Ohio State transfer WR may have spoiled his commitment to Penn State

It looks all but official that Penn State is about to bring this star wide receiver home out of the transfer portal.

We do not know exactly when Ohio State wide receiver transfer Julian Fleming plans on making his commitment announcement out of the transfer portal, but he may have just shared a spoiler that will be great news for Penn State fans.

In a recent social media post, Fleming shared an image of a Dodge Ram truck with the caption of “The new toy” with a smiling emoji. And with a little internet sleuthing at work, it was easily connected that the dealer decal on the back of the truck belongs to a Dodge dealer that is an official corporate partner of Penn State, suggesting this Dodge Ram being a new toy for the Pennsylvania native is hardly a coincidence.

It could very well be a part of an NIL deal in place for Fleming as he makes a move from Ohio State to Penn State. Regardless, Penn State looks to be close to landing one of the top wide receivers in the transfer portal in Fleming any day now.

Fleming announced his entry to the NCAA transfer portal in early December, shortly after the conclusion of Ohio State’s regular season. Penn State and Nebraska appeared to be the top two schools in the running for Fleming, but it looks more and more as though Penn State is about to be the winner of this transfer recruitment.

Fleming will have one year of eligibility remaining once he makes his transfer official. Supposing it is Penn State, Fleming will move right into a leading role in the offense under new offensive coordinator Andy Kotelnicki, who was hired to be Penn State’s new offensive coordinator following the dismissal of former Ohio State offensive coordinator Mike Yurcich.

Penn State seems to be trendy pick for Ohio State transfer receiver

Penn State is looking to be the trendy pick for Ohio State transfer wide receiver Julian Fleming.

If there has been one thing Penn State has seen firsthand the last few years, it is the ability of Ohio State’s playmaking wide receivers to dictate the outcome of a football game. So what if the Nittany Lions managed to lure one of those Buckeye receivers to Happy Valley?

As the early signing period approaches and the transfer portal is open for business, recruiting analysts are increasingly projecting Ohio State transfer wide receiver [autotag]Julian Fleming[/autotag] to make his way to Penn State. Penn State and Nebraska appear to be the top two choices for the Ohio State transfer. Fleming entered the transfer portal on Dec. 4 and made a visit to Nebraska earlier this week.

But the crystal ball picks from 247Sports’ analysts, including Brian Dohn (247Sports national recruiting analyst) and Chris Hummer (247Sports national writer), are 100% in favor of Penn State as Fleming’s final destination. The recruiting prediction machine numbers crunched by On3 also give Penn State a 97.9% chance of securing Fleming’s commitment out of the transfer portal, with Nebraska picking up the remaining percentages.

The addition of Fleming to the Penn State offense would be a significant upgrade for the receiving unit as a whole. On3 ranks Fleming as the no. 3 overall transfer player in the nation, and the top wide receiver in the transfer portal. 247Sports has identical rankings for Fleming in the transfer portal.

Penn State has a clear need to upgrade its wide receivers after having one of the least explosive offenses in 2023. The Nittany Lions will have a new offensive coordinator in Andy Kotelnicki, a creative offensive mind coming to Penn State from Kansas. Kotelnicki will already have some work to do to get Drew Allar to match lofty expectations, but giving him a receiver like Fleming would be a quick fix.

Fleming saw his production dip in 2023 from his 2022 stat line while playing in the shadow of Marvin Harrison Jr., arguably the best wide receiver in the nation. Fleming caught 34 passes for 533 yards and 6 touchdowns in 2022 and 26 passes for 270 yards in 2023.

A pair of former 5-star Ohio State transfers to visit Nebraska

This is an interesting development

The transfer portal has changed the collegiate game, and Ohio State football, like many others, have seen contributors enter and look for new destinations.

Two former 5-star Buckeye recruits, quarterback [autotag]Kyle McCord,[/autotag] and wide receiver [autotag]Julian Fleming,[/autotag] could potentially continue to be teammates in a different shade of red.

According to a report by On3’s Pete Nakos, the pair are both visiting Nebraska this weekend. The two connected 26 times for 270 yards this past season and clearly have some familiarity with each other.

Both were some of the best prospects coming out of high school — McCord ranked as the No. 28 overall prospect in the 2021 class — while Fleming was the No. 3 overall, both according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings.

As of this post, neither have made their intentions known, but it’s clear there is interesting in playing for the Cornhuskers.

8 transfer portal entrants that Alabama could pursue

Alabama has struck gold multiple times by landing stars from the transfer portal. Here are eight names currently in the portal to keep an eye on!

The window for undergraduates to enter the transfer portal opened up on Monday, Dec. 4. Since then, there has been a multitude of players that have entered the transfer portal.

Alabama has shown interest in Texas A&M defensive line transfer Lebbeus “LT” Overton. Other than that, there has not been confirmed interest that Alabama is pursuing any other transfers.

It will be interesting to see if Alabama decides to target any transfers that are currently available or wait until other players become available in the transfer portal.

Roll Tide Wire takes a look at eight transfer portal entrants that Alabama could look to pursue in the near future.

Former USC target Julian Fleming enters transfer portal, leaves Ohio State

Here’s a prime receiver target for USC in the portal.

Ohio State wide receiver Julian Fleming has hit the transfer portal. Buckeyes Wire has more on the story.

Fleming was a five-star prospect, the top player in Pennsylvania and the No. 4 overall prospect in the country, according to 247Sports, in the 2020 recruiting class.

“I want to thank Ohio State and all the amazing people who were apart of my rollercoaster of a journey,” wrote Fleming in a statement on social media. “Playing in Columbus has truly been one of the greatest times of my life and I want to take the time to thank the entire Buckeyes nation for all the support!”

Fleming was a two-time Gatorade Pennsylvania Player of the Year winner in 2018 and 2019. As a senior, Fleming had 72 catches for 1,582 yards and 22 touchdowns. As a junior, he had 78 catches for 1,524 yards and 22 scores.

Fleming played four years at Ohio State but never emerged in a crowded and talented receiver room that has produced first-round draft picks Chris Olave, Garrett Wilson, Jaxon Smith-Njigba and, soon enough, Marvin Harrison Jr.

Fleming totaled 963 yards and seven touchdowns on 79 receptions in 38 games. His best season came in 2022 when he ranked third on the team in receiving behind Harrison and Emeka Egbuka with 533 yards and six touchdowns on 34 catches.

Expect Penn State, USC, Tennessee, Texas A&M, North Carolina, Clemson, Ole Miss, Michigan State, Florida and Florida State to show major interest in the Pennsylvania native.

Ohio State wide receiver Julian Fleming enters transfer portal

Another Buckeye, this time a veteran playmaker, hits the portal. #GoBucks

It has been a rough stretch for Ohio State football fans the past few day. The Buckeyes missed the College Football Playoff on Sunday and now are losing players to transfer portal.

The most notable Buckeye to hit the portal is starting quarterback, Kyle McCord, who announced his decision Monday morning.  Now, a second starter from this season is entering the transfer portal. Julian Fleming announced he will enter the portal after four seasons as a Buckeye.

Fleming has started for Ohio State in each of the last two seasons after arriving on campus as a five-star recruit in the 2020 class.

In 2022, Fleming was third on the team in receiving yards, putting up 533 yards and six touchdowns. This season, Fleming was fourth in receiving yards with 270 and provided good contributions with his run blocking.

It’s unfortunate Fleming will not wear scarlet and gray next season, but Buckeye nation is appreciative of Fleming’s contributions for four years and wish him the best of luck moving forward.

With Fleming entering the transfer portal and Marvin Harrison Jr. and Emeka Egbuka likely to enter the 2024 NFL draft as projected first-round picks, Ohio State will likely look for young players to step up in the wide receiver room next year.

Luckily, with how well the Buckeyes have recruited at wide receiver, they are in a good position to reload at the position.

Carnell Tate has a great deal of potential and played quite a bit as a true freshman. He has 260 yards and a touchdown this season. Brandon Inniss, Noah Rogers and Bryson Rodgers also highlight a strong 2023 wide receiver recruiting class.

Committed to play for the Buckeyes out of the 2024 class are top overall recruit Jeremiah Smith, five-star Mylan Graham and top 100 overall recruit Jeremiah McClellan.

Ten Ohio State football players who earned their Buckeye leaves against Maryland

Which Buckeyes stood out to you today? #GoBucks

[autotag]Ohio State football[/autotag] shook off their first half bland play to surge ahead of [autotag]Maryland[/autotag] in the second half, to earn a 37-17 win in front of a home crowd.

While the score looks good, there were still aspects of the game that have left much more to be desired. With that said, there was still plenty of good to come out of this win. That does happen when you still come out victorious, while not playing your best.

We will see more Buckeye decals on Ohio State players helmet’s next week against [autotag]Purdue[/autotag] and here are ten players that earned their’s for their play against Maryland.

Ohio State statistical leaders through three games

These guys in particular could be a problem Saturday.

2023 Buckeyes Wire Preseason All-Big Ten team: Offensive skill positions

Which Ohio State skill position football players made our prediction for the All-Big Team #GoBucks #B1G

The 2023 college football season is right around the corner and the Big Ten is loaded with top-notch talent and predicting who will end up on the All-Big Ten has proven challenging. Not only was it hard to choose one player over another, but it was also hard to admit that the Michigan Wolverines have a number of studs that will potentially wreak havoc on the rest of the conference.

This list is going to dive into the offensive skill position players and even though the Big Ten is typically known for their defense, there is a ton of firepower in the conference this season and that is especially true at the skill positions.

In the age of the transfer portal, it is possible for a complete dark horse to rise as a frontrunner, but we will do our best to provide the most educated guess based on previous performances and situations.

On3 ranks Ohio State as the top wide receiver unit in college football

I mean, it’s really no surprise here, right? #GoBucks

On3’s Jesse Simonton started releasing his position group rankings for next season last week.

Given the strength of the Buckeyes’ wide receiver room, it comes as no surprise that they come in at number one on this list. With Jaxon Smith-Njigba out with a hamstring injury for most of last season, Ohio State returns their top six leaders in receiving yards.

The headliner of the unit is Marvin Harrison Jr. who is the consensus top wide receiver in all of college football. Harrison Jr.’s talent was apparent in his true freshman season and last season he broke out leading the team in catches (77), receiving yards (1,263), and receiving touchdowns (14).

[affiliatewidget_smgtolocal]

The expectations for Harrison Jr. this season are sky-high as he will be an integral part of the Buckeyes offense and could even be a dark horse Heisman contender.

One of college football’s best receivers last season also returns with big expectations for this season. Emeka Egbuka is perhaps a bit under shadowed because he plays alongside Harrison Jr., but he was an integral part of the offense last season and will be this season as well.

Harrison Jr. and Egbuka are the clear top two target leaders in the offense and that third receiver option is also likely locked down as well.

Julian Fleming was third on the team in receiving yards with 533 yards in last season. The former five-star from the 2020 class would likely be the top receiver on many teams across college football.

Jayden Ballard is another good option as he could provide more of a deep-threat element to the offense.  Ballard showed out with a good performance at the Spring Game including a one-handed catch.

Returning for his sixth season with the Buckeyes will be Xavier Johnson. He has shown consistently that he can step up when he’s called upon as he caught two big touchdowns last season including a third-down strike over the middle against Notre Dame to give Ohio State the lead late in the third quarter.

The Buckeyes also bring in a very talented group of freshmen receivers.  Carnell Tate, Noah Rogers, and Brandon Inniss all were top ten ranked wide receivers in the 2023 class.

While they may not make a major impact this season, they will be important factors in the offense very soon.
