Black Stripe Alert! Safety Jaylen McClain loses black stripe

First one of the fall! #GoBucks

The Ohio State football team is about a week into fall camp as the players and coaching staff prepare for what could be another championship season. Part of the preparation is evaluating what newcomers might be able to contribute somewhere on the field.

One of the first steps in making that transition is the losing of the black stripe and we have our first of the fall. Freshman safety Jaylen McClain has lost his black stripe as of Wednesday.

McClain was a three-star prospect out of the state of New Jersey but has plenty of potential. 247Sports recruiting analyst says that McClain has the ability to be a starter at the college level as well as NFL draft possibilities.

While the defensive backfield is currently loaded, McClain seems to be working hard to make a name for himself. He may not be able to grab much playing time on the defensive side of the ball this year, but special teams are always a possibility.

Ohio State football recruiting scouting report: Jaylen McClain

Ohio State football recruiting scouting report: Jaylen McClain #GoBucks

Ohio State football had another dominant recruiting class for the 2024 haul and landed a consensus top-five class in the country. Once again, the class features serious star power and the Buckeyes were able to snag some amazing talent on the defensive side of the ball including a fascinating prospect from the state of New Jersey.

Name: Jaylen McClain

High School: Seton Prep (West Orange, NJ)

Height: 6 feet, 0 inches

Weight: 185 pounds

Position: Safety

Strengths

Right now Jaylen McClain has the size to play in the Big Ten and his frame should allow him to weigh over 200 pounds with ease. He knows how to utilize his size in his play too as he has no problem putting some pop behind his pads. His length also helps a great deal with wrapping up ball carriers.

NEXT … Weaknesses

Notre Dame a player for star New Jersey defensive back

Another to keep your eye on for Notre Dame…

The state of New Jersey has been good to Notre Dame over the years.  Several players who blossomed into Irish stars came from the Garden State, including Quenton Nelson, Theo Riddick, Anthony Fasano and scores of others over the years.  Running back Audric Estime and defensive back Adon Shuler are the most recent New Jersey Irish, but could another soon be headed to South Bend?

Defensive back Jaylen McClain has had a relationship with Notre Dame for quite some time and was recently offered.  The 2024 product from Seton Hall Prep talked to our colleagues at Rutgers Wire and shared his thoughts on the Irish.

“Notre Dame has been on me since my freshman year, obviously the offer came a little late but they did it the right way, getting to know me and taking their time to develop a relationship,” McClain said. “It’s great to know that Notre Dame wants that relationship with me.”

247Sports ranks McClain as a three-star prospect and the 22nd best safety in the 2024 class.  ESPN is a bit higher on him currently as they rank him as the No. 157 player in the nation and a four-star recruit.

BOOM! Ohio State adds 2024 New Jersey safety to recruiting class

BOOM! The Buckeyes have added to their 2024 class #GoBucks

It had been a little while since [autotag]Ohio State[/autotag] has gotten a commitment but that all changed on Monday afternoon.

New Jersey safety [autotag]Jaylen McClain[/autotag] made his verbal pledge to the Buckeyes after multiple crystal ball picks were made for him to join Ohio State on Sunday. It’s safe to say that the official visit sealed the deal for McClain to join the 2024 recruiting class.

The 6-foot and 185-pound safety is ranked as the 22nd best at his position and 243rd overall in his class according to the 247Sports composite rankings. McClain becomes the 14th overall commit and first safety of the Ohio State class.

McClain looks to be the first domino to fall from this past weekend and there will undoubtedly be more booms to come out of the coaching staff’s efforts.

Ohio State gets three crystal ball picks for 2024 4-star New Jersey safety

The Buckeyes are trending in the right direction with his recruitment #GoBucks

This weekend was viewed as a big few days of recruiting for [autotag]Ohio State[/autotag] football.

The Buckeyes officially hosted multiple top prospects and commits, 2024 New Jersey safety [autotag]Jaylen McClain[/autotag] being one of them. The 6-foot and 185 pound back-end defender has received three crystal ball selections for Ohio State from 247Sports director of recruiting, Steve Wiltfong, their national recruiting analyst Brian Dohn and Buckeye insider Bill Kurelic.

They are three of the most well connected analysts in the country, so when all of them make the same pick, there is a high chance it’s going to end up being correct. 247Sports ranks McClain as the 22nd safety and 243rd overall player in their composite rankings.

McClain has yet to tweet anything out about his current visit, but it still looks like it’s going the Buckeyes way.

Three of the top six New Jersey prospects are currently projected to Rutgers football by On3

Rutgers football is trending well with three of the top 10 recruits in New Jersey.

With official visits set to begin taking place this upcoming weekend, Rutgers football appears to be trending well with a trio of top recruits from New Jersey.

The three players, all top 10 in New Jersey, are four-star recruits according to On3.

Defensive lineman Jordan Thomas from Don Bosco Prep (Ramsey, N.J.), ranked the top player in New Jersey by On3. According to the Recruiting Prediction Machine, Thomas is at 33.1 percent to land at Rutgers, putting the in-state school in the lead in his recruitment.

South Carolina (20.8 percent) and Georgia (17.8 percent) round out the top three of the projections for Thomas. He is also the No. 96 player in the nation and 247Sports’ top recruit in the state for this current recruiting class.

Jaylen McClain, a four-star safety at Seton Hall Prep (West Orange, N.J.), is at 35.8 percent to Rutgers with Penn State at 17.8 percent. McClain is also a four-star at ESPN.com where he is the No. 157 player in the nation.

Rutgers football is also favored – heavily favored – to land Willy Love. The sixth-best player in the state, On3 has Rutgers at 89.9 percent to land the four-star linebacker.

Love, who might also play safety at the next level, is also a four-star at Rivals.

The trio of Thomas, McClain and Love are all expected to take official visits at Rutgers over the next two weeks.

Jaylen McClain details Rutgers football relationship, upcoming Notre Dame and USC official visits

Four-star Jaylen McClain talks about his recent Rutgers football offer.

Jaylen McClain is eyeing five official visits as one of the top-ranked players in New Jersey closes in on a commitment.

McClain hopes to make his college decision before the season starts. ESPN.com ranks him as the No. 157 player in the nation and a four-star recruit.

He is a class of 2024 defensive back from Seton Hall Prep (West Orange, N.J.).

His five official visits, as of now, will be USCNotre DameOregonOhio State and Rutgers. As of now, it appears that USC, Notre Dame, Oregon and Ohio State will be in June and Rutgers might potentially happen in July.

Rutgers has the longest relationship with McClain, the advantage of being the in-state program. McClain cites a good relationship with safety coach [autotag]Mark Orphey[/autotag] as well.

“I talk with him a lot. He’s the coach I talk with on the staff the most,” McClain told Rutgers Wire.

“We’ve built a great relationship and have kept it going from there.”

He said that Rutgers, Notre Dame and Oregon are the three programs that are on him the hardest as of right now.

USC is one of the programs that will get an official visit from McClain. He cites his relationship with head coach Lincoln Riley as important in his recruitment.

“It’s my first time going down there, I want to get a feel,” McClain said of USC. “Got a great relationship with coach Riley – we talk a lot. Looking to see and experience it.”

McClain was offered in late December by Notre Dame, where he will visit on June 16.

“Notre Dame has been on me since my freshman year, obviously the offer came a little late but they did it the right way, getting to know me and taking their time to develop a relationship,” McClain said. “It’s great to know that Notre Dame wants that relationship with me.”

Name, Image and Likeness (NIL) will definitely factor into McClain’s decision

“Obviously it’s important but it’s not the end all, be all. If you’re allowed to get money, well it will be important. I just want to play football, get to the NFL. If I do, then I’d be making more money than with NIL so fit and finding the right environment to develop is more important for me.”

McClain said that ahead of the decision, he will meet with his family, his head coach as well as his advisor, Latish Kinsler.

Kinsler is associated with a number of New Jersey’s top prospects. A former standout at Cincinnati, Kinsler went on to play in the NFL. He is also working with top players such as Yasin Willis and Kaj Sanders.

Jaylen McClain will be taking five official visits.

McClain released a top 10 earlier this month that included a number of top-tier Power Five programs with Rutgers part of that mix. He is the No. 157 player in the nation according to ESPN.com and a four-star recruit.

The talented safety plays at Seton Hall Prep (West Orange, N.J.).

His five official visits, as of now, will be USC, Notre Dame, Oregon, Ohio State and Rutgers. Dates for the official visits are still being worked out.

Last June, McClain talked to Rutgers Wire about his recruitment and where things stand with the Scarlet Knights:

“My relationship is great with coach [Mark] Orphey and ‘coach H’ (defensive coordinator Joe Harasymiak). They always make sure to check-in. I visit a lot so I have had some great talks with them and have a good connection.”

This Sunday, McClain will be participating at the Rivals New Jersey camp in Piscataway, N.J.

4-star safety Jaylen McClain lists Ducks among top schools

4-star safety Jaylen McClain lists Ducks among top schools

The Oregon Ducks are staying active on the recruiting trail, and they got god news this past week, landing among the top schools for one of the top safeties in the northeast.

4-star Jaylen McClain, the No. 21 safety and No. 242 overall player in the 2024 class recently cut his recruiting list down to 10 schools, with the Ducks listed among teams like Georgia, Michigan, USC, Penn State, and several others.

Oregon saw a change at the safeties coaching position this offseason, with Chris Hampton coming over from Tulane to take over for Matt Powledge, who left to take a job with the Baylor Bears. It will be interesting to see how that impact recruiting over the next year, particularly at the safety position.
