Giants injury report: Kenny Golladay returns to practice, eight sit out

The New York Giants welcomed WR Kenny Golladay back to practice on Thursday, but eight did not participate – some due to COVID-19 protocols.

The New York Giants were back on the practice field on Thursday under some unusual circumstances.

On Tuesday through Wednesday, the Giants had in excess of 13 positive COVID-19 tests. However, they quickly determined many (see: most) were false positives and that an error had occurred.

The team paused rapid testing, re-tested the entire organization, canceled in-person press conferences and pushed the team’s entire schedule back. When they did finally take the field in East Rutherford, many were absent.

Due to the continued testing, several Giants did not participate in practice due to COVID-19 protocols. Others, including wide receiver John Ross, were added to the injury report for other reasons.

On the positive side of things, wide receiver Kenny Golladay (knee) returned to practice on a limited basis. He has an outside shot to play in Week 9.

The Giants’ full Thursday injury report can be found below:

Did not participate: RB Saquon Barkley (ankle/COVID protocol), RB Gary Brightwell (COVID protocol), LB Lorenzo Carter (ankle), DB Nate Ebner (ankle), DB Xavier McKinney (COVID protocol), WR Dante Pettis (shoulder), TE Kyle Rudolph (personal), WR Sterling Shepard (quad)

Limited participant: WR Kenny Golladay (knee), WR John Ross (quad), TE Kaden Smith (knee), WR Kadarius Toney (thumb)

Full participant: OL Matt Skura (cleared COVID protocol)

Giants injury report: Saquon Barkley, seven others miss practice

New York Giants RB Saquon Barkley and two others missed practice over COVID-19 protocols; eight in total. Two others were limited.

The New York Giants returned to the practice field in East Rutherford on Wednesday but did so without 10 players.

Three of those players — running back Saquon Barkley, guard Matt Skura and safety Xavier McKinney — missed practice due to COVID-19 protocols. All three tested positive for the virus and are awaiting long-testing results.

They join running backs coach Burton Burns, who also tested positive and will miss Sunday’s game against the Las Vegas Raiders.

Barkley, Skura and McKinney, if fully vaccinated (Barkley is), will need to test negative twice over a 24-hour span and show no symptoms in order to be able to play on Sunday.

The Giants’ full Wednesday injury report can be found below (projected due to practice being a walkthrough):

Did not participate: RB Saquon Barkley (ankle/COVID protocol), LB Lorenzo Carter (ankle), DB Nate Ebner (ankle), WR Kenny Golladay (knee), FS Xavier McKinney (COVID protocol), WR Dante Pettis (shoulder), WR Sterling Shepard (quad), OL Matt Skura (COVID protocol)

Limited participant: TE Kaden Smith (knee), WR Kadarius Toney (thumb)

Giants’ Saquon Barkley, Kenny Golladay among those out vs. Chiefs

The New York Giants will be without RB Saquon Barkley, WR Kenny Golladay and three others on Monday night against the Kansas City Chiefs.

The New York Giants decided against placing running back Saquon Barkley (knee) and wide receiver Kenny Golladay (knee) on injured reserve three weeks ago, anticipating they would return within the IR window.

That did not happen.

Both Barkley and Golladay will miss Monday night’s game against the Kansas City Chiefs and they will not be alone.

In addition to Barkley and Golladay, the Giants will also be without linebackers Lorenzo Carter (ankle) and Carter Coughlin (ankle), as well as special teams ace Nate Ebner (ankle).

The good news? Wide receivers Sterling Shepard (hamstring) and Kadarius Toney (ankle) both practiced this week and could play in Week 8.

The Giants’ final injury report of the week can be found below:

Out: RB Saquon Barkley (ankle), WR Kenny Golladay (knee), LB Lorenzo Carter (ankle), LB Carter Coughlin (ankle) and DB Nate Ebner (ankle).

Doubtful: N/A

Questionable: WR Sterling Shepard (hamstring), WR Kadarius Toney (ankle), TE Kaden Smith (knee)

Meanwhile, for the Chiefs, here is how their final injury report stacked up to close out the work week:

Giants injury report: Kadarius Toney returns to practice

New York Giants WR Kadarius Toney returned to practice on a limited basis Friday, while LB Carter Coughlin was added to the injury report.

The New York Giants were back on the practice field on Friday and with Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” blaring over the speakers, wide receiver Kadarius Toney (ankle) re-joined his teammates.

Head coach Joe Judge indicated that was possible prior to practice and suggested running back Saquon Barkley (knee) and wide receiver Kenny Golladay (knee) might return as well. However, they remained with trainers during the portion of practice open to the media.

The same can be said for linebacker Carter Coughlin, who did not appear on Thursday’s injury report. His status for Monday’s game against the Kansas City Chiefs is now uncertain.

The Giants’ full Friday injury report can be found below:

Did not participate: RB Saquon Barkley (ankle), LB Lorenzo Carter (ankle), DB Nate Ebner (ankle), WR Kenny Golladay (knee), LB Carter Coughlin (ankle)

Limited participant: TE Evan Engram (calf), DL Danny Shelton (pec), WR Sterling Shepard (hamstring), TE Kaden Smith (knee), WR Kadarius Toney (ankle)

Giants injury report: Saquon Barkley, Kadarius Toney and three others sit

The New York Giants had a lengthy injury report on Thursday, including five who did not practice and four others who were limited.

The New York Giants returned to the practice field on Thursday without safety Jabrill Peppers, who has been placed on injured reserve with a ruptured ACL and high-ankle sprain.

Eyes turned to running back Saquon Barkley and wide receivers Kenny Golladay, Sterling Shepard and Kadarius Toney, all of whom sat out last week.

The good news? Shepard was on the field participating with his teammates. The bad news? Golladay, Barkley and Toney were not, although they did work on the side with trainers. All are considered 50-50 shots to play on Monday night against the Kansas City Chiefs.

The Giants’ full Thursday injury report can be found below:

Did not participate: RB Saquon Barkley (ankle), LB Lorenzo Carter (ankle), DB Nate Ebner (ankle), WR Kenny Golladay (knee), WR Kadarius Toney (ankle)

Limited participant: TE Evan Engram (calf), DL Danny Shelton (pec), WR Sterling Shepard (hamstring), TE Kaden Smith (knee)

Giants injury report: Daniel Jones, Kenny Golladay sit out

New York Giants QB Daniel Jones (concussion) and WR Kenny Golladay (knee) were among several who did not practice on Wednesday (projected).

The New York Giants returned to the practice field on Wednesday and expectations were that the injury list would be sizable. Almost painfully populated, in fact.

It was.

But there was one interesting development. While head coach Joe Judge held his daily press conference and stated Daniel Jones remains in concussion protocol, Jones took the field in pads and was seen tossing the ball around.

Some lines were crossed somewhere, and Judge did not appear happy.

Meanwhile, Judge also said that wide receiver Kenny Golladay and running back Saquon Barkley would not practice. The good news is that wide receiver Kadarius Toney did participate.

Finally, linebacker Cam Brown was designated to return to practice.

The Giants’ full Wednesday injury report can be found below (projected due to practice being a walkthrough):

Did not participate: QB Daniel Jones (concussion), RB Saquon Barkley (ankle), WR Kenny Golladay (knee), OT Andrew Thomas (foot) and G Matt Skura (knee), CB Rodarius Williams (knee)

Limited participant: WR Kadarius Toney (ankle), WR Sterling Shepard (hamstring), WR Darius Slayton (hamstring), S Jabrill Peppers (hamstring), S Logan Ryan (hip), G Ben Bredeson (hand), S Nate Ebner (quad)

Giants rule Sterling Shepard, two others out vs. Saints

The New York Giants have ruled WR Sterling Shepard, WR Darius Slayton and one other out against the New Orleans Saints in Week 4.

The New York Giants will take on the New Orleans Saints and an extremely hostile Caesars Superdome crowd this coming Sunday while shorthanded.

Wide receivers Sterling Shepard (hamstring) and Darius Slayton (hamstring) were unable to practice all week and have been officially ruled out. Ditto guard Ben Bredeson (hand).

Bredeson was expected to miss the game and it’s likely that former Baltimore Ravens center Matt Skura will replace him. Meanwhile, Kenny Golladay, who is dealing with a hip issue, and rookie receiver Kadarius Toney could see increased roles in Shepard and Slayton’s absence.

Finally, running back Saquon Barkley (knee) escaped designation for the first time this year.

The full and official injury report can be found below:

Out: OL Ben Bredeson (hand), WR Sterling Shepard (hamstring), WR Darius Slayton (hamstring)

Questionable: DB Keion Crossen (elbow), DB Nate Ebner (quad), TE Kaden Smith (knee), LB Tae Crowder (hamstring)

No designation: RB Saquon Barkley (knee), FB Cullen Gillaspia (ankle), WR Kenny Golladay (hip), LS Casey Kreiter (knee), DB Logan Ryan (hamstring)

For the New Orleans Saints, we are still waiting.

Out: N/A

Giants injury report: LB Tae Crowder added, limited

New York Giants LB Tae Crowder (hamstring) was added to the injury report as a limited participant on Thursday.

The New York Giants returned to the practice field on Thursday for another abbreviated session (although more than a walkthrough) — this time down from two hours to 90 minutes.

The bad news is that wide receiver Sterling Shepard and Darius Slayton both remain sidelined with hamstring injuries.

The good news is that fellow wide receiver John Ross, who is still on injured reserve, participated for the second straight day. Running back Saquon Barkley (knee) was also limited.

Offensive lineman Ben Bredeson (hand) was not seen during the portion of practice open to the media.

The Giants’ full Thursday injury report can be found below:

Did not participate: OL Ben Bredeson (hand), WR Sterling Shepard (hamstring), WR Darius Slayton (hamstring)

Giants injury report: 12 players among the walking wounded

The New York Giants listed 12 players on their projected injury report on Wednesday, including RB Saquon Barkley and DB Logan Ryan.

The New York Giants returned to practice on Wednesday but as opposed to their usual two-hour fully-padded session, they instead held a roughly 55-minute walkthrough.

The results were not positive.

Running back Saquon Barkey (knee) and wide receivers Sterling Shepard (hamstring) and Darius Slayton (hamstring) did not participate.

Meanwhile, long snapper Casey Kreiter was limited with a knee injury that might be of concern. The Giants worked out three long snappers on Tuesday which could indicate some pessimism regarding Kreiter’s Week 4 availability.

In total, 12 players were listed.

The Giants’ full Wednesday injury report can be found below (projection due to walkthrough):

Did not participate: OL Ben Bredeson (hand), LB Blake Martinez (knee), WR Sterling Shepard (hamstring), WR Darius Slayton (hamstring)

Limited participant: RB Saquon Barkley (knee), DB Keion Crossen (elbow), DB Nate Ebner (quad), FB Cullen Gillaspia (ankle), WR Kenny Golladay (hip), LS Casey Kreiter (knee), DB Logan Ryan (hamstring), TE Kaden Smith (knee)

Giants’ Cam Brown out, Kenny Golladay questionable vs. Falcons

The New York Giants have ruled Cam Brown out and listed three others, including Kenny Golladay, as questionable vs. the Atlanta Falcons.

The New York Giants took the field for their final practice of Week 3 on Friday and there was good news to be had all around.

Tight end Evan Engram (calf), wide receivers Kenny Golladay (hip) and Kadarius Toney (ankle), safety Logan Ryan (hamstring) and running back Saquon Barkley (knee) all participated in the portion of practice open to the media.

Unsurprisingly, most are expected to play on Sunday against the Atlanta Falcons despite their designations. Golladay will be a game-time decision.

Meanwhile, linebacker Cam Brown (hamstring) did not participate. He has been ruled out.

The Giants’ final injury report can be found (in full) below:
