5 prospects who make sense for Sixers if Nets defer 2022 draft pick

Here are 5 prospects that make sense for the Philadelphia 76ers if the Brooklyn Nets defer the 2022 first-round pick until 2023.

At the moment, the Philadelphia 76ers do not own their first-round draft pick in 2022 as it was sent to the Brooklyn Nets in the big James Harden deal back in February.

However, there is a chance that the Sixers can keep that pick if the Nets decide to defer the pick until 2023. They have until June 1 to make that decision and while there is no guarantee they do so, the Sixers are doing their due diligence as they have met with some potential draft prospects.

If the Nets do defer that pick back to the Sixers, Philadelphia would be selecting at No. 23 in the first round and there are some prospects who fit their need for athleticism off the bench and some depth at the wing spots. Especially, in the wake of the Danny Green injury where he could miss the entire 2022-23 season–although he is targeting a return around the All-Star break.

Here are five prospects that stand out in the No. 23 draft range:

2022 Draft Prospect and former Baylor guard Kendall Brown talks Thunder interview, potential fit

. @BSO ‘s @BasketballGuruD asked 2022 NBA draft prospect Kendall Brown about his interview with the Thunder and potential fit with team

Baylor guard Kendall Brown revealed during the 2022 NBA draft combine that he has interviewed — not worked out, not yet at least — with the Oklahoma City Thunder, per Black Sports Online’s Daniel Bell.

The Thunder continue to interview and workout with draft prospects as the team does its homework for the 2022 NBA draft, which will be held on June 23. The Thunder own the second, 12th, 30th and 34th overall picks.

Brown also spoke about the possibility of playing with Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Josh Giddey and Lu Dort and said that he’s definitely excited about the thought of playing with them as an off-ball threat.

“Those are great players. I can see myself moving without the ball and playing in transition wherever they have me at,” said Brown. “I feel like I can fit in.”

Brown spent his lone season at Baylor this past year, where he averaged 9.7 points, 4.9 rebounds and 1.9 assists on 58.4 percent shooting in 34 games. Brown is currently projected to go around the late first round to second round area, where the Thunder own two picks at with 30 and 34.

Baylor freshman Kendall Brown declares for 2022 NBA draft

Brown was named to the Big 12 All-Freshman Team after averaging 9.7 points, 4.9 rebounds, 1.9 assists and one steal.

Baylor freshman Kendall Brown on Wednesday told Shams Charania of The Athletic that he will declare for the 2022 NBA draft, forgoing his remaining collegiate eligibility.

Brown, who was named to the Big 12 All-Freshman Team, averaged 9.7 points, 4.9 rebounds, 1.9 assists and one steal in 34 games. He finished with three double-doubles and nearly registered a triple-double on Nov. 15 with 13 points, 10 assists and eight rebounds versus Nicholls State.

The 6-foot-8 forward is considered to be a mid-to-late first-round pick. He filled the highlight reels on a consistent basis this season with his elite athleticism. He is a constant lob threat around the rim and has emerged as a tremendous cutter for Baylor.

Brown has shown he can affect games on the defensive end and can guard nearly every position on the court, save for the 5. He hasn’t shown real confidence in his shot, attempting only 41 3-pointers, but still knocked down 34.1% of those looks.

He could be a candidate to participate in the draft combine or NBA G League Elite Camp in May and improve his stock. He will also have the opportunity to take part in private workouts with teams between now and the NBA draft on June 23.

Underclassmen have until April 24 to declare for the NBA draft.

The best prospects in the world are all competing for the top spot in the 2022 NBA draft and it is hard to sort how everyone is stacking up.

2022 NBA Mock Draft 2.0: Jabari Smith rising in latest projections of every pick

Auburn forward Jabari Smith Jr. highlighted the prospects on the rise in the latest Rookie Wire Mock Draft.

With the 2021-22 basketball season in full swing, scouts and front-office executives have had an extended look at the next wave of prospects set to enter the NBA.

Prior to the beginning of the season, Duke forward Paolo Banchero and Gonzaga center Chet Holmgren dominated the conversation atop most draft boards. However, the top of the draft looks to be changing with Auburn forward Jabari Smith Jr. emerging in a big way this season.

Rookie Wire took a look at the next rookie class and projected every pick based on the latest information at hand. Of course, with much of the season left to play, these rankings will change but here is how we see things at the moment.

Note: The order of the draft was pulled from Tankathon as of Jan. 19. The 2022 draft may only have 58 picks after the Bucks and Heat were stripped of their second-round picks by the NBA.
