Former Georgia Bulldog, New York Giants OT Andrew Thomas looks healthy following ankle surgery

Looks like Andrew Thomas is moving well following ankle surgery…

Former Georgia star offensive tackle Andrew Thomas underwent ankle surgery this year following the New York Giants’ 2021 season.

The surgery was the second attempt to help repair an issue that nagged Thomas for his first two seasons.

The No. 4 overall pick in 2020, Thomas was named to Pro Football Focus’ list of the Top 101 Players of 2021 after a big year-two in New York.

Here’s a look at Thomas in a workout with 2022 Georgia NFL draftee Justin Shaffer.

Rest easy Giants fans, it looks like Thomas’ ankle is holding up nicely.

New York Giants cut former Georgia OL

The New York Giants have cut former standout Georgia Bulldogs offensive lineman Isaiah Wilson.

The New York Giants have cut former standout Georgia Bulldogs offensive lineman Isaiah Wilson. Wilson was on New York’s practice squad. Wilson, a former first-round pick, is finishing his second season in the NFL.

Wilson played alongside several former Georgia Bulldog teammates in New York including: Lorenzo Carter, Jake Fromm, Azeez Ojulari, Andrew Thomas, and Tae Crowder.

Isaiah Wilson began his career with the Tennessee Titans, but off-the-field issues caused the Titans to trade Wilson to the Miami Dolphins. Later, Miami released Wilson.

Isaiah Wilson still has a lot of talent. He was the No. 29 selection of the 2020 NFL draft, but Wilson must be more consistent if he wants to excel in the NFL.

The Giants signed Isaiah Wilson to their practice squad on Sept. 29. The NFL is allowing larger practice squads this season. New York has issues along their offensive line and a large support system for Wilson, so it made sense to bring in the former first-round pick.

Watch: Jake Fromm makes NFL debut

Former Georgia Bulldogs quarterback Jake Fromm made his NFL debut for the New York Giants.

Former Georgia Bulldogs quarterback Jake Fromm made his NFL debut for the New York Giants.

Fromm’s debut came in a 21-6 loss to the Dallas Cowboys, but Fromm was the more impressive of New York’s two quarterbacks on the day. Fromm completed six of 12 passes for 82 yards. Starter Mike Glennon had a rough outing. Glennon completed 13 of 24 passes for 99 yards and threw three interceptions.

New York gave Fromm an opportunity late in the fourth quarter. Fromm’s best throw of the day was a long pass to wide receiver Kenny Golladay:

Fromm has been with the Giants for under a month, so it is tough for him to know the playbook as well as longtime backup Mike Glennon.

The Giants could want to get a better look at Fromm. Glennon (32) is older than Fromm (23). New York is 4-10 and does not have much left to play for.

Buffalo originally drafted Fromm with a fifth-round pick in the 2020 NFL draft, but the Giants signed him off the Bills’ practice squad earlier this month.

Fromm had never thrown a regular-season pass before his debut against the Cowboys.

The New York Giants have signed former Buffalo Bills practice squad quarterback Jake Fromm to their active roster.

The New York Giants have signed former Buffalo Bills practice squad quarterback Jake Fromm to their active roster. Fromm is anticipated to serve as the backup for the Giants.

Jake Fromm joins some of his former Georgia Bulldog teammates like Andrew Thomas, Tae Crowder, and Azeez Ojulari in New York.

The Giants are expecting to start quarterback Mike Glennon this week. Daniel Jones, New York’s normal starter, suffered a strained neck in the Giants’ 13-7 win over Philadelphia. Jones could miss multiple weeks.

The Buffalo Bills originally drafted Jake Fromm in the fifth round of the 2020 NFL draft. Fromm has spent this season on the Bills’ practice squad.

The quarterback-needy Giants will now have an experienced (mostly from his time at Georgia) backup while Daniel Jones is out.

Watch: Former Georgia OT Andrew Thomas scores leaping NFL TD

Big man TD!

Georgia football is well represented in the NFL with over 30 former Bulldogs currently on league rosters.

Perhaps the highlight of the week from UGA alumni in the NFL came from former left tackle and 2020 No. 4 overall pick, Andrew Thomas.

That is Thomas’ first NFL touchdown of his career. Many lineman never get a chance to touch the ball, and here, the Georgia native gets a score in only his second season.

Kind of reminds me of a certain Georgia defensive tackle’s experience this past Saturday.

Georgia big men are getting it done.

Former Georgia Bulldog gets new NFL opportunity

Former standout Georgia Bulldog offensive lineman Isaiah Wilson is getting another NFL opportunity with the New York Giants.

Former standout Georgia Bulldog offensive lineman Isaiah Wilson is getting another NFL opportunity with the New York Giants. Wilson, a former first-round pick, is entering his second season in the NFL.

Isaiah Wilson began his career with the Tennessee Titans, but off-the-field issues caused the Titans to trade Wilson to the Miami Dolphins. Later, Miami released Wilson.

Now, Wilson will look to lean on former Georgia Bulldog teammates in New York. Wilson should have a significant support system with the Giants, who have four of Wilson’s former UGA teammates: Lorenzo Carter, Azeez Ojulari, Andrew Thomas, and Tae Crowder.

Isaiah Wilson still has a lot of talent. He was the No. 29 selection of the 2020 NFL draft, but Wilson must balance his life better like he did at Georgia.

The Giants signed Isaiah Wilson to their practice squad on Sept. 29. The NFL is allowing larger practice squads in 2021 and New York has issues along their offensive line, so it makes sense to bring in Wilson.

Former Texas WR Collin Johnson was claimed by the New York Giants

After being cut by the Jacksonville Jaguars, wide receiver Collin Johnson found a new home when he was claimed by the New York Giants.

A fifth round pick in the 2020 NFL draft, Collin Johnson was one of five receiver casualties for the Jacksonville Jaguars on Aug. 31 as head coach Urban Meyer decided to not retain the former Longhorn.

It was somewhat of a surprise to see his name among the final cuts for Jacksonville, but it did not take long for the former Texas standout to find a new home. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that the New York Giants claimed the 6-foot-6 receiver off waivers on Wednesday.

The Jaguars had a pretty crowded receiver room, and after their signing of Marvin Jones Jr. it made it that much more difficult for the rest of the receivers to find a role.

Johnson saw limited playing time in his rookie season, catching 18 passes for 272 yards and two touchdowns. He was hoping to obtain a larger role this season with the new staff. However, he did not really have many chances during preseason. Johnson was only targeted a total of five times in three games, bringing in two receptions for 24 yards and one touchdown overall.

The Giants receiver room has been injury depleted as of late, giving Johnson a second chance at life in the NFL. New York currently has four receivers on the roster listed as questionable, and also have some unproven former high draft picks in Dante Pettis and John Ross.

Johnson has an opportunity to fight a role in New York’s offense immediately.

Former Georgia Bulldog LB out for season for New York Giants

Former UGA linebacker Lorenzo Carter is out for the season for the New York Giants with an Achilles injury.

[jwplayer HulWqnGt]

Former University of Georgia linebacker Lorenzo Carter is out for the season. Carter, who plays for the New York Giants, suffered a torn Achilles Sunday afternoon against the Dallas Cowboys.

The Giants are 0-5 to start the season and it is a tough blow to lose one of their better pass-rushing linebackers to injury. Carter will have Achilles surgery to repair the injury. The Achilles surgery is one of the toughest recoveries for an athlete to undergo. Best of luck to Lorenzo Carter in the process.

Carter played for the Georgia Bulldogs from 2014-2017. The New York Giants selected him in the third round of the 2018 NFL Draft. Carter had one sack on the season for New York. He’s started 19 games over his three year NFL career and has 9.5 career sacks.

The New York Giants reported the unfortunate news via their official Twitter account:

Lorenzo Carter’s injury adds more adversity to the slate for the Giants. New York is already missing Saquan Barkley for the season.

Jets sign former Giants, UGA LB to practice squad

The New York Jets have signed former New York Giants and Los Angeles Rams linebacker Alec Ogletree to their practice squad

The New York Jets have signed former New York Giants and Los Angeles Rams linebacker Alec Ogletree to their practice squad. Ogletree, an NFL veteran, is a former Georgia Bulldog standout.

The New York Giants released Ogletree earlier this offseason and he was a free agent until the Jets signed him to their practice squad. Ogletree will be a talented member of the New York practice squad and it would be surprising if he isn’t promoted to the active roster at some point during the season.

Alec Ogletree has previous experience playing under New York Jets defensive coordinator Gregg Williams from his time with the Los Angeles Rams. Ogletree has seven years of NFL experience including 93 starts.

Throughout his career, Ogletree has recorded 12 interceptions, 12 forced fumbles, 7.5 sacks, and 676 total tackles. He’s an impact player at the NFL level, but fans shouldn’t expect him to play immediately, since he is starting on the practice squad. During a normal season, Ogletree wouldn’t have been practice squad eligible.

New York Giants to release former Georgia Bulldog DB

Former Georgia Bulldog defensive back Deandre Baker is set to be released. Baker was a first-round pick for the New York Giants in 2019.

Former Georgia Bulldog defensive back Deandre Baker is set to be released. Baker was a first-round pick for the New York Giants in 2019. Now, the Giants are looking to cut ties with the 2018 Jim Thorpe Award winner.

Earlier this offseason Baker was accused of armed robbery and aggravated assault with a firearm. With his mounting legal troubles, the New York Giants are moving on from him.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport first reported the news in what has been a troubling year for Deandre Baker:

We’ll keep you updated on the status former UGA corner Deandre Baker. It will be unlikely that he’ll have any suitors as a free agent due to his pending legal issues and his status on the Commissioner’s Exempt List.

Baker’s release is yet to be official, but it is imminent. The Giants have given away Baker’s No. 27 jersey to corner Isaac Yiadom.

The selection of Baker is proving to be a costly one for New York Giants General Manager Dave Gettleman, who may be on the hot seat soon.
