Kiki Milloy sets Lady Vols’ all time home run record

Kiki Milloy sets the Lady Vols’ all time home run record.

No. 5 Tennessee (5-3) split a pair of games on opening day of the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic Friday in Cathedral City, California.

The Lady Vols opened the tournament with a, 4-0, victory over Loyola Marymount. Tennessee was run-ruled in its second game, losing to Cal State Fullerton, 11-2, in six innings.

Tennessee sophomore Karlyn Pickens (3-1) pitched a perfect game against Loyola Marymount. She pitched seven innings and recorded 12 strikeouts.

Kiki Milloy and McKenna Gibson each hit solo home runs for the Lady Vols. Destiny Rodriguez hit an RBI double and Taylor Pannell recoded an RBI on a sacrifice fly.

Against Cal State Fullerton (8-3), Tennessee led, 1-0, after Pannell hit a solo home run in the second inning.

Cal State Fullerton led, 8-1, before Gibson hit an RBI groundout, which scored Milloy, who recoded two stolen bases in the contest.

Lady Vols’ starting pitcher Payton Gottshall suffered the loss as she allowed six hits and six runs (three earned) in 3.2 innings. She recorded eight strikeouts in the game.

Milloy became Tennessee’s all time home run leader (58), passing Meghan Gregg for most in school history.

Texas A&M Baseball: Jim Schlossnagle, Jack Moss, and Troy Wansing discuss Stanford Regional post practice

Texas A&M Baseball: Jim Schlossnagle, Jack Moss, and Troy Wansing discuss Stanford Regional post practice

Texas A&M arrived in Northern California on Thursday as the number two seed in the NCAA Stanford Regional at the Sunken Diamond. They will face the number three seed Cal State Fullerton Titans in the second game on Friday and the winner will take on the winner of the Stanford/San Jose State game.

This has a chance to be a very exciting game with Cal State Fullerton’s short game and the Aggie infield and on the reverse side the A&M power-hitting versus the Titan pitchers. If Aggie’s pitching is even close to what they showed in the SEC tournament I can see this game as a high-scoring high win with some early game drama.

The Aggies got out on the field today for some practice and Coach Schlossnagle, Jack Moss, and Troy Wansing answered a few questions before heading in.

Scouting Report: Cal State Fullerton Titans Baseball

Scouting Report: Cal State Fullerton Titans Baseball

The Cal State Fullerton Titans punched their ticket to the NCAA Tournament after beating Cal Poly 7-4 in their final series of the regular season. The Titans ended the season with a 31-22 overall record and 20-10 in conference play securing the number two spot behind UC San Diego.  An NCAA transition rule makes UC San Diego ineligible to compete in this postseason giving the automatic bid to Cal State Fullerton.

This marks the first time since 2018 that the Titans will be back in the NCAA tournament where they advanced to the Super Regional. This year they are being led by a quartette of upperclassmen that hit the ball well and play top-notch defense. They led the Big West Conference in doubles with 116, hit .274 as a team, and were one of the top fielding teams with a .976 average. However, like the Aggies, they also had some issues with the mound where the flirted with a 5.00 ERA on the season and are allowing a .281 batting average.

Who to watch:

Caden Conner – .333 batting avg, 70 hits, 19 doubles, OPS -.922

Carter White – .332 batting avg, 42 runs, 9 stolen bases, fielding 1.000

Nate Nankil – .307 batting avg, 69 hits, 18 doubles, fielding 1.000

Program Highlights

Div. I National Championships – 4

Div. I Conference Championships – 31

Div. II Conference Championships – 2

College World Series Appearances – 18

Cal State Fullerton historically have been a really good baseball team with multiple College World Series appearances. Even though they’ve had a rough few years since their last NCAA qualification, this team is good enough to put pressure on Texas A&M early in the tournament.

Where LSU stands in D1Baseball’s latest field of 64 projections

After dropping the conference series to Auburn last weekend, LSU is now projected as the No. 2 national seed.

After dropping the conference series to Auburn last weekend, LSU is now projected as the No. 2 national seed in the NCAA tournament.

According to D1baseball, the Tigers will host a regional in Baton Rouge and play against [autotag]Cal State Fullerton[/autotag], [autotag]UTSA[/autotag], and [autotag]Nicholls[/autotag]. LSU is quite familiar with Nicholls. The Tigers are 1-1 against their in-state opponent with the last game resulting in a 6-5 loss in Baton Rouge.

UTSA is one of the hottest teams in the country right now. The Roadrunners are 36-12 overall this season and 19-4 in conference play. They’re a top-25 squad and possibly a top-15 team. They will give anyone they face a run for their money.

Cal State Fullerton is a team that is historically good at college baseball. Its name always seems to pop up around the time regional play starts. The Titans are 28-16 this season and 17-4 in conference play.

LSU’s next series will start on Friday at 7:30 p.m. CT against Mississippi State. This will be the last home conference series of the season.

Charel Allen returns to Notre Dame as assistant coach

It’s a homecoming for one of the Irish’s own.

In the mid-2000s, [autotag]Charel Allen[/autotag] was one of Notre Dame’s biggest stars. She was an All-American twice, an All-Big East First Team selection twice and was team captain as both a junior and a senior. She finished her collegiate career with 1,566 points, ranking her 15th in Irish history. Now, she’s coming back to South Bend as an assistant coach under [autotag]Niele Ivey[/autotag] after five seasons on the staff at Cal State Fullerton.

After Notre Dame, she was drafted by the WNBA’s now-defunct Sacramento Monarchs, for whom she played six games in 2008. She then thrived over eight seasons in Bulgaria, winning five championships, being selected to the all-league first team four times and earning one player of the year honor.

Ivey has this to say about the hire:

“Excited to welcome Charel back to the Notre Dame family. Charel brings a high-level mentality that leads to great player development. She possesses experience at every level – collegiately, professionally and internationally. She’s a rising star in this industry. She’s extremely passionate and loyal and understands what it takes to excel as a student-athlete at Notre Dame.”

Best of luck to Allen in her return.

The best reactions from men’s March Madness selection show, including Rutgers, Wyoming and more

Let’s go dancing!

One of the best parts of Selection Sunday is seeing teams react to the moment their names are read as part of the NCAA tournament bracket. It’s a reward for hard work (and maybe a little luck) and it’s so endearing to see the incredible emotions that come out when they realize they’re going dancing.

For some programs — like Rutgers this year — it’s finding out you made it off the bubble. For others, it’s hearing you earned that one-seed you were aiming for. Regardless, it’s awesome to see that much pure joy, especially after no tournament in 2020 and a fan-less tournament in 2021.

Let’s have some fun.

All of the CFN Fearless Predictions

Social Media reacts to Jordy Bahl’s perfect game in Sooners 10-0 win over Cal-State

Oklahoma improved to 11-0 on the heels of Jordy Bahl’s perfect game. Here’s how social media reacted to the fantastic performance.

The Oklahoma Sooners softball team is a beautiful two-act performance every time they step on the diamond. While the offense was the story heading into the 2022 season, the pitching staff has provided a plot twist that has the Sooners dominating from the circle.

True freshman pitcher Jordy Bahl has been dominant early in her Sooners career, not allowing an earned run all season. Against Cal-State Fullerton, she was downright dominant as Bahl threw a perfect game over six innings of work for her second perfect performance of the season.

In the Sooners opener, she threw 2.2 inning of perfect ball and combined with Nicole May and Hope Trautwein for a perfect game. This time, Jordy Bahl was a solo act in the circle, striking out 11 Titans hitters and inducing six ground ball outs, leading the Sooners to their 11th straight win to start the season.

Social media was excited for Jordy Bahl’s perfect performance and we gathered some of the best reactions below.
