Falcons re-sign DL Kentavius Street to one-year deal

The Falcons have re-signed defensive lineman Kentavius Street, the team announced on Monday

After several pieces on offense over the last week, the Atlanta Falcons have finally made their first defensive signing of the new league year. On Monday afternoon, the team re-signed defensive lineman Kentavius Street to a one-year deal.

The 27-year-old appeared in five games for the Falcons last season, recording 14 total tackles, one sack and one fumble recovery. Street was drafted in the fourth round of the 2018 NFL draft by the San Francisco 49ers.

After three years with the 49ers, Street spent one season with the New Orleans Saints in 2022.

Falcons rule out DL Kentavius Street vs. Panthers

The Falcons have ruled out DL Kentavius Street for Sunday’s game against the Panthers

The Atlanta Falcons (6-7) are expected to get several key players back from injury before this Sunday’s matchup against the Carolina Panthers (1-12). Head coach Arthur Smith sounded optimistic about the statuses of Jeff Okudah, Kaleb McGary and Nate Landman.

Defensive lineman Kentavius Street, who was having a good game against the Buccaneers before injuring his shoulder, won’t play in Week 15, per team reporter Terrin Waack. If defensive lineman David Onyemata can’t play Sunday, the Falcons defensive line could be undermanned yet again.

Check back following Wednesday’s practice for the team’s first official injury report of Week 15.

Falcons DL Kentavius Street exits game due to shoulder injury

INJURY UPDATE: Falcons DL Kentavius Street out for game due to shoulder injury

The injuries continue to pile up for the Atlanta Falcons (6-6) in their Week 14 matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (5-7).

After losing Jake Matthews and Mack Hollins, the Falcons have now lost defensive lineman Kentavius Street due to a shoulder injury, per team reporter Tori McElhaney.

Right guard Chris Lindstrom came out for a spell in the second quarter but has since returned. The Falcons entered the game without two starting offensive linemen and their top defensive tackle, so these injuries are coming at the worst possible time.

The Buccaneers currently hold a 19-10 lead over the Falcons in the third quarter.

Falcons trade for yet another former Saints player

The Falcons have traded for yet another former Saints player. If you can’t beat them, hire your GM and DC from them, and sign or trade for all their players:

If you can’t beat them, remake your team in their image. That must be the Atlanta Falcons’ takeaway after years of struggles to defeat the New Orleans Saints in the long-running NFC South rivalry. On Monday, the Falcons added yet another former Saints player: defensive lineman Kentavius Street.

The Philadelphia Eagles announced that they traded Street to Atlanta in exchange for a swap of late-round draft picks, and the move does make sense from the Falcons’ perspective. They just lost standout defensive tackle Grady Jarrett to a knee injury and Street can help soften the blow as an experienced player at the same position.

It sure helps that Street is surrounded by friendly faces. Falcons general manager Terry Fontenot traded for him after coming up in the Saints front office. He’ll be coached by Falcons defensive coordinator Ryan Nielsen, who made the jump to the NFL in New Orleans after coaching Street in college at North Carolina State. And Street will quite literally line up shoulder-to-shoulder with his former Saints teammates David Onyemata and Kaden Elliss, both of whom were signed by Atlanta this offseason.

Eagles trade Kentavius Street to Falcons for a 2024 sixth-round pick

Eagles trade Kentavius Street and 2025 7th-round pick to Falcons for 2024 sixth-round pick

The Eagles are moving on from Kentavius Street, trading the versatile defensive tackle to the Atlanta Falcons for a 2024 sixth-round pick.

Including in the deal with Street, Philadelphia is also sending Atlanta a seventh-round pick in 2025.

Street only played 17% of the Eagles’ defensive snaps this year and started falling behind Marlon Tuipulotu in the rotation.

Philadelphia has played primarily with a rotation that includes Fletcher Cox, rookie Jalen Carter, second-year star Jordan Davis, and Milton Williams, with Tuipulotu and others sprinkled in.

Street missed his entire rookie season but flashed terrific potential as a situational defensive tackle for the 49ers in 2021, recording three sacks, seven pressures, and six tackles for loss.

A versatile, 6’2″, 287-pound athlete, Street can play defensive tackle and edge rusher, and last season logged 3.5 sacks for New Orleans on almost 600 snaps.

He’ll now provide depth at defensive tackle for Atlanta after Grady Jarrett suffered a season-ending torn ACL.

Street, 27, has appeared in 60 games with five starts since being drafted in the fourth round of the 2019 NFL draft by the San Francisco 49ers. After spending three seasons with the 49ers, Street spent one season with the Saints in 2022.

The veteran defender has racked up 75 total tackles, 13 QB hits and 6.5 sacks over the last four and a half seasons. The Falcons just lost starting defensive lineman Grady Jarrett for the year and Street has experience with defensive coordinator Ryan Nielsen.
