4 things to watch in Chargers vs. Chiefs

Here are a few storylines to track in the game between the Chargers and Chiefs..

Los Angeles mercifully ends their season on Sunday afternoon, matching up with a Chiefs team locked into the No. 3 seed in the AFC playoffs. Blaine Gabbert will start for Kansas City, his first start since 2018.

Here are a few storylines to track in the game.

Chargers sign 12 players to 2023 practice squad

The Los Angeles Chargers announced 12 players that will begin the 2023 season on the practice squad.

The Los Angeles Chargers began announcing members of their practice squad on Wednesday, signing the following players:

EDGE Brevin Allen

RT Zack Bailey

WR Terrell Bynum

DT Jerrod Clark

DT Christian Covington

QB Max Duggan

WR Keelan Doss

EDGE Andrew Farmer

CB Matt Hankins

TE Hunter Kampmoyer

DT CJ Okoye (IPP)

G/T Austen Pleasants

Teams can have up to 16 players on their practice squad, but for the Bolts, they can have up to 17 players because they have an exemption to add Okoye as an extra player through the International Player Pathway Program.

Therefore, five more players will be added to round out the group.

Stay tuned for more information.

Projecting the Chargers’ 17-man practice squad

The Chargers can start constructing their practice squad on Wednesday. Here is who we think will make it.

The Chargers trimmed their roster to 53 on Tuesday, but the work in building the roster is not yet done. More moves will come before the opening of the season, beginning with the construction of LA’s practice squad on Wednesday afternoon.

While the NFL has a limit of 16 players on the practice squad, Los Angeles has an exemption to add defensive lineman CJ Okoye as a 17th player through the International Player Pathway Program. For that reason, this projection includes 17 players.

Chargers roster bubble: Which players helped their cause in Week 1

The Chargers’ win over the Rams in Week 1 of the preseason had standout performances from bubble breakouts trying to make the roster.

The Chargers’ 34-17 win over the Rams in Week 1 of the preseason had several standout performances from bubble breakouts trying to make the roster.

There’s still a long way to go for the players toward the end of the roster in this preseason process, but the Rams game could serve as a springboard for some of them.

Which undrafted free agents have decent chances to make the Chargers 53-man roster in 2023?

The Chargers added seven new members throughout the 2023 NFL draft. Following the event, they notched an additional 18 undrafted free agents who will all be fighting for a spot.

15 late-round prospects Broncos could target in 2023 NFL draft

Here’s a quick look at 15 late-round prospects the Broncos could target in the 2023 NFL draft.

The Denver Broncos do not have first- or second-round picks to use in the 2023 NFL draft, so in order to have a great class (barring a trade up), general manager George Paton will have to find gems in the mid and late rounds of the draft.

The Broncos currently have five draft picks: Nos. 67 and 68 overall in the third round, No. 108 in the fourth, No. 139 in the fifth and No. 195 in the sixth. Denver does not currently hold a pick in the seventh round, but the club might acquire additional picks through draft-day trades.

Paton has made six trades through his first two drafts with the Broncos, trading down four times. It wouldn’t be surprising to see him trade down again this year to add more picks.

Today, we’re taking a quick look at 15 prospects that Denver could target in the fifth, sixth and seventh (late rounds) of the 2023 NFL draft.

Broncos met with OLB Andrew Farmer at the Hula Bowl

The #Broncos met with Division II pass rusher Andrew Farmer at the Hula Bowl earlier this offseason.

The Denver Broncos spent “considerable time” with Lane College (DII) pass rusher Andrew Farmer at the Hula Bowl in January, according to Justin Melo of The Draft Network.

Farmer (6-3, 252 pounds) stood out at the HBCU Legacy Bowl combine in February, running a 40-yard dash in 4.72 seconds before logging a 38-inch vertical. After that, Farmer was selected by the Michigan Panthers in the USFL draft.

The 2023 USFL season will begin on April 15, two weeks before this year’s NFL draft. It remains to be seen if Farmer will opt to play in the USFL or wait for a possible chance with an NFL team later this spring.

After totaling 114 tackles and 17.5 sacks in his final two seasons with the Dragons, Farmer is expected to be a late-round prospect or undrafted free agent candidate for NFL teams next month.

If he joins the Broncos, Farmer would likely play as an outside linebacker in the team’s base 3-4 defense.

The NFL draft will be held in Kansas City from April 27-29.

Farmer ran a 4.72 40-yard dash at 6-foot-3 and 250 pounds with a 38-inch vertical jump. It’ll be interesting to see if he makes a draft class, signs as a UDFA, or plays in the USFL. The Browns are turning over every stone to get better.
