Dolphins elevate OT Larnel Coleman and WR River Cracraft for Week 2

This may be a positive sign for Terron Armstead’s status.

Following the news of right tackle Austin Jackson being placed on injured reserve, the Miami Dolphins have elevated two players in preparation for Sunday’s game against the Baltimore Ravens.

The team announced that offensive tackle Larnel Coleman and River Cracraft will be available for the contest.

With Jackson’s injury, Greg Little is expected to play right tackle, but left tackle Terron Armstead has also been dealing with an injury. Miami was going to have to call up at least one offensive tackle just for depth, but if they had also elevated Kion Smith or Brandon Shell, that likely would’ve meant that Armstead was more likely to not play.

Cracraft was elevated for their Week 1 matchup against the New England Patriots as well, leaving rookie wideout Erik Ezukanma as a healthy scratch. He played 10 offensive snaps and four on special teams, but he wasn’t targeted at all.

Report: Dolphins cut OT Larnel Coleman

The offensive line picture is becoming a lot more clear.

As all 32 teams are making their cuts to trim their rosters down to 53 players by the 4 p.m. ET deadline on Tuesday, the Miami Dolphins are working on their moves.

According to the Miami Herald’s Barry Jackson, the Dolphins have cut offensive tackle Larnel Coleman. Coleman was drafted by Miami in the seventh round of the 2021 draft out of UMass, but he missed all of his rookie season due to an injury.

He had an opportunity this preseason to become the team’s primary backup tackle, but he didn’t fare well in the games, and with Greg Little’s play when he returned, this seemed like a forgone conclusion.

Be sure to keep up with all of Miami’s roster moves via the cutdown tracker.

2022 Dolphins positional preview: The offensive line is improved, but there are still questions

There are still two questionable spots.

The 2021 edition of the Miami Dolphins got one of the worst offensive line performances among all of the teams in the NFL.

Between inexperienced coaches and poor effort, the line wasn’t able to protect quarterback Tua Tagovailoa or get any push for the team’s running game. As a result, the offense struggled to string drives together, keeping them from a postseason birth for the fifth straight season.

With the Dolphins ready to hit the field for training camp near the end of the month, it’s as good of a time as any to assess the roster. We’ve touched on quarterbacks, running backs, wide receivers and tight ends, so, today, we’re focusing on the big men up front.

Grading the Dolphins 2021 rookie class after their first year

Overall, the rookies were solid this year.

The Miami Dolphins finished their 2021 season with a 9-8 record and just outside of the postseason for the second straight year.

While a lot of the attention since then has been on ownership and the front office with the firing of Brian Flores, and rightfully so, there still needs to be some reflection about the play of the guys on the field.

We’ll be going through different positions over the next week or so and reviewing how they played in 2021, but we’re starting with the young guys. These are the grades for the Dolphins rookies after their first season in the NFL.

Miami Dolphins announcing signing of two from 2021 rookie class

Miami Dolphins announcing signing of two from 2021 rookie class

One of the perks of the NFL’s rookie wage scale is that it takes much of the opportunity for difficult negotiations out of getting new draft selections under contract. The Miami Dolphins are now among a handful of teams across the NFL that have gained traction on getting their 2021 rookie class under contract thanks to the minimized wiggle room — officially signing two members of their 2021 group.

The two Dolphins to sign on the dotted line are the team’s two 7th-round selections, OT Larnel Coleman and RB Gerrid Doaks. And along with those draft selections, the team has officially signed four prospects from the 2021 draft cycle to go undrafted:

  • CB Jaytlin Askew
  • DL Jerome Johnson
  • IOL Robert Jones
  • TE/FB Carl Tucker

The team announced the signings on social media yesterday afternoon.

Signing draft selections from the later rounds is usually more straight forward — but there are a handful of top choices across the league that are beginning to come to terms with their teams and signing contracts. Tennessee Titans 1st-round selection Caleb Farley is among them.

Miami will have plenty of time to secure their own top choices and have five remaining unsigned members of their 2021 class:

  • WR Jaylen Waddle (No. 6 overall)
  • EDGE Jaelan Phillips (No. 18 overall)
  • SAF Jevon Holland (No. 36 overall)
  • OL Liam Eichenberg (No. 42 overall)
  • TE Hunter Long (No. 81 overall)

8 potential Day 3 offensive prospects for Cardinals

Day 3 is not the most looked forward to part of the draft, but it is important to team building.

Day 3 is not the most exciting part of the NFL draft, but it is important to teams, as there are many diamonds in the rough to find, along with potential starters and key backups.

Last year, the Arizona Cardinals drafted defensive linemen Rahsard Lawrence and Leki Fotu, linebacker Evan Weaver and running back Eno Benjamin

Who might be on their radar this week on Saturday for rounds 4-7?

Below are eight offensive players to know for the Cardinals who would fit well in their offense.

OT prospects for Colts in each round of 2021 draft

Which OT prospects should the Colts consider?

The Indianapolis Colts will be entering the 2021 NFL draft looking to find a replacement for longtime left tackle Anthony Castonzo, who announced his retirement after 10 seasons following the 2020 campaign.

Though the Colts will toy with the idea of moving either Quenton Nelson or Braden Smith to left tackle, there is a strong chance they use one of their picks in first or second round at the position. This draft class boasts a deep group, many of which will have the attention of the Colts.

In free agency, the Colts made some small moves at offensive tackle. They signed Julién Davenport and Sam Tevi to the roster on one-year deals, which likely sets up the competition for the swing tackle spot on the depth chart.

We have also taken a look at wide receivers and edge rushers in each round for the Colts ahead of the draft.

Now, let’s take a look at offensive tackle prospects in each round of the 2021 draft for Indy:

Report: Jags have met with Massachusetts OT Larnel Coleman

The two-time All-Independent Second Team selection has reportedly met with Jacksonville.

With the 2021 NFL draft less than three weeks away, teams are fully in the swing of pre-draft meetings with prospects. Last week ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported that the Jags had plans to meet with Florida receiver Kadarius Toney, bringing the Jags’ total to 18 known meetings on our tracker.

On Monday, that number increased again as another meeting was reported. According to a report from Justin Melo of The Draft Network, the Jaguars are one of more than 15 teams that have met with Massachusetts offensive tackle Larnel Coleman,.

As Melo mentioned, Coleman is a lengthy tackle that stands at 6-foot-6 and has good size at 315 pounds. A two-time All-Independent Second-Team selection according to Phil Steele, Coleman started every game his final three seasons with the Minutemen.

He started at right tackle during his redshirt sophomore season in 2018 before moving to the left side for the last two seasons. In an interview with NFL Draft Diamonds, Coleman said he feels comfortable playing either of the tackle spots and even seeing time at guard, if necessary.

“As far as schemes, I can be adaptable,” he said. “I feel like I can work in about any scheme. I’ve started at both LT and RT during my time at UMass. However, I am not opposed to playing guard.”

Given Coleman’s size, though, he likely projects as a tackle at the next level. He’s considered a late Day 3 prospect, as Josh Edwards’ mock draft for CBS Sports shows him going in the sixth round. If Jacksonville doesn’t address the tackle spot earlier in the draft, Coleman could be a nice depth pickup on Saturday.
