Joshua Primo selected No. 12 overall by San Antonio Spurs in 2021 NBA draft

Josh Primo is heading to San Antonio!

Former Alabama guard Joshua Primo only played one season with the program before declaring for the 2021 NBA draft. The decision has already paid off, as Primo was drafted No. 12 overall by the San Antonio Spurs.

Primo’s decision to enter the draft without an agent to retain college eligibility did not shock many, as it now seems commonplace for young players to participate in the process to obtain NBA scouting evaluations.

However, when Primo hired an agent and decided to remain in the NBA draft, the Alabama fanbase was happy for him, but shocked.

Quickly, his name shot up big boards and mock draft. None of which predicted Primo being drafted as high as No. 12.

The youngest player in the 2021 draft class and former Crimson Tide guard is heading to San Antonio.

Joshua Primo selected by Phoenix Suns in latest 2021 NBA mock draft

Primo to the Western Conference champs in this mock draft!

Former Alabama guard, Josh Primo, was a difference-maker in his true-freshman season with the Crimson Tide. He is currently preparing for the NBA draft and will not be returning to the collegiate level

The Canada native averaged 43% from the field and over eight points per game.

Primo is one of the youngest players in this 2021 NBA draft class, but that hasn’t seemed to hinder his draft stock.

Bleacher Report’s latest NBA mock draft projects Primo to be drafted No. 29 overall by the Western Conference Champions, the Phoenix Suns.

“Primo’s jumper looks rotation-ready, and he seems like he could chip in with secondary distributing,” writes Bleacher Report’s Zach Buckley. “He can help right now, but he’s also a long-term investment with his 19th birthday not coming until December.”

Roll Tide Wire will continue to follow Primo with the 2021 NBA draft just days away.

2021 aggregate NBA mock draft 7.0: Ranking the full class of prospects

The 2021 NBA draft is less than a week away and we finally have an idea of who is in — and who has withdrawn — from the class.

The 2021 NBA draft is less than a week away and we finally have an idea of who is in – and who has withdrawn – from the class.

In order to get a better sense of where all of the prospects stand as of right now, we compiled mock drafts from NBADraft.net, CBS Sports, Bleacher Report, Yahoo, The Athletic, The Ringer, Yahoo, NBA Big Board and USA TODAY Sports Media Group’s For The Win to see where the prospects rank at the moment.

Please note that these rankings reflect the composite score to get a feel for consensus, not our own opinion.

Since our previous update last month, some of the players with the most positive momentum include Quentin Grimes, Joe Wieskamp, Vrenz Bleijenbergh, Aaron Wiggins, Justin Champagnie, Jericho Sims, Jason Preston, Josh Primo, Neemias Queta, Trey Murphy and Bones Hyland.

Among players who ranked on our previous update who have since withdrawn from the draft include Roko Prkacin (32), Marcus Bagley (39), Terrence Shannon (48), Ariel Hukporti (50), Max Abmas (53), Johnny Juzang (54), Jordan Hall (66), Carlos Alocen (69) and Ochai Agbaji (75).

The most notable omissions who remain in this class but not these rankings are Yves Pons, Scottie Lewis, Jay Huff, Marcus Zegarowski, Aamir Simms, Dalano Banton, Matt Mitchell, Jose Alvarado, Carlik Jones, Derrick Alston Jr., Romeo Weems, Balsa Koprivica, Chaundee Brown, Isaiah Miller, Jordan Schakel and D.J. Carton.

Note that for the offensive roles, we borrowed a fun idea from Todd Whitehead (formerly of Nylon Calculus) with help from our friends at Bball-Index.com to create a slightly tweaked formula from the version they use.

The goal of that is not to explain how well a player scores but rather offer context for the way that he was used on his most recent team. This should help you predict how he might be used at the next level.

Meanwhile, you can learn the latest updates on every single prospect who has been included in recent mock drafts by scrolling below.

Josh Primo continues to rise up draft boards ahead of 2021 NBA draft

Josh Primo is expected to go even earlier in this latest mock draft!

With just a few weeks remaining until the 2021 NBA draft, mock drafts are heating up and big boards are starting to hold put, as teams and front offices are getting a firmer grasp on who they plan on targeting out of this talented draft class.

One name that has seemingly quickly shot up mock drafts and big board is Alabama guard Josh Primo.

When Primo first announced he was entering the draft alongside Jaden Shackelford and various others who no longer had any eligibility remaining, most Alabama fans assumed he would be returning.

While he initially declared for the draft without hiring an agent, in order to keep the option of returning, he recently hired an agent and announced he will be keeping his name in the NBA draft.

Just a few months ago the move would have seemed a bit far fetched. However, now Primo is set to be a top-20 pick in the draft.

USA TODAY’s Bryan Kalbrosky shared his most recent NBA mock draft, which has Primo being selected at No. 18 to the Oklahoma City Thunder, a pick which was acquired from the Miami Heat.

“Some of the most common talking points about Joshua Primo are: he is the youngest player in this class, he is an excellent scorer who didn’t really get a chance to show what he could in college, he boasts maturity far beyond his years,” writes Kalbrosky. “That sounds an awful lot like Devin Booker coming out of Kentucky. He also shares an AAU coach with OKC’s Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, another star from the UPlay Canada pipeline.”

Roll Tide Wire will continue to follow Primo through the draft experience, as well as his future NBA career.

Joshua Primo to remain in NBA draft, forgo collegiate eligibility

Primo has shot up draft boards and is now projected by some to be a first-round pick after a strong showing in the combine.

Alabama Crimson Tide guard Joshua Primo on Wednesday told Jonathan Givony of ESPN that he will sign with an agent and remain in the NBA draft, forgoing his remaining collegiate eligibility.

Primo announced in April that he would test the NBA waters while preserving his collegiate eligibility. However, Primo has since shot up draft boards and is now projected by some to be a first-round pick after a strong showing in the combine.

The 6-foot-5 guard, who measured in with a 6-foot-9 wingspan, was named to the SEC All-Freshman Team after averaging 8.1 points and 3.4 rebounds on 38.1% shooting from 3-point range last season. He became just the fifth player in program history to earn All-Freshman honors.

The 18-year-old will have the opportunity to further improve his draft stock with several upcoming pre-draft workouts. He will reportedly visit the Oklahoma City Thunder, Indiana Pacers and San Antonio Spurs among others in the coming days.

Primo, who is the youngest player projected to be drafted this year, brings outside shooting and the ability to handle the ball and drive to the basket to the next level. Given his age, he projects to have perhaps the highest upside of any player in the draft this year.

Tre Mann, JT Thor among prospects to work out with Pacers

Florida guard Tre Mann and Auburn forward JT Thor are among the prospects set to work out with the Pacers on Wednesday.

Florida guard Tre Mann and Auburn forward JT Thor are among the prospects set to work out with the Indiana Pacers on Wednesday, the team announced.

Mann was named to the All-SEC first team after averaging 16 points, 5.6 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 1.4 steals in 24 games with the Gators. He has been most commonly projected to be a mid-to-late first-round pick and has been one of the biggest risers in most mock drafts as of late.

Thor averaged 9.4 points, five rebounds and 1.4 blocked shots in 27 games played last season with the Tigers. He finished the season as one of five freshmen in the country to register at least 250 points, 100 rebounds and 30 blocks.

In addition to Mann and Thor, the Pacers will also be bringing in Eugene Omoruyi, Joshua Primo, DJ Steward and Marcus Zegarowski during the workout.

The Pacers will enter the draft with the 13th overall pick following the lottery last week. They also have the 54th and 60th picks in the draft and will begin to ramp up draft preparations now that the lottery and combine have concluded.

The NBA draft is scheduled to take place on Thursday, July 29.

Alabama MBB cracks top 10 in latest AP top 25

Nate Oats is doing wonders for the Crimson Tide in his second season as the head ball coach. Alabama is undefeated in SEC play and 13-3 …

Nate Oats and the Alabama Crimson Tide men’s basketball team is rolling through their SEC scedule, remaining undefeated in conference play with a total record of 13-3 after a win over Mississippi State.

The team is unique in that it has a fast-paced offense and a defense that can stop shots or a drive. Consisting of starters and off-the-bench contributors that range anywhere from seniors to true freshmen, they can do it all.

Upcoming games include Kentucky at home, then on the road to face off against Oklahoma in the SEC – Big 12 challenge.

In the latest AP top 25 poll, Alabama ranks No. 9 in the nation.

There’s no telling where the ceiling is for this team, or who will be able to slow them down from this impressive run.

Alabama handles Mississippi State to remain undefeated in SEC

The Mississippi State Bulldogs came to Tuscaloosa and gave first-place Alabama all it could handle, but the Crimson Tide proved to be too

The Mississippi State Bulldogs came to Tuscaloosa and gave first-place Alabama all it could handle, but the Crimson Tide proved to be too much in an 81-73 victory on Saturday.

The Bulldogs (9-7, 4-4) kept the game close, going into halftime down just five points. However, the Crimson Tide (13-3, 8-0) would build a double-digit lead on multiple occasions in the second half but couldn’t put the Bulldogs away.

Things got really interesting late as Mississippi State cut Alabama’s lead to three points, but the Crimson Tide would answer to keep the Bulldogs from getting any closer.

Senior guard John Petty ended things late as he drilled a 3-pointer to give the Crimson Tide a six-point lead with 31 seconds remaining. The score was 79-73 when Alabama got a defensive stop that led to a Herb Jones’ dunk for the Tide’s final points.

The win is Alabama’s ninth in a row — it’s longest win streak since 2002.

All five Alabama starters scored in double figures, with Jones leading the way with 17 points, seven assists, five rebounds, four steals and three blocks.

Freshman star Joshua Primo scored 16 points for the Crimson Tide, while Petty and Jaden Shackelford each added 12 points.

Next up for Alabama is a rematch with Kentucky, this time in Tuscaloosa. The Tide blew out the Wildcats, 85-65, earlier this month.

CBS Sports releases latest college basketball rankings. Where is Alabama?

Alabama Crimson Tide basketball is all in on Nate Pats as he has led the team all the way to the top 10 of the latsest CBS Sports rankings.

The Alabama Crimson Tide basketball team has long lived in the shadow of the football team. Nick Saban reigns supreme on campus, and certainly holds onto the top spot as the University’s ‘favorite coach,’ but Nate Oats is on the rise.

Alabama basketball currently ranks No. 18 in the nation according to the latest AP poll, but has made a significant move into the top 10 in the latest CBS Sports ranking.

With an overall record of 12-3 and an undefeated SEC record of 7-0, the Crimson Tide ranks No. 10 in the nation in the CBS Sports ranking.

A team headlined by seniors John Petty and Herb Jones has also seen a spark from the younger members of the team. Last night’s big 105-75 win over LSU saw freshman Josh Primo score 22 points.

They have not lost a game in a month and it’s beginning to garner national attention. The Crimson Tide are likely going to be dancing in March.
