Where Georgia football ranks in key statistics

Georgia football is off to a slow start in the red zone, but has a good turnover margin and excellent scoring defense

The Georgia Bulldogs have started slow in all three games to begin the 2023 college football season. The Bulldogs have struggled in the red zone. Georgia’s red zone issues made last week’s game against South Carolina a lot more competitive than it should have been.

Georgia quarterback Carson Beck has done a great job of taking care of the football. Georgia’s offense only has one turnover, but the offense has not been particularly explosive through three weeks.

Defensively, Georgia’s run defense is off to a slow start when compared to Georgia’s sky-high run defense standards. The Georgia defense is doing an excellent job of getting stops on third down.

Kirby Smart gives injury update on UGA safety Javon Bullard

Kirby Smart gives injury update on star Georgia football safety Javon Bullard ahead of UAB game

Georgia Bulldogs standout safety Javon Bullard went down in first quarter of the Ball State game with an ankle injury. Bullard was unable to play against South Carolina after he tried to give it a go in warmups.

Georgia safety David Daniel-Sisavanh started in place of Bullard against South Carolina. Safety Dan Jackson, who had a fourth quarter interception against South Carolina, also saw more action in Bullard’s absence. Sophomore safety Malaki Starks is Georgia’s other starter.

Georgia head coach Kirby Smart noted on Sept. 19 that Bullard has not returned to practice, so it is unlikely he will play in Week 4 against UAB.

He (Bullard) hasn’t been able to do much. He warmed up (against South Carolina), didn’t feel great in warmups, so we shut him down and hasn’t done much this week in terms of practice. I asked him today, and he is underwater running, got a boot on, but he has not been able to practice.

Bullard is a key cog in the Georgia defense. He was named the defensive MVP of national championship and the College Football Playoff semifinal against Ohio State. Bullard is playing safety, which is his usual position, after playing the star position at a high level in 2022.

Bullard’s combination of speed and sure tackling helps the Georgia pass and run defense play at an elite level. Bullard finished last season with two interceptions, 46 tackles, and 3.5 sacks. Bullard was a 2023 preseason All-SEC selection.

Alabama DB Jaylen Key suffers injury vs. MTSU in season opener

DB Jaylen Key heads to locker room before half with injury.

Late in the second half, Alabama DB Jaylen Key was taken to the locker room after suffering an injury against Middle Tennessee State. The severity of the injury is unknown, but it was bad enough that he was not able to finish out the first half.

Key made the defensive play of the first half by picking off the Blue Raiders shortly before half which eventually led to a touchdown. Hopefully, it is nothing serious as he was one of the best-looking players for Alabama in the first half. The Tide secondary looks as if they’ll be the strength of this defense, so losing Key would be a very tough loss.

Alabama takes a 28-0 lead into halftime against the Raiders. Key’s health will be the most important question for Tide fans.

Catching up with the Boston Celtics’ 2023 NBA draft workouts Part IV

Let’s dive into who the Celtics might be targeting at No. 35.

Even with the offseason here in earnest, the Boston Celtics have plenty on their plate regarding their future as they continue to work out prospects projected to go in the second round of the ’23 NBA draft.

With the Celtics likely to need cheap depth in the future, look for prospects who are either polished enough to get some real minutes in their rookie campaign or who might be okay with a season or two stashed abroad while the team makes decisions about how it will use the new two way player slot added to rosters in the latest collective bargaining agreement recently adopted by the league.

Adding to our previous reporting of the team’s known workouts comes a new wave of prospects Boston has been working out — let’s dive into who the Celtics might be targeting at No. 35.

College Football News names Georgia’s potential letdown game of 2023

Do you agree that this could be Georgia’s potential ‘letdown game’

Pete Fiutak of College Football News recently identified the potential letdown game for every Power Five team in the Football Bowl Subdivision for the 2023 season.

This season, there’s no denying Georgia has a very navigable schedule. But there’s always that one game where it may not play to its full potential. Fiutak thinks Georgia’s letdown game of 2023 could come in Week 4 against UAB.

This should be a wipeout, right? Think Kent State last year. Trent Dilfer’s club will likely be blasted, but it might be an unfocused performance for the two-time defending champs with South Carolina before and at Auburn to follow.

Georgia last played UAB during the 2021 season, with the Bulldogs winning 56-7.

In describing what constitutes a letdown game, he explains it as a game your team should win, but maybe the team overlooked the opponent. Or maybe it’s a sandwich game, which Fiutak describes as “the games in between two more important, bigger battles.”

He actually used Georgia’s 2022 win over Kent State as an example for what a letdown game could look like. That was one of Georgia’s worst showings last year, and Kent State forced three UGA turnovers and put up 22 points on the Bulldogs.

Report: Eric Gaines worked out for the Thunder in pre-draft visit

Eric Gaines spent three seasons in college with LSU & UAB.

The 2023 NBA draft is less than a month away, which means the Oklahoma City Thunder continue to meet with prospects.

One of those prospects who reportedly worked out for the Thunder is UAB guard Eric Gaines, according to Pistons Draft Talk Scouting on Twitter.

In 39 games last season, Gaines averaged 11.5 points on 39.4% shooting, 3.4 rebounds and 4.3 assists. He also shot 34.3% from 3 on 2.8 attempts. The 22-year-old played three college seasons (2020-2023), the first two at LSU and the last at UAB.

Gaines is projected to be a late second-round pick or an undrafted free agent, which means the Thunder could select him with their No. 50 pick.

The 2023 NBA draft is scheduled for Thursday, June 22. A full list of prospects who’ve met with the Thunder can be read here.

One under-the-radar player to watch from the NFL draft’s six weakest position groups

We’re looking at one under-the-radar player to watch from the 2023 NFL draft’s six weakest position groups

This year’s NFL draft class offers high-end talent, but some positions offer more talent than others, including a tight-end group that could become one of the best we’ve seen in a long time.

That’s not an early-round need for Philadelphia; while edge rusher and cornerback offer the most depth, it’s not an overall deep draft, and GM Howie Roseman will likely look for elite talent in the first 100 picks.

With the selection process just one week away from today, here’s one under-the-radar prospect to watch from the draft’s six weakest position groups.
