Now, Love is down to four programs, with one of New Jersey’s top recruits telling Rutgers Wire that Maryland, Pittsburgh, Rutgers and Syracuse will all be part of his final four programs.

Now, would Rutgers take a commitment from Love at this point? That is where things could get a bit tricky between the Big Ten program and one of the state’s top players.

The Scarlet Knights, who currently have a class of 20 commits, have three verbals from linebacker prospects.

All three commits have a strong Power Five offer list:

Love has talked in the past about potentially joining Rutgers football and becoming a leader of the 2024 recruiting class:

Rutgers football is trending well with three of the top 10 recruits in New Jersey.

With official visits set to begin taking place this upcoming weekend, Rutgers football appears to be trending well with a trio of top recruits from New Jersey.

The three players, all top 10 in New Jersey, are four-star recruits according to On3.

Defensive lineman Jordan Thomas from Don Bosco Prep (Ramsey, N.J.), ranked the top player in New Jersey by On3. According to the Recruiting Prediction Machine, Thomas is at 33.1 percent to land at Rutgers, putting the in-state school in the lead in his recruitment.

South Carolina (20.8 percent) and Georgia (17.8 percent) round out the top three of the projections for Thomas. He is also the No. 96 player in the nation and 247Sports’ top recruit in the state for this current recruiting class.

Jaylen McClain, a four-star safety at Seton Hall Prep (West Orange, N.J.), is at 35.8 percent to Rutgers with Penn State at 17.8 percent. McClain is also a four-star at ESPN.com where he is the No. 157 player in the nation.

Love, who might also play safety at the next level, is also a four-star at Rivals.

A.J. Surace makes his pitch for other recruits to join him at Rutgers

A.J. Surace believes in the direction of Rutgers football.

A.J. Surace is a believer in the direction of Rutgers football, and he wants other top players from New Jersey to join the rebuilding program.

Surace is the top quarterback in New Jersey and a consensus three-star recruit. He committed to the Scarlet Knights in February. The 2024 recruiting class has eight commits so far, with an impressive six coming on the offensive side of the ball.

The direction of the rebuild, now in its fourth season under head coach Greg Schiano, appears to be going up and improving. Schiano refers to it as a pipeline and in a recent interview with the Big Ten Network prior to the annual spring game, he said that the talent is starting to flow out.

As for Surace, he believes that other players in New Jersey such as linebacker Willy Love and defensive lineman Jordan Thomas, should consider a few things as part of their college decision. Both Love and Thomas are consensus top five players in New Jersey who have official visits scheduled to Rutgers.

Last week, Surace was asked for his message to those players like Love and Thomas who are considering official visits to Rutgers.

“Rutgers has a great coaching staff, culture, can develop players to reach their ability,” Surace said.

“And we are going to win.”

Surace is a top 10 player in New Jersey and a three-star recruit according to 247Sports.

As the offense looks to add more talent and overall depth, the addition of some skill position players as part of this current recruiting class is exciting for Surace. On Monday, Maryland tight end Matthew Ogunniyi committed to Rutgers over offers from Texas A&M and West Virginia.

“He’s a great player,” Surace said of Ogunniyi.

“The coaches and staff are doing an incredible job recruiting excellent players and people that want to be part of something special.”

Willy Love, the No. 1 recruit in New Jersey, talks about his relationship with ‘my guys’ at Rutgers

Willy Love explains why Rutgers football is doing well in his recruitment.

Rutgers football is in the mix for Willy Love, a prospect who is the No. 1 player in New Jersey for the next recruiting cycle.

The class of 2024 athlete is the top recruit in the state according to 247Sports. He is a top national recruit with prominent offers from GeorgiaMichigan State, Ole Miss, OregonPenn State and Texas A&M among others. Rutgers was among the first programs to offer Love.

He is a 6-foot-2, 200-pound athlete who projects either as a defensive back or a linebacker.

In a recent interview with Rutgers Wire, Love talked about several of the programs in the mix regarding his recruitment.

“I say ‘my guys’ when talking about Rutgers because they were the first school to look into when I was an eighth grader even though they didn’t offer right away and I built an outstanding relationship with coach Fran (former secondary coach Fran Brown, now at Georgia) and coach Shaw (Rutgers wide receiver coach Damiere Shaw), who both recruit me very heavy. And also coach Watson (defensive line coach Marquise Watson) offered me at Ole Miss and I have an outstanding relationship with him,” Love said.

“So I say ‘my guys’ because a lot of people who were in the program prior to my offer and the guys who entered the program after my offer have all had their best interest in me.”

In the 2022 recruiting class, Rutgers landed Jacob Allen, the top-ranked player in New Jersey according to Rivals.
