What Nick Saban said during his Monday press conference

What Nick Saban said during his Monday press conference

Each Monday Alabama head coach Nick Saban speaks to the members of the media to give a quick recap of the previous week’s game and to also look ahead to the upcoming opponent.

Coach Saban had a lot to say in his brief time with the media. Here are a few of the quick hitters.

  • Saban mentioned that he was pleased with the execution this past Saturday from the team.
  • He mentioned that the atmosphere at Bryant-Denny has been great this season and it will need to be again against Arkansas.
  • Saban was very complimentary of Arkansas head coach Sam Pittman.
  • From an injury standpoint, Saban said that Roydell Williams is out with a knee injury that will require surgery. JoJo Earle is out for a week or two, but his injury will not require surgery.
  • On the current running back situation, Saban mentioned that you can’t really change the offense a lot. And that the coaching staff will probably look for an emergency option at the position.
  • On the progress of Trey Sanders, Saban said he did a good job when he got in the game against New Mexico State. And with the injuries, he now has a great opportunity.
  • Saban said that junior left tackle Evan Neal played very physical in last week’s game and that he has played well all year long.

These are just a few of the notes from Saban’s press conference. To see the press conference in its entirety, click here.

3 superlatives from Alabama’s 59-3 stomping of New Mexico State

3 superlatives from Alabama’s 59-3 stomping of New Mexico State

It wasn’t the most anticipated matchup of the season for the Tide, but Alabama handled their business defeating New Mexico State 59-3.

With the win, Alabama improves to 9-1 on the season and will play its final home game of the season next week against Arkansas.

Each week we usually look at what we learned from that week’s contest, this week I decided to change things up a little bit. This week let’s look at three superlatives from Alabama’s dominating win.

First …B-Rob’s explosive run…

5 players to watch during Alabama vs. New Mexico State

5 players to watch as Alabama takes on the New Mexico State Aggies

Alabama’s final non-conference matchup against New Mexico State doesn’t exactly get the blood boiling with excitement. But it is the next opportunity for the Tide to take the field and show signs of improvement.

Last week’s ugly win over LSU has many Tide fans a little skeptical about just how much the 2021 version of the Crimson Tide can accomplish. I’ll admit, I also have my own reservations about this team, but if we look at this through the lens of common sense we will come to the conclusion that Nick Saban is still the head man, and the roster is still loaded with talent. That alone should restore some hope among the Tide faithful.

Speaking of the roster, I thought we could take a look at a few players that I believe we should keep our eye on as the boys from Bama take on the Aggies of New Mexico State.

Alabama’s offensive stats heading into the BYE week

Here is a closer look at Alabama’s offensive stats as the Tide head into the BYE week.

Nick Saban and the Alabama Crimson Tide currently sit ranked at No. 3 with a 7-1 overall record and a 4-1 record in the SEC.

Now that the Tide has entered into its BYE week, I thought it was a good time to take a closer look at some of the team and individual stats on both sides of the football.

Today we look at the offensive side of the ball. Let’s get right to it!

First …team stats…

Six Tide players earn weekly honors after win over Mercer

Six Tide players earn weekly honors after win over Mercer

No. 1 Alabama was able to handle the Mercer Bears last Saturday 48-14. The Alabama coaching staff recognized a total of six players after the victory as their “Players of the Week”. Two offensive players, three defensive players, and one special teams contributor were recognized by the staff.

OFFENSE

This week’s offensive players of the week were freshman wide receiver JoJo Earle and junior offensive tackle Evan Neal. Earle recorded a team-high seven receptions for 85 yards. Neal earned the highest grade of any offensive lineman for the Tide and was perfect on all his assignments while recording four knockdown blocks.

DEFENSE

The Alabama coaching staff recognized three defenders after the Mercer win in Christian Harris, Kool-Aid McKinstry, and Drew Sanders. Harris led the team in tackles with eight. In his first start, McKinstry recorded one interception while also being credited with another pass breakup. Sanders was also making his first career start and he was able to record two tackles and two pass breakups.

SPECIAL TEAMS

Sophomore running back Jase McClellan was awarded special teams player of the week after scoring on a punt block in the first half against Mercer. McClellan also added a pair of tackles on special teams.

What we learned from Alabama’s victory over Mercer

What we learned from Alabama’s victory over Mercer

It wasn’t pretty, to say the least, but Alabama was able to get out of Bryant-Denny Stadium on Saturday with a victory, by defeating the Mercer Bears 48-14.

Nick Saban tried to warn us earlier this week when he mentioned the intensity at practice was not where it needed to be.

In the postgame, Saban mentioned that the team needs to “shake themselves or they will get shook” next week by a more talented team in the Florida Gators.

Let’s take a look at some of the things we learned this week.

Alabama football position preview: Wide receivers

Alabama is loaded with young talent at wide receiver.

Now that we have completed the defensive side of the ball in our position previews, we shift our focus to the offensive side. Today we will look at the wide receivers.

Let’s get started!

Alabama football: 5 freshmen to watch

Here are the 5 freshmen you should be keeping a close eye on this fall!

August has finally arrived, which means the college football season is just around the corner.

Alabama will begin fall camp in just a few days and with each new season, opportunities are presented for some of those talented first-year players to make an early name for themselves.

With all that being said, I thought it would be a good time to compile a list of a handful of freshmen that I will be paying extra attention to in camp. These are guys who could have an impact almost immediately, in no particular order.

Let’s get started, shall we?
