Alabama WR JoJo Earle to miss significant time due to fractured foot

Alabama football loses a key member of the receiving corps for at least six weeks due to a foot injury.

Alabama football will be without rising sophomore wide receiver JoJo Earle for the first six weeks at the very least due to a foot injury.

Earle was one of few young wide receivers to see significant playing time in his true freshman season due to injuries sustained by the Crimson Tide receiving corps in 2021. He appeared in 10 games where he reeled in 12 passes for 148 yards. He also was utilized on special teams where he returned 16 punts for an average of 5.5 yards per return.

The injury Earle suffered is a jones fracture, which is a fracture of the fifth metatarsal on the pinky toe side of the foot.

He is expected to be out between six to eight weeks.

Earle was not expected to begin the season as a starting receiver but was supposed to be a regular on the field in rotation with others.

The Crimson Tide has plenty of depth heading in 2022, with plenty of young talent returning such as Ja’Corey Brooks, Traeshon Holden and Christian Leary. Two additions to the receiving corps can via the transfer portal in Jermaine Burton, formerly of Georgia and Tyler Harrell, formerly of Louisville.

Roll tide Wire will continue to share updates and reports regarding Alabama football as the 2022 season rapidly approaches.

Former Alabama WR Javon Baker explains decommitment from UK, return to the portal

Javon Baker, former Crimson Tide receiver, has re-entered the transfer portal.

Former Alabama wide receiver [autotag]Javon Baker[/autotag] entered the transfer portal on Jan. 14 of this year. After getting beat out for playing time by some younger players like [autotag]JoJo Earle[/autotag] and [autotag]Traeshon Holden,[/autotag] Baker thought it would be in his best interest to hit the portal and find a new program.

After having multiple suitors, Baker decided on the Kentucky Wildcats a week later. He was not on campus this spring, but was planning to enroll for the fall. With star quarterback Will Levis, thinks looked promising for Baker.

Yesterday Baker announced that he will not be joining the Wildcats. There was much speculation that he had changed his mind. However, on his instagram page today Baker shared that Kentucky had pulled his scholarship offer.

Baker officially re-entered the portal today and he surely will garnish interest from multiple programs again. Baker was a four-star out of high school and a top 200 prospect in his class.

Predicting Alabama’s WR depth chart after the addition of Tyler Harrell

Projecting Alabama’s WR depth chart after the addition of Tyler Harrell

On Friday afternoon Nick Saban and the Alabama football team received a massive commitment via the transfer portal from former Louisville wide receiver Tyler Harrell.

Harrell will join a loaded but unproven wide receiver corp in Tuscaloosa and will most likely push for some significant playing time due to his elite ability to stretch a defense vertically.

It’s hard to say with absolute certainty who the starting receivers will be for the Tide this fall. Outside of Jermaine Burton, who coach Saban praised all throughout spring practice, there hasn’t been anyone that has taken the bull by the horns just yet.

With the addition of Harrell, I thought it was a good time to try and see if we can predict how things will shake up for Alabama at the wide receiver position.

First…X-WR position…

5 names Alabama Football fans should get familiar with before 2022 season

A few players are ready to have breakout seasons in 2022, here’s who you should look out for!

Alabama football is gearing up for the 2022 college football season. After an inconsistent 2021 season that concluded with a loss in the national championship game to Georgia, fans are eager to see the Crimson Tide hit the field once again.

Yesterday, Alabama football held its annual A-Day spring game, where fans and media members got an opportunity to see the 2022 squad in action.

There are still a few months until the regular season kicks off for the Crimson Tide, which will be on Sept. 3 at home against Utah State.

Sure, there’s good reason to be excited to see quarterback [autotag]Bryce Young[/autotag] take the field or linebacker [autotag]Will Anderson[/autotag] make offensive linemen look silly; but there are some players that are likely to burst onto the scene this season.

Though there are many that could be featured on this list, here are five Crimson Tide players whose names you should be familiar with by Week 1.

What the departure of Agiye Hall means for Alabama’s WR unit

With Agiye Hall not likely to return, how are Alabama’s remaining WRs impacted?

Just a few days ago, Alabama football head coach Nick Saban announced that rising sophomore wide receiver [autotag]Agiye Hall[/autotag] was suspended from the program for a violation of team rules. Less than 24 hours later, Hall entered the NCAA transfer portal.

As a true freshman in 2021, Hall’s contributions were minimal. He reeled in two receptions for 52 yards in the national championship. It was understandably difficult to see the field in his first year, seeing as he played below future NFL draft picks.

Those starters are now gone, as [autotag]Jameson Williams[/autotag], [autotag]John Metchie[/autotag] and [autotag]Slade Bolden[/autotag] have all left the program to enter the 2022 NFL draft. Now, it’s time for a new-look Crimson Tide wide receiving unit.

Hall was not expected to open the upcoming 2022 season as a starter, but was definitely going to get more playing time and likely be in the mix to take over starting role with a good performance.

Now that he is in the transfer portal and is not likely to return, it’s key to see how this move impacts Alabama’s wide receiver corps.

Spring Preview: Looking at the Alabama WR depth chart

Jermaine Burton and Agiye Hall could make for a fantastic duo

One of the biggest strengths of the 2021 Alabama football team was the wide receiver position. But now the Tide must replace its top three targets from last season in Jameson Williams, John Metchie, and Slade Bolden.

The absence of Williams and Metchie was felt a bit prematurely in the national championship game against Georgia when Metchie missed the entire contest and Williams went down early with an ACL injury and the Alabama offense fell stagnant.

Talent is not the question in Tuscaloosa. Alabama has recruited the wide receiver position as well as anyone in the country over the past several years. The question is whether or not that talent can translate to on-the-field production for reigning Heisman-winning quarterback Bryce Young.

Alabama is not only returning several young players, but coach Nick Saban was also able to grab arguably the best wide receiver in the transfer portal in former Georgia Bulldog Jermaine Burton.

Burton brings plenty of talent and experience but will be asked to carry the load for the first time in his career. A young player must step up and it starts this spring.

Let’s take a look at the wide receiver depth in Tuscaloosa.

Alabama’s biggest question mark heading into the 2022 season

All eyes will be on the pass catchers as spring football approaches.

Just as was the case in the 2021 campaign, the Alabama Crimson Tide has questions with their wide receivers. Not so much on the topic of talent but who is going to step up for head coach Nick Saban.

Last season the team had a known commodity in John Metchie III and Slade Bolden. The unknown revolved around former Ohio State Buckeyes receiver Jameson Williams. The transfer was buried on the depth chart in Colombus and opted to come to Tuscaloosa for an opportunity. It paid off in a big way as he was the leading receiver in yards, yards per reception, and touchdowns.

Fast forward one calendar year and we are having the same conversation with Holmon Wiggins looking to revamp the group once again. This year they added former Georgia wide receiver Jermaine Burton to give some experience to the room.

According to ESPN’s look at teams in the projected top 25, the biggest question for the Tide is going to be their wide receiver corps once again.

What Alex Scarborough Says…

Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

Nick Saban didn’t mince words when assessing the play of the Crimson Tide’s backup receivers in the national title game loss to Georgia. In a speech at a coaches clinic, he said there were “three guys” and “not one of them — not one — could take advantage of the opportunity they had.” While Saban wouldn’t name names, we will. The three receivers he was likely referring to were Agiye Hall, Ja’Corey Brooks and Traeshon Holden. With stars Jameson Williams and John Metchie III off to the NFL, it’s up to those three — plus the addition of Georgia transfer Jermaine Burton, the return of JoJo Earle from injury and more — to step up and fill the void they left behind.

Burton comes in with two years of playing experience with the Bulldogs. In two seasons he accounted for 53 receptions for 901 yards and eight touchdowns. When it comes to using the wide receivers, Alabama is at a different level. Especially since Georgia has two top-tier pass catchers at tight end they will likely feature.

Bryce Young has plenty of options to throw to besides just Burton. Ja’Corey Brooks, Agiye Hall, Jojo Earle, and Traeshon Holden are also going to be in the mix.

Which one will break out in 2022?
