Knicks’ Miles McBride drops 39 points on G League assignment

McBride on Tuesday dropped a season-high 39 points on assignment with the Westchester Knicks in the G League.

New York Knicks rookie Miles McBride on Tuesday dropped a season-high 39 points on assignment with the Westchester Knicks in the NBA G League.

McBride finished the contest by shooting 15-of-26 from the field, including 5-of-9 from 3-point range, in the 110-105 win over the Motor City Cruise. He also registered eight rebounds, seven assists, five steals and one blocked shot in 44 minutes.

The Knicks opted to send McBride to Westchester with the team back to near full strength after a recent coronavirus outbreak and other injuries. The team views Westchester as a great avenue to get McBride playing time and reps with several veterans ahead of him on the roster.

The contest on Tuesday marked the fifth appearance by McBride with Westchester and his second 30-point performance. He is averaging 29.2 points, 8.2 assists, 6.4 rebounds and 2.4 steals on 44.4% shooting from 3-point range.

Knicks head coach Tom Thibodeau previously expressed how important it is for McBride to play with Westchester when possible. The assignments have given him a great chance to stay ready and continue his development as the Knicks believe he has a bright future.

The playing time may not necessarily be there now for McBride but the 36th pick has the luxury of playing with Westchester to stay sharp and work on his game.

Knicks: Miles McBride cleared from health and safety protocols

Knicks rookie Miles McBride on Tuesday was cleared from the NBA’s health and safety protocols.

New York Knicks rookie Miles McBride on Tuesday was cleared from the NBA’s health and safety protocols, the team announced.

McBride was one of several players sidelined because of the health and safety protocols as the Knicks experienced a recent outbreak on the team. The Knicks have since gotten several players back from the protocol and are nearing full strength once again.

He will be available to play Tuesday against the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Players and coaches entered into the health and safety protocol that are vaccinated can now be cleared to return after six days, compared to the previous 10-day isolation period. Individuals can still be cleared sooner if they return two negative PCR tests at least 24 hours apart.

McBride, the 36th pick, had played sparingly this season but was thrust into the lineup with the Knicks down several players because of the health and safety protocol. He recorded a career-high 15 points, nine assists and four steals on Dec. 16, and was then entered into the protocol.

Prior to seeing an increased role this month, McBride had spent time in the NBA G League with the Westchester Knicks. He is averaging 26.8 points, 8.5 assists, six rebounds and 1.8 steals in four appearances with Westchester.

Miles McBride powers Knicks to win behind a career performance

McBride produced a career-high 15 points to help the Knicks snap a four-game losing streak and defeat the Rockets.

Miles McBride had totaled just 14 points this season entering play on Thursday but eclipsed that total to help lead the New York Knicks to a win over the Houston Rockets on the road.

McBride produced a career-high 15 points, nine assists and four steals during the 116-103 win as the Knicks snapped a four-game losing streak. He went 6-of-11 from the field while he finished a plus-19 in 36 minutes of work on the court.

The Knicks turned to McBride after halftime as Derrick Rose was ruled out of returning with an ankle injury. He responded by playing all 24 minutes in the second half as he gave the Knicks a strong presence on both ends of the floor.

McBridge had played sparingly to begin the season with a crowded backcourt ahead of him on the depth chart. The appearance on Thursday was just his 10th of the season as he has spent much of the season with the Westchester Knicks in the NBA G League.

However, with the Knicks down four players due to health and safety protocols, head coach Tom Thibodeau turned to him on Thursday. He responded and likely proved to be worthy of a spot in the rotation moving forward.

With Westchester in the G League, McBride proved to be a strong scorer capable of creating for himself and others. He showed that ability on Thursday and that proved just to be what the Knicks needed to win. It likely won’t be the last time the Knicks call his number.

Knicks’ Miles McBride had quite a G League debut with Westchester

McBride neared a double-double on assignment with the Westchester Knicks in a win over the Long Island Nets.

New York Knicks rookie Miles McBride on Wednesday neared a double-double on assignment with the Westchester Knicks in the NBA G League in a win over the Long Island Nets.

McBride produced 25 points, a game-high nine assists, five rebounds and two assists during the 104-98 victory. He finished the contest by shooting 10-of-24 from the field, including 2-of-9 from 3-point range, in 41 minutes of action.

With playing time at a minimum with New York, the team assigned McBride to Westchester prior to the contest. He has logged just four minutes across five appearances this season and finally had the opportunity to see heavy playing time on Wednesday with Westchester.

He looked to have little rust in his first extended action of the season.

Knicks head coach Tom Thibodeau expressed on Wednesday how important it is for McBride to play with Westchester whenever possible. He loves what he has seen from McBride to this point of the season and believes he has a bright future in the league.

The playing time may not necessarily be there right now for McBride, but the 36th overall pick has the luxury of playing with Westchester to stay sharp and work on his game. He did just that on Wednesday.

Knicks assign Miles McBride to Westchester in G League

McBride has seen minimal playing time with the Knicks this season, logging just four minutes across five appearances.

On Wednesday, the New York Knicks announced that they assigned rookie Miles McBride to the Westchester Knicks, their affiliate in the NBA G League.

McBride has seen minimal playing time with the Knicks this season, logging just four minutes across five appearances. He has not been a part of the rotation to begin the season and will now have the opportunity to log extended minutes with Westchester.

He is expected to play on Wednesday versus the Long Island Nets.

The 36th overall pick did not log much time in the preseason but averaged 15.2 points, 3.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.3 steals in six games during the Las Vegas Summer League. He could spend a few games with Westchester in order to see consistent playing time.

McBride is set to become the latest first-year player to log time in the G League this season. Some rookies have not had the opportunity to play much in the NBA but, with the G League operating at a full schedule again, they now have the chance to log some time in the minor league.

The contest between Westchester and Long Island can be streamed on ESPN+ starting at 7 p.m. EST.

Miles McBride hit a Las Vegas restaurant still wearing his Knicks jersey

McBride went unconscious late to lead the Knicks to victory so he decided to keep his jersey on the rest of the night.

Just a few hours after going off late to lead the New York Knicks to victory, Miles McBride was still feeling it. So, the 36th pick kept his jersey on for the rest of the night.

McBride went off for 14 of his 22 points in the fourth quarter to lead the Knicks to a 91-82 win over the Los Angeles Lakers in the Las Vegas Summer League. He finished by shooting 7-of-9 from the field, making all six of his 3-point attempts with four in the final period.

He also added seven rebounds, five assists and one steal in 28 minutes.

McBride sealed the win by draining a clutch 3-pointer with 1:20 left to give the Knicks a five-point lead. Following that shot, New York held on the rest of the way to improve to 2-1 in Las Vegas.

To celebrate, McBride hilariously hit a restaurant still in his Knicks jersey, according to Kevin O’Connor of The Ringer.

The performance by McBride was easily his best to this point of summer league. In addition to his offensive display, McBride proved very disruptive on defense, and he often made life difficult for several Lakers players throughout the night.

The Knicks this week signed McBride to a three-year contract with the first two seasons fully guaranteed. He was viewed by some to be a first-round prospect, so the Knicks may have gotten great value by drafting him early in the second round.

Certainly, if McBride can continue to show off his 3-point shooting and ability on defense, he should be able to find time on the court as a rookie. He was highly touted as a 3-and-D player entering the draft and could continue that at the next level.

NBA free agency: Projected lineup for Knicks with Kemba Walker

The New York Knicks made a splash with a playoff appearance this past season and have continued to make noise with an active offseason.

The New York Knicks made a splash with a playoff appearance this past season and have continued to make noise with an active offseason.

During his first year as head coach of the Knicks, head coach Tom Thibodeau got the most out of his players. Julius Randle took a huge step forward, winning the NBA’s Most Improved Player. Meanwhile, Immanuel Quickley outperformed expectations and was named to the NBA All-Rookie Second-Team.

The organization built on that success by re-signing Derrick Rose and Nerlens Noel. They have also managed to sign big names such as Evan Fournier and Kemba Walker, who were actually teammates on the Boston Celtics in 2020-21.

Statistically speaking, Walker’s play was elevated quite a bit once Fournier joined the Celtics. Boston outscored opponents by an excellent 14.8 points per 100 possessions when Walker and Fournier were on the floor at the same time during regular-season action, per PBP Stats. Boston’s net rating (1.1) was much worse when Walker appeared without Fournier.

Meanwhile, Walker averaged 27.0 points per 36 minutes when he shared the court with Fournier. Compare that figure to the 22.5 points per 36 minutes in minutes he played without Fournier this past season.

The two players can add some value to the momentum that the Knicks had en route to the 2021 NBA Playoffs. especially if players like Quickley and RJ Barrett continue their development.
