Titans add two offensive linemen to practice squad

The Titans added a pair of offensive linemen to the practice squad on Tuesday.

The Tennessee Titans are bringing in two familiar names to fill a pair of spots on the practice squad.

The team announced on Tuesday it has added guard Jordan Roos and center James Empey. Both players spent time with Tennessee this past offseason, and Roos spent time on the practice squad early in the season.

Roos also played in seven games for the Titans last season, starting three of them. He’ll provide a bit more insurance with right guard Daniel Brunskill battling injury lately.

After going undrafted in 2022, Empey latched on with the Miami Dolphins, where he spent time on the practice squad. After being waived in July by the Titans, Empey was claimed by the Green Bay Packers and also spent time on their practice squad. He has never played a snap in the NFL, though.

The Titans will return to the practice field on Wednesday and will release their first injury report ahead of Sunday’s game against the Seattle Seahawks shortly thereafter.

Giants hosted WR Michael Jefferson on visit, worked out 3 others

The New York Giants met with rookie wide receiver Michael Jefferson on Monday and hosted three others for workouts.

The New York Giants were quite busy on Monday, hosting free agent wide receiver Michael Jefferson for a visit while working out three others.

The 6-foot-4, 205-pound Jefferson was projected to be a middle-round pick in the 2023 NFL draft but went unselected after suffering severe injuries in a car accident.

On April 11, Jefferson was involved in a fatal multi-car wreck in Mobile, Alabama, and spent a week in the hospital after “multiple surgeries.” He was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident.

Since recovering, Jefferson has also visited with the San Francisco 49ers and Seattle Seahawks but has not yet been able to work out.

The 23-year-old tested well at the NFL Combine, clocking in at 4.56 in the 40-yard dash.

In addition to meeting with Jefferson, the Giants also worked out offensive lineman Jordan Roos, and cornerbacks Thomas Graham and Chris Jackson.

Roos is a seven-year NFL veteran with 23 games of experience at guard. He was last with the Tennessee Titans but released on September 14.

Graham is a former sixth-round pick of the Chicago Bears (2021) and Jackson is a former seventh-round pick of the Titans (2020).

Titans add Jacques Patrick to practice squad, release Jordan Roos

The Titans made a pair of moves on the practice squad on Thursday, adding Jacques Patrick and releasing Jordan Roos.

The Tennessee Titans have made a pair of moves on their practice squad on Thursday.

The team announced it has officially added running back Jacques Patrick, which was reported earlier in the day. In a corresponding move, Tennessee released guard Jordan Roos.

Patrick was with the Titans during the offseason, appearing in two games during the preseason. Patrick, who is the only running back on the Titans’ practice squad, tallied 23 carries for 105 yards in the two contests before ultimately being let go on cutdown day.

Roos was thought to have a good shot to make the 53-man roster but was among the team’s final cuts before being brought back on the practice squad. With his departure, the Titans have three offensive lineman left in the group, with Justin Murray, John Ojukwu and Andrew Rupcich.

The corresponding move to let Roos was go was unexpected, as the Titans are allowed to have 17 players on the practice squad thanks to the exemption for tight end Thomas Odukoya, but the release of Roos leaves them with 16.

1 veteran on roster bubble at each position on offense for the Titans

Shaun Calderon takes a look at one veteran from each position group on offense who’s on the roster bubble ahead of training camp.

As we inch closer to training camp with each passing day, the Tennessee Titans still have their fair share of position battles that need to be resolved at a handful of different spots.

While there are a few question marks atop the depth chart, the majority of these battles taking place are set to identify which players will ultimately secure a reserve role for themselves.

Several of these competitions include a veteran player or two who are right on the cusp of the roster bubble.

This article is going to discuss one veteran player at each position group on the offensive side of the ball who could find themselves on the outside looking in come roster cut day.

Some positions have obvious choices to make, while others are worthy of having a real debate. Let’s find out which offensive veterans I think are on the roster bubble heading into camp.

Titans OL Jordan Roos drags Malik Willis into end zone for score

Jordan Roos gave Malik Willis help to get into the end zone

Malik Willis scored his first NFL touchdown for the Tennessee Titans on Saturday.

It was an impressive run but the rookie quarterback needed an assist to get into the end zone.

After Willis used some fancy moves to get near the end zone, offensive lineman Jordan Roos wanted to make certain Willis crossed the goal line.

Watch as the 6-foot-3 inch, 302-pound Roos got his mitts on Willis and dragged him to six points that gave the Titans the lead in a game they needed.

Titans officially add three to practice squad

The Titans added three players to their practice squad on Tuesday.

The Tennessee Titans had some open spots on their practice squad, but they filled three of them on Tuesday.

The team announced the signings quarterback Kevin Hogan, offensive lineman Jordan Roos and outside linebacker Zach McCloud to the practice squad.

Hogan spent time on the Titans’ practice squad last season, appearing in one game. He was kept on the roster going into the 2022 offseason but was cut after Tennessee drafted Malik Willis.

Hogan fills the No. 3 quarterback role once held by Logan Woodside, who was poached by the Atlanta Falcons.

Roos failed to make the cut out of training camp but was brought back on the practice squad. He was then promoted to the 53-man roster in October before Tennessee waived him on Saturday.

A 2022 undrafted free agent signing of the Minnesota Vikings, McCloud did not make the team’s 53-man roster out of training camp. He then latched on with the Denver Broncos’ practice squad until earlier this month. He has never played a regular season snap in the NFL.

Titans place Taylor Lewan on IR, elevate Josh Gordon among 4 moves

The Titans made four roster moves on Saturday.

The Tennessee Titans made four roster moves on Saturday, including the placement of left tackle Taylor Lewan on injured reserve.

Lewan suffered a knee injury in Week 2 that will end his 2022 season, and quite possibly his tenure in Nashville altogether, as the veteran has no guaranteed money on the final year of his deal in 2023.

The Titans will try to plug the hole with veteran backup Dennis Daley, who has struggled mightily in relief on Lewan so far this season.

Taking Lewan’s spot is outside linebacker Wyatt Ray, who was inked to the 53-man roster. Ray appeared in four games for the Titans in 2020 and will likely see action right away in Week 3 with Bud Dupree and Ola Adeniyi ruled out.

The Titans also elevated two players from their practice squad for Sunday, including wide receiver Josh Gordon and offensive lineman Jordan Roos. This is the second straight week Gordon has been elevated.

Titans sign 11 players to futures contracts

The Titans are bringing back Mason Kinsey and 10 other players on futures contracts.

Two days after being eliminated in the AFC divisional round of the playoffs, the Tennessee Titans locked up 11 players to futures contracts.

The list of players includes:

  • S Jamal Carter
  • OL Christian DiLauro
  • TE Austin Fort
  • OL Derwin Gray
  • QB Kevin Hogan
  • WR Cody Hollister
  • LB Joe Jones
  • WR Mason Kinsey
  • OL Daniel Munyer
  • OL Jordan Roos
  • LB Tuzar Skipper

All 11 players were part of the practice squad this season, with Cody Hollister playing in three games. The Arkansas product reeled in four catches for 33 yards, called upon for the oft-injured Julio Jones and A.J. Brown.

Wide receiver Mason Kinsey became the first player from Division III Berry College to sign an NFL contract when he inked a deal as an undrafted free agent with the Titans over the summer. He suited up for just one game this season against the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 7 but didn’t see the field.

Quarterback Kevin Hogan played his collegiate football at Stanford and was signed to the Titans practice squad in mid-November after the Carolina Panthers signed Matt Barkley to their roster.

The futures contracts will become effective at the start of the new league year on March 16.

Tennessee Titans hold tryout with K Zane Gonzalez, G Jordan Roos

The Titans are exploring yet another option at the kicker position.

The Tennessee Titans continue to explore their options at the kicker position after the team held a tryout with Zane Gonzalez on Wednesday, according to the league’s transactions wire.

Gonzalez spent the last two-plus seasons with the Arizona Cardinals, posting an overall field goal success rate of 81.8 percent. In 2020, the 26-year-old kicker made 72.7 percent of his kicks.

The Cardinals moved on from Gonzalez this offseason, releasing him before the start of free agency. Arizona would go on to sign veteran kicker Matt Prater.

Gonzalez could get added to a lackluster kicker competition that currently includes 2020 undrafted free agent Tucker McCann and recently-signed Sam Ficken, who replaced struggling 2021 UDFA and kicker, Blake Haubeil.

In the latest kicker scorecard on Wednesday, Ficken made 6-of-7 field goals, while McCann was successful on 5-of-7 attempts, per Jim Wyatt of Titans Online.

The fact that the Titans, who have also worked out a pair of former CFL kickers, seem to be looking at everyone but 2020 starter, Stephen Gostkowski, might indicate that the 37-year-old isn’t an option.

In addition to trying out Gonzalez, the Titans also took a look at guard Jordan Roos, who can also play center.

The 28-year-old was originally signed as an undrafted free agent out of Purdue by the Seattle Seahawks. He has appeared in 14 games (no starts) over two seasons, but hasn’t taken an offensive snap since 2017.

Seahawks bring back 2 more exclusive rights free agents

The Seattle Seahawks bring back DT Bryan Mone and DB Ryan Neal, leaving four of their eight exclusive rights free agents still unsigned.

The Seattle Seahawks tendered four of their eight exclusive rights free agents on Tuesday, ensuring they will be in the fold for the 2020 season.

In addition to the previously reported Malik Turner and Jordan Roos signings, the Seahawks also tendered defensive back Ryan Neal and defensive tackle Bryan Mone.

That leaves four other exclusive rights free agents – guard Jordan Simmons, linebacker Emmanuel Ellerbee, tight end Tyrone Swoopes and defensive back Jeremy Boykins – all without a contract for now.

Neal, 24, appeared in three games for the Seahawks last year, only appearing on special teams. A former Southern Illinois defensive back who spent 2018 with the Falcons, Neal is a long (six-foot-three) DB who could play his way into a backup role in 2020, with both Akeem King and Neiko Thorpe set to hit free agency.

Mone was an undrafted free agent out of Michigan last year who had a strong showing in the preseason, but only ended up playing in four games in 2019 – appearing on 90 total snaps and not recording a single tackle.

He’ll once again come into camp ready to compete for a spot on the interior defensive line.

Of the four who remain unsigned, the Seahawks seem likely to bring back guard Jordan Simmons, who Carroll specifically mentioned as a candidate to play in 2020 while at the NFL combine.
