65 days till Patriots season opener: Every player to wear No. 65 for New England

Here’s a list of every Patriots player to wear the No. 65 jersey number.

The New England Patriots are officially 65 days away from opening up their regular season schedule at home against the defending NFC champion Philadelphia Eagles.

So we’re continuing our countdown series today by listing every Patriots player that has ever worn the No. 65 jersey.

The number currently belongs to Patriots center James Ferentz, who should have more competition along the offensive front with the team using a fourth-round pick on rookie center Jake Andrews in the 2023 NFL draft.

But other standouts have worn the jersey as well, including former Pro Bowl offensive guard Damien Woody and six-time AFL All-Star Houston Antwine.

Here’s every Patriots player that has ever worn the No. 65:

Buffalo Bills roster analysis: Interior offensive line

Buffalo Bills roster analysis of guards and centers and look ahead to 2021 including Mitch Morse, Jon Feliciano.

The Buffalo Bills had an excellent 2020 season as a team, but position-by-position is a different story. Some were better than others and as the offseason is now in full swing, Bills Wire will give a quick analysis of the team’s current roster by reflecting on the season that was and looking ahead to 2021.

Next up, here is our breakdown on the team’s interior offensive line units:

Buffalo Bills re-sign OL Jordan Devey

OL Jordan Devey re-signs with Buffalo Bills.

Offensive lineman Jordan Devey was re-signed by the Buffalo Bills. The team announced the one-year deal on Monday.

Devey, 33, spent the bulk of the 2020 season on Buffalo’s practice squad. He appeared in one regular season game with the team in Week 7, playing in two snaps vs. the Jets after being called up to the team’s active roster.

Periodically throughout the season, Devey also appeared on the protected portion of the Bills’ practice squad. He was originally signed on Sept. 9 after he was cut by the Raiders at the end of their training camp last offseason.

Like against the Jets, Devey was elevated from Buffalo’s practice squad for the Wild Card meeting vs. the Colts however, he was inactive on game day. After that outing, Devey replaced running back Zack Moss on the Bills’ 53-man roster briefly, but never played during the remainder of the postsesason.

The eight-year vet has appeared in 44 career games making 21 starts. Devey started four-straight games to begin the 2019 season with the Raiders but ended up on injured reserve.

Devey likely is a potential depth option for Buffalo in 2020.

Jordan Devey not Antonio Williams replaces Zack Moss on Bills roster

Buffalo Bills sign OL Jordan Devey from practice squad, not RB Antonio Williams. Make Devonta Freeman signing official.

The Buffalo Bills confirmed a few roster moves on Tuesday ahead of their Divisional round meeting with the Baltimore Ravens on Saturday.

Running back Zack Moss (ankle) officially had his season come to an end. He was placed on the team’s injured reserve list. Taking his place on the team’s 53-man roster was offensive lineman Jordan Devey.

Positionally, Antonio Williams could have been the player most pointed to on the Bills practice to replace Moss on Buffalo’s roster. Williams impressed in the Bills’ season finale against the Miami Dolphins with two touchdowns and is the one of only two running backs on the team’s practice squad (Christian Wade).

Instead it’s Devey, who was only active once on game day in 2020. In Buffalo’s Wild Card win over the Indianapolis Colts, Devey was called up from the team’s practice squad but was inactive on game day.

However, despite not signing to the 53-man roster, Williams can still be called up from Buffalo’s practice squad ahead of their meeting with the Ravens (11-5), that won’t come till Friday at the earliest, though.

In addition, the Bills (13-3) officially announced the team signed running back Devonta Freeman to the practice squad as well. He’s also eligible to play vs. the Ravens, however, upon signing wide receiver Kenny Stills to their practice squad last week, Buffalo did not call him up from the taxi squad for their game vs. the Colts. That might be indicative of how the Bills would handle Freeman’s addition.

Bills elevate Duke Williams, Jordan Devey for Colts game, no Kenny Stills

Buffalo Bills call up WR Duke Williams, OL Jordan Devey for Indianapolis Colts Wild Card Meeting. WR Kenny Stills not called up.

Wide receiver Kenny Stills will not be making his Buffalo Bills debut against the Indianapolis Colts. The Bills (13-3) announced two players were elevated from their practice squad on Friday ahead of this weekend’s Wild Card matchup.

Neither one was Stills.

Instead, wide receiver Duke Williams and offensive lineman Jordan Devey were called up.

Both Devey and Williams have appeared in one game during the regular season for Buffalo and did so together. That game was Week 7 against the New York Jets. The Bills won that game, 18-10.

Stills was signed on Monday and some speculated he could be used by the Bills on Saturday. That now won’t happen.

In terms of Devey and Williams’ selections, the only injury concerns come via the wideout. Buffalo’s wide receiver room has seen two players listed as questionable heading into this game and both are receivers, Stefon Diggs and Cole Beasley. Most expect Beasley not to play but Diggs’ status is still up in the air.

Worth noting is that Devey and Williams being elevated does not mean they’re playing. Buffalo could still make both inactive on game day despite calling the pair up.

Who the Bills protected on their practice squad for Week 9

Buffalo Bills practice squad protections ahead of their Week 9 meeting with the Seattle Seahawks.

The Bills announced their Week 9 players the team has placed on the protected portion of their practice squad via the NFL’s transaction wire on Tuesday ahead of their game with the Seattle Seahawks this weekend.

Two weeks ago, the Bills changed up the players they protected on their practice squad for the first time in over a month. But the team reverted back to keeping it the same once again.

The four players this week, who were the same as last two weeks, are:

  • OL Jordan Devey
  • CB Dane Jackson
  • DE Bryan Cox Jr.
  • OL Jonotthan Harrison

From Weeks 3 to 6, the Bills protected the same four players, which included defensive tackle Justin Zimmer instead of Cox. The others were the same. The reason for the change is because Zimmer, who played in Week 6 against the Kansas City Chiefs, was signed to Buffalo’s 53-man roster. Zimmer was called up to the Bills’ roster for the game, but it was the second time he did so this season and there’s a two-game limit in regard to players doing so this season. Along with Zimmer, Cox was also called up to face the Chiefs. It was the first time Cox was called up this season.

Prior to Week 3, here’s who the Bills have protected over the course of their first two games, respectively:

Week 2

  • OL Jordan Devey
  • CB Dane Jackson
  • LB Andre Swift
  • DT Justin Zimmer

Week 1

  • OL Evan Boehm
  • DT Justin Zimmer
  • CB Dane Jackson
  • CB Cam Lewis

Boehm has since been released from Buffalo’s practice squad.

On occasion, the practice squad protections could help indicate potential injury designations to come this week. Considering there haven’t been any changes to this group much over recent weeks, we’re not getting much of that here.

For reference, check out our previous explanation on the “protected” practice squad situation, a new addition to the NFL this season, from our Week 1 coverage:

Due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic in the United States, the NFL’s owners and players came to an offseason agreement that we’ve seen the first installment of on Tuesday evening. Each team in the league can “protect” four players on their practice squad each week.

The idea is to provide some extra depth for teams in case of a COVID-19 outbreak in a locker room late in the week prior to a Sunday or Monday game. Those four can be called up to the active roster up until Sunday morning prior to kickoff every week.

Who the Bills protected on their practice squad for Week 6

Buffalo Bills practice squad protection for Week 6 ahead of facing Kansas City Chiefs.

The Bills announced their Week 5 players the team has placed on the protected portion of their practice squad via the NFL’s transaction wire on Wednesday, ahead of their game with the Kansas City Chiefs.  It’s the same set of players the team protected the past three games.

Those four players are:

  • OL Jordan Devey

Buffalo Bills Week 4 protected practice squad list.

The Bills announced their Week 4 players the team has placed on the protected portion of their practice squad via the NFL’s transaction wire on Tuesday. It’s the same set of players the team protected a week ago.

Who the Bills protected on their practice squad for Week 3

The Buffalo Bills announced their four protected practice squad players ahead of Week 3.

The Bills announced their Week 3 players the team has placed on the protected portion of their practice squad via the NFL’s transaction wire on Tuesday.

Those four players are:

  • OL Jordan Devey
  • CB Dane Jackson
  • DT Justin Zimmer
  • OL Jonotthan Harrison

Harrison is the lone change from their Week 2 protected players. Here’s who the Bills have protected over the course of their first two games, respectively:

  • OL Jordan Devey
  • CB Dane Jackson
  • LB Andre Swift
  • DT Justin Zimmer

Week 1’s list:

  • OL Evan Boehm
  • DT Justin Zimmer
  • CB Dane Jackson
  • CB Cam Lewis

The change from Smith to Harrison comes in part to Harrison not signing with the Bills until late last week. However, that could potentially indicate that one or both starting linebackers, Tremaine Edmunds and Matt Milano, might have seen their health improve after missing Week 2 vs. the Dolphins. Those two are battling shoulder and hamstring issues, respectively.

In terms of Jackson, Josh Norman will spend at least one more week on the team’s injured reserve list due to his hamstring issue, so it comes as no surprise that the rookie cornerback is once again protected.

A notable non-placement is no tight end being protected. Against the Dolphins, Dawson Knox left the game early due to a concussion. But the Bills do already have depth in that position via Lee Smith, who was inactive last week and could play against the Rams in Week 3. Jason Croom was also released from the team’s practice squad earlier on Tuesday.

Zimmer remaining on the protected area comes as little surprise as he actually saw playing time when he was called up to Buffalo’s active roster Week 1. Defensive tackle Vernon Butler was able to play in Week 2 though, so Zimmer was not called up a week ago.

Bills make two changes to Week 2 protected practice squad

Buffalo Bills make two changes to Week 2 practice squad protection slots prior to facing the Miami Dolphins.

The Bills announced their Week 2 players the team has placed on the protected portion of their practice squad via the NFL’s transaction wire on Tuesday.

Those four players are:

  • OL Jordan Devey
  • CB Dane Jackson
  • LB Andre Swift
  • DT Justin Zimmer

Week 1’s list included:

  • OL Evan Boehm
  • DT Justin Zimmer
  • CB Dane Jackson
  • CB Cam Lewis

Prior to Week 1, the Bills had some injury questions at cornerback, which is why both Lewis and Jackson appeared on that week’s list.

While Josh Norman is still going to spend at least the next two games on the injured reserve list, adding Andre Swift into the equation makes sense, also in regard to injury concerns. Both Tremaine Edmunds and Matt Milano left Buffalo’s season-opening win against the Jets due to shoulder and hamstring injuries, respectively.

Zimmer remaining on the protected area comes as little surprise as he actually saw playing time when he was called up to Buffalo’s active roster last weekend. Against the Jets, he did apply some pressure on quarterback Sam Darnold en route to four tackles, including 1.5 for loss.
