Texas baseball drops its fourth straight in loss to Texas A&M, 9-2

Texas baseball hasn’t been all that competitive against top teams.

Texas baseball lost its fourth straight game on Tuesday. The Longhorns fell to the surging Texas A&M Aggies who in contrast are off to a scorching start.

The four-game stretch has seen Texas lose to good teams, but the Longhorns were completely outclassed in all four matchups. From a blown eight-run lead against Vanderbilt to a late inning lead against Texas State, head coach David Pierce’s team couldn’t capitalize even when it had an advantage.

In fairness to Pierce and company, top programs go through tough stretches. It’s normal for good teams to lose several games simply because baseball involves multiple variables. Even so, blown leads, unreliable performance and not playing up to top competition are indicators that a baseball team might not succeed in the postseason.

Texas can still improve, but the early start to the season portends what could be another disappointing postseason for college baseball’s most storied program. The team will need focused effort to live up to its high aspirations.

Aggie Pitching is in good hands with top assistant Max Wiener

New Aggie pitching coach Max Wiener is named as one of the top assistants in college baseball.

There is no doubt that the new pitching coach is already an asset to Coach Jim Schlossnagle’s staff, with multiple players expressing how much they enjoy his coaching style. Stanford transfer Braden Montgomery said as much earlier in the year.

Baseball America laid out its top ten hottest assistants on no part and Max Wiener has a well-earned spot. Below is only part of why he made the list:

During his time with Seattle, Weiner played a key role in developing several of the Mariners high-profile pitching prospects. Despite his age, Weiner’s knowledge and philosophies will go a long way in helping Texas A&M’s pitching staff both this year and beyond. Weiner is on track to be in play for a future head coaching position.

We can’t wait to see how much the pitching improves has an extremely inconsistent performance across the board last season.

No. 12 Texas A&M storms back to beat Iowa State 73-69 in consolation game of the ESPN Invitational Tournament

Texas A&M erased a 21-point deficit in a big comeback win over the Big 12’s Iowa State

No. 12 Texas A&M (6-1) beat Iowa State (5-1) for the third-place finish at the ESPN Events Invitational on Sunday.

Missing Tyrece Radford and Henry Coleman, the Aggies had an arduous task and needed a lot of help from the bench. It was a very rocky journey after Jace Carter tied the game 2-2 early as Iowa State would go on a 24-10 run before the Aggies would score again. After falling down big to Iowa State, the Aggies would soon go on an 11-0 run to pull within 10 to close out the 1st half down 35-25.

Texas A&M clawed their way back into the game to get the deficit down to four with 15 minutes left. Then back-to-back Wade Taylor scored, finally tying the game up a minute later. The Aggie got their first lead in the second half when Anderson Garcia scored on a putback off an offensive rebound to go up 45-43.

After taking the lead, they held Iowa State at bay, never allowing them to get back ahead the rest of the game. Whenever it looked like the Cyclones could retake the lead, the Aggies answered for a final score of 73-69 for an Aggie 3rd place finish in the tournament.

Below are the Aggie critical contributors from the game:

Wade Taylor IV: 14 points / 4 assists / 2 rebounds

Solomon Washington: 18 points / 6 rebounds

Andersson Garcia: 9 points / 6 rebound

Texas A&M will be back in action at 6:15 p.m. C.T. on Wednesday when they travel to Charlottesville, Va, to take on No. 24 Virginia on Nov 29th.

Texas A&M Baseball learned it’s two permanent opponents for 2025 and beyond

Texas & LSU are named as the Aggie Baseball’s permanent opponents starting during the 2025 season.

The SEC announced the permanent opponents for each SEC team starting in 2025. The committee got this one right, and I have no complaints about watching Texas A&M face long-time rival and soon-to-be conference mates again, the Texas Longhorns. LSU also became a bitter rival shortly after arriving in the SEC, which has grown across the Aggie athletics.

LSU and Texas always field really good teams, making each meeting a possible SEC Title Game Preview.

Below you can see the permanent opponents for the remainder of the SEC.

Alabama: Auburn, Tennessee

Arkansas: Ole Miss, Missouri

Auburn: Alabama, Georgia

Florida: Georgia, South Carolina

Kentucky: South Carolina, Vanderbilt

Aggie baseball has three assistant coaches in the D1baseball’s Top 100 assistant coach list

Texas A&M baseball will be in good hands next season as three Aggie assistant coaches make D1baseballs Top 100 watch list.

The Aggie Baseball team will have a lot of new faces on the diamond as well as on the coaching staff. While in no particular order, D1Baseball has released its list of the top college assistants for next season. Aggie coaches Nolan Cain (Associate Head Coach), Michael Earley (Hitting Coach), and Max Weiner (Pitching Coach) all made the Top 100 list, which bodes well for the team.

Below is what head coach Jim Scholssnagle had to see about each hire during their announcements.

Nolan Cain’s promotion:

“Nolan has been the glue to our program over the past two years and especially over the past few weeks,” Schlossnagle stated. “He has more than earned this promotion and has continued to prove his incredible value both on the field and on the recruiting trail. We are excited to have Nolan and his family in Aggieland for a long time!”

Michael Earley’s promotion to full-time position:

“First and foremost, we are very thankful to our administration and Ross Bjork for their continued commitment to have what we consider the most talented coaching and support staff in college baseball,” Schlossnagle said. “Coach Earley and his family are an integral part of our program both on and off the field and he is most surely a rising star in our industry. I am excited to see his role in our program grow over time.”

Max Weiner hiring:

“We are excited to welcome Max to Aggieland and look forward to his impact on the growth and development of our pitching staff both on and off the field, He has been at the forefront of the incredible transformation of the Seattle Mariners organization over the past few years.”

We look forward to seeing how the Aggie baseball team will develop under the talented and experienced coaching staff. You can catch some fall ball action if you are in Houston, Texas, as the Aggies will take on the Cougars in an exhibition on Friday.

As it starts to cool off in the Lone Star State, Texas A&M’s pitching staff is heating up

Texas A&M will be entering the 2023 season with a pitching roster full of power, as several pitcher are clocking 95mph or faster

If you were to take a poll of the three top issues the Aggie baseball team had last year, the first two would be about pitching. There was a point during the season when the Texas A&M starting pitchers could not make it past the 3rd inning without being pulled.

The pitching also took another blow during the off-season when former D1 Baseball’s Assistant Coach of the Year (2017) Nate Yeskie was pouched by LSU. Needing to replace his pitching coach, Jim Schlossnagle hit the pavement to find a replacement, and he did just that.

Regarding innovation and development, few up-and-comers are as respected as the new Aggie pitching coach, Max Weiner. That hire is paying early dividends that are starting to show up just in time for fall ball.

I can’t wait to see how much the pitching improves over the course of the year, and a big reason why is seeing how the top transfer in the class, Braden Montgomery, spoke about his experience so far with coach Weiner.

“It’s awesome I love that guy. He’s the best I’ve never seen someone approach pitching in the way that he does, and I love it. He makes throwing fun.”

I get the feeling this will be a very exciting 2023 campaign with a College World Series appearance.

Texas A&M baseball announces its 2024 SEC schedule

Texas A&M’s 30-game SEC baseball schedule was unveiled Wednesday afternoon, and the Maroon and White will have no shortage of must-watch matchups.

While the Aggies’ football season is well underway, we’d like to take a brief pause to give some coverage to Texas A&M on the baseball diamond. On Wednesday afternoon, A&M received its 30-game SEC schedule from the league.

The Maroon and White’s conference slate includes home series against Mississippi State, Auburn, Vanderbilt, Georgia, and Arkansas. The Aggies will face Florida, South Carolina, Alabama, LSU, and Ole Miss for respective three-game sets on the road.

A&M’s SEC slate begins March 15-17 in Gainesville when the Aggies face Florida. They will then follow with consecutive home series against Mississippi State (March 22-24) and Auburn (March 28-30).

Texas A&M alternates home and away series for the following five weeks against foes South Carolina, Vanderbilt, and Georgia, fitting in a trip to Tuscaloosa against the Crimson Tide on April 19-21.

The SEC gauntlet continues into May when the Maroon and White face off against the last two national champions. LSU will be first, with a three-game set on May 3-5 at Alex Box Stadium. They’ll then hit the road to Oxford to battle with Ole Miss. Rounding out the 2024 regular season slate is a title rematch with the defending SEC champion Razorbacks.

The SEC Tournament will once again return to Hoover Metropolitan Stadium in Hoover, Alabama, with the action running from May 21-26.

Remember that not all dates for the conference slate are final, as the series may shift to Thursday-Saturday for television purposes.

2024 RHP Marc Barhard has committed to Texas A&M baseball

Texas A&M has picked up a powerful arm in the 2024 cycle, as right handed pitcher Marc Bernhard has committed to the Maroon and White

Texas A&M baseball has continued its recruiting hot streak in the 2024 cycle after adding RHP Drew Rerick, the No.1-ranked player in North Dakota, early last week, and leading into the weekend, another power arm in the class announced his commitment to the Maroon and White on Saturday afternoon.

2024 RHP Marc Barnhard, who stands at 6-2 and 185 pounds, hails from Grand Oaks High School in Spring, Texas, and will join his high school teammate and fellow RHP Houston Tomlinson in the Aggies 2024 recruiting class while possessing a 90 to 92 mph fastball, according to Five Tools.

Barnhard, who has continued to work with Driveline Baseball, an online baseball training facility, the rising star, has continued to make strides in his game, specifically increasing his strength and mobility on the mound while working towards his lofty goal of hitting 95 mph velocity on his fastball when it’s all said and done.

Aside from Rerick and Tomlinson, Barhard joins a loaded class, including Flower Mound (Texas) outfielder Caden Sorrell, Villa Park (California) outfielder Gavin Grahovic, and Montgomery County (Texas) Lake Creek RHP Weston Moss, who all withdrew their names from the 2023 MLB Draft earlier this month to join Coach Jim Schlossnagle for the 2024 campaign.

Congratulations on your commitment, Marc! Gig ’em!

Class of 2024 RHP Drew Rerick has committed to Texas A&M baseball

In adding Rerick to their 2024 class, Texas A&M is getting a top 50 national prospect and the number on RHP in the state of North Dakota.

Texas A&M baseball is hot on the recruiting trail after adding one of the best arms in the country to their 2024 recruiting class.

On Monday night, class of 2024 RHP Drew Rerick announced his commitment to the Maroon and White. Rerick is a top 50 national prospect, and with his commitment, Coach Jim Schlossnagle and the Aggies now have both the number one RHP in the state of North Dakota and the top LHP in the state of Minnesota committed to their 2024 class.

Rerick is heading into his senior season at Fargo Davies High School and was named to the 2023 All-American Classic.

Rerick joins fellow RHP commit Houston Tomlinson out of Grand Oaks High School in Spring, Texas, who announced that he would continue his collegiate career with the Aggies last month. Both pitchers are joined by a trio of talents that include Flower Mound (Texas) outfielder Caden Sorrell, Villa Park (California) outfielder Gavin Grahovic, and Montgomery County (Texas) Lake Creek RHP Weston Moss, who all withdrew their names from the 2023 MLB Draft to join the Aggies for the 2024 campaign.

Rerick’s addition should bolster the depth in the Aggies’ bullpen after RHP Nathan Dettmer, LHP Brandyn Garcia, and LHP Will Johnston all heard their names called in this year’s draft. Texas A&M ended the 2023 season with a cumulative 5.67 ERA, highlighting how their performance on the mound will be a key area of improvement next season.

Congratulations to Drew on your commitment! Gig ’em!
