10 former Ravens are signed to UFL teams

With the NFL season now in the rearview and the UFL set to debut, we’re looking at 10 former Baltimore Ravens who are participating in the spring league

With the NFL season now complete and the offseason underway, Baltimore has one of the most extended lists of players who are getting another shot in the new eight-team UFL, which kicks off season kicks off on Saturday, March 30, 2024, with the battle of the 2023 champions: Arlington Renegades vs Birmingham Stallions.

A combination agreement (the “UFL”) is the premier spring football league that resulted from the merger of the XFL and USFL.

Russ Brandon, former President and CEO of the XFL, will lead the UFL as President and CEO. Former USFL President of Football Operations Daryl Johnston will lead football operations.

Founded in 2001, the XFL was a collaboration between NBC and WWF (WWE), spearheaded by Vince McMahon. After a hot start, poor ratings ultimately led to the league’s lasting just one season. The league returned in 2020, with McMahon again leading the reboot, but it had to close its doors again after COVID-19 shut things down after just five weeks.

The league filed for bankruptcy and was forced to sell.

A group headed by Dany Garcia, including Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, bought the league out of bankruptcy for $15 million, eyeing 2023 as its return season.

The UFL has eight teams in Arlington (TX), Birmingham (AL), Detroit (MI), Houston (TX), San Antonio (TX), Memphis (TN), St. Louis (MO), and Washington D.C.

With action to begin this weekend, we’re looking at 10 former Ravens on UFLrosters.

Philadelphia Eagles waive WR Deontay Burnett

As the Eagles look to make moves on the free-agent front, a roster spot has been opened up after the team waived wide receiver Deontay Burnett with a non-injury designation per Adam Caplan via NFL Communications.

Burnett was waived at the end of training camp and re-signed to the practice squad three days later.

He was elevated to the active roster for the team’s weeks 3 and 4 games against the Cincinnati Bengals and San Francisco 49ers and reverted to the practice squad after each game.

This season, Burnett played in 2 games, logging 3 receptions for 19 yards before signing a reserve/future contract with the Eagles in January.

Eagles activate WR Deontay Burnett from the Practice Squad COVID-19 list

The Philadelphia Eagles just announced that they’ve activated wide receiver Deontay Burnett from the practice squad COVID-19 list.

Burnett was placed on the list because he was identified as a close contact to JJ Arcega-Whiteside, who tested positive for the virus two weeks ago. Burnett cleared the league’s protocols and he’s allowed to return to the team.

J.J. Arcega-Whiteside among 3 Eagles’ wide receivers placed on reserve/COVID-19 list

The coronavirus pandemic has impacted the Eagles once again.

The coronavirus pandemic has impacted the Eagles once again and Geoff Mosher is reporting that Philadelphia is placing wide receivers J.J. Arcega-Whiteside, John Hightower, and Deontay Burnett on the reserve/COVID-19 list.

Tim McManus of ESPN.com confirmed the news.

The Eagles confirmed the news and released this statement on the matter.

The Reserve/COVID-19 list was created for a player who either tests positive for COVID-19 or who has been in close contact with an infected person or persons.

For Arcega-Whiteside, it means if he’s not showing symptoms, he can return 10 days after the positive test or within 5 days if he tests negative twice.

Hightower and Burnett will have to pass testing protocols in order to return to practice.

Eagles young and inexperienced WR corps has a golden opportunity vs. 49ers on Sunday Night Football

The Eagles young WR group has a golden opportunity vs. the 49ers

The Philadelphia Eagles are dealing with multiple injuries at the wide receiver position and now with an extremely thin and inexperienced wide receiver group set to face the San Francisco 49ers, it’s a primetime opportunity for a few players to turn the “next man up” motto into a permanent fixture.

Wentz led the Eagles’ on a four-game winning streak to end last season and he did it mainly with tight end Zach Ertz and a cast of throw-ins that included the ascending Greg Ward.

Wentz had a synergy with the young guys and with most of his star playmakers dealing with an injury, the 2020 version of the Eagles wide receiving corps could catapult the team on a much-needed winning streak.

The Eagles wide receiving corp will enter the Sunday night matchup with three career total touchdowns.

Rookie wide receiver John Hightower led the Eagles in wide receiver snaps against the Bengals last week and he adds an element of size and speed that’ll be much needed.  Adrian Killins is the wild card and could shock some fans and analysts on Sunday.

The undrafted rookie standout is similar to Darren Sproles and could really become a weapon in the open field or out of the slot for Carson Wentz and company.

Eagles elevate DB Grayland Arnold, WR Deontay Burnett from the practice squad to the active roster

Eagles elevate DB Grayland Arnold, WR Deontay Burnett from the practice squad to the active roster

Adding to the bevy of roster moves made on Saturday, the Philadelphia Eagles elevated safety Grayland Arnold and wide receiver, Deontay Burnett, up from the practice squad to the active roster for Sunday night’s contest against the San Francisco 49ers.

Arnold could see time in the slot or at the safety position, allowing Nickell Robey-Coleman or Jalen Mills to take snaps at the outside cornerback position. Burnett saw reps at wide receiver in Week 3 and could see a huge dose of targets in the 49ers banged-up defense.

The Philadelphia Eagles have protected four practice squad players in advance of the team’s huge matchup against the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday Night Football.

Eagles snap count vs. Bengals: Breakdown, analysis

Eagles snap count vs. Bengals: Breakdown, analysis

The Philadelphia Eagles avoided an 0-3 start with their Week 3 tie against the Cincinnati Bengals, but things aren’t all well. The Eagles played a total 91 snaps on offense, and 72 snaps on defense.

***

Quarterbacks: Carson Wentz 91 snaps, Jalen Hurts 3 snaps

In his first significant NFL actions, Hurts had 2 runs for 8 yards. Hurts was responsible for a fumble and with the Eagles looking for a spark on offense, he should see more snaps.

Running Backs: Miles Sanders 71 snaps, Boston Scott 13 snaps, Corey Clement 6 snaps

With the Bengals struggling against the run through two-weeks, Sanders was supposed to get a huge workload to help take some stress off Carson Wentz. Sanders had 18 carries, most in the first half, and only two or three in the second half.

Wide Reciever: John Hightower 78 snaps, Greg Ward 76 snaps, Deontay Burnett 39 snaps, DeSean Jackson 28 snaps, J.J. Arcega-Whiteside 18 snaps.

Jackson left the game with a hamstring injury, but Arcega-Whiteside’s 18 snaps were alarming and could suggest the Eagles are ready to move on.

Offensive Line: Nate Herbig 91 snaps, Jason Kelce 91 snaps, Matt Pryor 91 snaps, Lane Johnson 91 snaps, Jason Peters 89 snaps, Jordan Mailata 2 snaps

Jason Peters struggled on the afternoon against edge rusher Carl Lawson, while Matt Pryor’s false start pushed the Eagles out of field goal range at the end of overtime.

Tight End: Zach Ertz 84 snaps, Richard Rodgers 33 snaps, Dallas Goedert 6 snaps

Goedert could be out a while with an ankle injury, and while Ertz had a strong game, the Eagles don’t have a backup tight end on the roster with Goedert’s potential.

Defensive Line: Brandon Graham 58 snaps, Fletcher Cox 55 snaps, Malik Jackson 42 snaps, Josh Sweat 38 snaps, Derek Barnett 38 snaps, Javon Hargrave 32 snaps, Hassan Ridgeway 15 snaps, Genard Avery 11 snaps

The Eagles defensive line played really well, combining for 6.5 sacks and 15 QB hits. On the day the Eagles had 8 total sacks and hit Joe Burrow 18 times.

Linebacker: Nate Gerry 70 snaps, T.J. Edwards 51 snaps, Duke Riley 7 snaps, Alex Singleton 1 snap

The Eagles eliminated some of the mistakes from the Rams’ loss by inserting T.J. Edwards into the lineup. Duke Riley had his snaps reduced while Nate Gerry has regressed and the Eagles could look to Davion Taylor.

Cornerback: Darius Slay 66 snaps, Avonte Maddox 39 snaps, Cre’Von LeBlanc 59 snaps, Trevor Williams 32 snaps, Nickell Robey Coleman 26 snaps,

Safety: Rodney McLeod 72 snaps, Jalen Mills 71 snaps, Marcus Epps 8 snaps, K’Von Wallace 1 snap

Schwartz made the smart move, give LeBlanc more snaps over Robey-Coleman, but the Eagles secondary was still besieged by injuries on Sunday. Darius Slay missed time and Avonte Maddox had to leave the game.
