Former Titans OLB Zach McCloud signs with Cardinals

Former Titans OLB Zach McCloud signed with the Arizona Cardinals recently.

Former Tennessee Titans executive and current Arizona Cardinals general manager Monti Ossenfort continues bringing in former Titans players.

McCloud, who was waived by the Titans last week when the team inked defensive lineman Michael Dwumfour, has signed a deal to play in the desert.

Our friends over at Cards Wire note that McCloud is likely just helping out for Arizona’s final preseason game, as the team is expected to miss several players at the position on Saturday.

McCloud was signed to Tennessee’s practice squad in December but never got into a game. He was then brought back on a futures deal this offseason but always figured to be on the outside looking in for a roster spot before being waived.

Prior to his stint in Nashville, McCloud was an undrafted free-agent signing of the Minnesota Vikings in 2022, and he also spent time on the practice squad of the Denver Broncos.

Cardinals sign former Titans pass rusher for preseason finale

The Cardinals add former Titans LB Zach McCloud in the face of depth questions at OLB for the preseason finale.

The Arizona Cardinals announced a roster move Tuesday. They signed former Tennessee Titans linebacker Zach McCloud.

McCloud visited the Cardinals on Monday.

It appears the Cardinals are adding him for depth at outside linebacker for the preseason finale.

McCloud is a 6-foot-2, 235-pound edge defender who entered the league last year as an undrafted rookie out of Miami. He signed initially with the Minnesota Vikings and spent time on the practice squads on the practice squads of the Titans and Denver Broncos.

He has not yet appeared in an NFL game.

The Cardinals likely need another body ay outside linebacker for the game on Saturday against the Vikings in their preseason finale.

Starters Zaven Collins and Dennis Gardeck won’t likely play. Cameron Thomas missed the team’s last game with an injury. Neither Myjai Sanders nor BJ Ojulari played on Saturday either.

Without the return of Thomas or Sanders or the debut of Ojulari, the Cardinals only have Victor Dimukeje, Jesse Luketa and David Anenih available to play.

Titans agree to terms with DL Michael Dwumfour among 2 moves

The Titans have added another defensive lineman.

The Tennessee Titans made a pair of roster moves on Wednesday, one of which included the signing of defensive lineman Michael Dwumfour.

To make room for Dwumfour, the Titans waived outside linebacker Zach McCloud, the team announced.

A former undrafted free-agent signing of the New York Jets in 2021, the Rutgers product has appeared in 12 games (one start) during his career, 10 coming with the Houston Texans and two with the San Francisco 49ers, which gives him the Ran Carthon connection.

In 2022, Dwumfour played in seven contests with the Texans before being waived. He was then added to the 49ers’ practice squad and took part in two games for San Fran. In total, Dwumfour had eight tackles, three QB hits and one fumble recovery over nine games last season.

Dwumfour is the second defensive lineman the Titans have inked this week, with the team also bringing back veteran Kyle Peko. The Titans recently lost UDFA Shakel Brown for the season and fellow lineman Naquan Jones has missed several practices in a row.

1 veteran on the roster bubble at each position on defense for Titans

After going over the offense, Shaun Calderon moves to the defense and names one veteran player on the roster bubble at each position group.

If the Tennessee Titans are going to be legitimate contenders in 2023, the defense is probably going to have to lead the way.

The defense looks primed for another strong campaign as long as the group can stay on the field together, something that was unfortunately a major issue last season with the Titans being ravaged by injuries.

Outside of inside linebacker and maybe cornerback, there aren’t many real starting opportunities to be had on the defensive side of the ball. As a result, the majority of the position battles set to take place in training camp are for reserve roles.

With that in mind, I wanted to take a look at one veteran defender at each position group who figures to be on the roster bubble going into camp.

Some of these choices are by default due to the player being the only real veteran depth option of the group, while others could cause a real debate among fans.

In case you missed it, we did the same for the offense, which you can check out right here. Now, on to the defense.

Titans officially add three to practice squad

The Titans added three players to their practice squad on Tuesday.

The Tennessee Titans had some open spots on their practice squad, but they filled three of them on Tuesday.

The team announced the signings quarterback Kevin Hogan, offensive lineman Jordan Roos and outside linebacker Zach McCloud to the practice squad.

Hogan spent time on the Titans’ practice squad last season, appearing in one game. He was kept on the roster going into the 2022 offseason but was cut after Tennessee drafted Malik Willis.

Hogan fills the No. 3 quarterback role once held by Logan Woodside, who was poached by the Atlanta Falcons.

Roos failed to make the cut out of training camp but was brought back on the practice squad. He was then promoted to the 53-man roster in October before Tennessee waived him on Saturday.

A 2022 undrafted free agent signing of the Minnesota Vikings, McCloud did not make the team’s 53-man roster out of training camp. He then latched on with the Denver Broncos’ practice squad until earlier this month. He has never played a regular season snap in the NFL.

Titans sign OLB Zach McCloud to practice squad

The Titans made an addition to their practice squad on Tuesday morning.

The Tennessee Titans’ roster shuffling continued on Tuesday with the team’s signing of outside linebacker Zach McCloud to the practice squad. The news comes from McCloud’s agent, Brett Tessler.

McCloud played his college ball at Miami. Over six years, the 6-foot-2, 235-pound outside linebacker tallied 192 tackles (22.5 for loss), 11 sacks and four passes defensed.

After coming out of college this year, McCloud was with the Minnesota Vikings in training camp but failed to make the cut. He then signed on with the Denver Broncos’ practice squad before being released a week ago. The 24-year-old has never played a regular season snap.

After parting ways with some players and losing Logan Woodside to the Atlanta Falcons, the Titans had some open spots on their practice squad. Even with the addition of McCloud the Titans still have three more.

McCloud is just the latest in a long list of moves the Titans have made on both the active roster and practice squad since firing general manager Jon Robinson.

Seahawks work out 4 more free agent linebackers

The Seattle Seahawks have linebacker problems.

The Seattle Seahawks have linebacker problems, to put it mildly. Starting inside linebackers Cody Barton and Jordyn Brooks have both struggled so far this season and Seattle can’t seem to find what they’re looking for in regard to backups. As for the OLB rotation, Uchenna Nwosu is thriving and we named him our first-quarter defensive MVP, but nobody else is stepping up. On Thursday they brought in yet another group of free agents at this position for work outs. As of yet none of them have been reported to be signing.

Here’s a quick list of who they brought in.

Nine undrafted rookie free agents agree to terms with Vikings

Vikings load up on undrafted rookies.

Another NFL draft is in the books, but the work continues for the Minnesota Vikings with the team announcing they have agreed to terms with nine undrafted rookie free agents.

The names on that list are Virginia Tech receiver Tre Turner, Wake Forest linebacker Luiji Vilain, Tulane punter Ryan Wright, Miami (OH) safety Mike Brown, Appalachian State receiver Thomas Hennigan, Toledo running back Bryant Koback, Miami linebacker Zach McCloud, Sacred Heart center Josh Sokol and Tulsa defensive tackle Tyarise Stevenson.

The Pioneer Press’ Chris Tomasson reported the Vikings sifted through a “variety of options” at punter. So the team appears determined to bring in direct training camp competition for current punter Jordan Berry.

They ultimately settled on Wright, who averaged a career-high 47.5 yards per punt after 51 punts in 2021.

Vilain is also a name of interest on this list considering his disruptive capabilities on the defensive front.

He led the Demon Deacons with eight sacks last season, while also compiling nine tackles for a loss, one fumble recovery and two forced fumbles.
