Tegra Tshabola locked in as Buckeye, will no longer visit Kentucky

Ohio State 2022 commitment Tegra Tshabola has reaffirmed his commitment to Ohio State and will no longer visit Kentucky.

The high-stakes game of big-time college football recruiting is here to stay it seems. Many of you may not remember these days, but it used to be that recruiting more or less happened behind the scenes unless something earth-shattering occurred. That’s clearly not the case today where everyone follows teenagers, and teenagers look to capitalize (and rightfully so) on their newfound fame.

Take the case of four-star Ohio State football verbal Tegra Tshabola. He has been committed to the Buckeyes since April of last year, but that seemed to be teetering a bit early this week. That’s because news surfaced that Tshabola was looking to take a visit to Kentucky because of some urging from his parents and academic questions.

Queue the smoke because there must be fire, right?

The Kentucky message boards lit up, infighting occurred on Twitter, and then people started making runs on gasoline (oh wait, wrong news item). The point is, it ended up being a bigger deal than what the world deserves these days. Okay, maybe not, after all, it is a brave new everything in the open universe we live in now.

But calm down folks. It now appears as though we can all stand down, stop the intravenous administration of energy drinks, and get some shut-eye. That’s because Tshabola came out and said he’s locked in as a Buckeye now and will no longer entertain visiting Kentucky.

OK. Now that we got that out of the way, in all honesty, this is pretty good news because Ohio State has lost a little momentum in the recruiting department, at least from a perception standpoint. The Buckeyes may have gotten two very underrated DBs to commit last week, but that doesn’t hit a home run in recruiting circles.

Georgia has caught the Buckeyes for the mythical top spot in the recruiting rankings, and OSU hasn’t landed a consensus four or five-star prospect since February. That seems like a long time when your measuring football practice facilities among friends.

OSU would really not like to deal with a defection to a kid that seems like about as hard of a commit to Ohio State as you can find.

We’ll keep our eyes on this, but right now, thankfully, there’s nothing to see. At least not any longer. Now, back to your regularly scheduled programming.

Four-star offensive tackle picks Kentucky over Ohio State, others

Late last week, four-star offensive tackle Kiyaunta Goodwin announced his commitment to the Kentucky Wildcats over Ohio State.

There aren’t too many football prospects that decide to play for the Kentucky Wildcats over what Ohio State and other big boys have going on right now, but that’s exactly what happened late last week when four-star offensive tackle Kiyaunta Goodwin committed to Kentucky over the likes of Ohio State, Alabama, and Clemson.

At 6-foot, 7-inches, and 300-pounds, Goodwin was ranked as the No. 7 offensive tackle and 54th overall prospect in the 2022 class according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings. It would have been a nice addition for the Buckeyes, but the writing seemed to be on the wall as of late that he was leaning towards the Wildcats.

But all is not lost. According to at least one report out there by Eleven Warriors, the OSU coaching staff still believes they have a shot to flip Goodwin back to considering Ohio State and will continue to recruit him. He is still planning on taking all of his official visits, and we’ve seen more than a few recruits change their minds when getting on campuses and suddenly falling in love with things they never saw coming.

Ohio State has pulled off more than its fair share of flips in that department as well, so stay tuned. For now, though, Goodwin is headed to the Bluegrass State.

Landers announced on Thursday morning that he’ll be deciding between the Spartans and Wildcats, with a commitment announcement to occur on May 9.

Landers — who plays for Dearborn Fordson High School — is rated as the No. 74 offensive tackle and No. 769 overall recruit in the class of 2022, according to 247Sports. Landers also has scholarship offers from Michigan, Oregon, Indiana, Cincinnati, Nebraska, West Virginia, Buffalo, Kent State and Toledo.

Landers is listed at 6-foot-5 and 300 pounds.

Right now, a majority of crystal ball projections on 247Sports have Landers picking Kentucky. We’ll know soon enough his decision.

Former MSU Football WR Tre’Von Morgan transfers to Kentucky

Former Michigan State wide receiver Tre’Von Morgan has announced that he will be transferring to the University of Kentucky.

[jwplayer mKgJ519R]

Redshirt freshman wide receiver Tre’Von Morgan announced he was transferring from the Michigan State program on January 3rd, and he has now found his new home. Morgan will be heading to the University of Kentucky, joining fellow former Spartan, Luke Fulton.

[vertical-gallery id=34943]

Morgan was a member of the 2019 recruiting class, rated as a high 3-star prospect. He now joins five other members of that recruiting class that have transferred from the program.

Morgan was a player that a lot of people saw huge potential in, standing at 6-foot-7 and having serious athleticism, it was something that raised an eyebrow. His potential will be missed, but if there is one position group filled with talent, it is the wide receivers.

Restaurants SEC bagmen would use according to football program

After Tennessee allegedly paid recruits with McDonald’s bags full of cash, we wanted to know which restaurant each SEC program would use.

Last week it was reported that Tennessee football recruits were offered monetary benefits sealed by way of McDonald’s bags. It was a scandal that took over social media by storm leaving many people to question, “why McDonald’s?”

I too questioned their thought process behind the use of a bag that smells like stale onions and grease, and is there any symbolism behind McDonald’s and their golden arches? Not really, there isn’t any semblance of connection there. Whoever the bagman was he probably just got caught up in the drive-thru line and forgot to get a proper envelope.

What if SEC bagmen used carry-out bags from restaurants who were established/are headquartered nearby? I did the research to find out which carry-out bag would match each school and boy, does the symbolism speak for itself here.

Former MSU LB Luke Fulton transferring to Kentucky

Former 4-star recruit Luke Fulton has entered his name in the transfer portal and has decided to transfer to Kentucky.

[jwplayer mSDA56Ej-PROpJzTY]

Luke Fulton was a member of Michigan State’s 2019 recruiting class. A highly touted 4-star out of Youngstown, Ohio, Spartan fans had high hopes that Fulton would be the next great linebacker in East Lansing.

Fulton was set to compete for one of the linebacker spots in 2020, but an off the field issue kept the redshirt freshman away from the team during training camp. Fulton never returned to the team and had entered his name in the transfer portal at the conclusion of the season.

Fulton is headed to the SEC and is the first outgoing transfer to land at a power five school. Kentucky was after the linebacker out of high school and have now got him.

Mel Tucker will look to fill his void through the transfer portal and upcoming recruiting classes.

Kentucky wins the TaxSlayer Gator Bowl

Final Score: Kentucky 23, NC State 21
CFN Prediction: NC State 27, Kentucky 23
Line: Kentucky -3, o/u:50.5

5. This TaxSlayer Gator Bowl has become a solidly under-appreciated bowl

It always seemed to get lost on New Year’s Day, and it’s always been a bit of a land of misfit teams, but the last two Gator Bowls have been decided by a grand total of three points.

Now, the games aren’t always pretty – more on that in a moment – but they’ve finished strong, including last year’s wild Tennessee finish over Indiana.

NC State got ripped up by Texas A&M in the 2018 version, but that’s three of the last four and six of the last nine decided by a touchdown or less. Now the ACC has to start winning these.

It’s been a disastrous bowl season in every way for the ACC with Miami’s D’Eriq King suffering a torn ACL, Clemson and Notre Dame getting trucked, and Wake Forest getting picked off again and again by Wisconsin.

This was one the conference could’ve had, but with the NC State loss, that makes it three loss in the last three appearances since Georgia Tech beat Kentucky in 2016.

NEXT: That was a war of attrition for the NC State lines
