Ohio State football 2020 receiving corps will is going to be ridiculously good

The Ohio State Buckeyes will have a reenergized roster this coming season, led by what could easily be the nation’s best receiving corps.

The Ohio State football team will lose critical pieces of their team to the 2020 NFL Draft. Chase Young, J.K. Dobbins and Jeff Okudah will all be leaving after their junior season.

However, Ohio State is losing more than just those three. Seniors like K.J. Hill, the university’s all-time receptions leader, and Binjimen Victor will be leaving, potentially continuing their career in the NFL.

The absence of those two will deplete the team’s receiving corps.

Justin Fields shouldn’t worry though.

He’ll be getting all the help he needs in the form of an upgraded Garrett Wilson, experienced Chris Olave, and extremely talented inbound receiving class.

Wilson was the No. 2 receiver in the Class of 2019. Julian Fleming is the No. 1 receiver in the Class of 2020. Aside from Fleming, Ohio State is bringing in the fifth-best and tenth-best receivers in the class according to 247Sports.

The key to unlocking Wilson, Fleming, Gee Scott Jr., and Jaxon Smith-Njigba is Chris Olave. Olave accounted for 12 touchdowns and 840 yards last season. He’ll get a lot of attention from opposing defenses in 2020.

While he may remember the 2019 season for the heartbreak in the College Football Playoff semifinal Fiesta Bowl, there’s no denying that he’ll be the unanimous leader of the nation’s most talent receiving corp in 2020.

Those five receivers will take this offense to a new level, hopefully, one we’ve yet to see at the collegiate level in a long, long time.

Is Ohio State football becoming wide-receiver U?

Ohio State has been known for being a run-heavy team throughout its history, but is it now becoming Wide Receiver U?

It’s been well documented that Ohio State has been laying claim as “DBU” for churning out NFL defensive backs throughout history. The Bucks may start claiming the title of “Wide Receiver U” before too long.

Ohio State was a little late to the passing game as Buckeye Legend Woody Hayes famously said: “There are only three things can happen on a pass, and two of them are bad.” But Ohio State would start to evolve with names like Chris Carter, Terry Glenn, and David Boston in the 80’s and 90’s.

However, you might be surprised to know that since the 2000 NFL draft, Ohio State has had more receivers drafted than any other college program. It’ll no doubt add to that total with guys like KJ Hill and Austin Mack this coming April.

It seems now, Columbus is the place to be for highly-touted receivers to land. The 2020 recruiting class lays claim to the No. 1, No. 5, No. 12, and No. 15 ranked receivers in the nation (Julian Flemming, Jaxon Smith-Njigba, Gee Scott, Jr., and Mookie Cooper). Add this class to what was a strong 2019 receiving class led by the No. 2 nationally-ranked receiver, Garrett Wilson, and there is something special in the making.

Speaking of Garrett Wilson, he and fellow Buckeye Wideout, Chris Olave just made the Pro Football Focus list of top 25 receivers returning to college football in 2020.  Wilson comes in at No. 24 and Olave makes the ranking at No. 10.

Brian Hartline is doing work not only bringing in top-level talent, but developing that talent as well. And we’re excited to see what this explosive group can do going forward.

Three of Ohio State football’s 2020 early enrollees took to Twitter to show off their new rooms.

By now, all fourteen of the Ohio State football team’s early enrollees for the 2020 recruiting class have arrived on campus and have found their way to the new housing for the start of college. It’s where they’ll be for the beginning of the next step on their football journey.

If you’ve ever wondered what the living quarters of a big-time college football player looks like, then you are in luck. (Hint: It looks a lot like other students’ rooms do). Three of Ohio State’s more prominent freshman that enrolled early took some time to show off their new digs by way of a video shared by the official Twitter feed of the Ohio State Football.

Get a look at roommates Kourt Williams and C.J. Stroud show off their “west-coast” room, while receiver Julian Fleming shows you what his place looks like. Just click on the below and enjoy.

All we got to say is that one looks much more put together and homely than the other. Someone has got some catching up to do.

Ohio State football welcomes early enrollees for 2020 class via Twitter

A few early enrollees for the 2020 Ohio State football recruiting class have moved to campus. Ohio State welcomed them on Twitter.

Ohio State’s 2019 football season came to a premature end (queue the flashbacks), but it’s already time to turn the page to the 2020 season. And in the world of big-time college football that’s exactly what happened over the weekend.

A few of the highly rated Buckeyes’ 2020 recruiting class is enrolling early, and it was time to move in and “come home.” Here’s a look at what some of the future OSU players looked like on Twitter as they backed the U-Haul up to the banks of the Olentangy to start the next chapter in their football careers.

Hopefully we can look back on some of these and reminisce about a class that made Ohio State football memorable.

Here is defensive back Lejond Cavazos checking in.

And here’s his tweet on his own.

Quarterback Jack Miller, defensive back Ryan Watts and Julian Fleming also hit campus together.

There will surely be more move in over the next few days, but for now, some of the best of the best are starting to hit the ground running at THE Ohio State University.

Michigan commit erroneously claims dominance over Ohio State’s Julian Fleming in All-American Bowl

Ohio State wide-receiver commit Julian Fleming set the record straight on a false claim made by Michigan DB commit in All-American Game.

The Under Armour All-American Game was a television set or streaming device near you Thursday night, and there was a pretty good matchup to keep an eye on. A budding rivalry of sorts for one of the greatest rivalries in all of American sports.

Ohio State commit and No. 1 wide-receiver in the country, Julian Fleming, lined up against Michigan commit, defensive back Andre Seldon, who happens to be a top twenty DB commit for the 2020 class.

That in itself was worth the price of admission, but apparently Seldon is ready to fit right in up in Ann Arbor because he’s already doing some false trash-talking. Seldon shared a graphic after the game claiming to hold Fleming to zero catches on three targets.

Of course there’s only one problem with that.

Fleming had two catches in the first half while lining up against Seldon. Not only that, but the future Michigan defensive back was caught on film being run over by Fleming as he caught a pass and broke out of Seldon’s attempted tackle for a first down.

Fleming was having none of it and took the opportunity to set the record straight after the game. The thread itself is also worthy of some of your time as it’s roast city on Michigan.

When will these kids that go to Michigan just learn to play the game and quit talking so much in the media. Good luck in future matchups kid.

WATCH: Ohio State commit Julian Fleming catch long TD pass in All-American Game

Ohio State wide-receiver commit Julian Fleming hauled in a 42-yard touchdown pass in the Under Armour All-American Game. Watch it here.

Ohio State just might have its best wide-receiver group in the history of the program coming in next year. With four of the top fifteen receivers in the group, the competition will be fierce. Such incoming talent will combine with what’s already in the cupboard to make next year awfully exciting in the passing game.

The crown jewel of that group, and the Ohio State recruiting class in general is no doubt five-star Julian Fleming. He’s tall, physical, and deceptively quick. He can go up and high-point the ball in traffic, yet run past DBs and take the top off the defense.

You can watch him in action too. He is playing in the All-American Bowl Thusday night and just ran past the corner to haul in a long touchdown pass from Notre Dame recruit Drew Pyne.

Watch it in action below thanks to the @SportsDGI Twitter feed.
