracket that gives them a chance to advance.

The team begins its postseason as a No. 2 seed against the No. 3 seeded Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns on Friday at 1 p.m. CT. Louisiana sneaks into the field as one of the last four teams to make the NCAA Tournament. Texas and Louisiana are joined by the Maine Black Bears and the regional host Miami Hurricanes.

Miami will undoubtedly be a significant hurdle for the Longhorns after a 40-19 season for Corral Gables’ home team. Though Texas will have to take Louisiana seriously on Friday, the regional could come down to winning two of three matchups against the Hurricanes.

The grouping unites two of the most successful programs in college baseball history. Texas (38) and Miami (25) currently own the most College World Series appearances in collegiate baseball. Both will vie for a spot in this year’s round of eight teams in Omaha.

Texas A&M baseball selected as a 2-seed in the Stanford Regional

The Texas A&M Baseball team has been named the 2-seed in the Stanford regional and will take on 3-seed Cal State Fullerton on Friday.

The wait is over for head coach Jim Schlossnagle and his Aggie baseball squad, as the program has been named as the 2-seed in the Stanford Regional in the 2023 NCAA Tournament, where they will face 3-seed Cal State Fullerton (31-22) on Friday, June 2 at 9:00 pm CT. On ESPN2. The Titans will make their first Tournament appearance since 2018.

Regional host Stanford (38-16) will also take on 4-seed San Jose State (31-22) on Friday. For Texas A&M, it’s been a long and winding road to return to the Tournament for the second consecutive season in Schlossnagle’s second season with the program, where he led the Aggies to the College World Series semifinals in 2022.

Coming off their incredible showing in the SEC Tournament last week, Texas A&M (36-25) earned resume-building wins over Tennessee, LSU, South Carolina, and Arkansas, eventually falling to the Vanderbilt Commodores in the Championship game on Sunday afternoon.

After their performance last week, many expected the Aggies to land as a 2-seed in some Regional. Still, the challenge is steep because they will travel to Palo Alto, California, over 1,800 miles away from College Station, but this team has what it takes after facing top-tier SEC completion all season long.

Meet this season’s Auburn Regional participants

Auburn baseball will welcome Southern Miss, Samford, and Penn to Plainsman Park this weekend for what is sure to be a great regional.

Auburn learned Sunday that it would host a regional for the second straight season.  On Monday, the Tigers learned who they would play as they begin a quest for its third trip to the College World Series in its last four tries.

Auburn secured the No. 13 seed for this season’s tournament and will be paired with No. 4 seed Clemson. Each of these regionals provides excellent teams, so it will be interesting to see how these regionals shake out.

As for Auburn’s side of the regional, the Tigers will face Sun Belt champion Southern Miss, Southern Conference champion Samford, and Ivy League champion Penn as part of its regional. The biggest draw of the regional is Southern Miss, who ended the regular season as the No. 21 team in the RPI and was on the cusp of earning a host bid.

The No. 3 seed of the regional, Samford, is a team that Auburn is already familiar with. The Tigers defeated Samford at Plainsman Park on April 18 by a score of 13-3 in eight innings.

Finally, Auburn’s first opponent of the weekend will be the Penn Quakers, winners of the first-ever Ivy League tournament.

Texas Baseball: Longhorns miss out on hosting a regional

Texas baseball will hit the road for a regional.

The NCAA selection committee announced the 16 regional host sites for next week’s NCAA Tournament.

Texas was not picked as one of the top 16 national seeds for the first time since 2019. The Longhorns will learn on Monday afternoon where they are traveling for a regional.

Recent projections have Texas going out west to Stanford or to SEC territory in Auburn.

A disappointing performance at the Big 12 Tournament doomed Texas’ hosting chances. The 0-2 showing dropped the Longhorns RPI six spots as others on the hosting bubble helped their resumes.

If Texas wants to make it three straight appearances to the Men’s College World Series, it must win a road regional in a hostile environment. The last time Texas advanced to the super regionals outside of Austin was in 2014.

Here is a complete look at every hosting site across the country.
