Measurements for every Georgia football player at NFL Combine

NFL Combine measurement results for every Georgia football.

This week, a number of former Georgia players are in Indianapolis for the 2020 NFL Combine, where they will be partaking in measurements, on-field workouts, team interviews and medical examinations.

So far, every player minus J.R. Reed has gone through the measurement portion of the week, and we have all results listed for you below.

Georgia’s Jake Fromm has received his 2020 NFL Combine measurements. Fromm’s hand size, which is under nine inches, is somewhat concerning. Nine inches is considered the minimum hand size for an NFL quarterback.

Here’s how both Jake Fromm and Washington Huskies QB Jacob Eason measured at the combine:

Ultimately, hand size doesn’t have much correlation with cold weather performance and fumbles, so it shouldn’t drop Fromm too far. That being said, Fromm doesn’t have the measurables of the other elite quarterbacks in the 2020 NFL Draft.

LSU’s Joe Burrow did have nine inch hands as well. He’ll still be the first pick of the NFL Draft. One-eighth of an inch shouldn’t make too much of a difference for UGA’s Jake Fromm.

Georgia football WR Lawrence Cager meets with NFL team at combine

Georgia football WR Lawrence Cager met with the NFL’s best team at the NFL Combine this week.

Georgia wide receiver Lawrence Cager is in Indianapolis this week for the NFL Scouting Combine and has so far gone through player measurements, interviews, meetings and medical examinations.

Per a report from Herbie Teope of the Kansas City Star, Cager has already had a meeting with the reigning Super Bowl champs, the Kansas City Chiefs.

What was discussed in that meeting I’m not sure, but Teope was able to ask a question of his own.

Cager and Hardman never actually played together at Georgia. Cager transferred to UGA for the 2019 season, which Hardman passed up to take his talents to the NFL.

He will not be able to run on-field drills with his former teammates Jake Fromm and Charlie Woerner when the quarterbacks and receivers take the field later this week as Cager is still recovering from a broken ankle.

“My ribs and my shoulder are completely fine,” Cager said, referring to the injuries that initially slowed him down in 2019 prior to breaking his ankle.

“It’s really just my ankle that I’ve been dealing with.”

“It’s a mental game right now,” Cager said. “You’re not able to train, you’re not able to do everything at the end of the season that you envisioned you would do preparing for the combine and the draft.”

In 2019, Cager played in nine of 14 games, with six starts and had 33 catches for 476 yards and four TDs.

Georgia wide receiver Lawrence Cager arrived in Indianapolis yesterday for the NFL Combine, and today took part in player measurements along with quarterback Jake Fromm and tight end Charlie Woerner.

Cager, who transferred to Georgia prior to the 2019 season after spending four years at Miami, had a stellar season in Athens despite missing time with a shoulder and rib injury.

He has the size and catch radius to have a solid NFL career, and his measurements compare fine to elite NFL receivers.

However, in terms of hand-size, he will face the same obstacle that Fromm will have to face, as both measured identical hand-size which happens to be lower than the NFL standard for their positions.

Cager measurements:

Height: 6’4 and ¾ inches tall

Weight: 220 pounds

Hand size: 8 and ⅞ inches

Wingspan: 79 and ⅜ inch wingspan

Arm length: 33 and ⅜ inches

 

Hand-size measurement not friendly to Jake Fromm at NFL Combine

Georgia football QB Jake Fromm had a low hand-size measurement at the NFL Combine.

Going into the 2019 Georgia season, quarterback Jake Fromm was projected as a first round NFL Draft pick by most publications, going as high in the top-five in multiple mock drafts.

But then a sub-par 2019 season hit Fromm and the Georgia offense, and the three-time SEC East winning quarterback saw his draft stock slide.

Now projected anywhere between a third and fifth round pick, Fromm is in Indianapolis partaking in the NFL Combine where his hand measurement has now another obstacle for him hurdle.

I don’t buy into these measurements too much, and for Fromm’s sake hopefully there’s a few NFL GMs out there who can overlook his hand-size, which measured at 8 7/8 inches. (Player’s hand size is measured from the tip of your thumb to the tip of your pinky.)

By NFL quarterback standards, that’s a low measurement.

For comparison, former Georgia quarterback Jacob Eason, now representing Washington at the Combine, had a hand-size measurement of 9 4/8 inches, per Yahoo NFL Reporter Charles Robinson.

The biggest news of the day, as it pertains to hand measurements, comes from Joe Burrow’s numbers. His hand measured nine inches, which would be the smallest of any first round NFL quarterback since 2008.

It’s NFL Mock Draft Tuesday and the latest on Georgia football QB Jake Fromm

A look at where PFF has Georgia football QB Jake Fromm going in the 2020 NFL Draft.

The drafting of an NFL quarterback is far from an exact science and the wrong decision can set back a team for years. Pro Football Focus used their analytical skills to select where the top ten quarterbacks will fall out in the 2020 draft.

To no one’s surprise, LSU’s Joe Burrow is the overall No. 1 selection by Cincinnati. Burrow had an insane 2.95 wins above average metric (WAA). Alabama’s Tua Tagovailoa (1.21 WAA) falls into the lap of Miami with the fifith pick. Indianapolis picks Oregon’s Justin Herbert with the 13th pick in the first round.

In the second round, Chicago selects Georgia’s Jake Fromm with the 43rd overall pick. In terms of WAA, Georgia’s Jake Fromm is fifth on the list of eligible draft quarterbacks, with a metric of 0.79. See below what PFF has to say about Fromm.

With the 49th overall pick, the Steelers select Utah State’s Jordon Love (.10 WAA). The next QB isn’t selected until the fourth round when the Carolina Panthers select Washington State’s Anthony Gordan with the 103rd pick. Former UGA QB and current Washington Husky Jacob Eason (.31 WAA) goes to Tampa Bay with the 107th pick. Hawaii’s Cole McDonald is selected with the 109th pick by Atlanta. Oklahoma’s Jalen Hurts is heading to Kansas City with the 128th pick.

In the fifth round, Detroit selects San Jose State’s Josh Love (.91 WAA) with the overall 131st pick.

PFF speaking of why the Bears should draft Fromm:

Why they should choose Fromm: PFF has been pretty honest when it comes to Mitchell Trubisky. He isn’t quite what we and the Bears thought he’d be.

What they are getting: Jake Fromm graded out reasonably well throughout his time at Georgia, producing a PFF grade above 80.0 in each of his three seasons. This is mostly due to the care he takes with the football. In 2019 alone, he had a turnover-worthy play rate that ranked sixth of 125 qualifying quarterbacks. He was solid throwing into a tight window, as well, producing the fourth-highest grade and the second-highest rate of “accurate plus” passes on his tight-window throws.

The big concern with Fromm is that Georgia relied more on everyone else to win games. He fits the “game manager” title and wasn’t someone who could create outside the structure of the play. 

The 2020 NFL Draft will be the 85th annual meeting of National Football League franchises to select newly eligible players. The draft is scheduled to be held from April 23–25, 2020 in Las Vegas.

Ten Georgia football alumni invited to NFL Combine

Ten Dawg lettermen will attempt to turn the heads of NFL scouts and coaches across a series of drills and exercises, all conducted between February 27 and March 2 in Indianapolis.

Today, the NFL released a list of all 337 players invited. Representing the Silver Britches will be (in alphabetical order):

  • Wide receiver Lawrence Cager
  • Quarterback Jake Fromm
  • Running back Brian Herrien
  • Offensive lineman Solomon Kindley
  • Safety JR Reed

With several surprising early draft declarations, Georgia is ranked among the top three in number of prospects invited per school.

The only school that matches Georgia’s number of participants is Alabama  and the only school with more participants than both is LSU.

Georgia football QB Jake Fromm predicts what his 40 time will be

Georgia football QB Jake Fromm predicted his 40 time at the NFL Combine.

Georgia football quarterback Jake Fromm is in Mobile, Alabama preparing for the upcoming NFL Draft with his personal quarterback coach that he’s had since he attended Houston County High School in Warner Robins.

Fromm’s junior season may not have gone the way he had hoped; he was inconsistent at times, received little help from his receivers and ultimately led an offense that left a ton to be desired. But the truth is that Fromm is a great quarterback, as seen during his freshman and sophomore year and at times throughout his junior year.

That’s the reason that he was projected as a top-ten pick by a ton of outlets last summer.

What separates Fromm from other quarterbacks is his preparation. He may not the biggest guy, he may not be the fastest and his arm strength is good but not great, but what he lacks in physical attributes he more than makes up for with his focus and drive.

While partaking in an interview with the NFL Network, Fromm was asked what kind of player the team who takes him in the draft will be getting.

“They’re getting a work horse — a guy who is going to go out and work and prepare,” Fromm said. “A guy who is going to lead. A guy who can make all the throws and make their teammates better, and enjoy it. Man, I love football. I want to go out and be the best football player I can be.”

In the current era of football, where expectations for what quarterbacks should be able to do with their legs are evolving, solely pocket passers are quickly becoming a minority. And though Fromm’s speed and athleticism is not what strikes fear into the opposition, he is quick enough to pick up chunks of yards with his feet if given the space.

The NFL Network asked Fromm to predict what kind of 40-yard-dash time we should expect from the Georgia great.

“We’re going to get a 4.9,” Fromm said. “We’re shooting for a 4.8. A 4.89 is still the same as a 4.80. It’s a 4.8. That’s all you need.”

Last combine (2019), a 4.9 40 time would have been good for 11th among quarterbacks.

NFL releases list of early entrants for the 2020 draft

The NFL Draft is just a few months away and the league released a list of all the early entrants, including from Georgia football.

On Tuesday, the NFL released the official number of early entrants for the 2020 draft.

Of the 115 early entrants, 99 athletes were granted special eligibility (three years removed from high school) and 16 will have graduated but have collegiate eligibility remaining.

Last year, a record 135 collegians left early for the NFL draft. Of those, nearly one-third did not hear their name called on draft day. The siren song of the NFL sometimes isn’t so sweet.

The SEC, proving once again it is the most talented and competitive conference in the nation, saw 35 players forgo their senior year. The Big Ten lost 21 early entrants, the ACC and Pac-12 each lost 13 and the Big 12 lost 8 players to the draft. Other conference and NCAA division early losses include:

  • Mountain West, 6
  • AAC, 5
  • Conference USA, 4
  • Independents, 3
  • Sun Belt, 1
  • MAC, 0
  • FCS, DII, DIII, 5

National champion LSU lost the most early entrants with 9. SEC rivals Alabama, Georgia and Texas A&M were next, losing 6, 5 and 4, respectively.

Georgia  offensive tackle Andrew Thomas (junior) is widely expected to be one of the early entrants drafted in the top 10. Other Georgia early entrants include tackle Isaiah Wilson (RS soph, 2nd-3rd round), guard Solomon Kindley (RS junior, late 1st-2nd round), quarterback Jake Fromm (junior, 1st-2nd round) and running back D’Andre Swift (junior, 1st-2nd round).

The 2020 NFL Draft will be the 85th annual meeting of National Football League franchises to select newly eligible players. The draft is scheduled to be held from April 23–25, 2020, in Paradise, Nevada and will be televised live on ESPN.

Numerous Georgia Bulldogs have decided to return to UGA or head to the NFL Draft including: Jake Fromm, D’Andre Swift, and more.

Veteran members of the Georgia Bulldogs have been contemplating a tough decision these past couple months: enter the 2020 NFL Draft or return to Athens for another season. Each player’s decision is their own choice, but it is always beneficial to a program when veteran players return for another shot at the College Football Playoffs.

Georgia’s defense is getting a boost with the returns of cornerbacks Mark Webb, Eric Stokes, safety Richard LeCounte, linebacker Monty Rice, and defensive lineman Malik Herring.

On the other side of the football, offensive linemen Justin Shaffer and Ben Cleveland will be back. UGA’s offensive line has been purged by the NFL and a transfer.

College football players have until the 20th of January to determine if they wish to enter into the 2020 NFL Draft. Juniors and redshirt sophomores are the primary players contemplating their NFL decisions.

Georgia will notably lose the following key seniors as well: kicker Rodrigo Blankenship, defensive tackle Michael Barnett, defensive lineman David Marshall, defensive lineman Tyler Clark, linebacker Tae Crowder, receiver Tyler Simmons, safety J.R. Reed, receiver Lawrence Cager, tight end Eli Wolf, tight end Charlie Woerner, and running back Brian Herrien. UGA is losing several other seniors, who didn’t play as much as this group.

Bulldog defensive lineman Devonte Wyatt has no public statement about his NFL decision, but it is assumed he’s coming back. Wyatt helped UGA not allow a single rushing touchdown to a running back in 2020.

Georgia’s offseason will have many ups and downs. The NFL Combine and Senior Bowl is next on the list for many of these UGA greats.

With six Georgia Bulldogs going in the first four rounds of the 2020 NFL Draft, it’d be a great showing for Kirby Smart and all of the talented players he’s coached. The biggest question mark of this mock draft is Ben Cleveland, who may or may not be returning to school. Cleveland was academically ineligible for the 2020 Sugar Bowl.

Solomon Kindley going in the first round is another big surprise. Kindley played excellent as a sophomore, but battled some injury issues this season. The Seahawks are known to be unconventional in the first round and need offensive line help.
