The Denver Broncos brought in six players for tryouts on Friday, according to the NFL’s transaction wire (via KUSA-TV’s Mike Klis).

The Broncos worked out two linebackers, two defensive backs and two offensive linemen. Here’s a quick review of the six players.

Linebacker Michael Barrett (6-0, 239 pounds) was picked by the Carolina Panthers in the seventh round of this year’s NFL draft out of Michigan. He was traded to the Seattle Seahawks this summer and then cut by Seattle. Barrett then had a brief stint on the practice squad of the Cleveland Browns.

Linebacker K.J. Cloyd (6-2, 228 pounds) went undrafted out of Miami this spring. He had brief stints with the Minnesota Vikings and New York Giants.

Offensive lineman Matt Farniok (6-5, 316 pounds) was picked by the Dallas Cowboys in the seventh round of the 2021 NFL draft out of Nebraska. The guard/center dressed for 19 games for the Cowboys in two seasons, appearing in two games in 2022. He spent time on the practice squads of the Chicago Bears and Detroit Lions in 2023.

Offensive lineman Brady Latham (6-5, 304 pounds) signed with the New York Jets as an undrafted free agent out of Arkansas this spring. He suffered a freak injury during the offseason when a hunting knife fell out of its sheath and wounded his calf. The guard-turned-center did not make New York’s roster.

Defensive back Keenan Isaac (6-2, 190 pounds) signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as an undrafted free agent out of Alabama State in 2023. The cornerback dressed for two games as a rookie and then had a brief stint with the Panthers before returning to the Bucs. Isaac dressed for five games this fall before being waived earlier this week.

Defensive back Jaylen Key (6-2, 210 pounds) was picked by the Jets in the seventh round of this year’s NFL draft out of Alabama. The safety started his rookie season on New York’s practice squad before being released in October.

Mr. Irrelevant, former Alabama safety Jaylen Key cut by New York Jets

On Tuesday, the New York Jets cut former Alabama safety Jaylen Key. He was the final pick of the 2024 NFL draft.

One of the more difficult paths in the NFL is usually held by former Mr Irrelevants. That describes the final pick in each NFL draft. In 2024, the final pick of the draft was former Alabama safety Jaylen Key who was selected by the New York Jets. On Tuesday, Key was cut by the Jets in a series of roster moves.

Key performed well for the Jets this offseason. He played in 132 defensive snaps and recorded 11 tackles in three preseason games.

Given the fact that Key has been waived, other teams will now have the opportunity to claim him off of waivers. If he goes unclaimed, he will then have the opportunity to sign with any team.

Key’s NFL journey will likely continue. He will likely sign with a team on a practice squad deal. Key bring value at the safety position given his range and versatility. In one season at Alabama, Key played in 12 games. He recorded 60 tackles and one interception.

Roll Tide Wire will continue to follow the latest regarding former Alabama players in the NFL.

Florida makes, the NFL takes: Sunshine State had most 2024 NFL draft picks

What state led the way in this spring’s NFL draft?

How about them apples for the ‘Sunshine State’? Over the weekend, 30 former high school football players from Florida were taken in the NFL draft. It was the highest production of NFL draft talent from any state.

There are plenty of reasons why Florida is so prolific in producing Power Five talent and NFL draft picks. The third most-populated state in the nation, Florida continues to grow and add population.

The climate is conducive to year-round training which also leads to a very strong 7-on-7 culture during the spring and the summer, further developing players. The popularity of track as well gives Florida an inside track (pardon the pun) on developing unique athletes for the NFL.

College coaches know that there is speed, and then there is Florida speed.

Texas had 24 NFL draft picks followed by Georgia with 23.

The first pick in the draft, Caleb Williams, was one of four selections from Washington, D.C. The last pick of the draft, Jaylen Key is fittingly from Florida. He played his college football at Alabama.

The three-day NFL draft was held this year in Detroit, Michigan. Seven total selections from Michigan were taken in the draft this year.

Jaylen Key becomes ‘Mr. Irrelevant’ as New York Jets select the former Alabama DB

Jaylen Key tabbed as Mr. Irrelevant after being selected by the New York Jets in the 2024 NFL draft!

With the final pick in the 2024 NFL draft, the New York Jets have selected former Alabama Crimson Tide defensive back Jaylen Key as he earns the infamous title of “Mr. Irrelevant”.

Key is the second former Crimson Tide player to be chosen with the final pick in the draft joining fellow defensive back Ramzee Robinson who earned the title in 2007.

Key spent just one season in Tuscaloosa and despite battling some injuries, played well for [autotag]Nick Saban[/autotag] and the Alabama defense.

In his lone season with the Tide, Key appeared in 12 games totaling 60 tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss, and one interception.

Broncos met with safety Jaylen Key at the NFL combine

The Broncos met with Alabama safety Jaylen Key at the NFL combine. He’s projected to be a late-round pick or UDFA.

The Denver Broncos met with Alabama’s Jaylen Key at the NFL combine earlier this offseason, the safety revealed during his media availability in Indianapolis in February.

Key (6-1, 208 pounds) ran a 40-yard dash in 4.6 seconds and a 10-yard split in 1.59 seconds at the combine. He spent four years at UAB before transferring to Alabama ahead of the 2023 season.

In 24 games with the Blazers, Key recorded 78 tackles, three interceptions, two forced fumbles, two pass breakups and one sack. Playing for the Crimson Tide last fall, Key totaled 60 tackles and one sack.

Key is projected to be a late-round pick or undrafted free agent this spring. The Broncos do not hold a seventh-round pick, so barring a trade into the final round, Denver is likely considering Key as a potential UDFA target.

The Broncos have a promising safety trio of P.J. Locke, Brandon Jones and Caden Sterns, but more depth wouldn’t hurt. The NFL draft will be held in Detroit from April 25-27.

Nick Saban updates injury status of Deontae Lawson, Jaylen Key ahead of Iron Bowl

Could Alabama football be getting two starters back on defense this weekend?

Alabama football head coach [autotag]Nick Saban[/autotag] wrapped up his Wednesday afternoon press conference moments ago and delivered some promising news on a pair of injured Alabama defenders.

Starting linebacker Deontae Lawson and starting safety Jaylen Key, who have both missed back-to-back games with injuries seem to be on track to make their return to the Alabama lineup this weekend when the Crimson Tide take on the Auburn Tigers in the Iron Bowl.

“They both practiced quite a bit this week. We’ll see how they continue to progress.”

Getting both Lawson and Key back this weekend would be huge for the Alabama defense. Lawson is widely considered one of the top inside linebackers in the SEC and Key is a veteran defensive back that provides the Alabama secondary with more depth and versatility.

Roll Tide Wire will continue to monitor the status of both Lawson and Key as the Iron Bowl draws closer.

Alabama Football injury report heading into Week 2 vs. Texas Longhorns

Roll Tide Wire takes a look at Alabama football’s injury report heading into Week 2 versus No. 11 Texas.

Alabama had a convincing win over Middle Tennessee State in the season opener on Saturday. However, several players suffered injuries during the game. Defensive backs Jaylen Key and Malachi Moore both left the game with injuries and did not return.

Saban was able to provide the latest on Monday afternoon. “They’re both day-to-day,” Saban said, “It’s probably too early to tell what their circumstance will be.” He would also go on to add that neither injury appears to be a long-term issue.

That is good news considering that Moore and Key are key pieces to Alabama’s secondary. The two of them played well in Week 1 against the Blue Raiders offense.

Another player that was expected to contribute in Alabama’s wide receiver room is sophomore Emmanuel Henderson. Saban was able to elaborate on why Henderson was spotted with crutches. “He has a hip injury,” Saban said, “It’s going to probably be a few more weeks before he gets back into the swing of things but hard to know exactly when.”

According to Saban, Henderson was also having a “great fall camp”. The Alabama native will provide a boost to Alabama’s receiving core when he is cleared to return.

Roll Tide Wire will continue to follow Alabama football and its latest injury updates.

Alabama DB Jaylen Key suffers injury vs. MTSU in season opener

DB Jaylen Key heads to locker room before half with injury.

Late in the second half, Alabama DB Jaylen Key was taken to the locker room after suffering an injury against Middle Tennessee State. The severity of the injury is unknown, but it was bad enough that he was not able to finish out the first half.

Key made the defensive play of the first half by picking off the Blue Raiders shortly before half which eventually led to a touchdown. Hopefully, it is nothing serious as he was one of the best-looking players for Alabama in the first half. The Tide secondary looks as if they’ll be the strength of this defense, so losing Key would be a very tough loss.

Alabama takes a 28-0 lead into halftime against the Raiders. Key’s health will be the most important question for Tide fans.

Social Media loses it after Alabama defense forces first turnover of the season

Social media reacts to Crimson Tide’s first turnover the year

The Alabama Crimson Tide currently leads Middle Tennessee State in their 2023 season opener. The Tide rushed out to an early lead, but the offense got stagnant after the second drive. Fortunately, the defense has been outstanding as they are currently pitching a shutout.

The Raiders were driving into Crimson Tide territory late in the second quarter before the Alabama defense forced their first turnover of the season. Jaylen Key, a grad transfer from UAB, intercepted Middle Tennessee State QB Nicholas Vattiato to get the Tide offense back on the field before the half.

The Tide secondary has looked phenomenal to start the season and we will need to continue to see explosive plays like this all season long. Social media had a lot to say about the new Alabama secondary!
