5 stars: The best and worst of Notre Dame’s win over NC State

Who did well and who didn’t for the Irish against NC State?

For three quarters, [autotag]Notre Dame football[/autotag] was in a tussle with host [autotag]North Carolina State[/autotag], but the end result will not show that.

The Irish outlasted the Wolfpack, getting a 45-24 victory on the road to improve to 3-0. There was plenty of good and bad for Notre Dame, even with a double-digit road win. There were times the Irish struggled and dominated, even with a lengthy weather delay during the second quarter.

Find out below which Notre Dame players or units performed the best, five-stars, or the worst, one-star, in the Irish’s 45-24 victory against NC State.

Notre Dame football offers Utah 2024 safety

The Irish are early to offer a fast-rising safety

[autotag]Notre Dame[/autotag] football has plenty of ammo when trying to convince a secondary recruit that South Bend is the right place for them. Freshman [autotag]Ben Morrison[/autotag] is coming off an All-American season while former Irish safety [autotag]Kyle Hamilton[/autotag] just finished off an impressive first year with the [autotag]Baltimore Ravens[/autotag].

With that in mind, head coach [autotag]Marcus Freeman[/autotag] and safeties coach [autotag]Chris O’Leary[/autotag] offered Utah safety [autotag]Davis Andrews[/autotag] today.

The six-foot-three-inch and 195-pound player could eventually outgrow the position and end up as a linebacker, but he currently fits the mold of the big safeties that Notre Dame likes to deploy at the back end of their defense.

The Irish offer is Andrews first big one, as he was previously offered by [autotag]Stanford[/autotag], [autotag]BYU[/autotag], [autotag]Arizona[/autotag] and a few others. Expect Notre Dame to be players for his signature later this year.

Is Notre Dame a top 10 team entering 2023? 247Sports doesn’t think so

A bit low don’t you think?

As the college football season is set to finish this evening with [autotag]TCU[/autotag] facing [autotag]Georgia[/autotag] in the [autotag]College Football Playoff[/autotag] finale, it’s that time to look ahead at who will challenge to be in the game next year.

For [autotag]Notre Dame[/autotag], they are losing some stars (tight end [autotag]Michael Mayer[/autotag], defensive end [autotag]Isaiah Foskey[/autotag] and safety [autotag]Brandon Joseph[/autotag]) while they found a big time up-grade at quarterback with Wake Forest transfer [autotag]Sam Hartman[/autotag].

The player movement has many believing that the Irish will contend for a CFP spot but it seems like 247Sports isn’t thinking the same way. They released their way-too-early top 25 today and they ranked [autotag]Marcus Freeman[/autotag] and Notre Dame 13th.

It seems a bit low considering they have made an upgrade at the most important position with plenty of returning stars (cornerback [autotag]Ben Morrison[/autotag], offensive tackles [autotag]Joe Alt[/autotag] and [autotag]Blake Fisher[/autotag]). The highest vote they received was 10th, with is right around where they should have been rated.

[autotag]Tennessee[/autotag] has more questions than the Irish, they were ranked 12th. [autotag]Clemson[/autotag] had an up-and-down year and “return” their starting quarterback who just started his first game. The Tigers were 11th while [autotag]Oregon[/autotag] did make sense to me at 10.[autotag]Bo Nix[/autotag] returning helps while a big time recruiting class is on their way to Eugene.

It’s obvious that this could change, with the second signing period and more player movement in the transfer portal but having Notre Dame at 13, even right now, is too low.  Find out below where every team 247Sports ranked ended up.

The day after: Lasting thoughts on Notre Dame’s epic comeback over South Carolina

What still sticks out in your mind Irish fans?

How nice was it to wake up knowing that the Irish were winners of the [autotag]TaxSlayer Gator Bowl[/autotag]? Really nice, right?

As we all continue to watch the remaining bowl games, we can now look back on what happened yesterday and what could happen in the future with [autotag]Marcus Freeman[/autotag] and the [autotag]Notre Dame[/autotag] program. It’s going to be a very interesting off-season in South Bend, one which could very well give us an idea of what to expect going forward.

There were plenty of those thoughts that popped into my head since yesterday and here they are on plenty of Irish topics.

5 stars: The best and worst of Notre Dame’s win over South Carolina

That was fun but it wasn’t all good for the Irish

After the first quarter, it looked like this was going to be another disappointing Bowl season for [autotag]Notre Dame[/autotag]. Well, that’s why the game is played for 60 minutes. The Irish chipped away and never gave up.

Their tenacity rewarded them with a 45-38 [autotag]TaxSlayer Gator Bowl[/autotag] victory over [autotag]South Carolina[/autotag], the first of [autotag]Marcus Freeman[/autotag] era in South Bend. They improved to 9-4 with the win. It clearly wasn’t all good for the Irish and here are the best, five stars, and worst, one star, performances for Notre Dame during its comeback win over the Gamecocks.

The coach sounds off.

Marcus Freeman had little reason to be upset about Notre Dame’s 44-0 win over Boston College. Any coach in his shoes would feel the same way. He indicated such during his postgame news conference. Thanks to the folks at Irish Illustrated for providing these quotes:
