Notre Dame sees just 4 players invited to NFL combine

Surprised there weren’t more?

When the NFL scouting combine takes place in Indianapolis in February, Notre Dame will be represented.  It won’t be particularly loaded with Golden Domers but it will be represented.

Offensive lineman [autotag]Jarrett Patterson[/autotag], tight end [autotag]Michael Mayer[/autotag], safety [autotag]Brandon Joseph[/autotag], and edge rusher [autotag]Isaiah Foskey[/autotag] were all invited.  None of those players are particularly surprising to hear be invited but perhaps the ones that weren’t come as at least a little bit of surprise.

Both [autotag]Jayson Ademilola[/autotag] and [autotag]Justin Ademilola[/autotag] didn’t get an invitation after having solid careers on Notre Dame’s defensive line.  Offensive lineman Josh Lugg was also left of the list of invitees.  Perhaps none of the three on their own are that surprising to see get invited but if given those three names I would have guessed at least one would have gotten an invite based simply on what Notre Dame has put in the NFL from their positions in recent years.

Notre Dame defensive lineman Justin Ademilola declares for NFL draft

Good luck, Justin (and Jayson).

One of the unsung heroes of Notre Dame’s defense the past few years has been lineman [autotag]Justin Ademilola[/autotag]. More attention has gone to twin brother [autotag]Jayson Ademilola[/autotag]. Still, he is just as fierce a defender, and he’s ready to test his abilities at the next level. Just as Jayson did Wednesday, Justin is declaring for the NFL draft, an announcement he made on social media:

In five seasons with the Irish, Justin recorded 108 tackles, 13 tackles for loss and 9.5 sacks. He also recovered three fumbles, forced another one and deflected one pass. He reached his career high of six tackles twice this past season, ironically in the Irish’s two home losses to Marshall and Stanford. His lone 1.5-sack game was in 2021 at Virginia.

Best of luck to both Justin and Jayson as they prepare themselves for the professional game. Irish fans should be grateful that they both stayed with the program for as long as they could. That’s something that never can be repaid.

Five keys for Notre Dame to defeat UNLV

What are your keys against UNLV?

We have come to a point in the season where the Irish need to play their A-game to win. They can no longer sleep-walk through a game and defeat a lesser opponent. It’s been a stark contrast from the Brian Kelly era but there is no doubt in my mind that Marcus Freeman won’t figure it out eventually. With that in mind, here are five keys the Irish get back into the win column on Saturday.

Twitter reacts to Logan Diggs’ touchdown to begin second half

Nice job taking advantage of busted coverage.

The first quarter of the game between Notre Dame and North Carolina is looking more and more like a distant memory. That’s because it’s been almost all Irish ever since. If you don’t believe that, look no further than the first possession of the third quarter. [autotag]Drew Pyne[/autotag]’s play-action pass found a wide-open [autotag]Logan Diggs[/autotag] thanks to busted coverage, and Diggs calmly jogged into the end zone for a 29-yard touchdown:

We don’t know what was said to the players after the first 15 minutes, but it clearly has worked. The Irish are in complete control, and they are refusing to take their foot off the gas pedal. We saw that on the first defensive play of the second half when [autotag]JD Bertrand[/autotag] forced a fumble from Drake Maye on a sack and [autotag]Justin Ademilola[/autotag] recovered it, setting the Irish up in excellent field position. That eventually led to [autotag]Audric Estime[/autotag]’s second touchdown of the game, albeit after a controversial pass interference call against the Tar Heels on fourth-and-goal.

Here’s how Twitter reacted to Diggs’ score:

The culmination of the spring football season is upon us, the Blue and Gold game is set to be on our screens and for some of us, in the stands of Notre Dame Stadium. For the most part all the work these players have put in has been behind the scenes, but now, they emerge from the shadows of Irish Athletic Complex and give us a sneak peak of what’s to come this fall. Here are five outcomes we’d love to see come out of the spring.
