Prince Tega Wanogho ruled out for Super Bowl 58

Auburn alumni Prince Tega Wanogho has been ruled out ahead of the biggest game of the NFL season.

Auburn’s lone representative in the Super Bowl, Kansas City Chiefs offensive tackle [autotag]Prince Tega Wanogho[/autotag], has been ruled out ahead of Super Bowl 58.

The designation marks the end of a disappointing season for the Auburn alumni. Injury issues forced the 26-year-old to miss all but 3 games this season in Kansas City.

He could have been in for an increase in snaps with the Chiefs set to miss star guard Joe Thuney in the game.

Instead, quarterback Patrick Mahomes will be playing behind a banged-up line in front of a stout 49ers defense. For what it’s worth, Mahomes’ lone Super Bowl loss occurred against the Tampa Bay Buccanneers when his offensive line failed to hold up.

We’ll see if Kansas City suffers the same fate today. As for Wanogho, the young tackle will look to prove his worth in the offseason as he looks for a new contract.

The Kansas City Chiefs face the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl 58 Sunday at 5:30 p.m. CT. The big game will be broadcasted on CBS.

Prince Tega Wanogho headed back to Super Bowl with Chiefs

This former Auburn lineman is headed back to the Super Bowl

Former Auburn offensive tackle [autotag]Prince Tega Wanogho[/autotag] is headed back to the Super Bowl with the Kansas City Chiefs.

The 26-year-old appeared in just 3 games this season for Kansas City before going on IR after appearing in 17 during the Chiefs’ Super Bowl-winning season last year.

There is some hope that Wanogho can return to the field on February 11, as the former sixth-round pick was able to partake in all three practice sessions before ultimately being ruled out last Friday.

With two weeks off between now and the big game, the former Auburn standout will have every chance to prove his health ahead of the second Super Bowl of his young career.

If Wanogho can play, he may see an uptick from the seven snaps he received last year with the Chiefs offensive line in rough condition injury-wise.

Star guard Joe Thuney injured himself in the divisional round against the Bills and is considered a “long shot” to return this season, while most of the other starters across the line are dealing with minor ailments.

Active or not, Wanogho can join former Tigers [autotag]Jonathan Jones[/autotag] and [autotag]Brandon King[/autotag] as active alumni with multiple Super Bowl victories with a win.

Chiefs GM Brett Veach evaluates right tackle situation ahead of 2023 NFL draft

#Chiefs GM Brett Veach shared his thoughts on the team’s right tackle situation and who could take the next step in their development. | from @EdEastonJr

The offensive line has been a project that’s seen tremendous growth over the past two seasons for the Kansas City Chiefs. General Manager Brett Veach made it a mission to surround Patrick Mahomes with quality protection and keep him healthy to ensure long-term success.

The Chiefs parted ways with both Andrew Wylie and Orlando Brown Jr. at the beginning of the offseason, opening a path for more playing time to some of their young linemen. With the addition of Jawaan Taylor in free agency, the biggest question mark remains the right tackle position. A player that has potential is third-year OT Lucas Niang. He hasn’t seen a lot of time on the field, in part due to opting out in 2020 and in part due to injury, but Veach continues to believe that he can be a contributor.

“We have a lot of hopes for Lucas (Niang),” said Veach. “And you know, he was the guy that actually won that starting right tackle position, then he got hurt. It’s been a little bit of an uphill battle. Um, he had a pretty bad injury there. But he has worked phenomenally to get in shape. And Rick (Burkholder) and his staff have done a great job of continuing to get him in the right positions to go out there and be productive.”

While Niang appears to be set for a more significant role, Veach also highlighted Prince Tega Wanogho and Darian Kinnard as players ready to take the next step in their development.

“Prince (Tega Wanogho) is a guy that has always kind of steadily grown every year has been here, and I think (Darian) Kinnard, you know, I’m excited for him,” said Veach. “And I think he’ll have a chance to play, play some tackle. We certainly think he has flex, and he may end up being ultimately a better guard. He’s played right tackle in the past, and he was the guy that, you know, struggled a little early on, but I think toward the end of training camp there, and throughout the season, you guys probably don’t get to see as much during the season, but he’s, I think grown rapidly over the last few months. I know Coach (Andy) Heck is really excited for where he is, so again, I think he’s a guy that has flexibility, so he’ll probably get reps at both guard and tackle there.

“But between those three guys and we have three solid guys that can go in there and compete and you know, I’m sure we’ll look to continue to add depth all across that offensive line.”

The Chiefs could add more offensive line help in the draft, but Veach is still looking for opportunities to get young talent who are already enriched in the culture more involved. The returning players with something to prove could lessen the urgency and need to pick an offensive tackle early in the 2023 NFL draft.

Wanogho became the 20th former Tiger to win a Super Bowl ring when the Kansas City Chiefs defeated the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LVII.

Auburn was well represented in Super Bowl LVII, as three players graced the rosters of the Philadelphia Eagles and the victorious Kansas City Chiefs.

When the dust settled, offensive tackle [autotag]Prince Tega Wanogho[/autotag] rose victorious with the Chiefs, becoming the 20th former Tiger to earn a Super Bowl ring.

Wanogho’s win with the Chiefs marks the third straight season that a former Auburn player has been on a championship roster. [autotag]Blake Countess[/autotag] was a member of the Los Angeles Rams roster that won Super Bowl LVI while [autotag]Jamel Dean[/autotag] and [autotag]Carlton Davis[/autotag] won Super Bowl LV with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

To mark the occasion, let’s take a look at Wanogho’s career as a member of the Kansas City Chiefs:

Former Auburn OL wins Super Bowl with Kansas City Chiefs

The former Auburn offensive lineman played six games for the Super Bowl-winning Chiefs this season.

The Kansas City Chiefs won their third Super Bowl title in franchise history,  and their second title in four seasons by defeating the Philadelphia Eagles, 38-35 in Super Bowl LVII in Glendale, Arizona.

Among those on the Chief’s roster is former Auburn offensive lineman [autotag]Prince Tega Wanogho[/autotag].

Wanogho, who played for the Tigers from 2015-2019, was drafted by Philadelphia Eagles as the 210th overall pick in the 2020 draft before signing with Kansas City prior to the 2021 season.

According to Pro Football Focus, Wanogho played in six games this season for the Chiefs, splitting time between left and right tackle. He took a total of 60 snaps, 45 of those being at right tackle and 13 at left tackle. He graded at 68.4 during the season.

Wanogho becomes the 23rd former Tiger to be a part of a Super Bowl-winning roster and the first since [autotag]Blake Countess[/autotag] in 2022 as a member of the Los Angeles Rams‘ roster in Super Bowl LVI.

Charles Barkley reveals Super Bowl plans, which team he’s betting on

Not sure which team to root for on Sunday? Here’s who Sir Charles is betting on.

One of Auburn’s most famous alumni has placed his bet for Sunday’s Super Bowl 57 in Glendale, Arizona.

In a recent episode of the Steam Room podcast with Ernie Johnson, former Auburn basketball star [autotag]Charles Barkley[/autotag] revealed that he is placing a hefty bet of $100,000 on the Philadelphia Eagles to defeat the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday.

What sparks his interest in choosing the Eagles? He won big the last time he bet on Philadelphia to win a Super Bowl. It is not certain how much he bet, but he made a relatable comparison during a taping of Jimmy Kimmel Live! in 2018.

“In Alabama, it’d buy a big condo. In L.A., a small guest house,” Barkley said soon after the Eagles defeated the Patriots in Super Bowl 52.

Barkley also says that he plans to pull an all-nighter in Las Vegas following the Super Bowl. He and 12 friends will be playing golf this weekend before watching the game.

“By the time the game ends, I’ll probably gamble all night Sunday and go straight to the airport,” Barkley said.

Auburn will have two representatives on the Eagles roster for Super Bowl 57 as former offensive lineman [autotag]Jack Driscoll[/autotag] and former punter [autotag]Arryn Sipposs[/autotag] are active members of the Eagles. Former lineman [autotag]Prince Tega Wanogho[/autotag] will represent Auburn on the Kansas City Chiefs roster.

Trio of former Auburn teammates heading to Super Bowl LVII

Auburn’s Super Bowl representatives were a part of the Tigers’ rosters during the 2018 and 2019 seasons.

Auburn Football was well represented during the 2022-23 NFL season with 26 former players gracing professional rosters.

As the season draws closer to an end, three former Tigers remain as the field is set for Super Bowl LVII at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona.

The Philadelphia Eagles defeated the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC Championship Game on Sunday, 31-7 to advance to the Super Bowl, which means that former Tigers [autotag]Jack Driscoll[/autotag] and [autotag]Arryn Siposs[/autotag] will get the chance to compete for the league’s ultimate prize.

On the other side, the Kansas City Chiefs defeated Cincinnati Bengals on a late field goal, 23-20 to win the AFC Championship, meaning that former Auburn lineman [autotag]Prince Tega Wanogho[/autotag] is also heading to the Super Bowl.

It will be a reunion between those three Tigers, as all three players were a part of Auburn rosters during the 2018 and 2019 seasons before beginning their professional careers in 2020. Driscoll, who transferred to Auburn from UMass, was taken No. 145 overall by the Eagles while Siposs signed an undrafted rookie contract with the Detroit Lions.

Wanogho was the longest-tenured Tiger out of the bunch, playing from 2015-19. In 2020, he was ironically taken No. 210 overall by the Eagles, the team that he will be facing in the Super Bowl.

Driscoll saw action at both left and right tackle for the Eagles this season. In ten games, Driscoll has participated in 357 snaps according to Pro Football Focus with 207 being at right tackle.

Siposs has punted the football 44 times for Philadelphia this season for an average of 45.7 yards. His longest punt of the season totaled 57 yards, and he has placed an impressive 19 punts inside the opponent’s 20-yard line.

Wanogho has played in six games this season for Kansas City, playing 45 snaps at right tackle, and 15 at left tackle.

The Eagles will compete for their second Super Bowl crown in franchise history on Sunday, Feb. 12, while the Chiefs look to earn their third.

Eagles dead cap space: 48 current or former players account for over $62 million

Philadelphia Eagles dead cap space: 48 current or former players account for over $62 million

The Philadelphia Eagles had 6 injured or absent players accounting for more than $20 million in salary-cap space.

That’s not even the worst of it, as the Eagles also have 48 players, some of who are still on the roster, accounting for over $62 million in dead salary cap space.

The Eagles will carry the largest dead money cap hit in NFL history this season after the team traded Carson Wentz to the Indianapolis Colts.

Philadelphia’s salary cap situation was among the worst in the league after years of pushing back contracts, void years, and restructures.

Wentz’s isn’t the only former Eagle on the books for 2021 and we’ve presented all the dead money cap hits for Philadelphia this season per Over The Cap, and Spotrac.

Breaking down Chiefs’ options at RT with Lucas Niang, Mike Remmers injured

The #Chiefs have a lot of options to consider at the right tackle position with Lucas Niang and Mike Remmers ruled out with injury

The Kansas City Chiefs received some disappointing news on Friday, learning they’d be without their top-2 options at the right tackle position in Lucas Niang and Mike Remmers.

Niang started the first five games of the season, but he was benched after his Week 5 game against the Buffalo Bills. Mike Remmers filled in for the next two games before suffering the knee injury that currently has him sidelined. Niang replaced Remmers against the New York Giants and the Green Bay Packers. He suffered a rib injury in the first quarter, which has him sidelined for Week 10.

Below you’ll find a quick look at several of the options who can fill in for Niang and Remmers while they’re injured, ranging from most likely to least likely to start against the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday night:

Andy Heck explains what he wants to see from Chiefs’ offensive line in preseason Week 2

#Chiefs OL coach Andy Heck continues to evaluate his offensive line and there are two things he’s looking for in preseason Week 2. | from @EdEastonJr

As the Kansas City Chiefs prepare for their second preseason game on Friday, the coaching staff has continued to evaluate last Saturday’s performance.

All eyes were on the offensive line as expected heading into San Francisco, and the immediate evaluation process is well underway by offensive line coach Andy Heck. The veteran assistant coach is well aware that the target of criticism for the Super Bowl LV loss was due to the offensive line’s struggles. It led to an offseason focus on rebuilding the unit, with the Chiefs acquiring Pro Bowler Orlando Brown Jr, veteran Joe Thuney and drafting high-level prospects Trey Smith and Creed Humphrey.

During Saturday’s preseason opener, Heck got the first glimpse at his starters and depth players. Several of the depth players moved around and played different spots, which provided Heck with a unique view of their abilities.

“It’s extremely valuable for two reasons,” said Heck of playing players at different positions. “One, it gives us an opportunity to evaluate guys. Look, if they’re not a starter, they’re going to have to be able to do multiple jobs like play guard and tackle, center and guard. Then, the other thing is it gives them an opportunity to show their best. Maybe he’s a little bit better at this position than that, but we’ve got to train him at something that maybe he’s not as strong at. But at the same time, we want him to show out and put his best foot forward.”

One potentially special talent on the offensive line is former 2020 NFL draft selection Lucas Niang. He opted out of last season with concerns about the COVID-19 pandemic. Because of his opt-out, Niang is virtually a rookie.

Niang has received starting repetitions at right tackle while Mike Remmers dealt with a back injury. While Heck isn’t ready to name him the starter, Niang is a player that is on his radar.

”Yeah, we’re a ways away from anointing anybody, but I would say that Lucas (Niang) has definitely demonstrated the physical abilities,” said Heck. “He’s everything we hoped for in a draft pick there. He’s a big, athletic guy that will use his hands well in protection. He’s off to a great start. I will say, we’ve got a lot of competition here in this group.”

Another player from that same draft has hopes of making the Chiefs’ final roster. Prince Tega Wanogho was a 2020 sixth-round pick by the Philadelphia Eagles. He latched on to Kansas City during the playoff run last season and has been impressive during training camp. He had a tremendous performance during last Saturday’s victory, one that caught the attention of the veteran coach.

”I was very pleased with his outing,” said Heck. ”I thought he stepped up. He did a nice job in protection in particular. He used his hands well and made the most of his opportunity.”

The outcomes of the preseason games don’t matter much, but coaches like Heck hope to see what they’ve taught come to in life games. The constant evaluation during these games is essential in the final roster’s formation. With the next preseason game on deck, Heck has two things that he’s looking for from both starters and depth players in his unit.

”I’d say one thing we’d love to see is great compete and finish establishing that physical presence that we want to be about on Sundays,” said Heck. “Then, the other thing is just consistency as a group. Good communication and just operate efficiently as a group.”
