[autotag]Notre Dame[/autotag] has traditionally recruited the East coast very well and it should come as no surprise that they are still making a concerned effort in the region. During the last cycle, the 2023 recruiting class, the Irish signed defensive end [autotag]Devan Houstan[/autotag], safety [autotag]Adon Shuler[/autotag], linebacker [autotag]Preston Zinter[/autotag], and athlete [autotag]Brandyn Hillman[/autotag] out of the East coast.

As you can see, the success that [autotag]Marcus Freeman[/autotag] had in that area is impressive. They are once again looking that way in the 2025 class, as an offer went out to Maryland linebacker [autotag]Carlton Smith[/autotag].

Although he is currently unrated by the 247Sports composite, Smith holds early offers from Michigan, Maryland, Boston College, Tennessee and a few others.

Former Notre Dame signee Brandyn Hillman has found his new school

Interesting

It seemed like a very good match when Virginia safety [autotag]Brandyn Hillman[/autotag] committed then signed with [autotag]Notre Dame[/autotag].

Just last week Hillman announced that he was released from his national letter of intent, with many believing it was due to not having the grades to enroll in South Bend.

Plenty of teams showed interest and Hillman took a visit to Michigan this weekend and left as a commit to the Wolverines. It’s a bit interesting if academics was the case, as UM is considered a high-level educational school as well. Either way, Hillman will never wear the Blue and Gold.

Michigan Football: Counting down the Wolverines’ top 5 recruits of 2023

Here are their five highest-ranked prospects.

One of the rising powers in college football the last two seasons is Michigan, where the Wolverines have gone 25-3 and won two Big Ten championships. Of course, a lot goes into making a winning program, but a recruiting advantage is usually at the heart of it.

And Michigan has been a significant factor in the race for top-tier athletes in the upcoming classes as well, especially from the Class of 2023.

Take a look at the Wolverines’ five highest-ranked prospects.

Football Recruiting Roundup: Brandyn Hillman to Michigan among latest commitments

He’s one of several notable high school football players who announced their college commitments over the weekend.

The Michigan Wolverines won the biggest prize in the 24/7, 365 recruiting race this past weekend. On Sunday, Churchland (Va.) four-star athlete Brandyn Hillman announced his commitment to Michigan – after initially signing with Notre Dame back in December.

Hillman got right to the point with his announcement.

Hillman is ranked No. 9 among athletes in the class of 2023 and fifth overall in the state of Virginia. He’s among several notable high school football players who announced their college team commitments over the weekend.

Here is all the latest recruiting news, according to On3.

His loss #GoBucks

Many thought [autotag]Ohio State[/autotag] was finished with its 2023 recruiting class. Then former Notre Dame safety signee [autotag]Brandyn Hillman[/autotag] was released from his national letter of intent.

The Buckeyes offered and were expected to host Hillman for an official visit, but that will not take place. This weekend the Virginia safety visited our rivals and committed.

It’s a bit surprising Hillman never really gave [autotag]Ryan Day[/autotag] and the Buckeye coaching staff a chance on a visit but that is recruiting. The 2023 class will not change, and now Ohio State will potentially have to face the safety for the next few years.

Coveted recruit picks Michigan football over Ohio State

This is huge! #GoBlue

The big visit weekend for Michigan football has at least one tangible, positive result.

The Wolverines hosted 2023 Portsmouth (Virginia) Churchland four-star athlete Brandyn Hillman this weekend. Going into the visit, he was expected to choose between the maize and blue and rival Ohio State. Hillman originally pledged to and signed with rival Notre Dame, but he petitioned to get out of his national letter of intent.

Apparently the visit was a big success. Hillman announced on Twitter that he is committing to Michigan football. He’s the 25th pledge in the 2023 class and is expected to compete as a safety in Ann Arbor.

247Sports has Hillman listed as the No. 130 player in the country, regardless of position. He’s listed at 6 feet, 1 inch and 191 pounds.

Ohio State offers former Notre Dame defensive back signee

Could this former Notre Dame signee end up in Columbus? #GoBucks

For reasons unknown at the moment, Notre Dame signee [autotag]Brandyn Hillman[/autotag] was released from his letter of intent and[autotag]Ohio State [/autotag] is among a number of schools that are trying to get him to enroll with them.

The announcement made yesterday was a bit of a shock, but it seemed like the defensive back would be playing closer to his home state, Virginia. Hillman is now a national prospect who stands 6-foot, 1-inch, and weighing 190 pounds.

The Buckeyes didn’t show much interest during Hillman’s initial recruitment but that isn’t stopping them the second time around. He has also reported offers from LSU, Virginia Tech, Michigan, Wisconsin, and others since he announced his departure from Notre Dame.

We’ll keep on top of this recruitment as more becomes available.

Breaking: Notre Dame freshman safety granted release to play elsewhere

This is a bit surprising but good luck to him

In a surprising turn of events, [autotag]Notre Dame[/autotag] safety signee [autotag]Brandyn Hillman[/autotag] has asked for and been granted his release from scholarship and will look for somewhere else to play his college football.

According to his post on Twitter with the announcement, the change of heart is due to personal reasons. The Virginia native will probably look to play closer to home, but that is just a guess at this point.

The 6-foot, 1-inch and 191-pound safety was the ninth-rated athlete in the nation and 214th player overall on the 247Sports composite. He was recruited to play safety with [autotag]Adon Shuler[/autotag] and [autotag]Ben Minich[/autotag] in his class.

Meet Notre Dame’s Now Complete 2023 Recruiting Class

Meet Notre Dame’s 26 current commitments in what is a top-five class nationally.

After a whirlwind couple of years the 2023 recruiting class has officially been completed at Notre Dame.  What started out tremendously hit a few snags along the way.  It closed with one of the strangest signing day stories you’ll ever see when Peyton Bowen bailed on Notre Dame for Oregon, only to change his mind and bail on Oregon for Oklahoma just a day later.

In all, Notre Dame wound up with 24 signed commitments after the second signing period in February.  It didn’t finish in the top couple of spots nationally like we had hoped after it’s tremendous start but will continue to add to the overall talent for Notre Dame.

Here are the 24 newest members of the Notre Dame football team:

Notre Dame misses out on 2023 Illinois wide receiver who elects to stay home

The Irish hat was left on the table

The Irish had their hat on the table for Illinois wide receiver [autotag]Malik Elzy[/autotag] at the [autotag]All-American Bowl[/autotag] but it really didn’t seem like [autotag]Notre Dame[/autotag] was a contender. Having know Elzy since his freshman year, I knew he was going to be a big-time threat.

At one point, Elzy was committed to [autotag]Cincinatti[/autotag], but when [autotag]Luke Fickell[/autotag] left to take the [autotag]Wisconsin[/autotag] job, the six-foot-two-inch and 205-pound receiver opened things up again. During the All-American game, Elzy made his decision, selecting Illinois and staying close to home.

This really doesn’t hurt the Irish, as they signed [autotag]Braylon James[/autotag], [autotag]Jaden Greathouse[/autotag], [autotag]Rico Flores[/autotag], and [autotag]Kaleb Smith[/autotag]. [autotag]Brandyn Hillman[/autotag] could end up playing the position as well.
