Former MSU Football center Brian Allen first NFL player diagnosed with COVID-19

Former Michigan State Football center Brian Allen is the first NFL player diagnosed with Coronavirus.

The first NFL player has been diagnosed with COVID-19 and it is, unfortunately, a former Michigan State Spartan. Brian Allen, now playing for the Los Angeles Rams, was reported to have been diagnosed with the illness by Jay Glazer of FOX.

Brian played for Michigan State from 2014-2017 and was a four-year letter winner. He started in 28 consecutive games to finish his career at MSU before heading to the NFL, where he was drafted in the fourth round by the Los Angeles Rams.

Brian’s brother Jack also played for Michigan State before heading to the NFL where he played until 2018. Their brother Matt will be entering his fourth season at Michigan State this year.

Here is Jay Glazer’s announcement of Brian Allen’s COVID-19 diagnosis:

Todd Gurley to LA Rams: ‘Send me money ASAP’

Former Georgia football & current Atlanta Falcons RB Todd Gurley tells the LA Rams to send him the money they owe him after being cut.

In 2018, the Los Angeles Rams signed their former running back Todd Gurley to a 4-year contract extension that was worth $60 million ($45 million guaranteed). At the time this was the largest running back average annual salary and guaranteed money in NFL history.

Gurley signed the deal coming off a season where he finished 2nd in MVP voting. Unfortunately, the Rams saw concerns with the state of Gurley’s knee and made the decision to release him, taking a $20.15 million sunk cost.

Gurley tweeted at the Rams on Wednesday asking for them to pay him the money he is owed.

He spent five seasons with the Rams, helping them reach their first Super Bowl appearance in 17 years where they fell short to Tom Brady and the New England Patriots.

Obviously Gurley understands the business side to the decision, but it seems he isn’t pleased with how the Rams are doing business with him right now.

Gurley signed with the Atlanta Falcons the day after getting released, the deal getting him $3.5 million guaranteed along with $500,000 in incentives.  He will get that incentive if he either rushes for 1,000 yards or scored 13 touchdowns.

Falcon’s GM comfortable with former Georgia star Todd Gurley’s knee injuries

Atlanta Falcons GM Thomas Dimitroff talks about newly signed former Georgia football running back Todd Gurley’s knee injuries.

Atlanta Falcons beat reporter Kelsey Conway recently spoke to the franchise’s general manager Thomas Dimitroff about newly signed running back Todd Gurley.

The former Georgia Bulldog recently signed a one-year contract worth $6m with the Falcons after being released earlier this year by the L.A. Rams.

Gurley was a two-time All-Pro in L.A. but after issues with arthritis in his previously injured left-knee, the team decided to move on from the 24-year old.

Unlike the Rams, the Falcons do not seem to be worried about Gurley’s injury history.

Dimitroff said:

He really takes care of his body well. We feel very comfortable with it. He’s a hard-charging runner and we’re counting on him being an excellent player for us.

Gurley being on just a one-year deal creates an easy out for Atlanta if he can’t meet expectations in 2020, but Falcons and UGA fans hope the Bulldog great can bounce back with a great season for Atlanta.

Todd Gurley to Rams on Instagram: “thanks for the check today”

After his contract with Atlanta was announced, the former Bulldog standout provided parting words to the organization that drafted him.

Since a somewhat surprising release from the Los Angeles Rams, Todd Gurley has committed to a one-year deal with the Atlanta Falcons.

Following a move that delights a large number of local Dawgs and Dirty Birds, the Georgia Bulldog alumnus will wear red and black in Georgia for at least one more season.

Gurley took the news in stride on Thursday, playfully tweeting about having been fired on his day off. He agreed to terms with Atlanta the following morning.

After his contract with Atlanta was announced, the former Bulldog standout provided parting words to the organization that drafted him.

Cameron DaSilva of Rams Wire first reported Gurley’s expert session in subtle pettiness.

Georgia faithful took to Twitter following his release with asserting that Gurley would be a great fit for the Falcons, who recently released tailback Devonta Freeman.

The next day, football fans who exist in the middle of the Falcons-Bulldogs Venn diagram got their wishes fulfilled.

Tracking UGA football in NFL Free Agency

Todd Gurley, Leonard Floyd, and Thomas Davis are among many Georgia Bulldogs in NFL Free Agency.

NFL Free Agency is especially unpredictable this off-season. Numerous Georgia Bulldogs are headlining some shocking moves.

In a surprising move, the Los Angeles Rams have released Todd Gurley. Gurley would fit in with the Atlanta Falcons, Kansas City Chiefs, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and more. He was the engine of Los Angeles’s Super Bowl offense in 2018.

The Chicago Bears have released outside linebacker Leonard Floyd. Floyd signed a one year deal with the Los Angeles Rams. Chicago originally selected Floyd with a first round pick in the 2016 NFL Draft.

New York Jets outside linebacker Jordan Jenkins is in for a massive raise. New York, who has minimal pass rushing opinions, will have to pay their 2019 sack leader to coax him to stay.

The Cincinnati Bengals placed a franchise tag on wide receiver A.J. Green. The  tag prevents Green from entering NFL Free Agency. Will he sign the tag with Cincinnati and pair up with projected number one overall pick Joe Burrow or hold out?

The  Bengals have released offensive tackle Cordy Glenn. Glenn, a second round pick out of the University of Georgia, is a free agent. At 30, Glenn will have a market among teams looking to upgrade their pass-blocking.

Recently released former New York Giants linebacker Alec Ogletree is seeking a new home. At 28 years old, Ogletree is still productive. He has the speed necessary to be a linebacker in the modern NFL.

Sean McVay: Todd Gurley’s ‘one of the all-time great Rams’

LA Rams HC Sean McVay called former Georgia football RB Todd Gurley one of the all-time greats in the history of the franchise.

Todd Gurley was once the best offensive player in the National Football League.

Sadly, an injured knee prevented him from holding onto that title, but there’s no doubt that he still has what it takes to be an elite ball carrier in the league.

The way that Rams head coach Sean McVay publicly handled Gurley’s knee injury has been one of the most criticized stories since Los Angeles’ Super Bowl loss to New England.

McVay would routinely tell the media that Gurley’s knee was fine and that they were limiting his touches for reasons. Nobody bought that story.

As frustrating as it was for fans to watch Gurley take less and less snaps, McVay surely did not like it either. How could he? You have the best running  back in the NFL on your roster and you can’t play him as much as you’d like to – yeah, McVay definitely was not a fan of that.

McVay spoke on Gurley’s tenure with the Rams shortly after the 25 year old was released by the franchise.

“I would like to thank Todd for his many contributions to the Rams, on and off the field, since I have been here,” McVay said. “He has meant a lot to my growth as a coach and leader and he will always be remembered as one of the all-time great Rams. I wish him nothing but the best.”

Gurley ranks sixth all-time in Rams history with 5,404 career rushing yards and his 58 rushing touchdowns ranks second.

Rams GM Les Snead, who drafted Gurley in 2015, also spoke on Thursday.

“When we drafted Todd in 2015, we knew he was going to be a one-of-a-kind talent that would create special moments on the football field for us,” Snead said. “Todd did this by becoming one of the greatest competitors in this league, but more than that, he served as a great teammate to his fellow players and ambassador for our organization, and those traits speak volumes to who he is as a human being.”

Los Angeles Rams release RB Todd Gurley

The Los Angeles Rams are releasing former Georgia Bulldog running back Todd Gurley. L.A. sought trades for Gurley, but couldn’t find one.

Todd Gurley is one the best running backs in the National Football League when healthy. Unfortunately for the Georgia Bulldog great, that pesky knee of Gurley’s has caused him issues, hindering his production and limiting his workload. In 2019, Gurley had career-lows in rushing yards (857) and attempts (223).

Now, the Los Angeles Rams are releasing Todd Gurley, their former first round pick. The official Rams Twitter account and ESPN’s Adam Schefter announced the news:

L.A. will save $10.5 million against the cap. The Rams failed to find a trade destination and now Gurley will be a free agent for the first time in his NFL career.

Gurley was two years into a contract with the Los Angeles Rams that included a $21 million signing bonus and $45 million in guarantees. With reduced production and a substantial contract, it is not shocking that the Rams looked to trade RB Todd Gurley according to Michael Silver:

A year after making the Super Bowl, Los Angeles foundered to a 9-7 record. Head coach Sean McVay and the Rams are looking to improve, but they had to get creative since they have limited draft capital and cap room.

According to Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network, Gurley, since he’s been cut, will count for $20.15 million in dead money. The Rams are hampered for the future and were banking on Gurley. Hopefully, Gurley can return to form in time for the 2020 season.
