Justin Jackson, Boston Celtics volunteer to help feed the chronically ill

“You don’t have to be an NBA player, you don’t have to be a celebrity” to help people, shared Jackson.

“Everybody can be great, because anybody can serve,” reads the Martin Luther King, Jr. quote on Boston Celtics reserve forward Justin Jackson’s shirt as he ladled food into containers Community Servings distributes to persons with chronic illness in southern New England recently.

“We go to our clients’ home once a week and bring them lunch, dinner, and a snack for five days delivered once a week,” Community Servings CEO David Waters said via Boston.com’s Khari Thompson of the mission Jackson and a cadre of other members of the Celtics organization were helping with as volunteers. “I know for me my whole goal in life is just to make this world a better place,” said Jackson of his participation.

“You don’t have to be an NBA player, you don’t have to be a celebrity to do that,” he explained. “Sometimes you just have to serve some people, love on some people, and care about them.”

Waters was appreciative of the team chipping in to help out, noting that “to have a member of the Celtics come today is a great way to reinforce to the community that we’re here and we need their help to make sure that no one goes hungry”

“How can you put into words what MLK did?” asked Jackson, referencing the quote on his shirt. “He brought so much awareness and started so much change that we’re still seeing today. Hopefully me and the rest of the guys on the team and in the city and in the world can keep that going”

Michael Brockers ruled out, Justin Jackson now questionable for Week 15

Michael Brockers ruled out, Justin Jackson now questionable for Week 15

The Detroit Lions issued an updated injury availability report on Saturday afternoon, and it was not good news for the depth. Michael Brockers has been ruled out of Sunday’s matchup with the New York Jets.

Brockers was initially listed as questionable with an illness but did not make the trip with the team. Reserve running back Justin Jackson was downgraded to questionable with an illness designation as well. Jackson has been seeing consistent action as the third RB in the rotation behind Jamaal Williams and D’Andre Swift.

The illness has been running through the Lions for the last couple of weeks. CB Jeff Okudah played through it in Week 14 but was limited in his rep count. Several other Lions have missed practices as well.

Five Boston Celtics become trade-eligible today

These players are now available to be dealt if the need arises.

An important day on the NBA calendar has arrived with December 15; many of the players who signed new contracts over the summer at the start of the free agency period are now eligible to be traded with the lifting of the moratorium against it on this date.

That means ball clubs will now have a significantly larger pool of players to choose from when constructing trades both on the sending side of the bargain, and among potential targets. At present, there is little chatter of significance involving the Boston Celtics in any potential trades, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t looking for ways to make their roster better.

Let’s take a look at the five players on the team who are now eligible to be traded and what they are making for cap management purposes, even if it’s looking like most if not all will be with the team come April.

Studs and Duds from the Lions Week 14 victory over the Vikings

Here are this weeks Studs and Duds for the the Detroit Lions as they continue their winning ways beating the Minnesota Vikings, 34-23,

The Detroit Lions continue their impressive run with a 34-23 victory over their division rival, the Minnesota Vikings, winning five of their last six games.

The Lions continue to put the league on notice as they are no longer the pushover team or redemption game from the past, but the team who knock you down if you aren’t careful. Through aggressive play calling, stout defense and strong execution, the Lions are now making noise in the playoff hunt.

Even though the Vikings continued to fight back, the Lions were in control throughout the game and never surrendered the lead. It might not have been the cleanest game, but the mistakes that would’ve brought down past Lions teams, this year’s squad has learned to bounce back and fight to the last second. The offense looked in sync, the defense played strong, and even special teams were spot on. When you play complementary football, this is what you get and something many people can get used to seeing.

There are many high fives to hand out, as many had strong performances this week, but unfortunately, some did not have the greatest showings. So here are this week’s studs and duds.

Lions PFF Grades: Young core graded high in victory over Packers

The Detroit Lions relied on their young core to bring them home against the Green Bay Packers and PFF grades reflect the strong performances

Individuals are always looking for immediate success and instant gratification, so patience surrounding the Detroit Lions rebuild has come with some frustration and turmoil, considering how the last few weeks have gone. However, even though it was only one win, this one seemed different when the Lions defeated their division rival, the Green Bay Packers, to a tune of 15-9 with the help of one of their defensive performances in some time.

The most fulfilling part of the whole endeavor was seeing the young guns blooming right in front of our eyes. With how the team is built, the Lions have to rely on a slew of young players, and, at times, they make questionable mistakes, but with the right guidance and coaching, they perform admirably, and that was what was shown against the Packers. If they continue their trajectory, the sky is the limit for the Lions young core.

As such, this week’s PFF grades have many of their young players sitting right on top, assuring that what we saw was not just a mirage.

Newest Boston Celtics forward Justin Jackson talks about making the team

“(I’m) definitely looking forward to coming to an already great team,” said Jackson.

Newest Boston Celtics forward Justin Jackson spoke to the media after his first practice with the team as part of the Celtics’ 2022-23 NBA season roster.

“It’s a blessing for sure,” the Houston native said of making the team after a tough start in Boston’s earlier preseason games.

“(I’m) definitely looking forward to coming to an already great team, an already great historical organization, and just learning as much I can and contributing in whatever ways I can possibly contribute,” added Jackson.

The former North Carolina standout produced 16 points and 4 rebounds against the Charlotte Hornets on Oct. 7. In that game, he hit half of his eight 3-point attempts. The effort likely cast the deciding vote in his campaign to make the team.

Take a look at the clip embedded below put together by our friends over at the CLNS Media YouTube channel to hear all that the Houston native had to say about his making the Celtics roster and the season ahead.

Boston Celtics to reportedly sign forward Justin Jackson to final open roster spot

Jackson’s 16-point, 4-rebound preseason performance against the Charlotte Hornets on Oct. 7 that saw the Houston native shoot 4-of-8 from 3-point range likely sealed the deal for Boston.

Per recent reporting from the Boston Globe’s Adam Himmelsbach, it sounds as if the Boston Celtics have made up their minds about how to get the roster to the league’s 15-man maximum for the 2022-23 regular season. The Globe reporter relates that veteran small forward Justin Jackson will fill the ball club’s final open roster spot heading into the team’s opening day showdown with Atlantic Division rival Philadelphia 76ers.

No word yet on any details about the deal and potential salary rates or guarantees for the former 15th overall pick of the Portland Trail Blazers.

But with the team needing some flexibility into the 3-4 range of the wing, there will likely be some playing time for the 6-foot-8 North Carolina native with Boston this season.

Celtics reportedly plan to use all 15 roster spots, look internally with Noah Vonleh ‘best positioned’

The team will monitor cut players around the league as well, per reports.

According to recent reporting from the Boston Globe’s Adam Himmelsbach, the Boston Celtics plan to use all 15 roster spots — and expect to fill them internally barring an unexpected player shaking free ahead of the team’s season opener against the Philadelphia 76ers on Tuesday, Oct. 18.

While Boston will “continue to keep tabs on cuts” around the NBA, big man Noah Vonleh ” is best positioned to secure one of the final two open spots.” That leaves Justin Jackson, Jake Layman and Mfiondu Kabengele in the running for the other. Kabegele is the least likely to make the full roster given he is already under contract as a two-way player.

Boston could maintain flexibility here and get an extended look at players by using partially guaranteed deals that would allow the team to keep them up to the January league-wide deadline to guarantee contracts.

Watch: Justin Jackson has big block on former Duke player

Former UNC basketball wing Justin Jackson had a big block on a former Duke player in the Boston Celtics win over the Charlotte Hornets.

The NBA is just a little over a week away from the start of the regular season, so the preseason schedule is in full swing. This also means players are fighting to make regular season rosters, as is the case with one former UNC basketball player.

Over the weekend, Justin Jackson made a statement play for the Boston Celtics… and it happened against a former Duke player.

Playing the Charlotte Hornets, Celtics wing Justin Jackson had a nice chase down block on Mark Williams. Not only was it a nice block and effort play, Jackson made sure to let Williams know about it after with a nice stare down.

In addition to his block, Jackson also had a nice game offensively. He scored 16 points and four rebounds. He also made four 3s in the Celtics’ win.

The 6-foot-8 wing is looking to make the final roster for the Celtics heading into the season and with his recent good play, he could be close to solidifying his spot on the roster. The Celtics are still looking for an additional wing to add some depth with the injury to Danilo Gallinari.

Jackson played in the Summer League for the Celtics and was on Boston’s roster last year as part of a 10-day contract before signing this training camp deal. He averaged 15 points per game in the Summer.
