Know your foe, South Carolina: Which Gamecocks can give Notre Dame issues

Who do you think has a big game on the other side Irish fans?

There is a certain bowl allure about about facing teams you don’t normally do. There is an added bonus of facing the team that saw one of your schools most iconic coaches, [autotag]Lou Holtz[/autotag], last roam the sidelines for as well.

This [autotag]TaxSlayer Gator Bowl[/autotag] has all of that and more, as both teams enter their final contest of the 2022 season at 8-4. The Irish lead the all-time series, 3-1, but the last time these two went at each other was in 1984, the only win of the series for [autotag]South Carolina[/autotag].

Much has changed since these two teams previously met, all these players weren’t even born when it happened. The Gamecocks are coming off two very impressive wins, [autotag]Tennessee[/autotag] and [autotag]Clemson[/autotag], and boast a very formidable team. Here are five of them, excluding star quarterback [autotag]Spencer Rattler[/autotag], that could give [autotag]Notre Dame[/autotag] problems Friday afternoon.

5-star Georgia target never signed with rival; coach explains why

Georgia football 5-star target Jordan Burch committed but never signed with South Carolina and his head coach explains why.

On Early Signing Day, Georgia missed out on its biggest target, 5-star defensive Jordan Burch.

Burch committed to South Carolina, deciding to stick around in his hometown of Columbia.

He is the 5th ranked player in the country and the highest recruit the Gamecocks have reeled in since Jadeveon Clowney (#1) in 2011.

However, South Carolina fans will have to wait a bit longer before things become official with Burch, as he never signed his letter of intent during the early signing period (Wed-Fri) and plans on waiting.

Burch’s high school Erik Kimrey discussed his star playing not signing early, stating he wants to do so with his teammates.

“I think Jordan and (South Carolina verbal commit Alex Huntley) value signing with their teammates, and to me that’s a reason they decided not to sign early,” Kimrey told The Post and Courier in a story published on Saturday.

Kimrey did not indicate that Burch may be having second thoughts, but that will not stop Georgia coaches from reaching out to him and attempting to land the five-star before that first Wednesday in February.

Jordan Burch becomes highest-ranked South Carolina commit since Jadeveon Clowney

South Carolina football got the commitment of the top in-state recruit Jordan Burch.

Jordan Burch, the No. 2 player in the Chosen 25, has elected to stay in state.

The strong-side defensive end has committed to South Carolina with plans to sign Wednesday and enroll over summer.

Burch committed to South Carolina over schools including Alabama, Clemson, Georgia and LSU, according to 247Sports.

He is the highest-rated South Carolina commit since Jadeveon Clowney in 2011.

This season, the 6-foot-5, 275-pound athlete had 53 tackles, 18 tackles for loss and nine sacks to help Hammond School (Columbia, South Carolina) go 12-2 and win the 3A state championship.

At South Carolina, Burch can pair up on the defensive line with a top-10 player from the 2019 class, Zacch Pickens, who was also the top player in South Carolina coming out of high school.

The Gamecocks have now secured the commitment of the top four in-state players in the 2020 class: Burch, four-star dual-threat quarterback Luke Doty, and four-star defensive tackles Alex Huntley and Tonka Hemingway.

The class is now ranked No. 17 in the country on 247Sports.

Five-star DE Jordan Burch is from Columbia, South Carolina. He’s considering UGA, Clemson, South Carolina, Alabama, and LSU.

Five-star prospect and Georgia Bulldogs football recruiting target Jordan Burch is committing to South Carolina. Burch is widely considered one of the best players in the class of 2020. Numerous different recruiting experts predicted he’d land different places.

Burch is an athletic defensive-end with a solid build. He also plays basketball and is from Columbia, South Carolina. He played high school football at Hammond School. Now, he’ll be a South Carolina Gamecock after considering UGA, Alabama, Clemson, and LSU.

He’ll give the Bulldogs trouble for years to come. Good for him for staying home in Columbia.

The Georgia Bulldogs are off to a great start in the early signing period, having already maintained everyone previously committed for 2020, in addition to picking up four-star wide receiver Arian Smith out of Lakeland High School.

With everything currently going according to plan, the next big target on the board for the Bulldogs is five-star defensive end Jordan Burch.

It was rumored that Burch was a Clemson lean at times, but now, the Tigers are just about out of the running for this talented Hammond High School prospect.

With plenty of questions still abound, Burch will end all doubt at 2:30 pm Wednesday, when he chooses between the Bulldogs, Tigers, LSU, South Carolina and Alabama.

Per the latest crystal balls from 247Sports, Burch is projected to land in Athens or stay home in Columbia, but of course, that could all change very quickly.

Georgia got the final word with Burch, after visiting with him in Columbia last week and hosting the five-star for an official in Athens over the weekend. Could that be the recipe for success for Coach Smart and the Dawgs or will the No. 5 prospect in the nation choose to stay home and be a Gamecock, or even head down to the Bayou?

With the Early Signing Period upon us, take a look at the nation’s top 100 players according to the USA TODAY High School Sports Composite Player Rankings.

The composite represents the average rankings of the three major recruiting services – 247Sports, ESPN and Rivals along with the USA TODAY Chosen 25. The lower the average the better. For players who are not ranked by a particular service, the player receives a maximum number +10 based on the way players are ranked for each site beyond the last player (310 for ESPN, and 260 for Rivals, 35 for Chosen 25).

Georgia looking to close out 2020 recruiting class with a bang

These are some of Georgia football’s top recruiting targets remaining in the class of 2020.

Georgia is currently sitting with the nation’s No. 6-rated recruiting class. The Dawgs have commitments from 15 athletes and have room for 23 this cycle.

During Coach Smart’s tenure, he has always closed the recruiting process strong and produced some unexpected surprises.

Who’s on the radar for UGA this season? The wish list includes talent that fill immediate needs and a few game changers.

Five-star cornerback Kelee Ringo from Arizona is the nation’s top cornerback and No. 1 rated player in the state. He was in Athens last week for his official visit. The Dawgs are battling Oregon, Ohio State, Texas and USC for the 6’2”, 205-pound corner, and at this moment, he’s a strong Georgia lean.

Four-star wide receiver Arian Smith from Lakeland, Florida is a strong Georgia lean. He’s the nation’s No.14 wideout and 13th-rated player in the state. The 6’1”, 175-pound speedster is expected to sign on Wednesday. Alabama, Oklahoma and Florida are still in the mix but Smith and current UGA commit Marcus Rosemy appear to be the future at the wide receiver position.

Four star cornerback Eric Reed from Shreveport, Lousiana visited Athens over the weekend and appears to be headed back to the Classic City this fall. The 6’1”, 205-pound prospect is the nation’s No. 14-rated corner and 7th overall rated player in the state. Auburn, Alabama, and LSU are pushing hard but expect Reed to sign with UGA on Wednesday.

With the graduation of tight ends Charlie Woerner and Eli Wolf, five-star tight end Darnell Washington is a must. The Desert Pines High (Las Vegas, NV) athlete is freak-like good. Washington, 6’7”, 261-pounds, is the nation’s No. 1 rated athlete and is matchup nightmare. Alabama, Florida and Tennessee are still seeking his services but but the Bulldogs are in the lead.

Four-star wideout Jermaine Burton from Calabasas, California is currently a LSU commit, but the 6’, 190-pound speedster was in Athens this weekend. The No.6-rated prospect in California is originally from Atlanta and the pull from the Peach State may be too hard to resist.

Four-star cornerback Dontae Manning from Kansas City made the long journey to Athens over the weekend for his official visit. The 6’, 185-pound athlete is the No. 6 rated corner in the country. Texas A&M and Oklahoma were in the lead but saving the final OV for Georgia is a good sign.

Four-star safety Major Burns was also in Athens this weekend. The 6’2”, 177-pound safety from Baton Rouge is a LSU lean but Georgia, Texas A&M and Oklahoma have a shot at the nation’s No. 5 rated safety.

Can Georgia make a final surge and a secure five-star Jordan Burch? The Palmetto State’s No. 1 prospect was on campus this weekend and Coach Smart recently had a home visit with the 6’4”, 275-pound defensive end. Alabama, Clemson, South Carolina and LSU are still in the mix for his signature. Burch is expected to sign on Wednesday.

5-star visitor adds to Georgia’s star-studded weekend

Georgia football is hosting a plethora of big name recruiting targets this weekend.

This weekend shaped up to be a big recruiting one for the Georgia Bulldogs.

5-star cornerback Kelee Ringo and 4-star wide receiver Arian Smith tweeted that they would be in Athens earlier.

4-star defensive tackle Jalen Carter also tweeted the same on Friday night.

And now, via his Snapchat, 5-star defensive end Jordan Burch has announced he will also be in Athens on Saturday.

Burch, a 6-5 275 pounder out of Columbia, South Carolina, is considered a Clemson lean at the moment.

He’s is the No. 5 overall prospect and the No. 2 strong-side defensive end in 247Sports rankings.

Georgia also just made an in-home visit to 4-star DB and former LSU commit Major Burns.

Additionally, there’s a few more coming to town this this weekend including 4-star CB Dontae Manning and 4-star DL commit Warren Brinson.

Jordan Burch, the second-ranked recruit in the country, announced his commitment date today via Twitter. Burch is a five-star prospect, who has been heavily recruited by Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs.

Burch is an athletic defensive-end with a solid build. He also plays basketball and is from Columbia, South Carolina. He plays high school football at Hammond School.

Burch’s commitment is still a month away:

In Burch’s top schools are: LSU, Alabama, Clemson, Georgia, and South Carolina. He’s projected to join the stacked Clemson Tigers class of 2020. Burch officially visited Georgia in May.

Burch would be an elite addition to Georgia’s talented class of 2020. The Dawgs are still seeking around 8-9 more commitments in their top ten ranked recruiting class.
