Vikings add cornerback before preseason finale

The Vikings continue to make roster moves, this time solidifying their cornerback depth

The Minnesota Vikings announced on Friday afternoon two roster moves in signing cornerback Jameson Houston and waived OT Chim Okorafor.

The Vikings brought in Okorafor on August 14th as offensive tackle depth and waived OT Jacky Chen in the process.

They brought in cornerback depth in Houston, which is important before the final preseason game of the year with minor injuries at the position.

Houston has been around the block in the world of professional football. After going undrafted in 2020, Houston signed with the Cleveland Browns. During his NFL career, Houston spent time with the Browns, Carolina Panthers, Philadelphia Eagles, Jacksonville Jaguars and Seattle Seahawks.

Houston also spent time in both spring leagues, playing with the USFL’s Michigan Panthers in 2022 where he got two interceptions. He also played with the 2023 XFL’s San Antonio Brahmas.

This is a depth signing for the Vikings with the potential of Houston earning a spot on the practice squad.

Seahawks planning to sign free agent CB Jameson Houston

With their cornerback rotation shortened by injuries, the Seattle Seahawks are looking to add some depth at this position.

With their cornerback rotation shortened by injuries, the Seattle Seahawks are looking to add some extra depth at this position. To recap, second-year DB Tre Brown is still on the PUP list, veteran Artie Burns has a groin issue and starting LCB Sidney Jones is out with a concussion, so it makes sense to bring in some extra help.

According to a report by Brady Henderson at ESPN, Seattle is planning to sign free agent corner Jameson Houston, who came in for a workout last week.

Houston (5-foot-11, 200 pounds) played his college football at Baylor.

After his Senior season, Houston went undrafted and had brief stints with the Browns and the Panthers in August 2020 before he eventually signed with the Eagles. He appeared in three games late that year, working exclusively on special teams. He was picked in the fifth round of this year’s USFL draft by the Michigan Panthers.

Update:

The team has announced the signing. To make room for Houston, they have waived guard Keenan Forbes.

Jags waive 1 player on offense, 2 on defense

To get their roster to 80 players, the Jags waived OG Derwin Gray, CB Jameson Houston, and DT Kenny Randall in addition to placing Travis Etienne on IR Tuesday.

The Jacksonville Jaguars had some roster moves to make Tuesday to trim their roster down to 80 and decided to waive three players. Those three players were guard Derwin Gray, cornerback Jameson Houston, and defensive tackle Kenny Randall.

In addition to these moves, the Jags also put first-round pick Travis Etienne on injured reserve after he sustained a foot injury that will require surgery.

Gray, who saw the field for just two special teams snaps Monday, joined the Jags last December after the Jags added him off waivers. He previously played for the Pittsburgh Steelers where he participated in five games.

Houston was a player the Jags acquired this offseason for a 2023 sixth-round draft selection and former cornerback Josiah Scott. He saw the field for 10 defensive snaps and eight special-teams snaps against the New Orleans Saints Monday.

Lastly, Randall was a player the Jags signed in undrafted free agency out of Charleston (West Virginia) after April’s draft. He took the field for nine defensive snaps in the Jags’ last preseason game but wasn’t able to register a tackle.

The Philadelphia Eagles landed themselves a cornerback, but it’s not Steven Nelson. According to Adam Schefter of ESPN.com, the Eagles are trading cornerback Jameson Houston and a 2023 sixth-round pick to the Jaguars for Josiah Scott.

Originally drafted by Jacksonville in the fourth round (137th overall) of the 2020 draft, Scott saw action in six games during his rookie campaign, logging 11 tackles (10 solo) and one tackle for loss.

A three-year letter winner at Michigan State, Scott started 30 career games and finished his career ranked tied for 12th in Spartan history with 32 passes defended, 98 tackles, two tackles for loss, and one forced fumble.

[jwplayer hXGqKWXS]

The Philadelphia Eagles got back into the win column on Sunday, with an impressive 24-21 win over the visiting New Orleans Saints.

Jalen Hurts got the start and several other Eagles played key roles against the Saints due to injuries in the secondary.

Here’s the Eagles snap count for Sunday afternoon, as the offense logged 69 snaps, to the defenses 63.

Quarterback: Jalen Hurts 69 snaps

There was no gadget plays or two quarterbacks to gameplan for, as Hurts logged all 69 snaps in his first NFL start. The rookie rushed for over 100 yards in his first NFL start and gave the Eagles the spark they were in need of.

Running Back: Miles Sanders 56 snaps, Boston Scott 15 snaps, Corey Clement 2 snaps

The Eagles reduced Scott’s snaps and finally allowed Miles Sanders to eat. The results were 100-yard rushing for the talented running back and one explosive 82-yard TD Run.

Wide Receiver: Greg Ward 51 snaps, Jalen Reagor 47 snaps, Alshon Jeffery 31 snaps, Quez Watkins 22 snaps, Travis Fulgham 11

Fulgham has slowly been phased out of the Eagles offense after breaking out in Week 4, while Alshon Jeffery recorded his first touchdown catch of the season.

Tight End: Dallas Goedert 59 snaps, Zach Ertz 50 snaps, Richard Rodgers 2 snaps

The Eagles two tight ends combined for six catches, with Goedert logging four for 43 yards.

Offensive Line: Isaac Seumalo 69 snaps, Jordan Mailata 69 snaps, Jason Kelce 69 snaps, Nate Herbig 69 snaps, Jack Driscoll 69 snaps

With Jason Peters’ season over, the Eagles offensive line all logged 69 game snaps and avoided yielding a sack for the first time this season.

Defensive Line: Fletcher Cox 50 snaps, Brandon Graham 42 snaps, Javon Hargrave 42 snaps, Derek Barnett 38 snaps, Josh Sweat 25 snaps, Vinny Curry 25 snaps, Malik Jackson 25 snaps, Raequan Williams 9 snaps

The Eagles defensive line played arguably their most complete game of the season, with Javon Hargrave and Josh Sweat both logging two sacks.

Linebacker: Alex Singleton 63 snaps, Duke Riley 57 snaps, Shaun Bradley 10 snaps

The Eagles were able to contain Taysom Hill and most importantly, Alvin Kamara, with Alex Singleton and Duke Riley. Riley had one of the game’s biggest plays when he intercepted a tipped Taysom Hill pass.

Defensive Back: Jalen Mills 63 snaps, Nickell Robey-Coleman 55 snaps, Marcus Epps 35 snaps, Kevon Seymour 35 snaps, Rodney McLeod 35 snaps, Darius Slay 35 snaps, K’Von Wallace 28 snaps, Avonte Maddox 21 snaps

The Eagles used 8 different defensive backs on Sunday after Avonte Maddox, Darius Slay, and Rodney McLeod all left the game with injuries. Rookie K’Von Wallace so an uptick in snaps, while Kevon Seymour was forced into action after Slay suffered a head injury.
