Notre Dame sees just 4 players invited to NFL combine

Surprised there weren’t more?

When the NFL scouting combine takes place in Indianapolis in February, Notre Dame will be represented.  It won’t be particularly loaded with Golden Domers but it will be represented.

Offensive lineman [autotag]Jarrett Patterson[/autotag], tight end [autotag]Michael Mayer[/autotag], safety [autotag]Brandon Joseph[/autotag], and edge rusher [autotag]Isaiah Foskey[/autotag] were all invited.  None of those players are particularly surprising to hear be invited but perhaps the ones that weren’t come as at least a little bit of surprise.

Both [autotag]Jayson Ademilola[/autotag] and [autotag]Justin Ademilola[/autotag] didn’t get an invitation after having solid careers on Notre Dame’s defensive line.  Offensive lineman Josh Lugg was also left of the list of invitees.  Perhaps none of the three on their own are that surprising to see get invited but if given those three names I would have guessed at least one would have gotten an invite based simply on what Notre Dame has put in the NFL from their positions in recent years.

Notre Dame defensive lineman Justin Ademilola declares for NFL draft

Good luck, Justin (and Jayson).

One of the unsung heroes of Notre Dame’s defense the past few years has been lineman [autotag]Justin Ademilola[/autotag]. More attention has gone to twin brother [autotag]Jayson Ademilola[/autotag]. Still, he is just as fierce a defender, and he’s ready to test his abilities at the next level. Just as Jayson did Wednesday, Justin is declaring for the NFL draft, an announcement he made on social media:

In five seasons with the Irish, Justin recorded 108 tackles, 13 tackles for loss and 9.5 sacks. He also recovered three fumbles, forced another one and deflected one pass. He reached his career high of six tackles twice this past season, ironically in the Irish’s two home losses to Marshall and Stanford. His lone 1.5-sack game was in 2021 at Virginia.

Best of luck to both Justin and Jayson as they prepare themselves for the professional game. Irish fans should be grateful that they both stayed with the program for as long as they could. That’s something that never can be repaid.

Six hidden plays that helped determine Notre Dame’s loss to USC

Which plays stood out to you?

The Trojans built a double-digit lead right before halftime and never really looked back as the Irish failed to come up with big drive and enough stops to defeat USC 38-27. There were swing moments in the game, some went the Irish’s way, but most of them didn’t. Find out which hidden, although not all of them were, plays made a huge different in Notre Dame’s loss to USC.

Notre Dame-Boston College: Irish injury update before kickoff

Hate to see players unable to play on their senior day

Notre Dame will take the field on their senior day a hair shorthanded.  We already knew that a good amount of players were going through various ailments as Marcus Freeman updated the masses earlier in the week.  We now have official word as three Notre Dame players won’t be able to play today.

Officially out for today are:

  • Wide receiver [autotag]Tobias Merriweather[/autotag]
  • Safety [autotag]Brandon Joseph[/autotag]
  • Defensive lineman [autotag]Jayson Ademilola[/autotag]

Merriweather and Joseph were expected but the Ademilola one is new as he wasn’t even mentioned by Freeman earlier in the week.  This official word comes straight from Notre Dame football’s public relations department.  Although I don’t think these will have much of an impact on what should be an easy Irish victory, it stinks to see Joseph and Ademilola not being able to play on their special days.

Twitter reacts to Notre Dame safety against BYU

You loved this, right?

If you’ve been watching the first half of Notre Dame’s Shamrock Series game against BYU, you would think the wrong team is ranked. While the Irish haven’t had a perfect game against the Cougars to this point, they’ve made one devastating play after another. Perhaps the biggest such moment came in the form of a [autotag]Jack Kiser[/autotag] safety immediately after the Irish had a turnover on downs:

The Irish came into this game with the clear advantage in time of possession, and that is playing a factor right now. The defense mostly has done a terrific job holding its own, and it’s limiting offensive opportunities for the Cougars. If the Irish win this game, you could argue that game balls should be split evenly among [autotag]Al Golden[/autotag]’s entire unit.

Here are some folks who took to Twitter to react what might be the Irish’s biggest defensive moment so far this season:

Notre Dame defender offers dynamite quote about Irish defensive line

I’d buy a t-shirt with this quote on it

Most college football analysts look at Notre Dame’s offensive and defensive lines as the strengths of the team entering this season and understandably so. For purposes of this post we’re focusing on the defensive side of the ball and it all starts up front, where the Irish should be fantastic.

Isaiah Foskey, Rylie Mills, and Jayson and Justin Ademilola head the group that Phil Steele calls the sixth-best defensive line in college football entering 2022.

Speaking ahead of Saturday’s showdown at Ohio State, defensive tackle Jayson Ademilola showed off the confidence he has not just in himself but in the defensive line unit as a whole.

“We’re going to play to our strengths,” Ademilola said. “We feel like we’re the toughest, strongest, badass (expletive) in the country and that’s just going to be our strengths.”

Put it on a T-shirt!

In all seriousness, this group should be one of the very best in college football this year and if Notre Dame makes a game of it Saturday night they will likely be the biggest reason.
