Notre Dame wide receiver headed to Pac-12 … er, Big Ten

All the best with the move

Wide receiver [autotag]Rico Flores Jr.[/autotag] became Notre Dame’s first wide receiver in nearly two full seasons to produce 100 receiving yards in a game in November when he did so against Wake Forest. Not two weeks after doing so he announced he was entering the transfer portal.

Now Flores has announced his new home: He is headed to the Pac 12.

Correction: He is headed to the Big Ten.

Flores announced Friday that he’ll continue his football career at UCLA.

Flores emerged as his freshman season at Notre Dame went on. He had 27 receptions for 392 yards and a touchdown this season. His biggest game came against Wake Forest; he had those 102 yards.

Flores shows great promise as a wide receiver at this level and was the one I was most upset to see leave the program. Considering what Notre Dame has added in the portal in recent days, it seems the Fighting Irish will be better at receiver in 2024 than 2023 despite the exits, including Flores’.

Notre Dame’s wide receiver woes continues, another set to enter the portal

Another portal loss for the Irish

Over the last few days, Notre Dame football has seen it’s wide receiver room decimated, as multiple players have made their intentions known that they will be entering the transfer portal and leaving the program.

That didn’t change on Friday morning as yet another receiver, this time [autotag]Rico Flores[/autotag], will move on and find somewhere else to play. He is the fourth receiver and eighth former Notre Dame player to make his transfer intentions known.

Flores played a good amount during this past season, catching 27 passes for 392 yards and a score. Many expect him to make a big jump between year one and year two, unfortunately, that won’t be in an Irish uniform.

This further continues to receiver fallout after the firing of position coach Chansi Stuckey. We wish Rico the best at his next football destination.

Notre Dame’s leading receiver is entering the transfer portal

Farewell, Chris.

With the regular season in the books, the dominoes regarding the transfer portal are starting to fall. Notre Dame already is losing defensive end Nana Osafo-Mensah to the portal. Now, the Irish can add Chris Tyree to the list after he made the announcement on Instagram:

Tyree converted from running back to receiver during the past year and made the most of it. He finished the regular season as the Irish’s top receiver with 484 yards on 26 receptions, three of them going for touchdowns. He also has the Irish’s only punt return for a touchdown this season.

While we obviously wish Tyree the best moving forward, the Irish’s receiving corps just took another hit ahead of their bowl game. [autotag]Mitchell Evans[/autotag], the tight end right behind Tyree on the receiving chart, is out for the season with an injury. That leaves [autotag]Rico Flores[/autotag] as the top remaining receiver with 392 yards on 27 receptions and one touchdown. Best of luck to [autotag]Gerad Parker[/autotag] in planning for the final game of the season.

Notre Dame statistical leaders through 11 games

Hopefully, these players can end the regular season on a high note.

Notre Dame has one game left in the regular season against Stanford. Good luck finding a way to watch it on the Pac-12 Network, but that’s a topic for another day. Right now, let’s focus on who is most likely to help the Irish beat the Cardinal.

Statistically, here’s who is likely to factor in whether the Irish can get revenge for last year’s defeat in South Bend:

Here’s who to look for against Wake Forest.

Notre Dame has two games left to improve the quality of the bowl it will play in. That might not mean much given that the New Year’s Six bowls are out of play, but it still is something to shoot for. The first of these contests comes against Wake Forest.

Here are the players statistically leading the Irish going into their home finale, one of which knows the Demon Deacons very well:

Here’s who to watch for in the next game.

Notre Dame is riding high after winning its past couple of games. Now, it will visit a Clemson team that looks nothing like it did the past few years. The Irish have to feel pretty good about their chances. Wouldn’t you?

In case you forgot after the week off.

Notre Dame has had an extra week to enjoy the blow it dealt to USC’s season. Now, it’s back to business with Pittsburgh coming to South Bend. With the gauntlet portion of the schedule behind the Irish, this hopefully will be the easiest game they’ve had to look forward to in a month.

For those who need refreshing after the week off, here are the Irish’s major statistical leaders:

Social media reacts to Rico Flores’ go-ahead touchdown for Notre Dame

Big score.

Rico Flores was such an unknown that we didn’t even have any images of him uploaded in our system before Notre Dame played Ohio State. However, the freshman Irish receiver made his first mark on the program in the biggest way possible.

Trailing, 10-7, in the fourth quarter, the Irish began a drive at their own 4-yard line and was able to drive 96 yards over the course of 11 plays, albeit with the help of a defensive holding call. That drive ended when Sam Hartman found Flores in the back of the end zone to give the Irish their first lead of the game:

There’s no telling how this game will end. However, Flores’ first collegiate touchdown got Notre Dame Stadium rocking as much as it has all season. Social media was rocking, too. If you don’t believe that, we found some of the best tweets reacting to this big score for the Irish:

Notre Dame football releases its depth chart ahead of season opener vs. Navy

Not much to see but more than a few true freshman show up for the Irish

As [autotag]Notre Dame football[/autotag]’s social media account reminded us this morning, it’s game week.

With that comes the Irish releasing their depth chart against [autotag]Navy[/autotag] in Dublin, Ireland. There aren’t too many surprises, but having four true freshman in the two-deep is interesting.

Linebacker [autotag]Drayk Bowen[/autotag] and cornerback [autotag]Christian Gray[/autotag] have impressed the coaches enough to warrant early playing time on defense. As for the offense, two receivers, [autotag]Jaden Greathouse[/autotag] and [autotag]Rico Flores[/autotag], have also made early marks and will see the field in their first year.

Another true freshman, running back [autotag]Jeremiyah Love[/autotag] was included, but he’s bracketed with two other teammates and behind starter [autotag]Audric Estime[/autotag] and backup [autotag]Gi’Bran Payne[/autotag].

247Sports believes this Notre Dame true freshman will have a impact this year

The Irish have a lot more talent at this position this fall

If there is one position that [autotag]Notre Dame[/autotag] needs to see much more production from, it’s at wide receiver.

The recent lack of success at the position is troubling, but a number of factors can be attributed to the issues. First off, quarterback play has been so-so, but with the addition of Wake Forest transfer [autotag]Sam Hartman[/autotag], that looks like it won’t be a problem this fall.

The focus on the ground game also held back the group, but having a quarterback who can stretch the field vertically won’t make the running the ball as much of a focal point this fall.

Another reason is talent and 247Sports believes that true freshman [autotag]Jaden Greathouse[/autotag] has skill in abundance and was chosen as a first-year player who will make an impact this fall.

The Texan brings some needed size at 6-foot, 2-inch and 220 pounds and versatility. Chris Hummer, who wrote the article says Greathouse “can play outside as a big vertical receiver and can work inside as a big slot.”

Hummer also singles out fellow receiver [autotag]Rico Flores[/autotag] as another who could not only see the field early but make a contribution. It all goes back to finding talented players and so far the early returns from head coach [autotag]Marcus Freeman[/autotag]’s tenure is exactly that.
