Panthers S Jeremy Chinn sports Steph Curry’s Davidson jersey for Week 1

Jeremy Chinn broke out the Davidson Steph Curry jersey. Curry, a basketball player in his spare time, is perhaps most well-known as a Panthers superfan.

With the Carolina Panthers opening the year against the New York Jets this afternoon, we are officially into our regular season portion of the Jeremy Chinn jersey watch. And this week’s selection is a little spicy.

The Panthers safety strolled into Bank of America Stadium sporting a Steph Curry jersey from the collegiate days at Davidson College.

Curry, who was actually just known as “Stephen” back then, is the Wildcats’ all-time leader in points and three-pointers made. His inspiring run leading the barely-known North Carolina program in the 2008 NCAA Tournament still remains one of the highlights of what’ll surely be a Hall-of-Fame career.

The 6-foot-3 guard is now, at 33 years old, a three-time NBA champion, a two-time Most Valuable Player and a seven-time All-Star. He’ll also soon be the league’s all-time leader in treys, as he sits just 141 three-point field goals away from current king Ray Allen.

Oh, and in the most pertinent detail of this whole connection, Curry is a massive Panthers fan.

His threads now join the ranks of Muggsy Bogues and Julius Peppers in Chinn’s season-long initiative.

Panthers’ Jeremy Chinn wears Steph Curry’s Davidson jersey to week 1 game vs. Jets

Carolina Panthers safety Jeremy Chinn represented Steph Curry by wearing his college Davidson jersey before the season opener against the New York Jets.

On Sunday, most of the sports world turned their attention to the gridiron for the long-awaited week one of the 2021 NFL season. Before kickoff, one player represented Steph Curry on his way to the stadium.

When arriving at Bank of America Stadium, Carolina Panthers safety Jeremy Chinn donned Curry’s red Davidson jersey from his college days.

Along with wearing his jersey, the second-year defensive back jumped on a FaceTime call with the NBA two-time Most Valuable Player.

Curry’s pregame call provided the Panthers some good luck. Behind 187 total yards from Christian McCaffrey, the Panthers were able to survive a late comeback attempt from rookie passer Zach Wilson and the New York Jets, 19-14.

Chinn recorded four solo tackles and a pass deflection in Sunday’s win over the Jets.

Next Sunday, the Panthers will meet Jameis Winston and the New Orleans Saints in Carolina. With the NBA offseason still underway, the Golden State Warriors All-Star point guard will likely be watching.

Panthers ranked 12th amongst NFC teams by NFL executives

Should the Panthers have been ranked higher or lower amongst NFC teams for 2021? Or, is No. 12 just about right?

Hey, what were you expecting, Carolina Panthers fans?

Mike Sando of The Athletic pieced together rankings for NFC teams in the upcoming 2021 season from five different NFL executives. And although there’s some intriguing variance, the Panthers settled in at No. 12 amongst the 16 clubs in the conference.

The executives noted some of the positives working for Carolina heading into the campaign, including how they were largely competitive in 2020 despite only having star running back Christian McCaffrey for three games. Eight of their 11 losses in head coach Matt Rhule’s rookie stand came by eight points or fewer.

They also highlighted how the growth of budding presences such as defensive ends Brian Burns and Yetur Gross-Matos, safety Jeremy Chinn and offensive coordinator Joe Brady should only work to their advantage. A beefed up secondary with 2021 first-round pick Jaycee Horn and veteran free-agent signing A.J. Bouye has them looking better on paper as well.

Where the line seems to be drawn, however, is at the quarterback position. One executive believes the addition of Sam Darnold is an improvement, as his strong arm will help maximize standout receiver Robby Anderson. Another, though, wonders if Darnold is even an upgrade from last year’s starter Teddy Bridgewater.

As a result of the differing opinions, the Panthers were ranked as high sixth and as low as 16th. Considering one ranking has them as a playoff squad and the other as the absolute pits of the conference, Carolina is a tough group to pin down in the eyes of quite a few.

Panthers S Jeremy Chinn reps with Julius Peppers jersey

This week’s choice for Jeremy Chinn’s jersey initiative may look a bit familiar to Panthers fans.

The first week of Carolina Panthers safety Jeremy Chinn’s jersey initiative was certainly a success. But, with no disrespect to the great Muggsy Bogues,  today’s choice just kicked things up a notch.

Chinn arrived at Bank of America Stadium on Friday night for the team’s preseason finale against the Pittsburgh Steelers wearing a Julius Peppers jersey. That black No. 90 is still looking good, by the way.

North Carolina born and bred, the Wilson, N.C. native turned North Carolina Tar Heel turned Carolina Panther is more than a legend around these parts. Peppers was drafted by the organization with the second overall pick of the 2002 NFL draft, essentially solidifying his status as the state’s favorite son.

He spent a total of 10 seasons with the Panthers. He earned four All-Pro selections and five Pro Bowl selections, the 2002 AP Defensive Rookie of the Year honors and a nod on the NFL 2000s All-Decade Team over that time.

Peppers retired after the 2018 season as the franchise’s all-time leading sack artist (97.0). His total of 159.5 career sacks is good enough to sit him at the No. 4 spot in NFL history.

Chinn, as he plans for each jersey from each home game, will have the threads signed, auctioned off and donated to the charity of that Carolina legend’s choice.

Watch: Panthers arrive for first home game of 2021

The Carolina Panthers dripped their way into Bank of America Stadium for their (preseason) home game against the Ravens.

The Carolina Panthers were stylin’ and profilin’ into Bank of America Stadium on Saturday night for their first home game of 2021. And even though it’s just a preseason outing, some guys didn’t hold back on the quality drip prior to kickoff against the Baltimore Ravens.

Safety Jeremy Chinn, as promised, donned the Muggsy Bogues Charlotte Hornets throwback.

The jersey, as part of his season-long initiative, will be signed by himself and Bogues, and donated to charity.

Rookie running back Chuba Hubbard is getting ready for his home debut. He’s excited to fight for his role behind superstar Christian McCaffrey in front of the Carolina faithful.

And, behold, a gallery courtesy of the Panthers themselves. Peep that Robby Anderson look, by the way.

Is he wearing the ski mask because he’s out for the bag? He likely won’t be playing tonight due to a hamstring tweak, but could be in line for an extension in this all-important 2021 campaign.

Watch: Panthers players react to painfully bad dad jokes

What did the Carolina Panther say to the bad dad joke? Me-ouch.

What did the Panther say to the bad dad joke? Me-ouch.

*cringes*

Well, the Carolina Panthers social media team, perhaps the most hip crowd of any such group in any of the major sports, went full cornball mode during training camp and offered up their players some of the worst dad jokes known to man. Here were the results:

Oof.

Well, at least some of the guys were genuinely entertained . . . or at least acted nice and pretended to be. (We’re looking at you Donte Jackson, Jeremy Chinn and Sam Darnold.)

Hey, ya know what? While we’re here, let’s try out some new material, shall we?

What did the Panthers head coach say to the assistant who wouldn’t listen to him? You’re over-Rhuled!

How did Christian McCaffrey get home after his car broke down? By running back.

Why does Sir Purr try to avoid Robby Anderson? Because he can’t bear to see him.

* . . . looks on hopelessly for approval*

Panthers S Jeremy Chinn plans to get creative with pregame outfits

It’s not only his play that’ll continue to endear S Jeremy Chinn amongst Carolina Panthers fans.

When quarterback Cam Newton was left behind by the Carolina Panthers, so too was the spectacle that was the pregame outfit reveal. But is a current Panther about to bring that phenomenon back?

Second-year safety Jeremy Chinn hopped on the NFL Network’s “Good Morning Football” on Friday and told the crew that he plans on getting a little creative about what he’ll be walking into the stadium with this season.

This warms the ol’ cockles in so many ways, doesn’t it?

Chinn, a budding star for the Panthers, is making an inspired connection with the fans and communities of the Carolinas by the paying tribute to some of the area’s most popular athletes. And, at the same time, it’ll all be done in the name of a number of worthy causes.

First up, for the team’s opening game at Bank of America Stadium in 2021 on Saturday, is former Charlotte Hornets guard Muggsy Bogues. Bogues, the shortest player to ever step foot on NBA hardwood, endeared himself amongst Carolinians in the 1990’s for his size, craftiness and background of overcoming adversity.

So, who else’s jersey do you think Chinn should wear to the Bank this season?

He could go down the obvious college basketball route and shoot for Michael Jordan’s Tar Heel or Christian Laettner’s Blue Devil threads. Perhaps he can go a little outside the box and roll up with a Dale Earnhardt Jr. jacket.

Or he can honor the Panthers who came before him—Julius Peppers, Luke Kuechly, Steve Smith and maybe, just maybe, Cam Newton.

Panthers Preseason: All expected starters don’t dress vs. Colts

You’ll have to wait another week to see at least some of the Carolina Panthers’ Sunday best.

Sorry, Carolina Panthers fans. But you’ll have to wait at least another week to see your team’s Sunday best. Every. Single. One.

As expected, head coach Matt Rhule opted not to roll out any projected regular season starters this afternoon against the Indianapolis Colts. The team released its starting lineup an hour before kickoff while also confirming its headliners will not be dressed. So that means civilian clothes for:

Sam Darnold, Christian McCaffrey, DJ Moore, Robby Anderson, Dan Arnold, Ian Thomas, Cameron Erving, Taylor Moton, Pat Elflein, John Miller, Matt Paradis, Brian Burns, Morgan Fox, Derrick Brown, DaQuan Jones, Shaq Thompson, Jermaine Carter Jr., Haason Reddick, Jaycee Horn, Donte Jackson, Jeremy Chinn and Juston Burris.

Also not in uniform will be the crop of running backs Rodney Smith and Reggie Bonnafon, center Mike Panasiuk and defensive tackle Caraun Reid. They will each be inactive due to injury.

Wide receiver Keith Kirkwood, offensive lineman Dennis Daley, cornerback A.J. Bouye, safety Myles Hartfield and linebackers Denzel Perryman, Julian Stanford and Clay Johnston are inactive as well and did not travel with the team.

3 takeaways from the second Panthers-Colts joint practice

In the midst of more than a few scuffles, Carolina Panthers rookies C.J. Saunders and Chuba Hubbard fought hard for their roster spots on Friday.

Carolina Panthers head coach Matt Rhule wasn’t exactly doing cartwheels following his team’s opening practice with the Indianapolis Colts on Thursday. Whether or not he could actually accomplish such gymnastics is another story, but the lack of energy and execution from his players wouldn’t have inspired him to do so otherwise.

But how about today? Did the Panthers’ second joint workout with the Colts, even despite some positives from the first installment, sit any better? And what, as the squads head into Sunday’s exhibition, can we take away from Friday’s action?

3 takeaways from the first Panthers-Colts joint practice

Panthers rookie CB Jaycee Horn was amongst those making some early noise during the team’s first joint practice with the Colts.

*inhales*

Do you smell that? Yes, it’s the pungent scent of iron sharpening iron. It’s the Carolina Panthers and the Indianapolis Colts meeting up for the opening stage in their weekend of regular-season preparation.

Kicking things off was the initial joint practice late Thursday afternoon, where head coach Matt Rhule and his Panthers were welcomed in to (what’ll hopefully be for the next few days) the friendly confines of Grand Park in Westfield, Ind. So . . . how’d it go?

Here are three takeaways from Carolina’s first little taste of tangible on-field competition here in 2021.
