Miami Heat at Boston Celtics Game 2 odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Wednesday’s Miami Heat at Boston Celtics odds and lines, with NBA expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Miami Heat (0-1) face the Boston Celtics (1-0) Wednesday for Game 2 of their best-of-7, 1st-round series. Tip-off from TD Garden is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET (TNT). Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Heat vs. Celtics odds and make our expert NBA picks and predictions.

Regular-season series: Celtics won 3-0

Boston took Sunday’s opener 114-94 behind F Jayson Tatum’s 1st career playoff triple-double (23 points, 10 rebounds, 10 assists). Tatum only made 1-of-8 3-pointers, but the team finished 22-for-49 (44.9%) behind the arc. G Derrick White added 20 points, while 6 Celtics finished in double-figures for points.

They led by 5 points after the opening quarter, 15 points at the half and 32 points entering the 4th. They easily covered as 14.5-point home favorites.

Miami, on the other hand, allowed 10 offensive rebounds but on the bright side, it outscored Boston in the paint 44-24, which is antiquated in today’s NBA. C Bam Adebayo led the Heat with a team-high 24 points.

The Under (210.5) did hit, barely. Although it appears that teams are either adjusting to the playoff atmosphere or ramping up their defense, either way teams are struggling to score so far.

Heat at Celtics picks and predictions

Prediction

Celtics 106, Miami 94

Moneyline

Home teams dominated the playoffs out of the gate, going 11-0 straight up through Monday, but 2 visiting teams (Indiana at Milwaukee and Dallas at LA Clippers) picked off wins Tuesday.

However, the Celtics don’t seem at risk of losing this game at home. They are an NBA best 38-4 as home favorites this season. But given the current odds (-1400), there is no value at picking them straight up.

PASS.

Against the spread

In the 1st-round openers, 6 of the 8 matchups ended in double-digit wins. So far, Game 2’s have been closer as teams are adjusting and finding advantages.

I expect the same for this game. As a road underdog during the regular season, Miami had the 2nd-best cover percentage (63.0%).

Entering Wednesday, NBA Playoffs underdogs are 4-2 ATS in Game 2’s.

BET HEAT +14.5 (-110).

Over/Under

Miami and the Denver Nuggets tied for the NBA’s best Under record during the regular season at 47-35, according to Teamrankings.com. The Heat only scored 94 points in their Game 1 loss — they feature a league-best 28-15 Under record as a road team.

Boston’s defense allowed just 109.2 points per game in the regular season and as teams up their effort for the playoffs, I expect another low-scoring game.

Plus, only 2 of the 6 Game 2’s had both teams score over 100 point so far.

LEAN UNDER 203.5 (-110).

NBA Play-In Tournament: Chicago Bulls at Miami Heat odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Friday’s Chicago Bulls at Miami Heat odds and lines, with NBA expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Chicago Bulls (40-43) meet the Miami Heat (46-37) in an NBA Eastern Conference Play-In Game. Tip-off at Kaseya Center is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET (ESPN). Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Bulls vs. Heat odds and make our expert NBA picks and predictions.

The winner will earn the 8th seed in the East and will face top-seeded Boston in a best-of-7 1st-round series, while the loser will head home for the offseason.

Season series: Tied 2-2

These teams not only split their 4-game regular-season series, but Chicago and Miami each won one on the other’s home court. However, the Bulls hold a 3-1 against-the-spread (ATS) edge in the 4 games. Plus, Chicago has a healthy 6-2 ATS mark in the previous 8 head-to-head meetings, going 3-1 ATS last season, too.

The Over has cashed in each of the past 3 meetings in the series, including both battles in South Florida.

The big news for Miami is on the injury front, as leading scorer F Jimmy Butler (knee) is out indefinitely. Butler was injured in Wednesday’s 105-104 play-in game loss at Philadelphia. He played the final 3 quarters after suffering a knee injury and finished with 19 points. After an MRI Thursday, it was determined he has an injury to the medial collateral ligament (MCL) in his right knee and he is expected to miss several weeks.

Chicago won 131-116 in its play-in game vs. the Atlanta Hawks Wednesday, cashing as a 3-point favorite as the Over (223) easily connected. The Over has hit in 5 straight games for the Bulls.

Bulls at Heat picks and predictions

Prediction

Bulls 107, Heat 105

Moneyline

The BULLS (+105) are worth a look as short underdogs on the road. First off, Chicago has already won in Miami this season, and the Heat are in a world of hurt after losing Jimmy Buckets to the knee injury.

Chicago looked awfully good taking care of Atlanta at home in the play-in game Wednesday, and the Bulls have won 3 of the past 4 outings.

Against the spread

There isn’t a ton of reason to back the Bulls +2.5 (-115) catching the points, unless you’re absolutely adamant that the Heat will win, but only by 2 points.

Chicago enters on a 4-0 ATS streak, and it has covered 6 of the past 8 meetings against Miami.

PASS.

Over/Under

OVER 205.5 (-110) is a strong play, even if Miami is missing Butler, who tied with G Tyler Herro as the team’s leading scorer at 20.8 points per game.

Miami still has plenty of players like Herro, C Bam Adebayo (19.3 PPG, 10.4 RPB) and F Duncan Robinson (12.9 PPG) to get the job done offensively. The Heat cashed the Over (208.5) against the 76ers Wednesday but just barely — by a hook (a half point). The Over has hit in 3 straight, and 11 of the past 12 games for the Heat since March 29.

For Chicago, the Over (223) was never in question Wednesday against Atlanta, and the total has gone high in 5 straight outings. The Bulls are good for 117 or more points in each game, and 127 or more points in 3 of the past 4, while conceding 116 or more points across 4 of the past 5 contests.

NBA Play-In Tournament: Miami Heat at Philadelphia 76ers odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Wednesday’s Miami Heat at Philadelphia 76ers odds and lines, with NBA expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Miami Heat (46-36) and Philadelphia 76ers (47-35) meet in the NBA Play-In Tournament at Wells Fargo Center Wednesday. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET (ESPN). Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Heat vs. 76ers odds and make our expert NBA picks and predictions.

Season series: Tied 2-2

Miami ended its season on a 2-game winning streak after taking down the Toronto Raptors 118-103 Sunday while failing to cover as a 16-point home favorite. C Thomas Bryant and G Jaime Jaquez Jr. each scored a game-high 18 points while Bryant added 10 rebounds for a double-double. Six Miami players scored in double figures, and the team shot 52.9% from the field in the win.

Philadelphia closed out the regular season on an 8-game winning streak after dominating the Brooklyn Nets 107-86 and covering as a 13-point home favorite Sunday. G Tyrese Maxey scored a game-high 26 points, while F Paul Reed (13 points and 12 rebounds) had a double-double. Five 76ers players scored in double figures, and the team shot 42.7% from the field in the win.

Wednesday’s winner will clinch the 7 seed in the East and play the New York Knicks in the 1st round of the NBA Playoffs, while the loser will face the winner of the game between the Atlanta Hawks and Chicago Bulls for the 8 seed.

Heat at 76ers picks and predictions

Prediction

76ers 112, Heat 104

Moneyline

PASS.

There is no value on Philadelphia (-225), which has home-court advantage and has won 8 of its last 10 games, including 4 of its last 5 by 10 or more points.

Against the spread

BET 76ERS -5.5 (-105).

Philadelphia is 10-0 ATS in its last 10 games, including 7-0 ATS in its last 7 as a favorite. Philly will see Embiid return to the lineup as well, which will provide needed size against a tough Miami squad.

Miami has failed to cover the spread in 2 of its last 3 games.

Over/Under

BET OVER 208.5 (-110).

While the Sixers have played good defense recently, holding opponents to 102 or fewer points in 3 of their last 5 games, 208.5 is too low of a total to bet the Under. Philly has scored 120 or more points in 3 of its last 4 games and 114 or more in 6 of its last 9.

Miami has hit the Over in 9 of its last 10 games and scored 115 or more points in 7 of its last 10. It has allowed 111 or more points in 3 of its last 5 games.

Mavericks at Heat picks and predictions

Prediction

Mavericks 110, Heat 103

Moneyline

PASS.

Dallas should win, but it’s not worth the risk. Look to the spread and/or total.

Against the spread

LEAN MAVERICKS -6 (-106).

Dallas has won each of its last 4 games and is 9-1 in its last 10 games. The Mavericks are also 5-1 in their last 6 road games. Dallas has won 3 of its last 4 matchups vs. the Heat and are 2-1 in the last 3 meetings in Miami.

Both the Heat (6-3-1) and the Mavericks (9-1) have been very good ATS in their last 10, which makes it hard to make a confident pick here.

Over/Under

LEAN UNDER 215 (-110).

The Under has hit in 4 of Dallas’ last 6 road games and is 7-3 in its last 10 overall. The Under has been safer for both teams this season, being 43-36 for Dallas and 46-33 for the Heat. The Under has also hit in 3 of the last 4 Dallas-Miami matchups.

Be aware the Over has hit in 7 consecutive games for the Heat.

Season series: Series tied 1-1

The standings of the Eastern Conference are tight and teams are trying to avoid the play-in games. The Pacers and Heat are 2 of those teams.

With just a week to go in the regular season, this is a must-win game for both teams. The winner would not only be a game up in the standings, but also hold the tie breaker, making it an essentially 2-game lead.

Both are coming off wins on Friday night. The Pacers beat an injured Oklahoma City Thunder squad 126-112 while the Heat won against the Rockets in Houston 119-104.

Heat at Pacers picks and predictions

Prediction

Heat 115, Pacers 104

Moneyline

Both teams have been tough underdogs this season so since the books are favoring Indiana, it puts them in a tough spot.

First, the Pacers are 10th in the East in win percentage as a home favorite (16-11). And the Heat are just below the Boston Celtics in the Eastern Conference in road record at 23-16.

Finally, coming off a win the Pacers are just 20-23 this season while the Heat are a much better 23-19.

LEAN MIAMI -105.

Against the spread

Miami has the 3rd-best record ATS as a road underdog (15-9). But if you like the value of taking them straight up then you don’t need to add this bet.

PASS.

Over/Under

While the Heat are on a 5-game Over streak right now, on the road this season they are 27-12 toward the Under. And, after a win both teams trend toward the Under. Miami is 28-14 and Indiana is 25-18.

BET UNDER 227.5 (-105).

Heat at Rockets picks and predictions

Prediction

Heat 110, Rockets 107

Moneyline

BET HEAT (-144).

Miami is the healthier side and has more to play for. It sits 7th in the Eastern Conference and, with a late-season run, could finish 6th and avoid playing Milwaukee or Boston in the 1st round and the play-in tournament.  The Heat have won 3 of their last 4 and have won 4 of their last 5 on the road. They should have more fire to come out on top.

The Rockets were among the hottest teams in the NBA, but have lost 3 straight. While their 11-game win streak was impressive, it was largely against non-playoff teams. The Heat are hot while the Rockets have cooled off, losing 3 straight all to teams in playoff contention.

The Heat are the better side and, at these odds, give good value to win outright. Back HEAT (-144).

Against the spread

PASS.

While there is some value on the Heat’s spread, this should be a close battle, and taking them to win outright is the better wager.

Over/Under

LEAN OVER 215 (-110).

The Heat have gone Over in 4 straight games, scoring at least 109 in 3 of those and scoring 119 or more in 2 of the 4. Miami has allowed 107 or more in 2 of its last 3 as well.

The Rockets are 9-2 O/U in their last 11 games. They have scored at least 106 points in all but 1 of those games. Houston ranks 14th in pace and has a plethora of young talent that should want to push the tempo.

Back OVER 215 (-110).

The Heat are riding a 3-game win streak, coming off a 109-99 home win over the New York Knicks Tuesday and closing as a 2.5-point home favorite. 76ers at Heat picks and predictions

Prediction

Heat 108, 76ers 104

Moneyline

PASS.

The Heat (-142) are the play here and are the hotter and more in-sync team; however, the value is on the spread, not the moneyline. Given the Philadelphia (+120) injury situation, now is not the time to back it as an underdog.

Against the spread

BET HEAT -2.5 (-112).

The Heat have won 3 straight games and 4 of their last 5, taking down the Cleveland Cavaliers and New York Knicks at home in the last week and a half. They are 2-0 ATS in their last 2 games as a favorite of 0-5 points. Miami has the defense in C Bam Adebayo to limit one of the best scorers in the game in Embiid, who played Tuesday and should be active.

The 76ers have lost 3 of their last 5 and 5 of their last 8, but with their stars returning from injury, the spreads are starting to get narrower, having been an underdog of 6 or more in 6 of those 8. The Heat should have more need to win this game and are the healthier side.

Take HEAT -2.5 (-112).

Over/Under

LEAN OVER 210.5 (-108).

The 76ers have gone Over in 4 of their last 6 games, scoring at least 109 points in 3 straight and at least 107 in 4 straight. They have allowed at least 107 in 5 of their last 6.

The Heat have gone Over in 3 straight, scoring at least 109 in each, and have gone Over in 5 of their last 7. With Robinson and Rozier both expected to play, the offensive firepower and shooting should be there as well.

Back OVER 210.5 (-108).

New York Knicks at Miami Heat odds, picks and predictions

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The New York Knicks (44-30) square off against the Miami Heat (41-33) Tuesday with tip-off from Kaseya Center set for 7:30 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Knicks vs. Heat odds and make our expert NBA picks and predictions.

Season series: Knicks lead 2-0

The Knicks are coming off a heartbreaking 113-112 home loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder Sunday. G Jalen Brunson followed up his 61-point performance with 30. Knicks not named Brunson shot just 9-for-32 (28%) from 3-point land in the Sunday defeat. The Knicks remain in 4th place, a half-game behind the Cleveland Cavaliers in the East. They’re 7-3 over the last 10.

The Heat are in the top Play-In Tournament spot at 7th and trail the Indiana Pacers for 6th by a game. They’re coming off convincing, 142-82 and 119-107 wins over the Portland Trail Blazers and Washington Wizards. In the Wiz game Sunday, C Bam Adebayo had 22 points, 10 boards and 5 assists.

Knicks at Heat and predictions

Prediction

Heat 111, Knicks 106

Moneyline

The Knicks are 2-0 against the Heat this season, but both games were at MSG. The teams are an even 5-5 over the last 10 meetings, but Miami has won all 4 at home. I look for Miami to make it 5 in a row, and it’s not priced out of our pocket yet.

You can take HEAT -150 or look to the spread.

Against the spread

Each Heat win in Miami in this 10-game window has been by 4+ points. This 2.5-point window is right at my limit that I’d lay on the spread. F Jimmy Butler has kind of been on cruise control, averaging 14.2 PPG while shooting 45.4% (15-for-33) during the stretch. I’d look for him to ramp it up Tuesday night.

Take the HEAT -2.5 (-115).

Over/Under

This is a smaller total than I envisioned at 1st glance. The Heat are 4-6 O/U over the last 10, and the Knicks are 6-4. This is the 2nd-lowest total in this matchup in the last 10 meetings.

Take the OVER 206.5 (-110).

Season series: Heat lead 2-1.

While the Heat lead the season series 2-1, the Wizards are 2-1 against the spread (ATS) in those matchups. They are coming off a 96-87 home loss to the Detroit Pistons Friday, failing to cover as a 3.5-point favorite. The Wizards have lost 7 of their last 10 and are 3-7 ATS in that span. They are 33-39-2 ATS on the season.

The Heat have won 5 of their last 8 and are coming off a 142-82 home win over the Portland Trail Blazers Friday, covering as a 14-point favorite. Heat at Wizards picks and predictions

Prediction

Heat 108, Wizards 103

Moneyline

PASS.

The Heat are rightfully a strong favorite, and given the expensive odds, there’s no value in playing them to win outright. Similarly, the Wizards are missing too many key pieces to take to pull off the upset.

Against the spread

BET WIZARDS +11 (-110).

Washington has covered its last 2 games as a double-digit underdog, beating the Bulls by 2 on the road and beating the Kings by 7 at home yet closing as a 13-point and 11-point underdog respectively. The Wizards will have some capable scoring with 4 players averaging double figures set to be active.

The Heat are 1-2 ATS in their last 3 games as a double-digit favorite. They have failed to top 92 points in 2 of their last 4, so the Heat may not have the firepower offensively to pull away by a sizable margin.

That said, back WIZARDS +11 (-110).

Over/Under

LEAN UNDER 217 (-108).

Miami is 3-9 O/U in its last 12 games and has scored 92 or fewer in 4 of its last 9. The Heat will be missing Robinson and Herro, 2 of their top-5 scoring options which could hurt their offensive efficiency.

The Wizards, who play at one of the fastest paces in the NBA, have scored 107 or fewer in 4 of their last 8 and put up just 87 in their last game. The Heat won’t look to push the pace and have a strong, efficiency defense that should be able to limit a shorthanded Washington side.

Combine it all together and back UNDER 217 (-108).
