Ohio State football’s Josh Fryar ready for the big moment Saturday

Josh Fryar spoke to the media ahead of Ohio State’s battle with Oregon Saturday and discussed how he’s set to embrace the bright lights.

If there’s one aspect of the Ohio State football program that isn’t talked about as much as it should be, it’s the offensive line. The Buckeyes have one of the best offensive lines in the country.

To push that even further, Pro Football Focus ranked Seth McLaughlin as the top center in Week 6 for his performance against Iowa in the Buckeyes 35-7 win.

With the battle against No. 3 Oregon in sight, one thing that must hold up for the Buckeyes to stay undefeated is the offensive line as Will Howard is going to need time to throw and the Buckeyes have been far more lethal this season when they can get the ground game going.

Have no fear in Josh Fryar though, as he’s ready for this moment and understands it doesn’t come around every week.

“Now, I feel more experienced and just ready to play the game. It’s a cool environment cause you never get to experience anything like this ever again in your life,” Fryar said via Dillon Davis on X.

Fryer also mentioned how in past big-time, high-stakes games he would feel nervous but is more prepared this season given his experience. Let’s hope that preparedness translates to on-field performance as the Buckeyes are going to need him in a big way Saturday.

Ohio State football names its ‘3 Dudes of the Week’ for late July

Look at the trio that was named “dudes of the week” for OSU football. #GoBucks

We’ve been keeping an eye on social media to see who’s performing for the Ohio State football team in the offseason, and one of the spots we like to look at is the team’s “X” account that shows off the “Dudes of the Week.”

We’re not sure if that post will continue once fall camp begins on August 1, but we know that we got at least one more announcement based on what occurred this past weekend. The three “Dudes of the Week” from this past week are wide receiver Jeremiah Smith, tight end Patrick Gurd, and offfensive lineman Josh Fryar.

It’s not the first time we’ve seen these names be highlighted so they must be working pretty hard this offseason.

We’ll continue to see what players are showcased on social media, because that normally means they are impressing with their performance. We’re sure there’s even more coming with the start of fall camp.

Three Ohio State players make Outland Trophy preseason watch list

Three more Buckeyes on a preseason watch list! #GoBucks

‘Tis the season of watch lists for college football, and we had two of them drop Tuesday. We saw four Ohio State players make the Bronko Nagurski preseason watch list, and that was followed up with three Buckeye football players making their way on the Outland watch list.

The Outland Trophy was originally handed out in 1946 by the Football Writers Association of America and is given to the best interior lineman in college football annually.

The Georgia Bulldogs lead the way with four players on the preason watch list, but Ohio State is tied with Alabama and USC for second place with three each. For the Buckeyes, offensive linemen Josh Fryar and Donovan Jackson, as well as defensive lineman, Tyleik Williams, are all appearing among the 75 names.

The Outland Trophy will be awarded on December 12 during the Home Depot College Awards show broadcast by ESPN.

Questions we want to see Ohio State football answer against Indiana

Here are some questions we want answers for on Saturday. What are yours that you want to see the Buckeyes answer? #GoBucks

Unlike many seasons for Ohio State football, there are more than a few questions surround itā€™s team this fall.

Many of the questions are fairly obvious, but theyā€™re still without answers that we all want to find out about. What the start of the season brings is an opportunity for the Buckeyes to give us those answers.

Although my questions might not be exactly what yours are, we probably have at least a few of the same oneā€™s heading into Indiana. Find out below what my questions surrounding this Ohio State team are, and hopefully, we get some answers for them by the time Saturday evening rolls around.

Ryan Day updates Ohio State quarterback race along with starting tackles

The Buckeye head coach updates us on multiple positional battles including quarterback. #GoBucks

One of the biggest battles for [autotag]Ohio State football[/autotag] during fall camp has been who will win the starting jobs at both tackle positions.

It looks like one has been locked up, as head coach [autotag]Ryan Day[/autotag] said on his Monday morning press conference that transfer [autotag]Josh Simmons[/autotag] has the leg up and most likely will be the starter.

Simmons transferred in from San Diego State, where he played for former Michigan head coach [autotag]Brady Hoke[/autotag]. He started all 13 games at right tackle for the Aztecs, which tells us more than a few things. Simmons made a successful transition to the other side of the line along with beating out multiple players who had started their careers in Columbus.

As for the other starting tackle, it looks like [autotag]Josh Fryar[/autotag] is going to get the first crack but true freshman [autotag]Luke Montgomery[/autotag] is going to see playing time there as well.

Now on to the news that all of us are waiting for, the quarterback. Many thought that Day would announce a starter by now, but it seems like the coaching staff is split between the two main competitors, Kyle McCord and Devin Brown.

I gave my thoughts on the derby here, and it is certainly a possibility that both of them will see time early in the season.

Is Ohio State going after an offensive tackle who recently entered the portal?

An intriguing player for Ohio State to potentially grab from the portal #GoBucks

One of the biggest questions marks surrounding the 2023 [autotag]Ohio State[/autotag] football team is at offensive tackle after Paris Johnson Jr. and Dawand Jones left early for the NFL.

There are plenty of in-house options in [autotag]Zen Michalski[/autotag], [autotag]Tegra Tshabola[/autotag], and [autotag]Josh Fryar[/autotag]. Whatā€™s missing from this group is experience and that is something that is extremely important in the position.

Texas A&M freshman [autotag]Matthew Wykoff [/autotag] recently entered the transfer portal and the question is will the Buckeyes pursue him?

Wykoff is coming off a freshman All-SEC campaign but at center where the need isnā€™t as large. The Texas native does have tackle size at 6-foot, 6-inches, and 330 pounds and was viewed as one during his recruitment.

Wykoff is an interesting option at the moment as the second window for transfers to sign opens this weekend, the 15, and will be open until the end of the month. Other true tackles most likely will enter the portal as well so itā€™s a wait-and-see if [autotag]Ryan Day[/autotag] and offensive line coach [autotag]Justin Frye[/autotag] will offer a scholarship.

Current Ohio State guards ranked by the 247Sports composite

Current Ohio State guards ranked by the 247Sports composite #GoBucks

TheĀ Ohio State football team has 18 offensive linemen on scholarship and five arrived in Columbus, Ohio, listed as guards by 247Sports. Now the Ohio State offensive line is in a state of flux, so some of these players may wind up at center or perhaps even slide out to offensive tackle. We previously listed the offensive tackles and will provide another list of the remaining interior offensive lineman on the roster.

This group is extremely intriguing because Matthew Jones is coming back for his sixth season to bring some continuity to the group and there are some highly recruited players entering the season as upperclassmen that need to step up. One player who has seen some time on the field and will be expected to see a heavy increase in usage is Enokk Vimahi. Josh Fryar is another player whom many are expected to take a big leap forward, but let’s dive into what 247Sports projected.

Keys for Ohio State to defeat Georgia in the Peach Bowl

What are your keys for the Buckeyes? #GoBucks

The Buckeyes are underdogs and arenā€™t projected by many to have a chance against Georgia, last yearā€™s [autotag]College Football Playoff[/autotag] champion.

To say the Bulldogs are unbeatable, however, is false, even though they have not yet lost this season. They bring a 15-game winning streak and a 27-1 record over the last two seasons into this game.

It is not an easy task for [autotag]Ohio State[/autotag] and [autotag]Ryan Day[/autotag], but that is why they play the game. For the Buckeyes to come away with a win and play for a national championship, they are going to have to play one of their most complete games of the year. There will be plenty of keys to getting a victory against Georgia and here are a few that stick out.

Black Stripe Alert: OT Josh Fryar sheds black stripe

Freshman offensive tackle Josh Fryar received the honor of having his black stripe removed Saturday, joining six other freshmen.

Offensive Tackle Josh Fryar was given the honor of having his black stripe removed Saturday. Fryar was a three-star recruit from Beech Grove, Indiana coming in at 6-foot, 4-inches, and 275-pounds.

He becomes the first of six offensive linemen to lose the black stripe. That’s a pretty big deal considering the 2020 Buckeye class includes Paris Johnson Jr, the No. 1 overall rated tackle, and Luke Wypler, the No. 2 overall rated center according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings.

Fryar was excited about the honor and had some quick words of gratitude.

“I just want to thank everybody here, thank you Coach Stud, especially, thank my O-line unit, thank my strength coaches, and I especially want to thank the defense for going hard every day and giving me a look. Go Bucks!”

Watch Fryar thank his teammates and coaches below thanks to the Ohio State Football Twitter account.

Fryar becomes the eighth freshmen to lose their black stripe including, Miyan Williams, Trey Sermon, Jaxon Smith-Njigba, Kourt Williams, Gee Scott, Jr., andĀ Julian Fleming.
