Broncos’ updated 17-player practice squad after flurry of roster moves

Here’s a look at the Broncos’ updated 17-player practice squad following a flurry of roster moves this week.

The Denver Broncos made a flurry of roster moves this week, including seven changes to the practice squad.

First, the Broncos promoted inside linebacker Levelle Bailey from the practice squad to the active roster. To fill Bailey’s former spot, Denver signed wide receiver A.T. Perry.

The Broncos also signed offensive tackle Cam Fleming, center Dieter Eiselen and wide receiver Kaden Davis to the practice squad. To make room for those three players, Denver released running back Salvon Ahmed and defensive back Quinton Newsome and placed offensive tackle Will Sherman on the practice squad/injured list.

The 17-player practice squad and 53-man roster are now both full.

The NFL’s standard practice squad size limit is 16 players, but there’s an exception that allows an extra international player to not count against the limit. For Denver, Australian tight end Thomas Yassmin is an exception, giving the Broncos a 17-player practice squad.

So here’s the full list of 17 players on the squad after the recent moves.

  2. WR David Sills
  3. WR Kaden Davis
  4. WR A.T. Perry

  13. OLB Andrew Farmer

Broncos officially sign wide receiver to practice squad

The Broncos officially signed wide receiver A.T. Perry to their practice squad on Wednesday.

The Denver Broncos officially signed wide receiver A.T. Perry to their practice squad on Wednesday, coach Sean Payton announced after practice.

Perry is a former New Orleans Saints player who was cut last week. He was sidelined for the first five games of the season with hand and hamstring injuries but is now healthy.

Sean Payton was coaching in Denver when the Saints used a sixth-round draft pick to select Perry in last year’s draft, but Broncos VP of Player Personnel Cody Rager was part of New Orleans’ front office when they drafted Perry.

Pete Carmichael, a senior offensive assistant in Denver, also served as the Saints’ offensive coordinator last season. So while Payton does not have past experience coaching Perry, members of Payton’s staff are certainly familiar with the wide receiver.

The Broncos had room for Perry on the practice squad after promoting linebacker Levelle Bailey to the active roster on Tuesday.

Perry (6-5, 205 pounds) hauled in 12 receptions for 246 yards and four touchdowns in 10 games (three starts) with the Saints last fall. The 24-year-old receiver played college football at Wake Forest.

Broncos promote linebacker to 53-man roster

The Broncos promoted linebacker Levelle Bailey from the practice squad to the 53-man roster on Tuesday.

The Denver Broncos promoted linebacker Levelle Bailey from the practice squad to their 53-man roster on Tuesday. Denver had an open spot available for Bailey on the active roster after placing running back Tyler Badie (back) on injured reserve last week.

Bailey (6-2, 225 pounds) signed with the team as an undrafted free agent out of Fresno State this spring. After the team lost Alex Singleton to a season-ending torn ACL, Bailey was elevated from the practice squad to the game-day roster in each of the last two weeks.

Bailey has now been fully promoted to the 53-man roster. He played 14 snaps on special teams in Week 5 and 10 snaps on special teams in Week 4. Bailey will serve as Denver’s fourth inside linebacker behind starters Cody Barton and Justin Strnad and primary backup Kristian Welch.

Bailey, 23, will likely continue to contribute on special teams while providing depth on defense. The Broncos still have veteran linebackers Kwon Alexander and Zach Cunningham on their practice squad.

Broncos elevate linebacker from practice squad for Week 5

The Broncos elevated LB Levelle Bailey from the practice squad to the game-day roster for Week 5.

The Denver Broncos have elevated one player from the practice squad to the game-day roster for their Week 5 showdown with the Las Vegas Raiders.

The Broncos called up inside linebacker Levelle Bailey to provide more depth at the position after losing Alex Singleton to a season-ending ACL tear in Week 3. Bailey will revert back to the practice squad on Monday.

Players can be elevated up to three times during the season without having to clear waivers to return to the practice squad. This marks Bailey’s second elevation of the season.

Denver also placed running back Tyler Badie (back) on injured reserve on Saturday, ruling him out for at least the next four games. The team has not yet filled Badie’s former spot on the active roster.

Sunday’s game will be regionally televised on Fox and in-market fans can stream the game on fuboTV (try it free). The Broncos are considered favorites at home this week.
