Baldy Breakdown: Jermaine Eluemunor a huge addition for Giants

Brian Baldinger believes Jermaine Eluemunor is a “huge” addition for the New York Giants and not just because of his play.

The New York Giants may have solved some of the issues along their offensive line with two key free agent signings last week, adding guard Jon Runyon Jr. and the versatile Jermaine Eluemunor.

NFL Network analyst and former trench warrior, Brian Baldinger, recently broke down Eluemunor’s game in the way he can only do.

“This guy has played seven years, started 45 games, played 2,900-plus snaps, got two total holding calls in seven years,” Baldinger said, via Giants.com. “The guy doesn’t hold. The guy has great hands.”

Eluemunor can play both guard and tackle but played right tackle under line coach Carmen Bricillo (now the Giants’ offensive line coach) with the Raiders last year in Las Vegas.

“He got to study under one of the best O-line coaches, if not the best O-line coach that ever coached in the NFL, (Former Patriots Offensive Line Coach) Dante Scarnecchia,” continued Baldinger.

“To have that experience, that’s huge. I think that will be really huge for the young guys to learn from him and take his coaching to help them take that next step in their progression as an offensive lineman.”

The Giants hope the 39-year-old can come in a provide an upgrade and/or depth to a unit that has experienced both injuries and inconsistency.

Report: Giants reached out to Evan Neal’s team about moving to guard

The New York Giants reportedly reached out to Evan Neal’s team to discuss the possibility of him moving inside to left guard.

The New York Giants focused heavily on retooling their offensive line over the first week of free agency, signing Jermaine Eluemunor, Jon Runyan Jr., Austin Schlottmann, and Aaron Stinnie.

Of the group, only Eluemunor has significant experience at tackle.

After their introductory press conferences, it seems like Runyan and Eluemunor are slated to play guard with Schlottmann and Stinnie serving as backups. It would also mean Evan Neal reassumes his role as the team’s starting right tackle.

“Evan Neal is a really good player in my opinion. I think he has a lot of potential,” Eluemunor told reporters.

But those roles aren’t quite set in stone. At least not yet.

ESPN’s Jordan Raanan reports that the Giants have reached out to Neal’s team to discuss the possibility of him moving to guard. More specifically, to left guard alongside Andrew Thomas.

“I’ve also heard that the Giants had talked with Evan Neal’s team a little bit about playing left guard,” Raanan said on the Breaking Big Blue podcast.

For now, Neal remains penciled in at right tackle but Raanan doesn’t believe that will remain the case long-term — unless, of course, Neal drastically improves.

“Evan Neal, from what I understand, is the right tackle only until he’s not the right tackle,” Raanan said.

General manager Joe Schoen has refused to publicly entertain the idea of Neal moving inside to guard but it’s slowly becoming the most likely outcome.

Expect Neal and Eluemunor to see time at right tackle throughout the summer with a final decision being made closer to Week 1.

Report: Texas A&M alumnus Jermaine Eluemunor departs Raiders for NFC in NFL free agency

The 6-foot-4, 325-pound right tackle was in College Station for three seasons from 2014 to 2016 before being drafted in the 2017 NFL Draft.

The Raiders’ 2023 Craig Long Award recipient is departing Las Vegas in NFL free agency for a new home in the NFC on the East Coast.

According to NFL Network national insider Ian Rapoport, Texas A&M alumnus Jermaine Eluemunor has signed a two-year deal worth $14 million with the New York Giants. The eighth-year offensive tackle had been with the Raiders since 2021.

In January, Eluemunor was chosen for the Craig Long Award by the Las Vegas chapter of the Pro Football Writers of America for exemplifying professionalism and collaboration with the media last season. ESPN Raiders beat writer Paul Gutierrez presented Eluemunor with the honor.

The 6-foot-4, 325-pound right tackle was in College Station for three seasons from 2014 to 2016. Eluemunor first started for the Aggies in the 2015 Music City Bowl against Louisville. Before the game, he won the individual hot chicken eating contest at the contest’s welcome party.

Eluemunor was drafted in the fifth round of the 2017 NFL Draft by the Baltimore Ravens. He has also suited up for the New England Patriots, Miami Dolphins and Jacksonville Jaguars. After being cut by the Jaguars before the 2021 season, Eluemunor signed with Las Vegas.

Giants to sign ex-Raiders OL Jermaine Eluemunor

The New York Giants have agreed to terms with former Las Vegas Raiders offensive lineman Jermaine Eluemunor.

The New York Giants continue to make moves on the first day of the legal tampering free agency period. They will reportedly add Las Vegas Raiders offensive lineman Jermaine Eluemunor on a two-year deal.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter was the first to share the news.

Eluemunor, 29, was a fifth-round pick of the Baltimore Ravens back in 2017 out of Texas A&M and moved onto New England after three seasons. He also spent time with the Jacksonville Jaguars and Miami Dolphins before landing in Las Vegas in 2021.

Eluemunor (6’4″, 330 pounds) has played in 87 NFL games, starting 45, and allowed 21 pressures on 474 pass-block attempts (4.4%) in 12 starts at right tackle last season.

It’s unclear if the Giants intend to use Eluemunor at guard or tackle, where he would presumably compete with Evan Neal.

Former Raiders starting RT Jermaine Eluemunor to join Giants on 2-year deal

Raiders have a new starting RT next season as Jermaine Eluemunor is joining the Giants

One of the final big questions regarding Raiders free agents involved whether they would consider bringing back right tackle Jermaine Eluemunor. That question has now been answered with a resounding no as Eluemunor is headed to New York to join the Giants on a two-year deal.

Eluemunor started 45 games over the past three seasons for the Raiders at both guard and tackle, most recently as the every day starting right tackle.

This officially puts the Raiders in the market for a new right tackle. They could end up going with former seventh round pick Thayer Munford there, but even if that were the case, they would likely bring in some competition for the job.

Should they be looking for an upgrade, the draft is said to be deep at the position, so they could look there. Or, possibly they could attempt to sign one in free agency who they feel is an upgrade just as they did in signing Christian Wilkins while letting Bilal Nichols leave (he signed with the Cardinals).

With right guard Greg Van Roten not expected to be back, the Raiders will have a new right side of the offensive line next season.

1 pending free agent the Colts could target from each AFC team

Taking a look at one pending free agent for the Colts from each AFC team.

With free agency right around the corner, the Indianapolis Colts have the chance to make some key additions to a roster that already has some promise.

Working with some of the most salary-cap space in the NFL this offseason, general manager Chris Ballard and the front office can continue to add pieces to the defensive side of the ball while improving the supporting cast for quarterback Anthony Richardson.

Re-signing some of their own players like Michael Pittman Jr., Grover Stewart and Kenny Moore II will be key. But they also could look around the conference to bring in some outside talent.

We know Ballard isn’t one to make huge splashes in free agency, but they are still going to be an active team even if it means simply adding depth.

After taking a look at potential NFC targets, here’s a look at one pending free agent from each AFC team that should interest the Colts:

What Condition the Position is in: Assessing Raiders level of need at OT ahead of free agency

What Condition Raiders Position is in: Offensive tackle

With free agency under a month away, it’s time to check in on the Raiders’ offensive tackle position to give it a condition of either Strong, Stable, Unstable, Serious, or Critical.

Starters: Kolton Miller, Thayer Munford
Depth: Dalton Wagner, DJ Fluker, Jalen McKenzie
Free Agents: Jermaine Eluemunor, Brandon Parker

Miller was his usual mainstay at left tackle, outside of missing five starts due to injury. Right tackle was manned by Eluemunor for the second consecutive season. Munford filled in at both tackle spots as needed.

Condition: Serious

No worries at left tackle. But right tackle is a concern. They can limit that concern by bringing back Eluemunor, but regardless seeking an upgrade at that spot would be smart. Eluemunor can play tackle or guard and is a good piece to have around. Munford has also shown potential, but it would not be smart to move forward with him as the only option at such a crucial spot.

1 pending free agent Chargers should target: AFC West Edition

Listing one free agent from each of the Chargers’ division rivals who could be a fit for them.

The Chargers won’t be aggressive when it comes to signing free agents, as they’re currently $35 million over the projected salary cap.

While they’re cash-strapped, general manager Joe Hortiz will make some moves to have some spendings available to them so they can sign some.

That said, I will list one pending free agent from each team in the NFL that could be a realistic target for L.A.

First up is the AFC West.

Ranking 2024’s top 12 free-agent offensive tackles

Are there any hog mollies worth keeping an eye on in free agency?

Will the Carolina Panthers be able to find the fabled offensive line depth this offseason?

Here are the top 12 free-agent offensive tackles of 2024:

5 Raiders free agents they should prioritize re-signing

5 Raiders free agents they should prioritize re-signing

All told, the Raiders have 17 players who are headed for free agency in March. They will likely bring back a few of them. Some because they legitimately don’t want to lose them. Others because it’s an easy transaction to give them another shot at winning a spot for next season.

Inevitably there will be players they want back who will leave. But not because they didn’t try. This is about those players they should put in the effort to bring back.
