Bryce Young wins Manning Award as nation’s top QB

2021 was a special season for first-year Alabama starting quarterback Bryce Young. Young led his team to an SEC Championship and a birth in the college football playoffs.

Aside from the great team accomplishments, Young also collected the most prestigious individual award in the sport, bringing home the Heisman Trophy. Young was the first Alabama quarterback to win the coveted trophy.

Young has now added to his trophy collection by winning the Manning Award which is given to the nation’s top quarterback.

Alabama announced the award on its official Twitter account earlier today.

Justin Fields named finalist for Manning Award

The Allstate Sugar Bowl announced the twelve finalists for the Manning Award. Ohio State QB Justin Fields is among the names.

Justin Fields has another award he’s been named a finalist for. This time, he’s made the list of twelve players selected as a finalist for the Manning Award, which goes to college football’s top quarterback annually.

Despite the shortened season, Fields has put up some pretty impressive numbers. He leads the nation in completion percentage (78.1), and has thrown 15 touchdowns to just three interceptions in five games so far, and his passer efficiency rating of 196.1 is second only to Alabama’s Mac Jones. Fields currently leads the Big Ten and is No. 15 in the country with an average of 281.4 passing yards per game.

The winner of the Manning Award will be announced following the College Football National Championship Game in January.

Michigan State QB Rocky Lombardi named Manning Award Quarterback of the Week

Michigan State’s Rocky Lombardi was named Manning Award Quarterback of the Week for his strong play against Michigan.

[jwplayer YVGxlizd-PROpJzTY]

Michigan State quarterback Rocky Lombardi put all questions to rest about his role as the starter in last week’s big win over Michigan. The redshirt junior threw for 323 yards and 3 touchdowns on the road against MSU’s in-state rivals, and he was rewarded for that performance by being named the Manning Award Quarterback of the Week.

The Allstate Sugar Bowl selects eight Manning Award Stars of the Week each week. Fans then vote for the Quarterback of the Week out of that pool of eight players. This week, the field was:

  • Rocky Lombardi, Michigan State
  • Matt Corral, Ole Miss
  • Aidan O’Connell, Purdue
  • Desmond Ridder, Cincinnati
  • Jack Sears, Boise State
  • Nick Starkel, San Jose State
  • Taulia Tagovailoa, Maryland
  • D.J. Uiagalelei, Clemson

Last week’s winner was Dillon Gabriel out of UCF. Trevor Lawrence won the week before that.

Bo Nix named to Manning Award Stars of the Week

The Auburn quarterback threw for 238 yards and touchdown while also rushing for a score.

Bo Nix had probably his best game of the season against Ole Miss on Saturday, completing 23-of-30 passes for 238 yards and a touchdown while rushing for 52 yards and another score as the Tigers pulled out a 35-28 victory in Oxford.

He was also clutch, hitting Seth Williams for the 58-yard, game-winning touchdown with 1:11 left to regain the lead for Auburn. For his efforts, he is one of the eight quarterbacks that has been named to the Manning Award Stars of the Week.

Malik Willis, an Auburn transfer who now plays at Liberty, was also on the list after he broke the school record for most touchdowns responsible for (7) by throwing for six and rushing for one, helping lead the Flames to a 56-35 win against Southern Miss.

Wisconsin QB Jack Coan named to third watch list for the Manning Award

On Thursday afternoon, Jack Coan was named to his third preseason watch list in addition to the watch lists for the Davey O’Brien and Maxwell Awards. Coan is now in the running for the Manning Award, which is given to the best college quarterback every season by the Sugar Bowl Committee.

On Thursday afternoon, Jack Coan was named to his third preseason watch list in addition to the watch lists for the Davey O’Brien and Maxwell Awards. Coan is now in the running for the Manning Award, which is given to the best college quarterback every season by the Sugar Bowl Committee.

The Manning Award is unique because it is the only award for quarterbacks that considers the postseason and bowl play of candidates. The previous winner was Heisman Winner and National Champion Joe Burrow, who played outstandingly in the postseason last year.

As Jack Coan continues to add awards that he is under consideration for, expectations for the senior quarterback continue to rise. He played well last season in his first full year under center, but without Jonathan Taylor, Coan will have to become the leader of this Wisconsin offense.

Justin Fields on Manning Award 2020 preseason watch list

Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields has been named on the Manning Award’s 2020 preseason watch list, as announced on Friday.

Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields has made his way onto another college football preseason award watch list. He has already appeared on the Davey O’Brien and Maxwell Award lists, and now his name is also included in relation to the Manning Award.

The Manning Award, named after father and sons quarterback trio Archie, Peyton, and Eli Manning, has been in place since 2004 and is awarded to college football’s best quarterback annually. Unlike other awards though, it actually takes into account bowl game performances (a novel idea).

You know what kind of playmaker Fields is by now. He should be on the shortlist to take home the honor as long as there’s a season, as long as he stays healthy, and as long as he has the year we all expect.
