Dolphins claim former Eagles, Giants TE off waivers

The Dolphins are back to four tight ends on their active roster after claiming one off waivers Wednesday.

The Miami Dolphins claimed former Philadelphia Eagles tight end Jack Stoll off waivers, the team announced Wednesday. Linebacker David Long Jr. was waived by the Dolphins to make room on the active roster.

Stoll, 26, signed with the Eagles as an undrafted free agent in 2021 and spent the first three seasons of his career with the team. When he became a free agent in 2024, he signed with the New York Giants, but re-joined Philadelphia after he was released at the end of training camp.

In his four seasons with the Eagles, Stoll caught 22 passes for 193 yards.

On Tuesday, the Dolphins claimed linebacker Tyrel Dodson off waivers and placed tight end Tanner Conner on injured reserve. Miami brought its roster back to equilibrium by adding a tight end and cutting a linebacker Wednesday.

The Dolphins have three other tight ends on the active roster: Jonnu Smith, Durham Smythe, and Julian Hill. They also re-added rookie Hayden Rucci to the practice squad.

Eagles waive TE Jack Stoll

With Jordan Mailata returning to the lineup, the Philadelphia Eagles are waiving tight end Jack Stoll

The Philadelphia Eagles are set to get Jordan Mailata back in the lineup, and tight end Jack Stoll has been waived. The team needs a roster spot.

Mailata is returning to the lineup after missing four games, and Stoll is the third tight end on the roster. Dallas Goedert and Grant Calcaterra are the main contributors.

Stoll has two catches, for 10 yards in seven games played this season, and he could return on the practice squad.

Former Husker promoted to active NFL roster

The tight end played at Nebraska from 2016-2020.

A former Nebraska Cornhusker has been promoted from the practice squad to the active roster. Tight end Jack Stoll was promoted by the Philadelphia Eagles.

This is Stoll’s second stint with Philly. He previously played there from 2021-2023 before briefly joining the New York Giants this past offseason.

Stoll has 20 career receptions for a total of 183 yards. His best season came in 2022 when he started in 11 games and had 11 catches for 123 yards.

The tight end played at Nebraska from 2016-2020. He appeared in 43 games and had 61 receptions for 657 yards and six touchdowns.

It’s no surprise that the Eagles would make a move to resign the tight end once he became available. Stoll will be a valuable addition to the Eagles running game, which ranks third in the NFL for the 2024 season.

Eagles sign TE Jack Stoll to the active roster

Philadelphia Eagles sign Jack Stoll to the active roster

With the Eagles banged up and likely to use more 12 personnel on Sunday in Tampa Bay, the team signed Jack Stoll from the practice squad to the active roster on Tuesday.

Britain Covey was placed on injured reserve earlier in the day, and the team could be without A.J. Brown (hamstring) and DeVonta Smith (concussion) for the huge matchup against the Buccaneers.

Stoll was a restricted free agent in March and would have been designated to remain in Philadelphia had GM Howie Roseman offered him a tender. The Eagles opted not to, meaning Stoll could test unrestricted free agency.

Stoll signed with the Giants in free agency but was waived during the 53-man roster cutdowns.

Stoll was more run blocker than pass catcher over his first two seasons in the NFL, and his production diminished whenever Dallas Goedert was out of the lineup.

Giants’ Josh Ezeudu carted off, 3 others injured during Friday’s practice

It was a rough Friday in East Rutherford as New York Giants OL Josh Ezeudu was carted off, three others were injured and two more got sick.

It was a scorcher on Friday in East Rutherford with the heat index soaring above 100, but that didn’t stop the New York Giants, who adorned full pads for the third time this summer.

That combination yielded unfortunate results as offensive lineman Joshua Ezeudu was carted off the field toward the end of practice.

Ezeudu was seen limping before the cart came out to pick him up but given the heat and dew point, it’s possible he was just cramping up.

The heat also got to center Austin Schlottmann, who briefly left the field while vomiting, as well as wide receiver Bryce Ford-Wheaton. It was that kind of day.

Meanwhile, three other Giants also went down with injuries, including tight end Jack Stoll, who appeared to suffer a knee injury. He was joined on the sideline by defensive tackle D.J. Davidson, both of whom were attended to by trainers and Ronnie Barnes.

Finally, wide receiver Isaiah McKenzie also suffered an injury to his lower back or ribs after getting hit by Dyontae Johnson near the sideline.

McKenzie eventually got up and walked off the field but he was clearly in a significant amount of pain.

The Giants did not offer immediate updates on any of the players.

Giants’ Dexter Lawrence, Jack Stoll each get married over weekend

It was a wedding weekend for New York Giants NT Dexter Lawrence and TE Jack Stoll, who each married their fiancés in lavish ceremonies.

Anyone who has ever had to attend a wedding on a football Sunday, or even on a Super Bowl Sunday, knows that summer is the right time for football-centric people to get married.

That is exactly what two New York Giants players did this past weekend,

Pro Bowl defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence and free agent tight end Jack Stoll both tied the knot with their significant others recently as the team is enjoying their summer break.

From Giants Country:

A couple of days after New York Giants defensive lineman Dexter Lawrence II married his college sweetheart Donna McCain, tight end Jack Stoll became the latest Giant known to have said, “I do.”

Stoll married his college sweetheart Carolyn Thayer in front of 200 guests at a Colorado Springs resort, according to wedding details provided by People magazine.

The 26-year-old Lawrence was married on June 27 in North Carolina according to social media posts with several teammates and ex-teammate Leonard Williams in attendance.

Stoll, also 26, was signed by the Giants as a free agent this offseason to bulk up their tight end room, which lost veteran Darren Waller to retirement. Stoll played the last three seasons for the Philadelphia Eagles in a backup role.

A lovely weekend for a couple of Giants.

Do Giants need to add more talent at the tight end position?

Assuming Darren Waller retires, do the New York Giants have enough impactful talent at the tight end position or do they need more?

New York Giants general manager Joe Schoen has been busy this offseason filling his team’s most glaring needs in preparation for the 2024 season.

But not all of the team’s needs have been addressed. There’s always work to be done.

ESPN’s Aaron Schatz recently listed each team’s biggest remaining roster holes now that the draft and the bulk of free agency are over. For the Giants, he sees their biggest hole at the tight end position.

This is another team with questions at running back even after adding free agent Devin Singletary, but we’ll go with tight end as the team’s largest hole. That assumes that Darren Waller will retire, which is up in the air. If Waller leaves, the Giants will go back to starting Daniel Bellinger, who caught just 30 passes as a rookie in 2022 and then 25 more last season. The G-Men spent a fourth-round pick on Theo Johnson out of Penn State to back up Bellinger and/or Waller. They also have veteran blocking tight end Chris Manhertz and former Eagles backup Jack Stoll. For a team coming off a 6-11 season, New York has a surprisingly hole-free starting lineup — as long as you don’t want to have a complicated debate about the quarterback position.

Schatz is not buying into the narrative that Johnson is going to contribute more than expected as a rookie. He also makes no mention of Lawrence Cager, a player who continues to find his way on the field for the Giants.

Darren Waller is almost certain to retire as he is still mulling his future as the team goes through their offseason training program. Daniel Bellinger has never been given a primary role as a receiver and it’s anyone’s guess how he’ll handle an expanded role in his third season.

Where do the Eagles rank in spending at each position after first wave of free agency?

We’re looking at where the Philadelphia Eagles rank in positional spending at each position after the first wave of NFL free agency

The Eagles have retooled their roster on both sides of the football after inking DE Bryce Huff, RB Saquon Barkley, OLB Zach Baun, OL Matt Hennessy, WR DeVante Parker, S/CB C.J. Gardner-Johnson, LB Devin White, LB Oren Burks, DT PJ Mustipher, WR Parris Campbell, and CB Tyler Hall to deals during the first wave.

Philadelphia then traded for quarterback Kenny Pickett while extending Landon Dickerson and Jake Elliott.

Philadelphia currently has about  $33,657,986 in cap space per Over The Cap, and they’re spending about $100+ million plus on both sides of the football.  The offensive line and edge rusher positions carry the most significant cap space.

Overall positional spending has changed tremendously since Jalen Hurts signed a massive five-year, $255 million contract extension last spring.

This makes him among the four highest-paid players on average in NFL history.

The Eagles will again be a Super Bowl favorite in the NFC and have one of the most talented rosters despite being 17th in average positional spending.

Thanks to Over The Cap, here’s where Philadelphia sits in positional spending on both sides of the ball ahead of the season opener.

Updated status of every Eagles free agent after first wave of free agency

We’re looking at the status of every Philadelphia Eagles free agent after the first wave of NFL free agency signings

The offseason is in full swing, particularly for the Philadelphia Eagles, who have already made several roster and coaching moves this spring. Eagles GM Howie Roseman started free agency with a bang, agreeing to deals with Saquon Barkley (RB) and Bryce Huff (DE) while retaining Josh Sweat and punter Braden Mann. Philadelphia then signed Landon Dickerson to a monster contract extension and C.J. Gardner-Johnson to a three-year deal. The Eagles have been in nonstop action so far, and we’re taking an updated look at the current status of Philadelphia’s initial group of free agents.
