Titans promote TE Kevin Rader to active roster

The Titans made a pair of moves on Monday, one of which included the promotion of TE Kevin Rader.

The Tennessee Titans made a pair of roster moves on Wednesday, one of which included the promotion of a player from the practice squad to the active roster.

That player is tight end Kevin Rader, who played his first snaps of the season in Week 4 after being elevated. Rader saw nine snaps on offense and 13 on defense.

Rader gives the Titans more help on special teams and an extra blocker at tight end. Tennessee now has four players on the roster at the position in Rader, Chig Okonkwo, Josh Whyle and Trevon Wesco.

In addition to promoting Rader, the Titans also re-signed wide receiver Mason Kinsey to the practice squad, which was reported earlier in the day by Justin Melo of The Draft Network.

Kinsey was waived on Monday, along with offensive lineman Xavier Newman. The Berry college product appeared in two games and served as the team’s punt returner, averaging 12.5 yards per.

1 veteran on roster bubble at each position on offense for the Titans

Shaun Calderon takes a look at one veteran from each position group on offense who’s on the roster bubble ahead of training camp.

As we inch closer to training camp with each passing day, the Tennessee Titans still have their fair share of position battles that need to be resolved at a handful of different spots.

While there are a few question marks atop the depth chart, the majority of these battles taking place are set to identify which players will ultimately secure a reserve role for themselves.

Several of these competitions include a veteran player or two who are right on the cusp of the roster bubble.

This article is going to discuss one veteran player at each position group on the offensive side of the ball who could find themselves on the outside looking in come roster cut day.

Some positions have obvious choices to make, while others are worthy of having a real debate. Let’s find out which offensive veterans I think are on the roster bubble heading into camp.

Titans place Jamarco Jones on IR among 3 moves

The Titans now have 10 players on injured reserve after two weeks.

The Tennessee Titans announced three roster moves on Thursday, one of which included placing offensive lineman Jamarco Jones on injured reserve.

Jones, who is dealing with a triceps injury, will miss the next four games at least. Taking Jones’ spot on the roster is tight end Kevin Rader, who was promoted from the practice squad.

And, taking Rader’s place on the practice squad is outside linebacker Wyatt Ray, who returns to Tennessee for another stint after playing in four games with the Titans in 2020.

Jones was signed in free agency this offseason to compete for a starting job on the offensive line, but after failing to secure the role he was expected to serve as the primary backup at guard and/or tackle; however, has been inactive in each of the first two games.

With Jones on IR, the Titans now have 10 players on the list after just two games. Tennessee also has two players on the PUP list.

Pittsburgh area native Christian Kuntz signed to Steelers practice squad, among slew of moves made on Tuesday

The Pittsburgh Steelers were busy making moves on Tuesday.

Among the slew of roster transactions the Steelers made on Tuesday was the signing of two names that might already be familiar to Black and Gold fans.

Linebacker/long snapper Christian Kuntz was signed to the practice squad, and Pine-Richland High School graduate, tight end Kevin Rader was signed to the 53-man roster.

Kuntz, a Pittsburgh native, worked out for the team last week and is now in his second stint. He was part of the Steelers during training camp in 2019 and 2020 but was released after roster cut-downs. Kuntz was a practice squad member with the New England Patriots, Denver Broncos and Jacksonville Jaguars. The Chartiers Valley High School graduate played collegiately at Duquesne University, where he logged 248 tackles (71.5 for loss) and a school-record 30.5 sacks. Kuntz was also the recipient of two Northeast Conference Defensive Player of the Year awards and, according to Teresa Varley of Steelers.com, is the only player three-time All-American honoree in school history.

Rader was part of the Steelers practice squad for most of 2019 and, again, since the start of the 2020 season. The former Green Bay Packer played for Youngstown State University, where he had 44 receptions for 601 yards and four touchdowns.

Pittsburgh also activated tight end Vance McDonald off the reserve/COVID-19 list, where he’s been since Nov. 9. Zach Gentry, who was promoted to the active roster in McDonald’s place versus the Jacksonville Jaguars, suffered a season-ending knee injury in the game. The Steelers placed him on injured reserve on Tuesday.

The tight end moves shore up the position as the Steelers were down to just Eric Ebron for most of the Jaguars game.
